A Top 50 Amazon Bestseller.“Powerful, gripping, unflinchingly honest and sensuously gorgeous writing.” — Kristan Higgins, New York Times Bestselling AuthorRITA® Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King’s Men Duet.Ambition. Revenge. Love.Raised to resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.Though surrender is what … resist. Bred to fight. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.
Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we’re the pawns and players.
Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

What an amazing ending to this duet! I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
After that cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I needed to know what happened next. The author quickly picked up where we’d last left off, and kept us on an emotional, exciting, whirlwind of a ride. I loved Lennix and Maxim; these two characters stole my heart, and made me so invested in their story.
First, let me just say once again that Maxim was a snack, and I loved everything about him. He was a true alpha male, and while that wouldn’t be my type in real life, I was here for it in these books. The passion, drive, intensity, etc. that he possessed was everything. I also loved how despite both him and Lennix being strong willed, they complemented each other. They made their relationship work. I liked the secondary characters we saw, but for how long this book was (close to 400 pages), I expected more of them. While he definitely wasn’t my favorite character, I enjoyed seeing the relationships with Maxim’s dad play out with both Lennix, and his son.
There was one part that really broke me, and I cried quite a bit while reading this book. I won’t say what happened, but be prepared for lots of feels. That was the only thing that surprised me. I expected what happened after that, and would have been shocked if it didn’t happen. Overall, this was an amazing duet. Kennedy Ryan’s writing has blown me away yet again. She can write scenes with such emotion, and also some of her lines are poetry. I highly recommend you check her out!
PHENOMENAL!!!! The best duet of 2019! I was not so patiently waiting for the conclusion to Maxim and Lennix’s story. Kennedy Ryan did not disappoint! She is an amazing author with such a wonderful gift in writing. Her messages are powerful and impactful. I enjoyed learning about the Indigenous tribes as much as the love story. It was definitely great world building, heartbreaking, and an eye-opening story. I loved every minute of reading it!
The Rebel King swallowed me whole from page one and didn’t spit me out until the end. The plot was originial, intense, all-consuming, twisted, full of angst, action, passion, and love. My emotions are all over the place after reading this duet! I cried. I melted. My heart broke, and my panties melted. Maxim and Lennix had that once in a lifetime love. It was so pure and beautiful. It wasn’t perfect, and neither were they, but they were perfect together. Reading their story, feeling their love, their hurts, and their triumphs were EVERYTHING! The side characters were wonderful as well. They added so much depth to the story. I can’t express how phenomenal this duet was. It is a MUST-READ! I am going to say that I think this may just be Kennedy Ryan’s best book yet! Congratulations Kennedy and THANK YOU for taking me on this wonderful, beautiful journey. My heart is so full after reading it. I hated for it to end. Run, don’t walk and grab this duet! You won’t be sorry!
****ARC generously provided in exchange for an honest review.***
When I say that Kennedy Ryan is infamous for ripping apart my soul and piecing it back together one achingly slow piece at a time, I am not being dramatic.
The Rebel King is nothing that I thought it would. An epic conclusion to this duet is likely the biggest understatement of the year.
We pick up right at the end of The Kingmaker (yes, I have been holding my breath since that moment) and this book delivers round after round of suspense. Worry not, the book delivers a solid conclusion.
Let’s move on to the main characters and the story.
One of the things I love best about Maxim is his passion mixed with heavy sarcasm. I loved every single word that he uttered, thought, or growled in this book. I can honestly say that the trajectory of his life was one I would have never expected to happen. It just goes to show you that Kennedy Ryan holds the ability to avoid the obvious and give you something better than you anticipated.
Lennix is still the powerful fighter we saw in The Kingmaker. Everything she does is with conviction. Love. Hate. Fight. Her soul is etched in every interaction and when she speaks with authority, you feel it in your bones. My heart ached for her so much during the first book of the duet, and she never ceased to amaze me in The Rebel King.
But more than the main characters, Kennedy Ryan delivers some of the most relevant and moving secondary characters in this story. Add in a plot twist that had tears rolling down my cheeks and you have one of my new favorite duets ever written.
Time and again, Kennedy Ryan has delivered poetry in her writing and the ability to rock me to my core. I have never picked up a single book from her that I haven’t loved or would rate less than a million stars for her brilliance.
Bravo to Ms. Ryan for bringing such a touching story and beautiful light into such a rich and diverse culture with the respect it deserves.
And as always from my reviews, my top quotes of the book:
“You’re a fighter. You don’t surrender. Remember?. … You can still fight with fear in your heart.”
“Her love is a potion that makes me crazed.”
“’I love you,’ I whisper into her hair. I feel so reverent when I say it. We exchanged those words like sacred prayers. With our bodies, through our confession, we made our own religion. She is the temple and I am the priest, worshipping.”
“The girl who chases stars finds them every time we make love.”
“For tonight at least, there’s nothing to do, nothing to conquer or pursue. All the power in the universe convenes here, throbbing and humming between our bodies. And it’s more than enough.”
Wow my mind is officially blown! Absolute brilliance! An intense, gripping suspenseful conclusion to a well written intriguing duet that had my heart pounding with what may happen! This book starts where The Kingmaker finishes and lets just say be prepared for a tumultuous bumpy ride!Goodness me…its taken me a while to think how this book made me feel. My emotions were all over the place! I don’t want to give anything away but The Rebel King is a powerful riveting read with so many elements, so much to hook you that you won’t know what to do with yourself once you finish reading! Definitely the best book of this duet and im excited to see what the author writes next!A duet not for the faint of heart but for the person who loves so much suspense, sizzling chemistry and intrigue you just wont want to put the book down! Highly recommend!
Absolutely adored this book! This duet!! The characters, the world building Kennedy Ryan words just take you by storm and you just do nothing but enjoy the ride! I wish I could give this book a trillion stars!!
Oh.My.Gawd!
This had some turns I did NOT see coming. So many FEELS! Some things I had figured out and knew what to expect. Others, not so much. It wrecked my heart. This is one duet that will stay with me for a long time. I want more Lennix and Maxim.
OMG! Riveting is understating it! So much going on! Maxim and Lennix do not live simple lives. They are both overachievers and as such, their lives are full of complications and danger.
Death comes knocking and someone near and dear dies. The danger continues and more loved ones are in peril. There is no way that our character will show fear. They are scared but know showing is not the answer.
This series has been an epic story of love and dedication. If you read nothing else this year, make this series your number one priority!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
The Rebel King is the conclusion to the All the King’s Men duet by the talented Kennedy Ryan. The Kingmaker was fantastic and I’ve been waiting to see what was going to happen to Lennix and Maxim. I was not disappointed! The suspense, pain, love, lust, struggle, and heartbreak just about killed me. I was sucked in from the very first word and couldn’t read fast enough. I needed to know what was going to happen next. It was like gasping for air. My heart almost couldn’t take it! Maxim will do everything for his Nix. She’s is soul mate. He doesn’t always handle things the right way, but the need to protect her is the strongest thing he’s ever felt. He would fight any man for her. He would die for her. Lennix is independent. She doesn’t like being told what to do and where to go. But being with Maxim brings changes she’s not sure she’s ready for. She didn’t work this hard to just give up her dreams. They have an uphill battle and sometimes can’t see the end of the road, but they want to travel it together. Is their love strong enough for everything that will be thrown at them? Can they learn to compromise for love? This story. My heart! I had to stop reading at one point because I couldn’t see through my tears. Kennedy’s books always squeeze my heart, but this was something special. Her writing just keeps getting better and better. She’s in a league all her own.
Kennedy Ryan is so thoughtful with her words. I find myself reading her books and feeling one way one minute and another way the next. She opens your eyes and makes you really think about situations and seeing them from different views.
I love Ryan’s books, because she writes strong female leads. I find that her female characters are ones you want to emulate in real life. They are fierce and Lennix is no exception! I love her, but at times found her to be selfish. It seemed like Maxim was constantly the one who sacrificed. Don’t get me wrong though, I still loved Lennix and everything she stood for! What I loved more is how Maxim treasured Lennix. It bled through the pages. Every decision he made, he made with Lennix in mind. It was so beautiful!
I don’t know what else to write, because I don’t want to give anything away. So I leave you with this, READ THIS DUET!!! It truly is a must-read!
ahh the duet is complete!!!! Go get your binge on because it is fantastic!
This conclusion to All The Kings Men duet was such a great story it had it all. Lennix and Maxim both had full lives and goals the wanted to fulfill. Lennix didn’t want to be absorbed by Maxim’s strong personality and loose her identity. She was such a strong and intelligent woman who was proud for her heritage. This was a complex story with all the feels.
The Rebel King is part two of the All The King’s Men Duet and can not be read as a stand-alone. You mush read The Kingmaker first.
Wow! This was the perfect conclusion to The Kingmaker. Once again, Kennedy Ryan proves why she is a favorite among readers. The Rebel King kept me on the edge of my seat with enough twists and turns to make me dizzy, but I loved every minute of the ride. I devoured this book through laughter and tears and finished it with a full heart and a smile on my face. Absolute perfection!
Kennedy Ryan definitely has a way with words and she always draws you in with her completely engaging stories. I love that she brings topics that need to be talked about to the forefront of every one of her stories.
Just a note, this cannot be read as a standalone, it’s book 2 in the All King’s Men duet.
This one picks up right where book 1 ended and it was the cliffhanger of cliffhangers. And you jet set on this bit of suspense right from the beginning. It had my heart racing and honestly, I didn’t expect a bit of this suspense at all. I guess you can say that you can see it coming, but I did wish I had more of it during this read.
As far as reads dealing with politics, they generally don’t rank as my favorite. I know I’ll definitely be in the minority with this one because as far as KR reads, this one wasn’t my favorite.
It had nothing to do with the writing because it was phenomenal. I had a bit of a disconnect with the heroine, Lennix, and their relationship.
I admire Lennix completely, I loved all the in-depth research that Kennedy did about not only her culture and people, but the rights they’re constantly fighting for. She was such a dominant character and her independence was everything to her. At times it felt like it clashed with her relationship with Maxim. There were a few times where I questioned if we’d get a happy ever after,
I truly loved Maxim, there was nothing but Lennix when it came to him. He’d go to the ends of the worth to keep her happy and safe. I felt how strongly his love was for her and he showed her time after time.
With the social issues mentioned, I think there were times when the balance was a bit off with the romance. One seemed to overpower the other.
With all the obstacles that Lennix and Maxim face, it’s a powerful story of love. Trust me, I still enjoyed reading this one and I’m still a forever fan of Kennedy.

Well done #KennedyRyan
The Rebel King was absolutely magnificent. It was suspenseful, thought-provoking, emotional, romantic, sexy, and full of passion. Words so deep and meaningful that they touch your soul and ping at your emotional fortitude.
The author took me on an epic journey with Lennix and Maxim. I loved that each character was strong and independent and fiercely battled for their convictions. I was able to grow with them as individuals and as a couple. To watch and feel that soul encompassing love take flight and soar was emotional to say the least. Besides being a romance, this story knocked on the door of current events and barged through with relevance and intelligence. It made you think and ponder about our world and how we as individuals can do better.
Kennedy Ryan is a phenomenal writer. Her storytelling reaches the stars with its poetic cadence. I can’t help but fall into a trance whenever I read her stories. They truly touch your fiber and you can’t help but relish in the wonderful feelings once you finish. I highly recommend this duet. A Best of 2019 without a doubt.
Whatever the highest rating I can give a book is, this book needs to quadruple that. Good Lord KENNEDY RYAN you have taken my all with this book, my emotions, my words, my heart you just tooketh!!!!
The Rebel King was highly anticipated and delivered every single feel you can imagine. What an amazing end to a dynamic duet. I didn’t want Maxim and Lennix’s story to end. These two powerful characters complimented each other from day one of their meeting and throughout the duet. Their drive, their dreams, their passion and love for each other was so beautifully played out I couldn’t get enough. Their journey although a hard one at times had them never changing who they were or swaying from their beliefs but forced them to take each opportunity that came their way and make it their own. I have to give kudos to Miss Ryan for perfecting to the best of her ability the historical and statistical parts of this book. With Lennix being Native American I loved reading of her culture and the traditions.
With every book she releases, Miss Ryan gifts us memorable stories and characters that resonates with you. This duet was so poetically written. If you’ve read any of her books and not have it make you question life and all that it entails then you are reading it incorrectly. Although based in a fictional world, her works are so very thought provoking, raw and honest. I tip my virtual hat to the super talented Kennedy Ryan for once again giving the world another MASTERPIECE!!!!
Kennedy Ryan delivers another heart stopping story to conclude her newest duet. The Rebel King continues the story of Lennix and Maxim where we left after book one. Through a series of unforeseen tragic events we are afforded the opportunity to watch their love blossom and evolve. In Ryan’s signature style of concise storytelling she holds nothing back in the honesty, vulnerability, and growth of her charismatic, enchanting characters.
One of the aspects I love most about Kennedy Ryan stories and especially this particular duet, is the importance of the issues she highlights with her characters. She sheds an unbiased political light on her writing that really makes you think about your own perspective on those matters. Her ability to take an issue and transform it into a story without being preachy or judgemental will never cease to amaze me.
As readers we’re thrust into the lives of characters that we want to engage with, respond and relate to, and empathize with. These two main characters in The Rebel King make those aforementioned things so easy to do thanks to the brilliance and illuminating writing of this author.
I highly recommend this duet. It’s a great binge that gives you an emotionally charged story with depth, grit, and so much love.
I’m blown away by the beauty of this story, the words, and the characters. Maxim and Lennix have a love that is unsurmountable, and cannot be forsaken. Maxim does everything in his power to show her his true love for her. They have a mountain of obstacles they have to face, but they do it… Together.
There are a few suspenseful, gasp-filled moments that made me lose my mind; however, this book was so well-written that you just had to keep going. I voluntarily reviewed this book from the author. I’d do it over and over again. If you ever find that one author that writes so flawlessly that you’ll read ANYTHING they write, then when you have the ability to read a book, you don’t think twice. You just do it, and this author is that one for me. This book is perfect and it shows the ending to the duet that it needed to tell.
I swear this book tugged at my heart in some many ways. It picked up right where it left off in book 1 and it was intense. The first couple chapters we see Lennix a little defeated and Maxim pulling all his resources. You also see Owen having his brother’s back regardless and I swooned at these two. Maxim grows more alpha and Lennix more determined. The chemistry between these two is mind blowing!!!! Then there’s a moment that turns left and oh my heart. I’ve never cried so much but then you see a new Maxim with his Nix by his side ready to overcome anything. She was a baddie and I loved it!!! And the love these two shared the fierceness will melt any underwear, lol. There was one moment I thought his dad was going to screw everything up but Maxim proved that Lennix is his one. The way these two support each other in all there professional aspiration is admirable and you cheer for them. We even see Lennix soft side which is hard since she’s so tough. And that ending?!?! OMG!!!!!!!! Loved it!!!!! I think there’s still more for this dynamic duo. These two by far are my favorite couple I’ve read this year.
