Once, the name Macalister Hale was uttered in the boardroom with respect. Now, it’s whispered in disgrace at cocktail parties hosted by Boston’s elite.Scandal nearly destroyed me, but the one thing larger than my infamy is my bank account, and I’ve learned money can solve anything.Well—almost anything.Sophia Alby’s preferred currency is secrets and the way she trades information puts Wall Street … information puts Wall Street to shame.
This girl charges into my life and claims a partnership can restore my reputation. My downfall was swift, but with her, my climb to redemption will be greater.
Our arrangement is professional. Appropriate. It has to be, because she’s half my age. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting . . .
To move on. To control and indulge in her. To hear the name Macalister Hale echo in her breathy moans.
But I can’t. Giving in to temptation led to my undoing before, and I won’t survive it a second time.

If someone would have said that my feelings for Macalister Hale would change from how much I loathed him in the first three books, I would not have believed them. The Redemption is the fourth book in the Filthy Rich Americans series by Nikki Sloane and paints the new Macalister or should I call him post-prison Mr. Hale in a different light. Mr. Hale had me wanting to shout his first name Ma- ca-li-ster in syllables with how hot, sexy, and authoritative he is.
I loved how perfectly written this story is, from the start I could sense secrets lurking behind all the moments of teasing banter, tension, and the moments of heated passion. Macalister and Sophia’s connection had me overlook the age gap. Sophia is so down to earth, she lights up a room. I love her strength and her determination to go after what she wants. Macalister had his moments with me, I had to overlook how he manipulated his family in the past to get what he wanted … that is a guard that should probably stay up with this character. He did win me over with how vulnerable he becomes around Sophia. Macalister is dominant when he needs to be and that brings out such a sexiness to him and when you bring together the flirty submissive side to Sophia made them such the perfect pair.
The Redemption is everything I wanted and didn’t expect in Macalister Hale’s story. The lies, secrets, twist and family drama of the rich residents of Cape Hill had me on the edge of my seat. I’m screaming with anticipation for Vance’s story. I love everything about this story if I could give it more than 5 stars … I would.
The Filthy Rich Americans series was in my all time top reads last year and I was beyond excited when I heard Nikki Sloane was giving us Macalister’s story as he has been my favorite throughout this series.
The Redemption is exactly as the name states, it’s a story about redemption and oh boy did Nikki redeem Macalister in fine style. This story was everything. It was emotional, scorching hott, edgy, with a couple of twists you won’t expect. These characters were amazing. Macalister and Sophia were both two complex, flawed individuals who fit perfectly together. You will be consumed with these two characters. The tension between them was intense and their chemistry was off the charts, but their steamy scenes set the kindle on fire. The story is told in dual POV and we get insights into what what each characters is thinking. I loved that we get to see the vulnerable side of them and I was totally engrossed in seeing the progression of their relationship and getting to fully know these characters.
The Redemption was a phenomenal read worthy of a five star status. Nikki Sloane gave us an age gap romance we won’t soon forget, characters we will love, and took us on a journey that was the perfect mix of steam, passion, vulnerability, tenderness and redemption. Without a doubt a top read for 2020, I would highly recommend this novel to all lovers of forbidden romance.
Macalister was/is my favorite character since the beginning of the series. I love complex characters and Macalister sure is one.
So when I got the news that there would be a book telling his story I was all over it. Getting the chance to understand his actions, why he is how he is. Will he be redeemable?
All those things were was excited me the most and I can say I was super happy and impressed on how the author wrote the story, it was more than I thought it would be.
Ohhh and Sophia, she was perfect, PERFECT, for him, he needed someone like her in his life.
I don’t want to spoil it but I bet there it isn’t anyone out there that read the series and it isn’t in love with this hot bad silver fox, really where can I find my a #SilverDaddy LOL
I have had a love/hate relationship with Macalister Hale since The Initiation and seeing him grow into this very dominate presence and change in so many ways over the past 3 books, had me very excited to see what Nikki would have in store for him in his own book. Well, let me just say, she did not disappoint! His story was hot, passionate and tragic all at the same time. I simply loved the dynamics between him and Sophia! Being able to see him as this vulnerable man and also the dominate that I loved/hated from the first three books, was such an amazing balance! It kept me on my toes, not knowing what to expect from chapter to chapter. As their passion engulfed into an inferno, I realized I never knew Macalister was capable of everything I never knew I wanted out of him. His redemption is story is unlike any other I have experienced. With just the right mix of angst and twists mixed into their story, the journey the two go on together was simply remarkable. Bravo Nikki on an amazing tale and turn of events for my favorite love-to-hate villain redeemed!
I had no idea this book was coming so what a sinful treat to be able to revisit the Hales, especially the Hale I found so despicable in the initial series: Macalister. I didn’t know what to expect but I love a good redemption story and so I jumped right in. Surprising to absolutely no one, Nikki Sloane grabbed my attention and I was immediately hooked into this story of Macalister and a surprising ally: Sophia Alby. This unlikely duo were completely addicting to read–I could not tear myself from the pages (and luckily for me, this pandemic has me with lots of time to fill).
Sophia’s seeming confidence and Macalister’s arrogance just sparked on the page. The more time they spent together, the more she softened him which meant the more I cheered on their romance. I had my doubts that Macalister could be redeemed so to see him go from a menace to a likeable control freak was a nice surprise. I mean really…who’d think that this guy could grow so much that you’d actually be hoping that he’d come out on top?!!! Anyway, his redemption story arc was well executed and I loved that Sophia was really the maestro in charge of it. Sophia was also a nice surprise. In previous novels, she seemed way more shallow and devious. This novel really fleshed her out and made her someone you wanted to know more and to see only good things for her. Additionally, I super enjoyed that they both tried to resist what was going on (sort of) but that Nikki Sloane made it impossible for them to not give in to the chemistry–together they were HOT.
I went from surprise that this novel even existed to complete absorption to now where I’m hoping that Nikki Sloane’s writing with a swiftness so that the next Hale arrives soon to my kindle.
5 MINE Stars!! What an amazing read. I seriously hated Macalister from the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy, and seeing his redemption was fantastic! This forbidden, older man/younger woman storyline is filled with intrigue, twists and oh so many secrets. Macalister and Sophie’s chemistry is electric. Their journey will keep you hooked from beginning to end. A definite must read!
If you’ve read the first three in the Filthy Rich Americans series you have an opinion on MacAlister Hale, the machiavellian head of the Hale empire and Marist’s nemesis. Those opinions seemed to be polar ~ you either hated him with a passion or wanted Marist to dump Royce for him. Both sides appeared to be vocal and, surprisingly, both seemed to want to know more of his story. With The Redemption, author Nikki Sloane obliged.
Macalister Hale was once THE powerhouse of Cape Hill. No one breathed without his say so, that is until a struggle on a rooftop sends his wife over the edge and he is sent to prison for involuntary manslaughter ~ well he did kind of push her, a little. Now he is out, still richer than Midas but without his crown. Sophia Alby comes from money and privilege which allowed her to learn the secrets of Cape Hill and in return for something she will name later, she makes a deal with Macalister to repair his reputation.
Definitely an age gap story (he is bordering 60 while she is late 20’s) this is a story about second chances, getting what you need even if it isn’t what you thought you wanted and yes, redemption. Ms. Sloane took a villain and reformed him, making him sympathetic all while knowing the despicable things he did. I was afraid that Macalister would be a shell of his former self, that which made him so deliciously wicked but was delighted to see that he was just as edgy, just as filthy yet more introspective and refined. Sophia was not high on my list of favs in the series but she too blossomed into a woman who had more depth than previously seen. The chemistry between the two is electric.
The Redemption is exactly what Macalister deserves and exactly what readers want.
4 stars. This was a good book! The Redemption is the fourth book in the Filthy Rich Americans series and is Macalister’s book. Macalister is the fallen king of wealthy society, as well as Royce’s father and rival for Marist’s affections in previous books. At the end of the previous book, an accident happened when his wife attacked him and their scuffle led to a fall and her death. He went to prison for two years as punishment. Now, he is out and trying to regain his place in society and his business. Sophia was a peripheral character in the previous books. An acquaintance to Royce and Marist, she, to,o is trying to come into her own and find her place in business and life, as well as to get over some past family troubles. She approaches Macalister for a job, to become his assistant and to help him makeover his reputation in society. She is tenacious, and while she wants to help him, she also wants his help in getting revenge for her past. The two begin working together and make a strong pair. They discover a fiery chemistry and connection, overcoming all the reasons why they should not be together and leading to love.
I liked this book a good bit. I was a little wary going into this book because I wasn’t a fan of Macalister in the previous books in the series. But he definitely redeemed himself in this book. He changed and became a better man, with Sophia’s help. I also wasn’t sure I liked Sophia after the previous books, but we really got to know her here and she came into her own. She is a hard worker and willing to do what she needed to do to get what she wanted. I ended up liking them both a lot and feeling a strong connection between them. I wasn’t sure that I liked that they did not have a connection when they met in the previous books, which made it take me a while to feel chemistry between them in this book. But once I did, I enjoyed this book. Sophia had spunk and she challenged Macalister. They helped each other become less lonely and better people.
I felt that their connection and feelings for each other far surpassed the feelings Macalister thought he had for Marist and his ex-wife in the past. They were also super hot together. The story was simple, but interesting. I liked this book the most out of the series. It was not as dark, hopeless, unsafe feeling or angsty, which I liked, and was all tied up in one book, as well.
Overall, Sophia and Macalister’s story is full of redemption, hope, sexiness, and love. It was great to see him finally overcome his past and get a happy ending, too. The Redemption was an entertaining journey. I look forward to more from this series and Ms. Sloane in the future!
Nikki Sloane’s Filthy Rich American series was my biggest book obsession last year and I was so happy when it was announced that we’re getting more books in the series! The Redemption, as you might’ve guessed already, centers on the dark and manipulating patriarch of the Hale family, Macalister Hale. Honestly, I wasn’t the biggest Macalister fan–I was Team Royce all the way and I hated how Macalister stood in the way of my precious babies Royce and Marist’s HEA–but even I can’t deny that he’s the most interesting and complex character in the FRA series.
The Redemption is set two years after The Deception ended. Macalister Hale is back amongst the Cape Hill elite, cold and intimidating as ever. But, after the scandalous events the took place at the end of The Deception, the last thing Macalister needed was some writer digging into his closet full of skeletons to write a tell-all book. Enter Sophia Alby: Cape Hill’s own Gossip Girl whose preferred currency is secrets. She presents him with a proposition in which they help each other: she’ll help him restore his reputation and she gets to manipulate what gets revealed in the book.
As Sophia and Macalister work together, he can’t help but be intrigued by this girl who is half his age and has her own hidden agenda. As their relationship evolves into a darkly sexual one, Macalister realizes that despite his demand for control, she may just be his undoing. And this time he may not recover from the fall…
The Redemption is an age-gap romance, though not quite as dark as the first three books in the FRA series. Usually I wouldn’t touch an age-gap romance with a ten-foot pole–they’re just not my cup of tea–but if there’s one author who will get me to pick up tropes I, 95% of the time, avoid like the plague, it’s Nikki Sloane and she did not disappoint with The Redemption.
Previously, we only saw Macalister through Marist and Royce’s POV and they both have a definite opinions about him, but now we’re in Macalister’s POV and really learn what really makes him tick and his thought process in relation to his actions. Like I said, I was’nt a fan of Macalister but less than a quarter in this book and I was whistling a different tune.
I love Macalister and Sophia together–I never would have paired them together when I was reading the first three FRA books. But, they are perfect together and actually have a lot in common. The way their relationship developed, I loved! Despite Macalister’s strong personality, Sophia met him head on and held her own. Their chemistry was scorching and the smexy times were HOT!
According to Nikki Sloane, The Redemption is her longest book yet and I loved every word! I wouldn’t have minded it being longer actually because I love the FRA world so much and welcome any extra pages that will get me to spend more time with my faves. Yes, we get some glimpses of Marist, Royce, and Vance (can’t wait for Vance’s book!!), but the scene stealer was Lucifer the cat! If you’re a fan of Nikki’s dark mafia romance Torrid, the couple from that book also made a cameo which was such a treat because that duology was what turned me into a Nikki Sloane fangirl.
Anyway, I highly recommend The Redemption! I do think you need to read the first three books in the Filthy Rich American series before picking up this book, or else you’re going to miss a lot of Macalister’s character and Sophia too. But, trust me, the entire series is amazing and unlike any dark romances out in the market right now. The Redemption is a must-read for all FRA fans–one-click it right now!
WOW, WOW, WOW… can I just say WOW!
I have been looking forward to reading Macalister Hale’s story and all I can say is WOW!! Ms. Sloane has been one of my favorite authors since I started reading the Blindfold Club. I just can’t seem to get enough and I have devoured every single one of her books.
Macalister might not have been on my good side throughout this Filthy Rich Americans series but he definitely proved a point that he could change and changed he did in his telling story.
Sophia, although she was much younger than Macalister she definitely was the right fit for him. She was a very bright, smart and sexy woman who knew what she wanted and went for it with no shame at all. They definitely made a great pair aside from their age differences.
The chemistry was scorchingly hot and I loved every minute of it.
I can’t tell you nothing else other than this book definitely made my top reads of 2020!!
Sweet mother of all that is holy …. so THIS is happening … #holdme
Macalister *fucking* Hale …. I hate that I love you but goddammit I love you deeply!
THIS.BOOK. It’s dark and it’s edgy and so damn sexy and just everything you’d expect from a Nikki Sloane story. IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT.
Sidenote: I don’t think you necessarily have to start at the beginning of this series to enjoy this story for everything that it is, but it would definitely help you understand Macalister Hale a whole heck of a lot better.
Nikki Sloane never fails to give us an amazing story but I never thought she could bring out our love and compassion for Macalister Hale. Boy was i totally wrong!
Macalister Hale has made all the wrong decisions a man could make and even some no one would ever dream of making, like trying to steal his own sons soon to be wife. Even after saving her life by ending his own wife’s you still just can’t have any sympathy for him. But when he returns home after serving his prison time he needs help building up his character again to where he can possibly take over his Banking company. He’s convinced by Sophia Alby a coworkers daughter to let her help rebuild his reputation, but is it for real or a trick to take him down again?
Sophia is the sweet little rich girl who everyone feels they can confide all their secrets to, not knowing shes keeping tabs on everyone in case it can help her in her desire to bring the one person she despises the most down. Offering to help Macalister rebuild his reputation gives Sophia the opportunity to bring her dream to fruition, only to let herself fall for the older man who no one else understands. After spending time with him, Sophia realizes that there are deep secrets that make Macalister the way he is and shes determined to find out how to help him and convince him she is good for him.
Sophia brings out a different side to Macalister I never thought was there but never say never because you will find out that everyone has a good side you just have to have faith and determination to find it and nurture it til its fully blooming.
Nikki Sloane gives us an age difference romance that takes us on a extreme roller coaster of a ride and makes us realize everyone is capable of love and loving.
The Redemption by Nikki Sloane is book 4 in the Filthy Rich Americans Series. This is the story of Sophia Alby and Macalister Hale. I haven’t yet read the previous books which I did feel would help me with this book but this author’s writing helped to ease me into their story. So I didn’t have any issues making it a standalone book, but I do want to go back and read the previous books since I enjoyed this one so much. Macalister is back into society where at one time he was the King of the wealthy but now he is working to get back his standing and to fix the tarnished name. This is where Sophia comes forward to offer her services a deal is made between them. Sophia has her reasons for this deal we soon learn. This was a page turning book…I hope to read more from this author soon.
The Redemption is the 4th book in the Filthy Rich Americans series. Originally it looks like there were only going to be 3 books and those first 3 books were Royce and Marist story. Macalister is Royce & Vances’ father. He did play a big role in those books too.
I don’t know what to say. Macalister was the man you loved to hate in the first 3 books. How could a father do the things he did in the first 3 books? Macalister wasn’t a nice man in the first 3 books. And even though he wasn’t a nice man there were times I was kind of rooting for him!
Macalister went to jail for manslaughter. Now he is out & apparently he is a changed man.
The Redemption is Macalister Hale’s & Sophia Alby’s story. Sophia thinks she can help with Macalister’s reputation. He has an infatuation with her but he can’t have her. She is too young. Of course he can’t stay away.
Macalister redeems himself! He certainly still knows how to play those bedroom games he played in the first 3 books. The sexual tension between Macalister and Sophia is off the charts hot and it only gets better!
I loved reading this don’t put me down book! I am looking forward to reading Vance’s story. He is Macalister’s youngest son. I sure hope there will be more of Macalister too!
4.5*
“Everyone loves a bad boy who’s secretly a good man.”
Macalister Hale was HORRIBLE in the first three books of the Filthy Rich Americans series. That being said, myself and many others still loved him. Sometimes very bad men (in fiction) have something about them you just can’t help but feel drawn to. Mac had that “something”, and it pours out of him in The Redemption. What I loved about this story is Macalister becomes who he was always meant to be. Not only because he meets his perfect match with his heroine, Sophia, but also because of the things he experienced in the first three books. His failures, his losses, and now all of the things he is gaining back in this novel. Let’s just say that Ms. Sloane does a great job taking him from mean old baddie, to sweet sexy Daddy… I mean man.
This read is definitely older man and younger woman, with a submissive lite vibe. It doesn’t have that salacious feel that the first three books had. He isn’t just chasing after some young woman, who doesn’t belong to him, that he wants to conquer. He’s chasing after a woman who WANTS to be chased. While Sophia submits, she is also on the same playing field as Mac. Not only do they want each other, but they come to find they need each other as well. You can tell they are equals in so many ways even though it’s reluctant at times, from some sides of the equation.
All in all this is a great read. For some reason I did expect this one to be a bit darker, but it wasn’t really. It was definitely a redemption story. A man who had lost everything climbing back out of the hole he dug himself with the help of the savvy woman he falls for.
**Also. I can’t end this without saying that I’d love to stay in Cape Hill forever and read about all these corrupt as hell families. Vance, that sweet cinnamon roll, needs his story too.**
Can you fall in love with a villain? After reading The Redemption by Nikki Sloane your answer will be a resounding YES. Because Macalister Hale is the one of the most arrogant, complicated, deceptive, crooked and infuriating alphahole ever. And I am completely enamoured by him!
When an author recognizes her reader’s feelings and caters to them perfectly, stories like The Redemption are born. I was absolutely fascinated and weirdly obsessed with Macalister Hale from the previous books in this series. He is so wrong in every worst possible way. He manipulates people and their feelings. He is uber rich and doesn’t hesitate to use his money or power for own selfish reasons. He ruthlessly pursues what or whom he wants, consequences be damned. But he has fallen from grace. Abandoned by his family. Stripped off his power in his own company. Socially ostracised. So when Sophia Alby offers him a way to get back his reputation, he strikes a deal with her. But she has her own agenda. And they have an electrifying chemistry. They cannot act on impulse. Because Sophia is half of his age and not the scandal he needs.
Sophia is the fireball that was necessary to break Macalister’s cold and aloof heart. She is smart, sassy, confident and doesn’t let the man dictate her moves. Her life was a mess of loneliness and insecurity behind her instagram perfect social appearance. And someone bossy and possessive like Macalister showed she is priceless. It was excruciatingly painful and at the same time oddly satisfying to see the man breaking down and also getting healed. They play mind games with each other. They tease and taunt and lock horns. They are imperfectly matched. Age is just a number. Because it doesn’t stop them from having the intense and sensational moments. It was a feast of forbidden pleasure which is almost too hot to handle. The story line is absurdly engaging. The author effortlessly put the suspense, the angst, the heat and the swoonworthy emotions in a captivating mix.
The Redemption by Nikki Sloane is so much more than an age gap forbidden romance with the most formidable antihero . It was a minefield of secrets and twists. It was a complete pain in pleasure fest. The writing is simply stunning. And this series is proving to be one of top read EVER.
Received ARC for honest review
“He was a pusher, and I’d become addicted, a junkie for Macalister’s dominance and control.”
This book was EVERYTHING I knew I needed from Macalister Hale.
I have been team Macalister since The Initiation. He’s dominant, he’s ruthless, and he’s back.. for redemption.
I remember as soon as I finished reading The Deception, I BEGGED Nikki for Macalister’s book. I needed it. I craved it.. and man did she deliver.
The Redemption was sexy, rectifying, alluring, addicting, and incredibly hot. I LOVE an intense age gap. There is something about an older man that brings me to my knees.
“I craved control, and her instant response to my dominance was a drug.”
I devour Nikki’s words. Her books are incredibly sexy and steamy. The characters are addicting and their stories are unique. The roller coaster ride she takes you on in each of her books almost gives me whiplash but it’s a welcomed feeling.
If you have not read a Nikki Sloane book yet, I recommend them all to you but if you are starting this series, start with The Initiation. You need the whole story to completely grasp Macalister. He’s a very complicated character and you need all of the books to get a real look at him.
“To the world, you’re a villain. What if you could rewrite the story and become the hero?”
Anyone who read the first three books in this series knows Macalister and probably hates him. Very rarely have I seen an author build-up such disgust for a character to then go and write a story about them. I had so many feelings about him before I even started. I feel while you may have loathed him, I was always surprised how he was able to turn you on too. I was a little surprised to see Sophia as his heroine in this story. I hated her in the previous books. Let’s just say starting this story I was already skeptical if I would even like it.
As usual Nikki Sloane does not disappoint. This was totally a comeback story for Macalister. I loved getting to see the humane side of him. Him and Sophia are perfect for each other. The buildup between them just made the whole thing even hotter. While I expected more drama I feel like we had enough the last few books. Definitely a great read!
I wrote this review based on an advance reading copy that the publisher sent me.
Macalister Hale. Love him or loathe him, he was such an interesting and dynamic character in the previous books in the Filthy Rich Americans series. Powerful, rich and influential, he provided an ongoing supply of conflict and drama.
In The Redemption, Macalister’s world has been plagued by scandal which in turn has somewhat affected his social standing. Enter Sophia Alby, who is convinced that she can help Macalister with restoring his tattered reputation. Sophia won me over early in the story – I loved how deftly she managed a particular situation so she could get the exact outcome she needed. She knew what she wanted, and was determined to get her required end result.
Macalister and Sophie have amazing chemistry together, and I love a well written age difference romance. Macalister is still controlling, and adores pushing Sophia’s boundaries, but it was also interesting to see the differences in his character after the experiences he has recently gone through. Great read.
Macalister Hale is the man everyone loves to hate. He’s addictive, controlling and you can’t help but completely get sucked into his story.
The Redemption was everything I could have hoped for and so much more when it came to Macalister’s story. It was addictive, captivating, intense, hot and something I just couldn’t put down. If you are a lover of age gap romances this is definitely one you will NEED to read. Yes, it is the fourth book in the Filthy Rich Americans series, however, you can easily read this as a standalone, but I would HIGHLY recommend reading all the books because they are amazing! You will also see the major growth and change in Macalister’s character.
Sophia knows everyone’s secrets in Cape Hill and she uses that to her advantage. She is smart, sassy and confident. However, while it may seem like she has the picture-perfect life. She doesn’t. She is lonely, she doesn’t feel like there is anything she can do to please her parents. She strikes a deal with Macalister to help him rebuild is reputation after the events of the last three years. Macalister is dominate, possessive, and cold. However, he is drawn to her. He wants to show her she is worth it. The chemistry between Sophia and Macalister is intense. I loved everything about their forbidden relationship.
The Redemption is full of secrets that will keep you guessing. A MUST READ for anyone who loves this series, who loves Nikki Sloane and who loves forbidden age gap romances.
