Nix and Max are one of my favorite all time couples! Kennedy Ryan has woven an epic story that is important and relevant. It is timely and pertinent and one that we all must appreciate and understand. I highly recommend this duet! A Must Read!
This book is so goooood! It is everything . It has drama to spare, heat to sizzle, angst to excite and page turning delighfullness .
Maxim and Lennix’s ups and downs are real time relationship problems, and witnessing them navigate them is a class in writing 101.
All the situations they and the supporting cast find themselves in were nail biting fun. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I suspect you will as well.

Do not miss this epic romance!! Love it.
“The past is behind us. The future is ours. Figure out how you can change the world right now, and don’t fear it. Do it.”
You know when you start a book of Kennedy’s you are going to go on a journey, there will be bumps in the road, sometimes hills or mountains you have to scale to come out of the other side, not always in one piece. But somehow you know when you get to the end you will be whole again….almost.
But somehow it will leave a imprint on your heart.
This series was a journey for the mind and soul.
You could feel the passion lying beneath every single word, Kennedy it just awe inspiring.
The second book in the The KingMaker Series was everything we wanted and so much more. The research which must have gone into making this book, to ensure facts were….facts, speaks for itself.
This is a book of self discovery as much as self preservation, for more than one character.
Lennix is like an amazon warrior, set out to ensure the history of her Native American people does not get decimated.
Maxim the King of his own destiny, wants nothing more than to ensure Lennix gets where she needs to be…..however this was always going to be a struggle of the heart and minds of two very strong and stubborn people.
This truly was an amazing read and a journey that had many twists, some shocking and heartbreaking.
But this couldn’t have been the story it was without them.
Kennedy at her best
GENDER-BENDING DUET REALLY PUTS YOU THROUGH YOUR PACES—CAN YOU HANDLE IT?
This is a review for both books 1 and 2, since they are two halves of the same story. (No spoilers.)
This is a really intense gender-bending duet, mixing romance, thriller, science, social science, history, and politics. After reading the sample for book one it went in a direction I wasn’t anticipating. I’m not gonna lie, it was a really hard read for me. If you’re an emotional reader like I am, this one will wreck you. And it wasn’t because Ms. Ryan isn’t an exceptional writer, because she is. And it wasn’t because I was triggered by anything, because I wasn’t. There were just so many heavy issues and such relentless intensity; so much angst and melodrama that it was too much for me all in one story. I was on overload.
Many people liked this duet and I’m not saying you shouldn’t or even that I didn’t. I liked the story once I was done with it, but getting to the end was a rough road. If anything I’m disappointed in myself. I failed the test. I don’t quit a book easily, so I persevered, but it was draining. Maxim and Lennix took an epic journey and loved on a higher plane, and I needed to finish this journey with them. These books had moments of greatness and tbh some moments of boredom and times when I hated both MCs. But to be fair, the story was expertly crafted, juggling so many balls in the air at the same time. The characters all had amazing substance and dramatically matured over the course of 15 years. (Great big kudos for the many inspiring orations these two MCs made. They gave me chills.)
Ms. Ryan fearlessly put her beliefs out there and she knows this won’t be for everyone. I like her ideas but that was a whole lot to handle in just one story. That’s only me though. You should try it if it appeals to you, just know what you’re getting yourself into first. This is intense.
Three stars for the emotional whiplash.
Five stars for quality of research and writing style.
I do not think I have read a story this good in a long time. It was real, emotional and gripping. They went through a lot and survived…no, they thrived in the face of adversity but not without struggle or pain. I loved that real issues were covered and real relationships exposed. Family is complicated in the best of time and in the worse, sometimes it take a tragedy to effect change within oneself. Natives, minorities, women and climate change are all discussed and a part of the plot in this story.
I could not put it down.
I am also please that there was an epilogue to close up some of the story ends. There are a couple spinoffs that I can only imagine being as amazing as this one. However, I think I would like to bask in the love and commitment of Maxim and Nix for a bit longer. Great job!
Holy hell!! Soooo many thoughts running through my head. My emotions are beyond exhausted. I thought The Rebel King sent my emotions on a wild rollercoaster ride…NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. You will swoon, cry, get angry, want to punch something (maybe even someone ) on a steady repeat with this book, sometimes all within a few minutes. Lennix & Maxim’s love story is intense and full of highs, lows, tears, fear, pain, healing, heartbreak, sizzling chemistry, love, hot sex, angst, passionate, and demons from their past that they have to overcome. It is NOT an easy road for either of them as various speed bumps are thrown into their path numerous times. However, both continually fight for each other not willing to walk away or give up on the other. Jason Clarke & Jo Raylan do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality.
I’m addicted to Kennedy’s writing and her stories. I loved this series (including Queen Move). Kennedy’s stories always go way beyond romance to examine deeper issues. In the case of the All the King’s Men, a large part of the story explores the issue of missing indigenous women, which is a huge problem both in the US and Canada.
3.5 Stars
Well done. I have enjoyed their story. I would have liked more of them actually together but maybe there will be some glimpses of them in the next book.
I’m sad that I read Queen Move out of order because the big thing that happens was expected even though I didn’t know how (I know that’s cryptic but trying to be spoiler-free). Knowing it was coming lessened the emotional impact but I can just imagine it would have been devastating otherwise. This couple is dynamic and you want to read them, trust me.
The book, the second in the series, was just as wonderful as the first. I listened to the audible and Jason Clarke did a wonderful job.
Kudos to Kennedy. Wonderful characters and great writing.
The Rebel King picks up where, The Kingmaker, leaves off. Lennix is taken and kidnapped with her best friend Wallace on a service trip. This very scary event hooks you immediately as the kidnapper asks for a ransom and Maxime gets involved. It brings Maxime and Lennix’s father together at a time when the stakes are high. Lennix’s father is surprised Lennix and Maxime are dating. Brock Grimbsy starts to prepare a team to find Lennix and Wallace and once located, Maxime insists on coming along.
Without spoiling it, Kennedy Ryan keeps the danger high and safety a paramount concern for these two lovers. Maxime makes a huge decision that Lennix supports, but once the question of marriage comes, Lennix falters. Her strong, independent spirit conflicts with her desire to be with the man she loves.
In the end, I loved the history of the Apache people that Kennedy Ryan shares throughout the book. The animosity between Lennix and Maxime’s father, Warren Cade, is palpable. The families of Lennix and Maxime are so completely different and not accepting of the relationship between these incredibly strong individuals.
In many stories, the female character is pretty self-possessed and strong. But this has got to be the strongest female heroine I’ve ever read. Lennix Moon Hunter needed a man like Maxime Kingsman Cade who could love her in her strength and shelter her when she felt vulnerable. What’s amazing in this story is that at some point she does the same for Maxime. They are equally matched, and The Rebel King is a perfect exclamation point of a beautiful story told by a masterful storyteller.
I can’t wait to read the story of Lennix’s business partner, Kimba in Queen Move.
And I remember when I met him, it was so clear that he was the only one for me.

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
This is the emotional continuation of The Kingmaker. That’s all you need to know. Oh, and there’s a high chance that you’ll cry your eyes out.
This duet is my favorite duet that I’ve read this year. I was almost crying and actually crying for most of the book (and I’m a cold b….). Kennedy Ryan does it again. This is an emotional extravaganza, reaching depths in my heart that I didn’t even know I had available for a book! These characters’ journey is just an uphill battle. There were lots of developments in the final book of this duet. I won’t lie that I didn’t predict some of the events that occurred, but I’ll also add that I had the wrong timeline in my head (I’d actually expected this in book one), so it still came as a surprise when one of the twists occurred.
What can I say about Lennix? Words aren’t enough. Maxim… Ugh.
“‘What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?’ she asks after a few moments of silence.
‘You.’” – The Rebel King, Kennedy Ryan
These characters owned me. I read the duet back to back and honestly, I have grown so fond of it. The outcome was immensely satisfying (with the exception of the ONE thing that truly made me sad). Once again, the messages conveyed in this novel are beautiful. It’s not as heavy on that aspect as it was in book one. Here, we get more relationship development between Lennix and Maxim, but the spirit of it is always present.
I recommend this to lovers Scandal (the ABC tv series), readers looking for essence and depth in their contemporary romances, lovers of strong women who chase the stars and make the privileged white boys that always get what they want WORK FOR IT.
This is truly a intriguing read. It is unpredictable with so many emotional twists and turns. I actually cried foe Maxim and his family for what happened to Owen. It was so senseless for that man to take out his grief on this family when they had nothing to do with what caused his grief. The story has so many parts tha make me want to scream and hit some sense into someone but is brilliant with interesting characters. I would have like to see more of Maxim and Lennix when they are together openly and what happens in his running for president. The story is so long, yet it feels rushed at the end. Will there be a book about Lennix friend, will it say if Maxim became the president and give an update on their lives? That would be nice
Loved every second of this book and I was sad when it ended.
The story continues between Maxim and Lennix and the tough topics are still addressed in this book. Kennedy does a beautiful job of pulling real world issues and making them relate able, helps you understand them and even makes you (or did me) realize what I may have been doing wrong in my life. The connection between Maxim and Lennix is so real, so strong you can feel it from the pages. They go through a lot in book 2 and it’s just amazing as a reader to see them work through the tough issues in their relationship as adults and not back down from their beliefs. making you as a reader realize that yes, you can love someone and have different views on things, as long as you can agree to value each others opinions we can all get along so much better!
Outstanding!
I can’t get over what an amazingly beautiful duet this is! I loved how Maxim and Lennix’s story unfolded, how principled they were, how they never compromised their staunch beliefs to run willy-nilly into each other’s arms. Even though they were truly soul mates, they stood strong and followed their own dreams. I loved everything about this duet!
Maxim and Lennix story continues, their love is intense, my emotions a turmoil, the suspense and angst are perfect, what a phenomenal and exquisite read. Perfect balance in everything. A brilliant 5 star must read!
