Samantha Jenson likes things ordered. She’s managed to carefully plot out her life, creating lists along the way to keep her on track: Leave small town. No more cowboys—especially him. Get educated. Don’t even think about him. Become a professor. So far, she’s put a check in every box but the last. When her family ranch in Texas goes to her after the death of her father and brother, she’s forced … she’s forced to return home to put things in order and to make sure the property doesn’t get into the hands of her shady cousin. Enter Cole Baker. Tough, hard, distant. Sexy. The kind of guy you’d want standing between you and an attacking bear. Or in your bed. He’s definitely not on Sammie’s to-do list. But when the two of them are thrown together to save the ranch, her list begins to look not quite so important.
No one had ever mistaken Cole for one of the good guys. In and out of trouble his whole life, his one brush with respectability came during the brief time he and Sammie dated in high school. Now, fresh out of the army, he finds himself suddenly navigating the world of single parenthood and is desperate to give his son stability. He needs a job and a place to stay, so when Sammie offers him the role of running the ranch, he swallows his pride and agrees.
All his life he’s let down everyone he loved, so he’ll try to focus on the job, and definitely not think about how beautiful Sammie is, how goddamn cute all her lists are or how good she is with his son. It’ll only end in heartbreak, just like before… right?

Samantha is a very list oriented person who has a list for everything. When she inherited the family ranch, she has to return to make sure her cousin doesn’t get it. What she does know is that Peter, her cousin, is a shady jerk.
Cole has to return to town after his wife dies, leaving his son, Devon without a mother. While Cole was a hell raiser as a teen, he now has to prove to the town that he has changed.
Will Samantha and Cole figure out who and what is going on with the ranch, and will they be able to solve all the current and past problems?
This is my honest opinion on the story. I love the way it was written.
This book is about Sammie (Samantha) and Cole. They dated in high school but Sammie’s dreams got too big for the small town. She is back in town following the passing of her family. Cole is a single dad and in desperate need of a job, Damien gives home one working on her ranch. This book is a great story with lots of plot twists keeping you hanging for more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and loved the HEA.

Other than being way too predictable, this was a nice read. If you like sweet Romances with happy endings after dealing with the bad guy this book is for you. I like my books to have a little more unpredictability. It was well-written with a nice st of characters. The writer does have a way of bringing their struggles to life and you do feel for them which is great. Good Read

In order to move forward, there are moments when life forces us to look back. For Cole and Samantha that seems to be an uphill battle. The Rancher’s Second Chance is my kind of sexy. Life may not always have been kind, but love saw it’s way clear to giving double heartache a chance to get things right.
First loves get a second chance at forever
I loved this story of Sammie Jensen and Cole Baker. They have a lot of chemistry between them but the story-line is also strong and it held my attention. As always with this author there is a lot of emotion in the story as the main characters come together. This is a second chance romance between “first loves” that cross paths once again and the circumstances may just be right for a lot of loving!!!

Love how it wasn’t the everyday plot. The female protagonist left to become a better person. I didn’t like the single dad role but I did like the author’s writing. If the male protagonist didn’t have a child by somebody other than the female protagonist I would’ve given it 5

What a cute story well parts of it weren’t but it’s hard to resist Devon the ranchers son. When Samantha gets roped into coming home to preserve her family ranch and keep it from being bought up as a development she is beyond angry, she has just accepted a teaching assignment at Yale. When she runs into Cole a former boyfriend and his adorable son Devon it’s the answer to her prayers, she needs someone to run the ranch and he needs somewhere to live. It’s not as easy as that because they have a deadline to make everything up to code but everything keeps breaking and if Samantha stays there her heart will too.
Love Samantha and Cole together but it may be impossible.

Samantha is about to realize her dream as an economics professor. Samantha has just tragically lost her father and brother and has learned the terms of her father’s will requires that she move home and live on the family ranch for one year. She is not a rancher and her underhanded, shady cousin is waiting for her to fail so he can take over the ranch. Enter Cole Baker, the town bad boy. Cole has moved back home after serving in the military and after the loss of his wife and is looking for work and a place to live for himself and his 2 year old son. Cole does not want to rely on the girl that broke his heart but when Sammie offers him a job, it is an offer he can not refuse.
This is a well written story about 2nd chances, fighting for the underdog, fighting against the bully, and realizing your dreams may need to change and you need to set new dreams.

Leslie North knows her authors – Mary Sue Jackson is going to be a favorite of mine with her books. This book is right up my alley – strong woman and stubborn cowboy with a little one….I love it.
This book had everything you want from romance, fighting, and some steam. This book is about Cole and Sammie, known to Devvy as Bammie (very cute). Cole is a new single father as Devon’s mother passed away and he had just returned from the service. He didn’t know how to be a father when everything around him was going to hell. He needed a job and when he went to the bank to hope for a loan, he meets up with his first and last love Samantha.
Samantha has just inherited the land that she grew up in after both parents and brother passed away. She has a sleazy cousin name Pete who is trying to get the land as he knows she is living in NYC living her dream of being a tenured professor; however, she doesn’t want her cousin to ruin what her father and grandfather build, so as stated in the clause, she must stay there for a year, but there is now a sanction to take it away due to a lot of repairs that needs to happen. She takes a leave for a year to have it fixed and obtain a ranch foreman, when she bumps into Cole.
She makes him an offer he can’t refuse as this is what he needs in order to provide a home for his little buckaroo. The story takes off from there. There is a lot of love that is shown, and maternal instincts kick in for her in which she never thought would happen. Devon was a wonderful character and I loved how smart he was. This is a great book and I loved it.

Samantha is a professor but returns to Texas after her father and brother are killed. She is left the ranch and her cousin is trying to take it from her. She hires Cole to be her foreman who was her ex boyfriend. Cole was a troublemaker but now has a little boy to raise. They both work to get the ranch up to code but things keep happening. Samantha doesn’t plan on staying, she has to get back to start her teaching job at Yale. The more time she spends with Cole and his son, the harder it will be to leave. Can they save the ranch and become a family?
I absolutely loved this story. It has a little humor, steamy, and an evil cousin. Second chance for two people.

Sexy and heartfelt, The Rancher’s Second Chance is a fabulous read. Mary Sue Jackson has hit it out of the stables with this gorgeous story. Happy reading!!
Mary Sue Jackson as quickly been added to my “Must Read” author list and deservedly so. Ms Jackson continually writes well-rounded characters and excellent plots that keep the reader captivated and intrigued from the first till the very last page.
The Rancher’s Second Chance had everything! Drama, deception, conflict and intense chemistry that simply couldn’t be denied. If the second chance romance between Sammie and Cole isn’t enough to woo the true romantic’s heart, then add to the mix the sweetest toddler there ever was, and you’ve got total heart melt.
A beautifully written story that highlights the emotional tug-of-war between what you have strived to achieve and what really matters when push comes to shove. The character portrayals are spot on, and the small-town community spirit is a delightful addition too. There’s simply nothing about this story not to love! I can’t wait for Ms Jackson’s next exciting tale.
A great story
The characters were so great and the chemistry between the two main characters was scorching hot.
This book was filled with action, suspense, intrigue and twists and turns with a great ending.
I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

Samantha comes back to her hometown when she inherits the family ranch. Not knowing what she’s going to do with it she goes to talk with the bank about the finances of it. Cole is back in town with his son trying to find a job or get a loan to buy a place of his own. When Sammie sees him she walks over to him and asks if he can meet with her that she has an offer that will solve both of their problems. Sammie and Cole haven’t seen or spoken to each other since they broke up before she left for college. So Cole is somewhat wary of what she wants with him. When she explains that he would have room and board plus a wage if he help her with the ranch he accepted because his options were limited. Sparks fly between them and even though they tried to keep things platonic between them since she wasn’t planning on staying there. They end up giving into temptation and sleep together. When Cole sees how attached his son is becoming to her he starts to pull away and tells her it would be best if she didn’t pick up his son from daycare anymore too. When she got told they needed her sooner for her teaching job she accepted it and starts planning to leave. Yet in her heart she is hoping that Cole will ask her to stay. Will Cole see that they are meant to be a family and ask her to stay?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

An amazing second chance romance that is emotionally deep and beautifully written. The storyline is very interesting, funny, witty, and intriguing. Likeable characters with the chemistry between them off the charts and undeniable. The ups and downs, suspense, and family drama make this book the one to read. Definitely recommended.

A sweetly heartwarming, sexy and fun small-town journey that was filled with intriguing charters, witty banter and simmering passion…. was a great read from beginning to end. This second chance romance has all the right emotional thrills.
This was a fun second chance to while away an afternoon. I’m not normally a fan of second chance books as I sometimes feel its an out for not fully developing a character. I enjoyed this because of the flaws of the characters. No one’s perfect and I like characters that aren’t. I do wish the author had explored the main characters pasts, both together and apart a little more that led them to where they came back to together.
