TITLE: The Duke wrestles with problems from the past as well as present, to save his betrothed.
Captivating story of sweet young lady Julianna, whose life is ripped apart by her father’s gambling. To repay his debt, he is ready to “sell” her when she is rescued by a young man she had met only minutes before. The Duke steps up to announce he is to marry Julianna when he recognizes what her father has arranged, unbeknownst to her. Thus begins the delightful story of how Martin, the Duke, and Julianna begin their relationship.
The book takes us through several generations of family problems to help us appreciate the characters we meet. How the current generation then faces these problems, and overcomes them, is the scaffolding around which the love story of Martin and Julianna is woven.
This is a sweet and clean story, which was nearly impossible to put down, with a HEA ending. Readers of all ages will enjoy this book.

Juliana Birks is being sold into marriage for her father’s gambling debts. But who is the stranger who just announced their betrothal at a ball?
Martin Huntington, Duke of Brandon, is confused by the woman he just became engaged to. Is she as innocent as she seems?
I Highly Recommend this intriguing and suspenseful story of two people whose families interfere and deceive them both. Will good or evil; love or hate emerge victorious?
A Worthwhile Read Overall
I thought the hero was great but found myself getting frustrated with him at about the halfway point of this book. I am glad I kept reading to the happy ending. The characters evolve nicely in this story that illustrates how a skewed perspective affects how we view others and their actions. Sometimes seeing things in a different light clears the path for better relationships.
Look for redemption to occur to more than one extent in this book.
enjoyable read
lots of character conversation / characters well developed / will read this author again
I had high hopes as the heroine is rescued from a forced betrothal, arranged by her absolutely despicable father to a wicked man, in the formulaic plot line wherein a daughter is exchanged for gambling debts. But the hero trusts no one, and lives his life in fear of any hint of gossip. Still gossip controls that life, and he ends up falsely imprisoned. He’s a Duke, so that was historically not about to happen the way Ms. Lindfield writes it. Her use of titles is also incorrect, using Mr. instead of my Lord. If you make it to the end, the wicked and the despicable ones get off easy, which was dissatisfying, nor am I certain about any redemption, per the title.
Lots of intrigue in this book. And very unpredictable which I just loved.
The characters really came alive to me.
If you’re after easy reading, entertaining it’s a good book
Loved this story and its characters – lots of twists and turns throughout this story which kept me up until I finished it!
Sweet funny and romantic, a little steamy but not overdone.. a total winner!
