Samantha Jenson likes things ordered. She’s managed to carefully plot out her life, creating lists along the way to keep her on track: Leave small town. No more cowboys—especially him. Get educated. Don’t even think about him. Become a professor. So far, she’s put a check in every box but the last. When her family ranch in Texas goes to her after the death of her father and brother, she’s forced … she’s forced to return home to put things in order and to make sure the property doesn’t get into the hands of her shady cousin. Enter Cole Baker. Tough, hard, distant. Sexy. The kind of guy you’d want standing between you and an attacking bear. Or in your bed. He’s definitely not on Sammie’s to-do list. But when the two of them are thrown together to save the ranch, her list begins to look not quite so important.
No one had ever mistaken Cole for one of the good guys. In and out of trouble his whole life, his one brush with respectability came during the brief time he and Sammie dated in high school. Now, fresh out of the army, he finds himself suddenly navigating the world of single parenthood and is desperate to give his son stability. He needs a job and a place to stay, so when Sammie offers him the role of running the ranch, he swallows his pride and agrees.
All his life he’s let down everyone he loved, so he’ll try to focus on the job, and definitely not think about how beautiful Sammie is, how goddamn cute all her lists are or how good she is with his son. It’ll only end in heartbreak, just like before… right?
This novel contains sexual content and profanity.

Samantha did her best to get away and move on, but now life has brought her back. Moving on isn’t and option when she has to save her family’s ranch, and single dad Cole might be her only choice. I always love a good second chance romance, add in Cole’s adorable little tot, and his alpha-used to be a bad boy- exmilitary-cowboy self and really the only thing he’s missing from the sexy check list is volunteer firefighter. Samantha and Cole have really great undeniable chemistry that becomes harder to resist, once they manage to get out of their own ways, and find a little confidence in themselves their relationship becomes too hot to handle. A great read. One of my favorites from Leslie North and Mary Sue Jackson.
I received a copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I chose to review it. This one is well written and the characters are wonderful. This one you need to take your time with you don’t want to miss any of the hints who the villains are. This one is worth your time and effort. Give it a chance.

When Samantha is looking for someone to run her family’s ranch, Cole seems like the perfect person to fulfill the position. Samantha left her home town for a new life. She had her future planned out until she received notice that she had inherited her family ranch. She returns home and is determined to keep the ranch out of the hands of her cousin. When she runs into Cole, a guy she dated in high school, he is looking for work so that he can support himself and his son. She offers him a job running the ranch – with room and board – he willingly accepts. Numerous accidents, broken pipes, spilled feed, etc begin to happen. Cole and Samantha are hard pressed to find answers. The chemistry between the two is becoming harder to ignore. Will Samantha’s career goals interfere with their growing relationship? Will they find out who is responsible for all of the accidents on the Ranch? I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to everyone.

Timing, fate and circumstances
The Rancher’s Second Chance by Mary Sue Jackson is a well written second chance romance with a bit of denial throughout. Truly the antagonist(s) in this book are the characters themselves with a bit of the plot thrown in for good measure.
Cole and Sammie have a past that they both seem to be running from for different reasons, however one thing they have in common is what seems like esteem issues. Both negative talk to themselves while trying to build the other up.
I totally fell for Cole. Not only is he alpha and super sexy, he’s also former military, a cowboy and the single dad of a toddler! Dreamy sigh. Sammie is equally hot in her own right with her determination, super smart, ambition, kindness, warmth and heart.
Overall a very enjoyable second chance romance in which Cole, Sammie and Devon get their HEA all around.
I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
This was a great read, it hooks you right from the start and you kinda know where things are going but there is so much more going on and this in turns draws you closer into the story. Both Sam and Cole have a lot going on in their life and need each other to get ahead but that lingering attraction from years ago is still there and now they have to try and work together for individual goals, but also living with each other but to help things along is a cute little man called Devon.

Samantha, Cole and Devon are a sweet, sassy story full of love and family. This happily ever after has a few hiccups along the road to completion. This book is filled with good writing, a logical pace, good neighbors and good friends. The bad guy Is easy to spot and easy to dislike. This cute believable story is worth a day of reading.

Dragged back to her childhood home/ranch Sammie now has to find a way to sustain the ranch for one year to get what she desires the most. For Cole coming home is harder than being in the desert of the middle east and being a single father is his hardest mission. Two souls who need to find a way to make the ranch prosper and Cole needs to find a way to keep Sammie there for a future that he knows will work not only for him but for his son. I thought this was a great story start to finish. Engaging characters with a very cute plot!
She’s about to be an assistant professor, he’s a single dad with no prospects.
Sammie used to date Coke Baker in high school. Bad decisions and different directions had her dumping him based in a list of pros and cons.
Now, ten years later, they are both back in Hope Springs. She gives him a job he desperately needs. And he’s packing baggage in the form of his two year old son Devon.

I always love books from these two and this one is no exception Yes it was little bit predictable and we had the usual wil they won’t they thing going on but sometimes that is actually what you want to read

Cole Baker has also returned to town he was the bad boy when they where growing up but he wants to give his son Devon a good life so he has returned but first he will have to convince everyone that he has changed and they aren’t so ready to give him a chance. These two dated for a little while when they where at school but went their separate ways Now she has offered him a job managing her ranch and there is still a spark between them also she is developing a connection to Devon Will they be able to keep the ranch and will they get a HEA You will have to read to see

Join them as they put their all into fixing the ranch while fighting a evil developer.
Laugh at ways of a two year old as he eats dirt, and reads all the time.

I love love love a second chance story, pair it with redemption, this is such a winner. I love Cole, the male protagonist, he has everything you want in a leading literary male. Sammie, the female protagonist is so strong and still vulnerable. The chemistry between them feels very much alive.

The Rancher’s Second Chance by Mary Sue Jackson (and Leslie North) Samantha Jenson couldn’t get out of Hope Springs fast enough when she graduated. Cole Baker is back in town with his two-year-old son, Devon, looking for a place to love and a job, hoping he doesn’t end up at his parents’. He is at the bank, looking for a loan, which he is not going to get. Everyone in town recognizes him and remembers his reputation. Nothing terrible, just a little sketchy. There he runs into Sammie (Samantha) who had been his high school girlfriend for a while. Turns out she’s looking for a ranch manager. She offers him a job. He negotiates for a place for him and Devon to live. Hw gets to the ranch but things go from bad to worse, quickly.
Jackson writes an extremely readable novel. Since it’s a romance, the ending is pretty much a forgone conclusion, but the story is a good one. If Sammie can’t make the ranch she inherited profitable in a year, she loses it to her cousin, who is a shady realtor who has taken advantage of plenty of people in the area. She wants nothing more than to return to her tenured position and well-organized life. Both she and Cole have matured and it shows in their relationship. They are both good characters with interesting back-stories and this is a book worth reading. I recommend it.
