A Top 50 Amazon Bestseller.“Powerful, gripping, unflinchingly honest and sensuously gorgeous writing.” — Kristan Higgins, New York Times Bestselling AuthorRITA® Award-winning author Kennedy Ryan delivers the gripping conclusion to the All the King’s Men Duet.Ambition. Survival is in my blood and surrender is never an option.
Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of my body and heart, I had other plans. We were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, but the man I trusted with everything was a trickster. A thief who stole my love. If what we had was a lie, why did it feel so real? The man I swore to hate will have it all, and wants me at his side. But power is a game, and we’re the pawns and players.
Facing insurmountable odds, will we win the world, or will we lose it all?

Y’all. This book.
I can’t.
It’s sooooooooooo everything! Everything that reminds me of all the amazing reasons I love to read and just get absorbed into a story. Seriously. The All The King’s Men duet is absolutely one of the most incredible stories I’ve read in a long time. This duet will for sure go down as the top picks of 2019. Hands down.
Lennix and Max… you guys…. If you thought Kennedy Ryan tortured these poor characters and put them through hell in The Kingmaker, just wait until you see what she has in store for them in The Rebel King. It’s not pretty. It’s going to gut you. But it’s going to be so worth it on the other side!
Lennix and Max are still haunting me. I can not get over the depth she put into these characters. They make me want to be a better person and seriously makes me question what I’m doing with my life. So just be prepared for these characters to reach down inside you and stay.
Grab it. I promise you that this story is for everyone. It is going to touch everyone.
This book. This book was exactly what I needed. I know it’s a duet, hence the cliffhanger in the first one, but I NEEDED this book to complete everything.
“We weren’t unlikely, Nix. We were inevitable.”
I felt this down to my soul. Maxim & Lennix were inevitable.
I felt all their hurt and their love and their struggles. That’s what Kennedy does with her writing. She makes us feel everything. And that, to me, is the mark of a great writer.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!
The heroine is badass and the hero is delicious. I highly recommend!
This duet is absolute PERFECTION. A beautiful masterpiece. Kennedy Ryan writes a profound story of ambition, power, revenge and love. All The King’s Men Duet is a riveting story that depicts just how talented this author truly is and I won’t soon stop raving about how absolutely brilliant this duet is!
4.5 stars!
What a conclusion! I didn’t expect things to go down the way they did.
This would have been a 5 star read for me except for one part that gutted me. Didn’t see that coming. The ramifications for that could have been done differently, but I understand it.
The books picks up after the ending of The Kingmaker. After that ending, I couldn’t wait for this! Maxim and Lennix are stronger than ever dealing with all that’s going on around them.
We know Maxim’s father isn’t the most pleasant and has a strained relationship with him and Lennix. Does he redeem himself? You have to read to find out. 🙂
I will say this: I can’t wait for Kimba’s book 🙂 This is a must read series!!
Welp. The Queen has done it again. There are no words. It’s impossible to articulate feelings when a story makes you feel every emotion under the sun. And not just feel them, but experience them, and days after you finish those same emotions and feelings are still simmering under your skin. No one does a romance like Kennedy. No one tells a story like Kennedy. No one shakes me to my very core like Kennedy. This book..lawd have mercy. The conclusion of this epic discovery of self and love is maddeningly, outrageously, gorgeously scripted…..it will melt hearts and set souls on fire for many moons to come. I will forever cherish the crash of emotions this one created in me. This will be one of those rare books added to my “I wish I could read it for the first time again over and over again”….
Top top top of all time top top top favorite reads. This one belongs on a shelf ALL BY ITSELF.

Author Kennedy Ryan created a kaleidoscope of words that twist, turn and blend into a beautifully colorful picture, a mental and spiritual journey with an ethereal destination.
The Rebel King is a top book of 2019, actually of all time. She transcends barriers and mends divides.
Kennedy Ryan is a literary genius!!
The poetic and inspirational way she has with words mesmerizes me every book; this duet is no exception!! I don’t usually read cliffhangers because….well, I’m too impatient. But, for her words I was willing to risk it, and boy amI glad I did! Max is a mega Alpha protective hero, but he also has a “woke” and soft side that is a perfect balance in a male character. Lennix is independent, headstrong, and inspirational all on her own. This story is such a wonderfully written tale with romance, suspense, and history all rolled into one. If you want a page turner that will stay with you for weeks afterwards, then this is most definitely a must read for you!
“She’s winter sunshine.”
I can firmly say that anything Kennedy Ryan writes, I get goosebumps all over and hope that the story never ends. She has this imaginative way of captivating you so easily and drawing you right into the story. The worlds that she builds are epic and gorgeous, and mesmerizing. Her ability to tell a story that squeezes your heart and has you holding your breath nothing that eventually the story will end.
And that’s exactly how I felt reading about Lennix and Maxim. These two couldn’t be more different. And after the deceit in book one, I wasn’t sure where the story was going to go for these two. But why I was worried… I have no idea. Kennedy always pulls through with a gorgeous read. Even if, I can’t breath half the book and find myself wiping tears off my cheeks. The story was simply mesmerizing.
One of my absolute favorite thing that Kennedy does is use problems in today’s society and writing about them in such a way, you open your eyes. Issues we face in our country, problems that shouldn’t be problems, she writes about them so flawlessly, so fearless.
What a gorgeous duet All The Kings Men was. I’m sad to see this duet come to an end because it was so powerful, gorgeous, moving, and swoon worthy. These are definitely duets that I will be re-reading again. I just love her words y’all. I highly recommend this duet and anything else she puts her hands on.
“You don’t stop running because it’s hard. You don’t stop running because it hurts. Don’t you dare stop running because someone says you’ll never finish the race, or even that it’s not your race to run. ‘Prove them all wrong. Blaze your own trails. Girl, woman, they’ll never give you the world. You have to make your own.”
The Rebel King is the ending of this duet set. It is also a story I never expected!!! The twists, the turns and everything in between. THIS IS THE BEST DUET I HAVE READ FOR 2019!!!
Not only is there more love there is also betrayal, career – family choices, revenge, family drama. Lennix and Maxim are two characters that I have fallen in love with. I was happy for them, shouted for joy with them, and even cried and became angry with and for them.
Kennedy this was such a joy to read. I learned about tribes. history, places I now want to visit, politics and true love and devotion. You are a wonderful writer. I do not usually get actual books since I am an ebook reader but I honestly will be purchasing these to add to my shelf.
The Rebel King, Book #2 of the duet, was a read that consumed me. I can’t remember the last time I ugly-cried so much during a book. If I had to guess, I’d say probably not since I read The Driven Series by K. Bromberg. I LOVE an epic romance and this duet certainly hits that nail on the head. This second part of Maxim and Lennix’s story had me all twisted up with emotion. I was head-over-heels in LOVE with Maxim and riding the roller-coaster with my feelings for Lennix. In between, I was on-the-edge-of-my-seat, holding my breath, and turning page after page trying to figure out what could possibly happen next to these two?!? I was expecting more evil and tragedy by book’s end, but was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns that occurred. While I loved how intelligent and strong Lennix was, I found myself annoyed at times with her tougher-than-nails attitude. I think I wanted her to acquiesce a bit faster when it came to Maxim and his feelings and needs. I totally got where she was coming from though. As always, Kennedy Ryan’s writing is impeccable and captivating. The characters and their emotions just jump off the page and strangle your heart. This particular love story woven into issues so relevant to today’s world was really, really interesting and enlightening. Another MUST-READ from this incredibly talented author–don’t miss it!
Such an awesome ending!!! Had a little bit of everything!! Angsty, emotional, and full of devotion!! Hotness overload!! What an incredible journey!!
I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.
Whew! This duet has taken us on a JOURNEY. A journey that I would gladly take again for the first time. Seriously y’all…Kennedy has outdone herself with these books.
I’m not even sure what to start with Lennix and Maxim. I freaking loved them so much! Their story is an epic one. So much happens in this book and once I started reading, I could not stop. I dropped everything that I was doing that day, set up shop on my couch, and read the whole darn thing.
Just like the first book, Kennedy gives us more than just a love story. The plot is complicated and full of twists and turns that made me yell out loud and then message a fellow reader to be like “OH MY GOD ARE YOU READING THE REBEL KING?” But I also laughed and I even cried a few times.
By the end I was a mess or emotions and all I wanted to do was go back in time to read it again for the first time.
The girl who chases stars and the Kingsmen
I have just finished this duet which by the way i totally binge read because who could really stop at the end of book one .. not me
This book intensified lennix and maxims relationship … they have SO MANY challenges in front of them some of those just from them being who they are . But in the middle is their undeniable connection and fate bringing them together .
This book has all the emotions . Fear grief love joy loss angst hope and a sense of victory .
I really enjoyed both maxim and Lennix’s passion for the things they believed in and how together they created and reached for the impossibly inevitable .
My only qualm is that I want more !!!! Their story has so much more to give ! I saw at the end that the next book will be the queen move for kimbas story which I really hope carries on some of maxim and nix’s story too … oh and I really hope we get to see grim’s story too 😉
Awesome ome book awesome duet !!!! Loved it !
This book starts right where The Kingmaker ends. The Kingmaker was intense so I thought we’d get a resolution to the issues from the last book and get to some romance. No. Not Kennedy Ryan. Instead of following the comfy cliche approach, that I was expecting, she expertly continues to address important social issues AND adds some suspense.
The Rebel King is exciting, intense, thought provoking, and one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Maxim and Lennix are strong and complex characters that share a beautiful love story. Each of them experiences so much growth over the course of this book. I loved the way that their perceptions of each other and certain other characters transform by the end. I can’t say enough positive things about this book. I highly recommended it.
A powerful idea that resonates from the pages of The Rebel King is that ordinary is outdated…that different, in any and all capacities: people, environments, and ideas is absolutely essential to provide a comprehensive look at what it means to be human as well as what makes up the human spirit in all its colors, behaviors, and circumstances.
Lennix’s voice…her words and her deeds illustrate a woman who wants to bring about change…who wants to be a mouthpiece for the forgotten…for the disregarded…for the downtrodden. She is an absolute warrior – she exudes power and grace, and she refuses to be silenced. And it’s that independent spirit that sees her through when the world seems to push back…when those who disagree with her work to pigeon-hole her progress…attempt to put her in what they see as her place in society.
Maxim is a powerful man in his own right…alpha to his core, but it’s his protective nature and his strength as Nix’s partner that makes him stand out as an ultimate book boyfriend. Don’t get me wrong…he definitely has his faults and he’s made his fair share of mistakes when it comes to Nix as well as other aspects of his life, but the fact that he’s flawed only endears him more to readers because it makes him authentic, but most of all, it makes him human.
I don’t know if I’ve ever read a story where the hero and heroine were as connected as Nix and Doc are on every level. When 17 year old Nix met 24 year old Maxim, I’m sure they never imagined who and what they would become, both individually and as a couple. But it’s a testament to their bond that despite the time they spent apart…despite their differing paths…despite everything that came up against them, whether it be a person or a complication, they were never far from one another’s thoughts…their hearts…but more importantly…their souls.
‘You don’t stop running because it’s hard. You don’t stop running because it hurts. Don’t you dare stop running because someone says you’ll never finish the race, or even that it’s not your race to run.
Prove them all wrong.
Blaze your own trail.
Girl, woman, they’ll never give you the world. You have to make your own.’
While this message is poignant all on its own, its poignancy lies more so in the writer who crafted these words and the heroine created who learns these life lessons as her and the hero’s story is told. Kennedy Ryan has more than forged her own path based on her vision of what the romance genre should include as well as the type of main characters whose stories should be told. And, without a doubt, it takes courage and determination to change the dynamics of a community that has existed as long as books about love and relationships has…but it’s the fact that Ryan has a pulse on societal issues and norms and works earnestly to shed light on both the shortcomings and victories of mankind that keeps readers invested long after they reach the end of any one of Kennedy Ryan’s stories, and it’s that fact that makes her every bit the warrior that Lennix is.
5 Poison Apples
I don’t know if what I want to say about this story will come across to you properly, but I’m going to give it a try without going on and on and on.
This is way more than just a story. This is an experience. An experience into the world of two people that did not have a smooth path. Two vulnerable, tragic, captivating and forceful people. Their story/journey was a passionate saga that kept me on edge from the moment I started reading. Not just this part of their story.
ALL OF IT.
My God, what an honor it has been to read this story.
Thank you, Kennedy Ryan.
Power. Strength. Love. A love that endured all and a love which transcends time is what we witness in the conclusion of Lennix and Maxim’s story in The Rebel King.
This was an incredible story of love, loss, and power. Power willed by those in charge of great nations, as well as the unimpeachable power that can bond two souls to one another for a lifetime.
My words cannot begin to do justice to describe the force of nature behind the woman who wrote what may be the most fierce and enlightening fictional story I’ve read to date.
Ryan has quickly become one of my favorite authors of all time. With All The King’s Men Duet, I believe she has now written the most phenomenal love story of our time.
As Always, Happy Reading!
“5/5 Beaming Brains!” – Lit-Up Mind
This was a breathtaking, soul-stealing read! Absolutely captivated by this conclusion to one of the best duets I’ve ever read!
“She’s an extension of me, and I’m an extension of her. She’s a layer of my skin, a chamber of my heart. She’s the tattoo on my chest. Endurance.”
Maxim and Lennix were electrifying together. So much passion and fire between them. Independently, they were such incredibly strong people but together, they were a force to be reckoned with.
So much happens in this second book – things I never, ever saw coming. It was an emotional, thrilling and suspenseful rollercoaster read. I can barely articulate all my feelings for this duet.
Seriously, the best thing I can say is that if you read nothing else this year, read these books!
We finally have the ending to this epic duo! I have been waiting for The Rebel King, I had to know how it was going to end. My emotions were all over the place on this epic journey.
Maxim and Lennix’s story kept me on the edge of my seat. There were some twists I didn’t see coming. Lennix is a strong woman and is having a hard time deciding what she wants and her dreams. Maxim goes after what he wants no matter what. These characters were perfect together and I loved their story.
This book really pulled at my heart strings and I loved every minute of it. This is a must read duet!
