The Raven in Spring is the second book in the series and holy smokes! This book is even better than the first. It starts off right away and it is set at a great pace. There is a lot of characters and they are all so interesting. I am completely drawn to Raikar!! He is a very overwhelming type of character but in a good way. The passion between him and Maevan is so strong you can feel it. I love seeing how everything is coming together and seeing how each character grows. The writing is fantastic and you can feel and capture every emotion as it happens. This is a page turner through and through.
WOW… What can I say about The Raven In Spring by Bekah Clark, I am speechless! This is the 2nd of 4 books in the Rise Of The Hawk series, the first being The Hawk In Winter. I recommend you read the books in order or you may be a little lost. I have not read anything so exciting since The Lord Of The Rings. Bekah is a genius! She has created a world that is historical as well as futuristic. She has written 4 different stories in this book yet they intwine into one big story. Her characters are amazing, the good and the bad and the descriptions are so clear I can see them in my mind. I could not put this book down. The war between good and evil is on going. This book has deception, kindness, drunkenness, innocence, hate, love, telepaths, cruelty, revenge, creepy, loneliness, love at first sight and a bit of a twist at the end. I am so looking forward to reading the 3rd book in this series The Peacock In Summer and the final book The Vulture In Fall. I am truly going to be sad when I read the last page of the last book in this series. I recommend this book as it is incredible.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
A while back, I read The Hawk in Winter (Rise of the Hawk #1) and gave it 4.5 Stars (Rounded to 5 Stars). I enjoyed the start to the series. I added The Raven in Spring (Rise of the Hawk #2) to my TBR list. Read on for my thoughts!
Synopsis (from the author)
With the Rogue Queen vanquished, the rightful queen sits on the throne! Queen Xenya now must prove to the people that she is the queen they deserve. With all her daughters safe, Xenya can lead the people back to the path Kaelen laid out for the people of Aemonsha.
Maevan is thrilled that her mother is once again queen and in Traven, but doesn’t know what to do with her feelings for Jorgan and her mysterious rescuer turned bodyguard Raikar. Her formerly betrothed, Coran, has banished himself to the icy lands of Cardea to sulk. Although she is safe and well protected, Mae can’t shake the sense that someone wants her dead.
The Second House has always declared they are neutral in the fight between the First and Third Houses, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Antara, the current ruler of the Second House, cares only for power and retaining her lands no matter the cost. Her daughter Meirei is not as malleable an heir as Antara would like. Jorgan and Meirei have always banded together against their mother’s iron-fisted ways, as much as possible. Meirei is determined to rule the Second House her own way and is desperately tired of her mother’s abuse.

What I liked about The Raven in Spring:
I enjoyed the story and how it built on the first book. Plenty of romance, lots of intrigue, and threats to Xenya’s throne made the book flow well and entertained me. The characters, especially Xenya’s daughters, continue to grow and move into new (and sometimes surprising roles). Overall, a good fantasy read!
What I didn’t like about The Raven in Spring:
My only real complaint about the book was Maevan’s constant blushing. It was fine the first few times, but it seemed to be a too frequent event and was mentioned much too often.
Overall impression of The Raven in Spring:
Despite the blushing scenes, the book was a good story. As mentioned above, there is plenty of intrigue, romance, and action to keep you turning pages. If you like fantasy with a dash (or more) of romance, read this one!
My rating:
4 Stars
While The Hawk in Winter took a few chapters to get into, The Raven in Spring drew me right in. It was great to delve deeper into each character and see how they deal with conflicts. Without giving anything away, it was extremely interesting to see who ends up with each other. Ms. Clark gave us a chance to get to know the Second House who may not be as neutral as they claim. I’m excited to see what happens next! Another great story worth reading. 🙂
I love the second book even more than the first. It is very emotional. I felt sorry for Maevan being torn between feeling guilty for not loving Jorgan the way she used to and being confused by her new feelings for Raikar. The author did a great job describing those emotions. That also goes for poor Coran whose life spirals out of control. His depression and addiction make your heart hurt for him. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendship that developed between Korla, Renna and Zenkai. And I totally fell in love with Raikar. Such a strong hero and devoted warrior. The story is well paced and visits all the characters not just some. This way the reader stays engaged throughout the whole book. Personally, I could not put it down. Just like the first book this one has a satisfying end but at the same time hints at more trouble to come. Just because one villain is defeated does not mean there aren’t more waiting to cause trouble. And just because there is love at first sight and love a little one-sided does not mean there won’t be road blocks ahead for those involved. I love this series and highly recommend it.
