A Top 50 Amazon Bestseller.“Powerful, gripping, unflinchingly honest and sensuously gorgeous writing.” — Kristan Higgins, New York Times Bestselling AuthorRITA® Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King’s Men Duet.Ambition. Revenge. Love.Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.Though surrender is what … resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.
Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we’re the pawns and players.
Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

I honestly have no words right now after having finished. I couldn’t put this book down and flipped the pages faster then I have in a long time. Each twist and turn had me more on the edge of my seat. I without a doubt needed to know what happened. Lennix and Maxim themselves are a force to be reckoned with, let alone when you have them as one. This is a book and duet I won’t soon forget. That is for dang sure. My heart is still racing as I finish this review. This book, this series, man it’s just one of a kind
Kennedy Ryan takes us on a whirlwind drama/romance. She is a beautiful storyteller and I can never get enough. Some romances are so cookie-cutter but I have never read one of Kennedy‘s books that is anything like anyone else’s, or even her own. I adored Lennix! Strong heroines, there’s just not enough of them! She’s so full of devotion, strength, love and so much conviction! Her love for her Doc is pretty amazing to rad. Such a strong, independent, driven woman who can still adore the love of her life, all the while standing by her convictions! I loved her so much! Maxim was a pillar of smarts, devotion and strength to me. His vision makes him so much more attractive to the reader.
The sad moments in this book broke me. I broke for the characters, felt what they were feeling. I’m so glad justice was served!
I can’t wait to see where these complex characters go in the epilogue!!! Kennedy Ryan is one of my favorite writers ever, I highly recommend this book and her entire collection of writing!
There are not enough stars for this book….for this duet!!! I was fortunate enough to delve into this amazing world of Lennix & Maxim early on, and they have left a permanent mark on my heart and soul. The writing of K Ryan is impeccable, the story authentic and original, and the characters are inspiring and make you want to change the world!
The love story of Lennix & Maxim is not a conventional one. It is shocking and intense, and they have their share of both steamy and tragic moments. This book picks up right where The Kingmaker left off, and there wasn’t a moment that I was not glued to each and every page – every word. The circumstances in which Lennix & Maxim find themselves in are both harrowing and suspenseful. My heart was pounding and aching for these characters at times, and I just could NOT get enough of them. Their passion for not only each other, but for their beliefs; the dedication and loyalty to their causes, their family members, their political identities, and their backgrounds all combine to create a story that will leave you speechless.
K Ryan has a gift for writing romance stories that touch on today’s social issues and have inspiring and diverse heroes and heroines. She does it all with integrity, respect and through diligent research. In this duet, the Native American culture and traditions play a significant role, and I was simply in awe at times – both inspired and transfixed by this beautiful group of people, AND this OUTSTANDING heroine, Lennix. Once again K Ryan has written a female powerhouse within an epic romance story that will leave you breathless and inspired! I am nowhere near done with this duet – I am recommending it to every family member, friend, and neighbor, and I will gladly read it again and again. BRAVO K Ryan – you have single-handedly catapulted the Contemporary Romance genre with this duet to a new level all on it’s own! Well Done!!!!
5 “ We weren’t unlikely, we were inevitable” Stars!! Wow! Just WOW!! What a phenomenal and powerful read. Maxim and Lennix’s chemistry is off the charts, scorching hot, and my ultimate favorite couple ever! Their journey is not a race but instead, a test of endurance for the long haul. I absolutely love Kennedy Ryan’s writing style. All the feels, not only for the connection between the main characters, but for all the supporting characters. It’s thought provoking, moving, poetic, and you won’t be able to put it down. It captures your attention from beginning to end and makes you a believer. Bravo! A must read!
“Traditions are the memories of those before us, breathed to life when we carry them on.”
5 Must Read Stars
This duet has left me with the most EPIC book hangover of the year. From the start it drags you in and pulls you under with its suspense/angst. I was completely enthralled from the first line of the first page and I could not put it down until I finished. This duet will consume every aspect of you until you are finished. Kennedy has proven once again why she is a one-click author for me.
“The world comes to a complete stop and the only thing still in motion is the blood galloping through my veins like wild horses, like mustangs.”
The evolution of Nix and Maxim is truly fascinating to see. These two are both so strong willed and complex people that they can’t help but buttheads. And at the same time their love is so all consuming that they complete each other on a level that no one has been able to. I loved the duality of them and their relationship, they are pure strength and vulnerability but only with each other. Nix and Maxims connection is embedded in their souls down to their very marrow and it will cause your heart to ache with the feelings this story elicits.
“Lennix Moon Hunter, Yavapai-Apache Nation,” she says, her voice fierce, her eyes lit for battle. “The last warriors to surrender. And I am the girl who chases stars.”
Nix’s unwavering and defiant spirit is shown throughout this masterpiece. In every page she is on you can feel her strength come through. I am in complete awe of this woman that Kennedy has created. Listening to her words and watching her stand her ground pours from the pages and seeps into your soul. You can’t help but be touched by her steadfast convictions and her brilliant mind, this character, this woman is one that you can look up to.
“Every cell in my body screams with the need to reclaim her physically. To stamp myself into her skin and feel the imprint of her burned into mine.”
Maxims possessive/alpha nature shines through in this story more than the first. You can’t help but want to peek into his complex and brilliant mind. This man consumes any room he is in. He fills it with nothing more than just his presence, but you can’t escape. You can feel him in every pore of your body and soul. When he speaks, you listen. The determined nature of his persona and the way he loves Nix so completely will make you fall head of heels for this man.
“I signed on for you, whatever that means, wherever that takes us.”
This story caused me to ache in places I didn’t even know existed, I cried through so much of this, but felt the strength of these character’s build up through their tears and pain. Watching as Nix and Maxim hold onto their convictions even through their grief while also trying to reconcile their new life with their old one, caused my soul to ache. But with all the tragedy and all the tears wept, Kennedy infuses humor to help lighten some of the levity of this story and help lift your heart up.
“We weren’t unlikely, Nix, “I say, no levity in the words. “We were inevitable.”
Kennedy has created a dynamic and consuming read that brings to light socio-economic issues on a global level that so desperately need to be addressed. And at the same time an EPIC love story that will pull at every single emotion you have. This duet is absolutely a MUST READ! Kennedy doesn’t pull any punches with this story, she doesn’t shy away from the true issues and reading it will open your eyes to some things that you may have never thought of prior. This is unequivocally the best duet of 2019!!!
It’s here, people!!! The feel-good, hearts topping and breathtaking conclusion to The King Maker by the uniquely talented, Kennedy Ryan! If your heart wasn’t 100% in the first book, you will be climbing over that percentage in this one.
In the first half of this story we get introduced to the founders of our country the indigenous people the native Americans and the culture they live and breathe. Like any culture, the amount of importance placed is a priority. Yet, our nation did a huge injustice to the Native Americans by not protecting their land and honoring their practices. In Our Nation, we are taught to always stand up and voice our opinion for what we believe to be true and correct. However, in some cases arrogance outweighs facts and hard truths. We want to instill the best qualities and traits into our future leaders and generations. Yet, we continue to see that the individuals in power that are making decisions to prevent that and literally causing our future to be more taxing and stressful. I wouldn’t be surprised if our future generations live less due to these decisions and lack of moral.
We met Lennix and Maxim in the beginning of both of their journies to to garner truth to their causes and not stay silent. We were drawn to their words, their character and their chemistry. Lennix and Maxim both as individuals sought to make right what was, what has and what is wrong in society and politics. Their voices had enough conviction to attract each other and others to their genuine goodness. Throughout this second and third chance love story you will be blown away by the sacrifices both Lennix and Maxim give to follow through with their purpose. In so many ways they are alike without having to tell each other what entices them and gets their blood to heat in their bones. These two are a force to be reckoned with and each word on each page wether written by Kennedy Ryan or the quotes and teachings included will broaden your view and views on the amount of topics discussed. You will take the same path by their side each time you turn the page.
Their footsteps become yours and heat up your skin and your cheering them on and fist bumping at all the right places. One of the best things a man can say to you to feel the depth of his feelings is the words said by Maxim Cade. He may have not said them directly to Lennix but as the reader you felt them and lived them as if you were Lennix.
“I love her, I tell Grim softly, seriously. “I don’t own her. You don’t hold back someone like Lennix because the beauty is on how she flies. I want to see her soar. I just want to make sure she always lands safely. You know?”
Kennedy never surprises me anymore. From every book through every series she draws you in and makes you literally beg for the next page, next chapter and ultimately the epilogue. I tried to stretch this book out as long as I could just to make it last longer. I only ever made it a few hours because the book kept calling to me. Putting me right back where I left my heart all along; Through these pages. Of this beautiful and inspirational love story that can only be catgorized as One of a Kind and earning its right to have an entire shelf to itself on my bookcase at least.
Unequivocally 10 Happy Fantabulous STARS
I can’t see the letters …. maybe someone will help me ???? I just finnished this book and my eyes don’t want to stop crying…. I’m speachlesss and breathless…. After this duet my life won’t be the same, for sure.
Another book from this author and AGAIN I try to find accurate words in my head to write review – The Rebel King just hit me of the ground. It’s not only a love story with some ups and downs, THIS BOOK is everything!
I can’t count how many times this author’s words take me up, from my knees…. I can’t count how many times mrs Ryan’s words gave me back hope… I can’t count how many times Her words made me feel proud, that I’m oridinary woman…. who can fight with every demon on her way !!!! Gah…. The Rebel King is not only THE BOOK, A GOOD STORY… The Rebel King is pure perfection and LIFE. The story line… Oh wow I see how much work author put to be prepared to write this story, how much respect she has for readers, and for people who helped her, when she was writting this duet. Bravo Mrs Kennedy – I want to give You standing ovation for a long time.
I’m in love with Doc and how much he adored Nix. Their love is so strong, and so pasionate. They love each other, just like they live – they share their hearts with everything, what are they doing. It was easy to read how they love each other, but it was also the hardest to see what kind of problems they have to managed. In second book they stopped my heart more times that I was expected…. but I’m glad that we sll survived (and my poor kindle). I can’t tell too much, because there so many things that could spoiled the suprise.
I couldn’t imagine more perfect conclusion for this duet. ABSOLUTELY MUST READ !!!!
5 The Future is Theirs Stars!!
Once again Ms. Ryan’s writing had me losing a full night of sleep and bringing me to my knees with a story that is consuming, dynamic, and all-powerful. In the conclusion of the All the King’s Men Duet we pick right up where we left off in The Kingmaker. And when I say right where we left off, I mean, in the first few pages, my heart was practically beating out of my chest with the intensity of the scenes being played out.
Within this book we have Lennix and Maxim’s love story that has been powerful and almost painful over the last two decades reaching a point where they just may get their HEA. But it’s definitely a hard fought battle they’ve had to endure to get there that’s for sure!!
There is so much action in this book that nearly had me throwing my kindle in the middle of the night because events that take place are just unfathomable. There’s a tornadic pain, (I totally “borrowed” those word from Ms. Ryan), that I wasn’t sure I could endure it let alone our H/h. There are twists and turns of epic proportions resulting in actions that shocked even the strongest of people.
Throughout it all, Ms. Ryan brings us a story that is on point with topics we are currently dealing with in our nation and showing a love that is truly meant to be….
“’We weren’t unlikely Nix,’ I say, no levity in the words. ‘We were inevitable.’ Her smile dissolves, too, until we’re staring at each other, and I’m feeling the weight of finding your person in a world full of somebodies. In a crowded, galaxy, finding your star.”
Ms. Ryan’s ability to tell a story that draws in the reader making us feel 100% invested with the characters, the story and the actions they take both good and bad, is one of the reasons I will forever be a fan of her books. I know with absolute certainty when I pick up a book with her name on the cover, I will be taken on a journey that is riveting, spellbinding and gripping in its intensity. And the journey will be worth every tear I cry, every frustrated scream I yell and every heart-stopping moment.

I love Lennix and Maxim. They make this story for sure. The writing is terrific, as usually from this author, and the story had me pulled in the whole time. It wasn’t expected or conventional. My love for book 1 is tremendous, and this one was really good, although I didn’t love it quite as much as book 1. That was where I fell in love with the couple, though, so that makes sense. This duet has great storytelling and wonderful characters, and I highly recommend it. It’s a great read
”THEY BURIED US, BUT THEY DIDN’T KNOW WE WERE SEEDS.”
You know how there are books that you wait and wait for, anticipating their arrival, and they just can’t live up to your expectations and all the hype??? Yeah, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM!!!…THE REBEL KING is the perfect conclusion to the All The King’s Men Duet and so much more….But you MUST read THE KINGMAKER first!!
I don’t even know where to begin…There’s nothing I can say about THE REBEL KING that won’t be said over and over again, and in way better words, than I can express, because, let’s be honest, Kennedy Ryan has set the bar extremely high, for what now constitutes a “good book.”
The ALL THE KING’S MEN Duet is informational, educational and thought provoking in the best of all possible ways…..and inside those enlightening pages, is also one of both the hottest and the most beautiful love stories ever written…..I laughed…I cried….and I felt everything in between…..Kennedy Ryan’s words evoke feelings that are, sometimes, life affirming and even, dare I say, life altering…..proving just how powerful words are when conceived in the right heart and delivered to paper through the right vessel…..As she subtly educates us, Kennedy Ryan has the potential to either change or validate what we believe, and, therefore, who we are…She makes us want to be better people… Maya Angelo said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”……You can’t read this duet and not just know better, you HAVE to do better…
Maxim Kingston Cade and Lennix Moon Hunter are the perfect characters…I love their vibe, their strength, their intelligence, their principles, their chemistry and their passion for each other and their world and I, especially, love that unconditional, never ending love they have for each other….This author’s talent of putting these emotions on the page, is just…not normal….
The more books I read by Kennedy Ryan, the more inadequate and unworthy I feel even writing a review for any of her books….I truly believe she is now and will always be remembered as one of the best romance authors for long after her writing stops (I’m actually glad I won’t see that day.)….So, for as long as I possibly can, I will devour every book she writes…
What a journey. What a love. What an epic conclusion to All The Kings Men Duet. Kennedy Ryan delivers. I strapped myself in and was ready for takeoff from page 1. I was on the edge of my seat. Biting my nails, holding myself in not wanting to go the toilet. I was completely immersed in this story. With Nix and Doc.
The prose jumps off the page. Flawlessly written. I was completely mesmerized thanks to the undeniable connection and intoxicating love between this couple. Wanting and needing more with every page.
Nix continues to blow me away with her strength which she finds within herself and through her heritage. It’s beautiful and fascinating to experience for reader like me who doesn’t have a broad knowledge about the history of the Native Americans.
Doc still takes charge when there’s something or someone he wants but now there’s more at stake. He gives it all just like Nix. They’re are two dedicated and strong personalities who complement each other. Perfectly.
Their journey is monumental in terms of their growth as a couple and as individuals. They are each other’s constants. They find solace and a pure need in one another and I reveled every moment. Their love is highly addictive and so intense. They struck a connection when Nix was 17 and Maxim 24 and it changed them both irrevocably. Now in their early and late thirties they now know what they want and are not afraid to claim it!
The Rebel King has it all. Suspense, humor and steam. It’s a perfect conclusion to All The Kings Men. There’s a reason Kennedy Ryan has won the RITA. She’s so gifted and versatile in her storytelling. The reader never knows what they’ll get from a Ryan novel. The Rebel King is impeccable from its prose to the overall story. Spectacular!
5 Once In A Lifetime Stars
It’s always an indelible experience to read a Kennedy Ryan novel. She has a distinct and beautiful style. She puts so much into her storytelling beyond just a simple romance. She is truly one of my most favorite authors.
Anxious. It’s the first feeling I get as I open the pages to The Rebel King. It’s where I was at the end of The Kingmaker honestly. As the story progresses, that feeling and others, ebb and flow. Lennix Moon Hunter is still the strong, determined, passionate person and Maxim Cade is just as passionate and determined with so much raw magnetism. He definitely made my heart flutter. They are the same yet different. Each with things I liked and disliked.
Their love story is quite the journey. It’s consuming. It’s continental. It’s compelling. They grow and bend and flex, but are always mindful of the other. Even if those minds aren’t agreeing. It’s steamy and full of desire.
And then there’s all the moving parts in the background that keep you guessing. A political backdrop, intrigue, suspense, betrayal and the fight for power. That power, and what it means, is a continuing theme throughout the duet.
I’m a reader, reading what she loves – love stories, the beauty in the romance and the struggles they overcome as individuals and as a couple to get to their HEA. My only complaint is that social issues, when they almost become as significant as the romance itself, doesn’t always hit me right. I want to be a thinker, but not so much that it removes me from the main event. Sometimes there was just enough to provoke thought and at other times, a bit too much. But that is a me thing.
Kennedy Ryan’s words can easily be described as eloquent. She has an amazing way of telling a story. The Rebel King and the All the King’s Men Duet is just another example of that fine talent.
These books were amazing! I always end up learning from her books. These books were truly beautifully written. I loved that Maxim supported her, and championed her. He let her fly. I loved how driven Maxim was in every part of his life. This book also crushed me. I didn’t see the event coming at all. It took a hold of my heart and squeezed. It was truly a ride that had crazy ups and downs. Maxim’s father really took a sharp turn also. I loved that he and Maxim found each again. I could truly see her.
My favorite part was by Lennix. “Every morning I wake up and live with purpose, decide to make this a better place, or decide not to just live for myself, but to help those in greatest need, Mama lives on. I am her harvest.”
I could keep on and on about these books. Kennedy Ryan is such a gifted author. I wish I could live in her books. I would highly recommend Kennedy Ryan and all of her books.
There Aren’t Enough Stars to Rate this Story!
Kennedy Ryan is a born storyteller. . . . The pages practically turn themselves Her use of historical/cultural details and a truly adult love story confirm KR as a one of a kind writer. In The Rebel King, KR did what she does best- she painted in exquisite detail the lives of her characters.
The author gifts us with verbal jewels that will make any readers gasp and say “NOOOOOOOOOO .”
Written with sheer elegance. Not a sentence left unfulfilled. This series is one of the most compelling reads I have delved into. I feel more enlightened having read it…
The chemistry between Lennix and Maxim is potent even on paper. The characters are memorable, strong and very real.
Kennedy Ryan clearly has figured out how to free the females of the world from the clichés of being seen as the “weaker sex”. Lennix is the epitome of strength, courage and resilience.
Doc is everything and more.
I cannot really tell you much about the plot or the storylines as it is part of the experience. However, Kennedy Ryan knows her history, but more importantly, she knows just how to capture the struggles and questions of the human heart–yesterday and today. This book is meticulously-researched, spell-bindingly written with luscious prose, compelling and complex characters. Each chapter is a treasure, the kind of story world one is reluctant to leave. This series taken in total is an epic story that encapsulates a detailed slice of life and times, culture and attitudes, science and religion, history and ecology viewed from the adventures of a couple who are very much soul mates
In my humble opinion, Kennedy Ryan has no equal when it comes to creating a realistic world populated by complex characters and enough plot twists to make your head spin.
Unrivaled storytelling. Unforgettable characters
This incredibly powerful and awe-inspiring romance left me stunned and breathless at the end of the first book and The Rebel King continues to soar for the stars! I was holding my breath throughout many of the beginning chapters, and just when I thought I could relax, Ms Ryan blows me away again. Lennix and Maxim are two strong, courageous, and passionate people who never lose sight of themselves, what they stand for, and what is most important. No matter where life takes them, they will do whatever it takes to support and protect each other, even if they have to move heaven and earth to do it. I am so in awe of Lennix and how strong, brave, and resilient she is. Maxim is so indomitable, protective, and swoony. They are a perfect match and I love them both! Their friends and family are also so very intriguing, and honest, adding authentic emotions to this story. I would love to read more about them as well. This phenomenal story is filled with twists and turns, jaw-dropping surprises, heartbreaking tears, sweet laughs, and swoony passion, and I loved every moment. Ms Ryan delivers a beautiful and exquisite story that will renew your faith in humanity and true love. This was the perfect conclusion to this riveting, powerful, and passionate ‘All the King’s Men’ Duet!
Kennedy Ryan will be getting a phone call from my doctor about why I needed medical care for heart failure.
Reading this book–this duet!–is like being on a roller coaster that takes sharp turns, deep dives, and makes you wonder if Kennedy Ryan will ever let you coast, just for a moment, just long enough to take a breath.
When we left off with Lennix, she was kidnapped somewhere in a South American jungle. That plotline is resolved somewhat early in the book, if only because so much more has to happen to this couple. You may think you know where this book is headed, but YOU DO NOT. There was one thing that I thought might happen, but then I talked myself out of it because Kennedy Ryan would never do that, right?, but then IT HAPPENED, and I’m still crying.
The best authors give you the story you need, not the story you want. Remember that as you read this conclusion to the All the King’s Men duet. And then come back and tell me if you cried more than you swooned. It was about fifty-fifty for me.
5 PERFECTION STARS!! Doc and Nix’s story is on of my favorite couples this year. Kennedy Ryan writes perfection with her beautiful words and fantastic storytelling. This story has all the feels, heart touching moments, suspense, ups & downs and a beautiful love story to keep you turning pages. This book will give you closure from the first book. You definitely need to read this duet…download now and start reading.
Kennedy Ryan has a way with words that will astound you. Her storytelling is in a league of its own. The passion and dedication she puts into her characters and their lives bleeds onto every page. The Rebel King is the conclusion to Lennix and Maxims long journey and it was a heartwrenching, yet beautiful ride.
The romance between Lennix and Maxim is not your typical love story. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered two characters as strong willed and determined as these two. Their beliefs, hopes and dreams surpassed anything I could even comprehend. Their dedication to changing the world one issue at a time consumed their lives. At times, their drive and determiation to their various causes overshadowed their love story for me. I appreciate and completely respect a love story with meat and substance, but at times I felt off track. Even so, I am enthralled with Kennedy’s words and her ability capture my heart.
Lennix was probably one of the strongest heroines I’ve ever read, it was no surprise Maxim fell so hard for her. Maxim was just…WOW! I loved him hard and fierce. The push and pull between these two was electric, they were the epitome of a power couple.
There is a reason Kennedy Ryan is a RITA Award winning author. The Kingmaker and The Rebel King stands in a class of its own.
Wow. Just wow! In Kennedy’s hands we trust. This was such a great conclusion to the duet! So many emotions. I can’t believe all that Maxim and Lennix went thru. But damn if they didn’t give up. We were left on the edge of our seats literally by the ending to The Kingmaker and she made sure we were brought right back to that diving in. You just needed to know what happened, it was a given by how we were left LOL. The book was so well written i loved the passion she put into writing this and making sure everything was correct and she had portrayed the Native American culture and nations correctly. Don’t wait, binge now!
Kennedy Ryan is a teacher. She’s a teacher of games and love. Of issues and thoughtfulness. Of cultures and worlds.
She doesn’t just create stories built in our time with undertones that fit our time. She writes stories for each and every one of us. To reach from each corner of the world to each tiny village of the world.
Lennix Moon and Maxim’s story will burn an imprint into your heart, because it is after all a romance. But this story will burn an imprint into your mind and soul. It’s a story that you will pass down to your aunts, moms, daughters and EVERY member of your lives. At an age appropriate level of course
Applause Applause Applause Ms. Ryan. I always wonder how you’ll top my last favorite of yours. The Rebel King and it’s earlier copart The KingMaker are THE duet of 2019 and you’ve done it again!
