The last time I saw Nevada Kane, I was seventeen and he was loading his things into the back of his truck, about to embark on a fourteen-hour drive to the only college that offered him a full ride to play basketball. I told him I’d wait for him. He promised to do the same. But life happened. I broke my promise long before he ever broke his—and not because I wanted to.We never saw each other again … to.
We never saw each other again …
Until ten years later when Nevada unexpectedly returned to our hometown after an abrupt retirement from his professional basketball career. Suddenly he was everywhere, always staring through me with that brooding gaze, never returning my smiles or “hellos.”
Over the years, I’d heard that he’d changed. And that despite his multi-million dollar contracts and rampant success, life hadn’t been so kind to him.
He was a widower.
And a single father.
And rumor had it, he’d spent his last ten years trying to forget me, refusing to so much as breathe my name … hating me.
But just like a rebound, he’s back.
And I have to believe everything happens for a reason.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: For a limited time, this book contains one bonus book, which means THE REBOUND ends around 50% on your Kindle. Rest assured that it is still a full-length novel. 🙂

So heartbreaking. It’s kinda dark because it’s dealing with many types of loss and stubbornness and grudges. And so many wasted years because of it. It’s frustrating because you want to slap Yardley’s younger self for being so naive and Nevada’s older self for being so cold. But it’s so hard! I loved it because you can feel both sides of the story – and they both really hurt. I just want to cry. Both sad and happy tears. But I’m just sappy like that.
Great read!!
What a lack of communication is capable of! That was the only thought I had when I finished reading the book. If the two main characters had a single conversation, the whole plot would not exist. Right at the beginning, we already received news that I confess I found strange. The Rebound is not a single book. Actually it’s the second volume. The author began to develop her idea, but came the point that she thought would be too long, so she split the story. So we have a first book, telling how they met, how the relationship developed until the fateful night that separated them. The second, The Rebound, begins after ten years, where they meet again. I received a digital ARC, which contained both books. But I caught myself thinking how it will be done with the printed form, if the two will be condensed to become one. I thought it was strange. I started with this, but in the end, I had to read the other, because the initial details are missing, you can understand, but lack details. Honestly, there was no need for this division.
Yardley is the new girl in town. She moved with her family because her father thinks this new place is the key to his financial success. Needless to say, this change did not please his teenage daughters. Missing her friends, her old life, she hates being the newbie, of drawing attention. Until she meets Nevada. The guy who practically forced a presentation will become a reason to like this new place.
Nevada is a boy who has had many difficulties in his life. And still has. He lives in a trailer, he is poor, his mother works hard to pay the bills and the only hope of getting a better life is to get a scholarship for college. When he meets Yardley, he delights in her.
The two will get involved. He, a constant figure in her house, will have a glimpse of what life is like in a “normal” family. She will, after much insistence, be able to meet his family. Two people with different backgrounds, with extreme financial conditions, but who love each other with intensity.
Nevada gets the scholarship, but thinks about giving up to stay in town, get married and get a job. She does not accept it because she knows that this is the chance of his life. So they make a deal. He will go to college, they will continue to date, they will speak daily and in the days off he will come to see her. All right, no problem. Until one night and a phone call change everything.
Ten years go by. And life was in charge of transforming those two. Yardley practically stopped living. She did not study, she faced a personal tragedy, saw her financial condition change, had no friends, closed himself to the world and lives crying alone because she does not settle for having lost Nevada. I was deeply irritated by this character. We understand that you love the boy, but spending ten years as a zombie is too much.
Nevada has also changed. The poor boy is now a basketball star. Famous, wealthy, widower and with two small daughters. He tried to build a new life for himself, but he was never able to forget the pain his one love caused. I found his situation more realistic. He had a disappointment, suffered, met someone who was the complete opposite, fell in love and built a family.
Now back to his hometown, it is impossible not to cross with Yardley. I liked him better than hers. She annoyed me with these constant whining. The insertion of his wife was understandable but unnecessary. He even mentions that he loved her, not as much as Yardley, but he loved. But I do not believe it. I think it was more of an attraction to someone who was different from what he associated with bad memories. And killing the poor woman to justify his return was a terrible bad taste. It was just not to marry him and that’s it. It would be more consistent with this crazy love.
The Rebound then shows this reunion between the two. He does not even want to hear about her, does not stand her presence. She is very happy to hear of his return. He avoids at all costs to bump into her and when this occurs he is rude. She thinks he returned because of her. His life has taken a turn. She seems to have woken up for life. And this contradiction lasts throughout the work.
What moves the book is this secret around that night. As I read, the more curious I was. I liked him adjusting to his new reality, to show how difficult it is for an average person to become famous and after retiring to try to adjust to anonymity again. Interesting also the situation with his school friends. There was no way to return to friendship from the point of departure, when everyone took different paths. He with his family and his daughters was also fun. It showed that that boy from the past was still hidden inside him.
Yardley, as I have already mentioned, did not please me. Her forced presence in his life was too much. The fact that she thought he bought the property for her was out of the question. The impression I had was that she daydreamed most of the time.
What about the so-called secret? You can guess along the way. Not with all the details, and when you find out it makes sense. What does not make sense is the reaction of both. How he believes in someone else’s phone call? Who in their right mind would not go after the truth. And simply not responding to your girlfriend’s contact attempts really is the best way out. Spare me. She on the other hand, I think that was the only moment that I have sympathized with the character. She really had to deal with a difficult situation. The circumstances she found herself were sad. But she still made a mistake. How do you accept this kind of agreement and not communicate your boyfriend? Surreal to the extreme. At the very least, the three of them should sit down and talk.
I liked the beginning of the story, I did not like what it has become in the present, I loved Nevada, and I found the secret serious, but the way it reverberated very stupid. Everyone, talk. A good book, with some irregularities, but that does not compromise the whole of the work.
Nevada and Yardley meet in high school. Nevada leaves for college, they promise to love one another. A tragic series of events happen to both characters. This book was amazing! I teared up at times. A wonderful second chance romance that is unlike others.
I received an arc from Hidden Gems Romance and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I absolutely fell in this book from the very beginning. I loved the storyline the writing everything was absolutely perfect.
This was a second chance romance, but with so much hatred i could feel it pouring from the pages. I think if i was in Nevada’s position i would have acted the same, but i would have given Yardley a chance to explain but that’s what made this book so angsty.
So much happens to these characters in the 10years they were apart and the fact of what was keeping them was just an explanation that was never said. They both had different lives when they were apart and so much changed
I loved both characters and really felt each side of thier story’s and could see both sides and sympathise with both of them.
I felt so sorry for Griffen as well and for me to a point his storyline made the book for me.
I laughed, i cried and just really took a journey and loved absolutely every second of it, this is a book i could read again and again.
A huge 5 Stars
3.5 Stars
Overall, this was a good book. I enjoyed the second-chance theme, and the writing was done well. I really liked both Yardley and Nevada in the beginning of the book. Their early relationship was cute, and I loved them together. As the story went on, however, I didn’t like how Nevada wouldn’t listen to Yardley’s side, and Yardley became somewhat of a doormat. I loved how Yardley was with Nevada’s children; she was really great with both of them.
What disappointed me the most was that once Nev and Yardley got back together, it went directly to the epilogue two years later, so I felt that the ending was really rushed. I will most definitely read more by Winter Renshaw.
I should know better than to read a Winter Renshaw book when I am out of tissues. This second chance story takes you from one extreme to another. You feel the love, get your heart torn apart, feel a little anger at someone’s stubbornness and then blubber over all the feels. Yep, felt all that. I don’t think I have read any of Winter’s books that weren’t worth a 5 star rating and this one is no exception. I received an advance reader copy from Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review. You will not be disappointed. I devoured this book and am still feeling the raw emotions long after I finished it. Think all second chance stories are the same? Think again!
I thoroughly enjoyed this standalone, second-chance romance from one of my favorite writer, Winter Renshaw.
Yardley Dove Devereaux, the new girl in town, caught the attention of Nevada Kane, a basketball star on the rise; he was mesmerized by her beauty. What started as friendship slowly developed into deeper one. As lovers they became inseparable. But an offer came to Nevada to play basketball to another state, Yardley knew this day will come, and she won’t hinder this opportunity for Nevada to be a famous athlete. Promises made to each other until Yardley broke it. Yardley wanted to explain her side, but Nevada won’t hear any of it. It took ten years for their path to cross again when Nevada went back to town with two small daughters in tow. As much as possible both, Yardley and Nevada, try to ignore each other. But it’s obvious they still have some lingering feelings for each other. Will they be able to forgive and forget what happened years ago and move on?
This book is like a roller coaster ride of emotion for me, one moment I’d like to shake Yardley for what she’s did (breaking her promise to Nevada) and then when I knew the reason behind it, I’m on her side. Winter definitely wrote another heartfelt story of love, lost and found. Her written words just flow eloquently and characters are well defined. The plot of the story will entice you to never stop reading until the last page. It was a great read for me. Highly recommended!
The Rebound is a great second chance romance read. This story is one of love, loss, regrets, mistakes, friendships, commitments and realizing that first loves always leaves the biggest impressions. I enjoyed both Yardley and Nevada characters, even if there were times I wanted to slap both of them. The story flow was perfect and the storyline was great. My only complaint is that the story ended at about 66% on my kindle but the bonus is that there is a prequel to the story afterwards. The prequel filled in some of the gaps about what actually occurred between Yardley, Nevada and Griffin and it was also a good read. I really wanted more of this story and these characters. I recommend this book to romance lovers who enjoy a great second chance romance read.
This book is why Winter is one of my favorite authors. It was written beautifully and I loved Nevada and Yardley. I’m not gonna lie, it did have me tearing up in moments and it will pull at your heartstrings. Amazing. One of my favorite reads this year.
