In the swamps of New Orleans sits an old church. Its history is steeped in blood and death. For over a century, this abandoned church has inspired fear, and the rumors of the creatures that inhabit it have kept the locals away. The church has been sold, but work on the property has stalled. Centuries-old fears resurface when accidents start to befall the construction crews and ghosts are seen … and ghosts are seen wandering the derelict stone building. No one dares go back until the property has been cleansed.
The Hathaway Foundation is hired to rid the property of ghosts so that work can begin again, only Emma Crane soon discovers it’s not the ghosts they have to fear, but something far more evil.
There was a reason the church was abandoned, a reason a powerful protection spell was put around the property, and a reason everyone from her father’s priest to Silas, her demonic grandfather, is warning her to stay away.
But now that she’s discovered what roams the halls, she can’t walk away. She can’t be responsible for innocents dying when she might have prevented it.
She’ll gather her team and go up against something she thought existed only in books and movies, something even the hunters in the area fear—a primordial evil, a creature that spawned the first vampires.
But can she stop the creature before it’s too late, before its family destroys hers?

I liked this book and the characters. They never cease to surprise me. I am addicted to this series. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I absolutely love this series and the newest addition did not disappoint. I struggled to put this book down and read it in 2 days. I would most definitely recommend this book but if you haven’t read the previous books in this series you should read them first, you won’t be disappointed.
This book was phenomenal, Mattie/Emma shows so much growth and is so charismatic that you can feel so in tune with her. The author really knows how to pull you into the world and make you feel as if you are truly there. I didn’t want the book to end! Mattie’s adventure in The Red Church had so many twists of things I didn’t expect, which made it that much harder to put it down when I had to. The ending is one of my favorite parts it just made my heart swell with happiness. I cannot wait for another one!!
Apryl Baker has done it again! She captures her readers and leave them longing for more!! Her writing and creativity pull you in and make you feel like you’re a part of the story! Always look forward to see where she’ll take us next!!
The newest addition to an amazing series. Maddie/Emma Rose is in it again. She can’t seem to stay safe or out of supernatural trouble. Now she must deal with an evil that even Silas won’t touch and we all hope she wins.
This is a can’t be put down engaging read that I will be telling (bugging) other readers about until they read it too.
I want to talk about how much I love this book. And I really do! Especially the ending (heart flutters!)
But the magnetism isn’t in the story that is revealed, it’s in the stories yet to come..
Like, why was she attracting so many men? What was up with that Simon guy? And what is Kane’s secret project? Will Kasey still develop the land? Can we still trust Nathaniel? What is Cass Willow? What happened to her as a child that stole her protections? Will she ever go to and stay at an entire high society party? Will the hunters trust the foundation? Will there be a big wedding? Will there be children? Will she ever not get scarred up? Will the light and dark in her be at balance? Were all the vampires destroyed? Will we ever go back to the tattoo artist? Will there be anything between Mary and Nathaniel, or Eric and Ethan, Nancy and Zeke? Will anyone ever come between her and Dan? (Their love just seems too perfect.. I want to believe, but when something seems too good to be true….) How many times will Dan be ‘killed’?! Oh – and hearts for Silas!
I can go on and on.. But for the answers, I eagerly await more books!
Emma Rose is maturing; putting in place a foundation to protect and support paranormal hunters, and trying to adapt to her recently re-discovered very rich and mannered family. Into this situation a job comes up, to ‘clean’ the Red Church of what appears to be ghostly presences. Only it’s not that simple. It never is with Emma. Several new characters are introduced and old ones reappear in this tense and enthralling instalment in Emma’s life. There are some loose ends (Simon Ayers, the sudden male attraction that Emma is getting) which will hopefully be tied up in future books but I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who likes a paranormal-themed story, with a hint of romance.
This was a fantastic continuation of the story of Emma Crane aka Mattie Louise Hathaway to those who have read the Ghost Files Series as well.
The Red Church sits on 20 secluded acres on the outskirts of New Orleans overlooking the bayou and it’s a property with a frightening history and a deadly secret. After the property is accidentally sold off at auction by an accountant for the local Catholic church looking to raise funds, the new owner approaches Emma’s new organization, The Hathaway Foundation for help clearing the supernatural elements from the property so that development could begin. After extensive research, Emma discovers the property to be home to an evil unlike anything she has ever faced before. Will Emma and her friends and family be able to figure out how to defeat an evil older than the world itself before construction begins and it’s unleashed upon the unsuspecting population of the city of New Orleans?
I cannot get enough of this series! I love the characters and the story is a page turner that I cannot wait to see what happens. I have been a fan of this series since Ghost Files. I never get tired of doing a re-read through this series or Ghost Files. I love how this series not only focuses on ghosts but other paranormals. The secondary characters I get a huge kick out of and they help add humor to the story. I cannot wait to see what happens next with these group of characters.
With every book you get brought into the world of the paranormal just a little bit more. This series started out as just a foster girl that happened to have the ability to see ghosts, and she thought that was all there was out there. Now that girl is so much more powerful than anyone thought she could be, even those that knew what was waiting underneath. I love this series and all the characters that are introduced. I can’t wait to see what comes next for the gang.
