Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.Death is what grim reaper Lucien Dupree knows best. Or rather, he did … Or rather, he did until his reaping powers became tragically unreliable. Now he’s living in a self-imposed exile to keep humanity safe. Sure, it’s a lonely existence, but it’s the best thing for everyone. Except him.
Retired genie, Imari Zephara, has found her happy place in Nocturne Falls. Well, as happy as she can be considering the alternative returning home would bring her. Then a dark force rears its ugly head and throws her life into turmoil. Suddenly the only way to save herself is to join forces with death, who turns out to be a pretty amazing guy.
But Lucien’s defective powers might not be enough to overcome centuries of jinn tradition, meaning Imari’s life would no longer be her own. All he wants is to give her the chance to choose her own future. Hopefully, one that includes him. What more could a guy a wish for?

I have loved this whole series, but this story really stood out as the best. It’s my favorite book I’ve read all year.
Lucien is a grim reaper, forced to retire after his powers went on the fritz and he accidentally reaped his grandmother’s soul just by touching her. He got her soul back but she has lived as a ghost ever since, a constant reminder of what he did and can not forgive himself for. As if that weren’t bad enough his ability to see color was taken away when he was assigned as a reaper who specifically reaped from battlegrounds (Supposedly it was to help the reapers deal with their job by not letting them see all the red spilled on the battleground) and the ability could not be given back.
When Lucian meets Imari he realizes he can touch her without killing her, and not only that – HE SEES COLOR!!!
Imari is a genie desperate to avoid the forced marriage awaiting her if she goes back into her bottle and now there is a man after her who will force her into the bottle. She goes to Lucien for protection and he goes above and beyond to keep her safe.
This story was brilliant. The mythology was so interesting and the romance was absolutely perfect. This is definitely up there in my all time favorites.
4.5 stars
Retired genie, Imari Zephara, has found a life for herself in Nocturne Falls. When someone tries to capture her the peace is shattered. She turns to the one person who could protect her, grim reaper Lucian Dupree.
This book had everything I love: a marriage of convenience, a lonely hero, and a great side character. Lucian Dupree is one of the mysterious residents of Nocturne Falls. Very few people know about him and he prefers it that way since he can’t really interact with them. His reaper ability is messed up and it’s too dangerous to be around people. When Imari bursts into his life he realizes how lonely he has been and how much he wishes his life could change. Lucian is one of my favorite heroes from this series. He is kind, a good father, and supportive of anything Imari wants/needs. I just loved him.
“My cars aren’t precious. Life is precious. Things can be replaced. Very little else matters.”
Imari is a retired genie who just wants to be able to live her life how she wants to. She doesn’t want to be beholden to anyone who asks for wishes or to be forced into marriage. Lucian gives her that with their marriage of convenience but he also shows her how happy she could be with him. I love the romance between these two. It was slow building and they learn to trust each other before love comes into play. I love relationships like this.
One of my favorite things about this book was Hattie, Lucians grandmother. She was a wonderful side character and I just could get enough of her. She was the grandmother everyone wishes they could have! I love when a great story has a great side character. It always makes it better.
This might be my favorite book of the series. I couldn’t get enough of these two and I really hope we see them pop up in future books.
A fun read.
Another cute paranormal romance story with a side of mystery by Ms. Painter. The Reaper Rescues the Genie is tender, guarding, loving, and humorous providing hours of entertainment. The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. Highly recommend this series for anyone needing laughs mixed with a bit of romance.
Made me wanting the next book
I love all of Nocturne Falls books. What a wonderful and entertaining place. The whole universe is quite entertaining and easy to read.
Love this author and her books are fantastic
ARC – I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
I am always waiting impatiently for a Nocturne Falls book.
I just love this series. LOL
Finally, Lucien gets his HEA.
Lucien is or was a reaper.
His reaper’s power have become unreliable, too dangerous.
Imari is just trying to live her life in peace.
She doesn’t like for people to know that she is a genie.
When danger comes for Imari, Lucien decided to help her.
He is not a 100% sure why, but he does.
As they get to know each other, they fall for each other.
But can this work ?
Lucien has been alone for so long, that he is wary of relationships.
But there is something about Imari that he just can’t resist.
The storytelling + the character’s build were awesome!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
