To compensate he’d thrown himself into ranching—losing himself in the grief.
Callie Winter, has landed her dream job moving to the east coast to work for a prestigious private school, but she’s fallen in love out west…with an adorable kindergartener. “The Rancher’s Unexpected Nanny” by Mary Sue Jackson, is a fun, engaging, western romance. A romance that is easily read in a single sitting, Callie, Finn, & Wendy’s story is engaging, and as a reader, just feels good. When the last page is read with a HEA, it brings out that aha moment that we celebrate in romance books. It is a story not to be missed for western romance lovers. **I was gifted a copy of “The Rancher’s Unexpected Nanny”. My review is voluntary and my own.** 4.25 Stars!
An excellent second chance at love romance! Finn Henry gave up his rodeo career when his father-in-law was injured. When his wife died three years later, he thought he had lost all of his dreams. He did not know how to relate to his young daughter and he threw himself into ranch work to contain his grief.
Callie Winter is a dedicated teacher and has bonded over the past year with Wendy, Finn’s daughter. She has accepted her dream job in the East, and as her last task in the west, she wants to help Wendy and Finn bond. Finn misunderstood the suggestion Callie made and thinks she is going to be his nanny for the summer. Although she should be finding a new place to live out East, she ends up living on the ranch with Finn and Wendy. Callie comes to love Wendy even more and to love Finn as she comes to know the man under the mask. Finn loves his daughter but does not know how to express it to Wendy. As Callie guides him back to being a loving father, he finds that he is becoming attached to a woman who is leaving at the end of the summer. Mary Sue Jackson has crafted an excellent and unexpected resolution for Callie and Finn.

A fun cowboy story full of great chemistry, passion and a few twists that I didn’t see coming. This was my first book for this author and I doubt it will be my last

The story features Finn and Callie. As I read through this live-in nanny story, I felt Callie’s feelings much deeper than Finn’s. He always seemed to be way too casual about their summer tryst. Finn struck me as someone who only wanted a woman so she could take care of his daughter. Even after Callie stopped being the nanny, he still looked at her as just the nanny. He was not much of a father to little Wendy. The rodeo was all he could think about. Callie was way too eager to be used by Finn. She is a woman who had no trouble speaking her mind but she lost it all when it came to Finn.
I like story lines with strong female characters and this one just didn’t work for me.
This was a really cute small town, rancher story. Finn is running his in-laws ranch after an accident left his father in-law paralyzed, he’s raising his daughter, Wendy, as a single parent after his wife’s death, and his one dream for himself is to get back to the Rodeo. When his daughter’s teacher, Callie, suggests putting Wendy in a school for more advanced children that is an hour away from home he doesn’t see it as a possibility until Callie suggests getting a baby to help him out.
This book is all about life dreams, missed opportunities, and how your dreams change as you grow up and change as a person.
Finding new authors is like finding hidden gems since you never know what your going to get. This was such gem. I saw Ms North’s name on this and was sold but Ms Jackson can stand on her own.
Finn’s life just seems to bounce from one disaster to another first he had to give up his rodeo career because his father was ill and his wife was pregnant. Then his wife died suddenly and he left to raise his daughter Wendy alone. Callie is finally going to be able to live her dream she has found a job working at a prestigious school out east. She should go there at the end of the school year but she ends up signing up to be the summer nanny for Wendy Henry even though she has clashed with Wendy’s father on numerous parent teacher interviews. Her aim over the summer break is to get this father and daughter connecting what she didn’t expect was to connect with them both in fact she has fallen in love with Finn. Will Finn bring himself out of his self imposed exile and will they get a HEA together You will have to read to see. This is another great story by this very talented writer yes there not rocket science but they are always great fun reads
Finn Henry is a former rodeo star, a rancher, and a widower raising his daughter, Wendy. Finn left the rodeo when life came knocking on his door with a pregnant wife, his father-in-law injured in an accident, and someone needing to take the helm at the family ranch. Callie Winter has landed her dream job of working for a prestigious private school on the east coast but finds that she has lost her heart to one of her kindergarten students, Wendy Henry. Callie tells Finn that Wendy is bored and suggests sending her to a private school an hour away. Callie also suggests Finn get a nanny to help him out. Finn misunderstands and offers Callie the job of nanny for the summer. Callie accepts the nanny position when her landlord rents out her apartment out from underneath her. Will Callie and Finn give into their attraction to each other knowing that Callie is leaving at the end of the summer? Is Finn ready to open his heart to a new love? What will happen when Callie must leave for her new job earlier than expected? Will Finn realize that the rodeo doesn’t mean as much to him as Wendy and Callie? Will Callie realize her dream job isn’t really her dream after all? I enjoyed The Rancher’s Unexpected Nanny by Mary Sue Jackson and Leslie North. Loved Finn’s mother-in-law, Sally, and how she did her best to push Callie and Finn together. The Rancher’s Unexpected Nanny will make you laugh out loud one minute and scream in frustration the next minute. Can’t wait to read more from these two authors. I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems, and I am leaving my honest review.
A highly entertaining, very emotional, action packed journey filled with exciting twists, witty banter, family drama, small town goodness and thrilling passion…. a great read from beginning to end that was so hard to put down. Really enjoyed reading this adventure.
Maybe unexpected, but meant to be
The Rancher’s Unexpected Nanny by Mary Sue Jackson is a sweet romance with lovely characters, especially the adorable Wendy! I really liked Callie, a teacher, and felt that this author did a nice job of creating this character authentically as a teacher. Callie is a true nurturer, just what really good teachers are.
Overall, a sweet romance that a little girl help bind the main characters together after soul-searching on the adult’s parts. The HEA leaves the final outcome to the imagination of the reader.
I read an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
Finn, Wendy and Callie have a long way to go before they can reach their HEA. Finn wants things one way, even if it isn’t the right way. Callie only wants what’s best. Things are slow to come like all good things. Sweet read

Excellent contemporary Western style romance. Finn lost his wife and finds himself in need of a nanny at least for the Summer. Finn has dreamed of going back on the rodeo circuit. Callie has been his daughter’s teacher and now she’ll be the nanny. The characters were realistic and enjoyable. The storyline was very good but in a few places it got sluggish. I received a complementary copy via Hidden Gems & chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Jackson.
This was a sweet story about 2 people each intent on pursuing their own dreams even at the expense of their happiness until they figure things out for the better. There are some deliciously steamy parts, but mostly it is a book about friendship, love, pride, learning to trust the heart, and realizing it is ok to let some dreams and plans go.

This is dramatic, amusing and interesting. Finn is a single dad rancher. Wendy is his daughter. Callie is Wendy’s teacher. When Callie suggests that Finn get a nanny, he hires her. She never gets a chance to say no, so she just goes home, to find that she wouldn’t have a home for long. She takes the nanny job so that she doesn’t have to live with her parents. His daughter, and his dead wife’s mother conspire to get them together. They do fall in love, but Callie’s dream, teaching in New York, and Finn’s dream of rejoining the rodeo, make a relationship hard. I’m not a fan of what they did next, Callie should have said no, but in the end everything works out like it should.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
