I’m hooked on Harry Starke novels and like that even though this goes back to an earlier part of his life, I loved it. There’s humor, mystery, rough and tumble action and a little romance but not enough to ruin the mystery aspect of this book. If you’ve not read Blair Howard books, you’re missing out on really fun reads.
The Raven: Harry Starke Genesis, Book 2, my fifteenth read from author Blair Howard and the second in the Harry Stark Genesis series. Well-written and enjoyable detective fiction I was given a Kindle copy of this book back in January and an Audible copy last October and am just now getting around to voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Narrator Tom Lennon narration adds to the enjoyment of the book. I look forward to the next book in this series The Assassin: Harry Starke Genesis, Book 3. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Harry Starke does it again. A judge’s wife is killed. Is it related to a Russian mobster that her husband, a judge, sentenced to death for a crime. A kidnapping and murder will keep you intrigued. This is a page turning thriller with a lot of action.
Another great mystery with so many clues it’s hard to put the pieces together – or at least it would be for the average person. But Harry seems to have a sixth sense that helps him make sense of things. A judge’s wife (who is also a school board member) is killed, there’s a Russian assassin who was put away by her husband, and then there’s the mysterious Mary Turner who has some unknown connection to the judge. We also find out how Harry first met and then hired Bob Ryan. This story will keep your attention from the beginning to the end. And we’re left with a mysterious twist.
Blair has done it again with The Raven (Harry Starke Genesis Book 2). Someone knocked off a wealthy woman, leaving behind a distraught husband. A friend of Harry’s father, the husband, who is a judge, turned to Harry and his new private investigation service to find the killer. Things become complicated with the addition of Russian mobsters into the story.
As with all of Blair’s novels, this one is fast-paced with plenty of twists to keep readers guessing who might have killed the judge’s wife. Realistic characters help Harry in his quest for the truth. Just when I thought I knew where the story was heading, different suspects crept forward, muddying the water. I don’t want to be a spoiler, so you’ll have to grab yourself a copy. You won’t be disappointed!
Seeing Harry meet Bob Ryan for the first time was interesting- and even worth reading about Harry getting the snot beat out of him more than once- the descriptions feel painful. The Russian and Italian mob boys don’t play with a light hand.
Interesting insights into the various characters- funny reading Tim described as a late teen – he’s such a tech geek god it’s easy to think of him as more a hardened pro. Nice to meet the cosplay and mmrp guy.
All in all, lots of surprising action and hidden secrets and stories.
Can’t wait for the next one!
Judge Jim McDowell is a good friend of Harry’s father, August. When Jim’s wife, Sandra, is murdered they want Harry on the case. Naturally, Harry takes the job and it’s not an easy one. There are also some old Russian Mafia men in town. The judge had put their boss away a long time ago. It seems too much of a coincidence that Sandra is murdered while they’re in town. This is a convoluted case where Harry has a lot of investigating to do. Will he find proof to back up his suspicions? Add in a new character and there’s yet another layer to the story. This murder mystery is full of action and thrills. The plot has some really good twists and great characters too. If you like mystery, crime and thrillers, you’ll love this book as much as I did!
A good look into the beginning of Harry Starke Private Investigator. Well written and full of action with an opportunity to see Harry’s crew in the early days. A page turner you won’t be able to put down.
