Every Rose has a Thorn, and every love has a tale…Rose “Red” isn’t a Rees. Washed ashore as a babe, she cannot remember her parents or the meaning the locket she still wears around her neck. When clues point north, Rose heads to Scotland to uncover the truth about family she had lost. Fortunately for her, the clan leader is more than willing to help her…because Rose is his long lost betrothed. … long lost betrothed.
Struggling to find peace after his father’s death and shocked at finding the woman he’d been betrothed to since childhood, Thorn is torn between marrying someone he knows and trying to convince the fierce Rose to remain with him as his wife. But Rose is more than just a beautiful woman; she is a puzzle, and much too tempting to let go.
While unwilling to tie herself to a man who says he will be her husband, Rose cannot shake the desire to know what it feels like to be Thorn’s. But she quickly comes to realize that there is more to Thorn than a man of laws and steel, and more to their attraction than she ever thought possible.

What a pirate adventure Rosamund Winchester has given us to enjoy. Rose “Red” Rees is not a Rees at all. She was the survivor of a shipwreck and taken into the clan as a very young child. She remembers very little of her family and does not know her real last name. Always wanting to find her real family, she searches wherever she is; hoping to pick up some information that will help her discover her family. The only real lead she has is a necklace with a rose and thorn carved on it. Finally, clues send her north into Scotland to uncover evidence to help her. Thorn happens to be the laird she finds; that is willing to help her discover her past. But as romance builds between them, can the real reason she came north ever be found?
Rose(Red) has grown up among a family of smugglers and pirates after she was washed up on the beach after a storm as a child. She has vague memories of her father but that’s all.
Dubhach (Thorn) MacPherson has been searching for his lost betrothed for years. Many women have come claiming to be her, but even though he hasn’t seen her since they were children he will know her. Unfortunately as the clan chief and last of his line he can’t wait much longer to marry.
Our fierce and firery heroine is a fascinating character.
I loved the story but feel it could easily have been fleshed out into a bigger book. At the end of the story we met another character that looks really interesting.
Good fun.
An adventure that grabbed me from the first page as little Rosette MacDeargh, daughter of Angus MacDeargh, clan chief and laird of Dearghrose Castle was pulled out of her father’s arms and swept out to sea. Thus the story begins many years later to find Rose had been rescued by the faulous Rees and had grown up as one of them. But she always known, in the back of her mind she wasn’t one of them. She knew she had a family elsewhere and she had a fierce need for belonging that played out in many different ways.
But she was soon to find out about her family and that she had been bethrothed from birth to Dubhach (Thorn) MacPherson, Laird of Gleneden, who had been looking for her all these years. But what a man!
“Rose fought the urge to reach out and pet the large, gorgeous man before her. Damn, but he was the perfect mix of muscles, lithe grace, and masculine beauty. He looked like one of the marble statues her cousin had brought back after a smuggling run to Athens.”
This story was amazing as the author brought the characters to life and the fiesty, take no prisoners, beautiful red headed Rose, was a force to be reconned with to put it mildly! She would not be marrying anyone! Take heart because there is so much to this story with secrets, a jealous wench, entertaining banter being tossed back and forth between Rose and Thorn ( oh yes, can you see it?).
A brilliant tale that will keep you entertained between smiling and trying to cool off, as the sizzling attraction heats up between these two. But put aside some time, because once you turn the first page, you will not be able to stop until you reach the end!! Loved it!
I need a fan after these two and the intense attraction between them. Sparks fly the moment they meet and intensifies with every second. They were made for each other in every way possible. They battle together and surprise each other in different ways.
I did not see the twist with Briar coming, but she lived up to her name in many shocking ways. As always the Rees family will surprise in the end and you won’t see it coming.
Rose is the one I’ve been the most excited for and her story went beyond my expectations. You will love her at the words “Oh, I cannot imagine what would have happened if these strapping men had not come to save me.” She is not the average woman and is as stubborn as they come.
Thorn is a man of honor and will do anything to protect his people and those he loves. I loved that he made it clear that he wanted her and it wasn’t just because of the contract between families. He’ll give you chills when he whispers “The most beautiful rose in the world,”
This has to be one of my all time favorite books!
