He isn’t home to stay Until a mother-to-be changes his mind Ethan Blackwell is back in Falcon Creek to save his family ranch after his grandfather disappears. When Grace Gardner reveals she’s pregnant with his child, she becomes Ethan’s top priority. But can he be the man he wants to be–preserving the Blackwell legacy and making a life with Grace–in a place he never planned to settle down?
What would you do if you were saddled with debt and jobless even though you are a licensed veterinarian but not in the state where you just found out that your ex-girlfriend’s sister was having your baby and you know she would never consider leaving the state where you’re not licensed to practice even though you vowed you’d never return to said state unless it was to sit through the reading of your grandfather’s Will but meanwhile you’ve been called back there because your beloved brother needs your help to try to save your grandfather’s ranch that you grew up on but that your grandfather has run off and abandoned leaving behind mounting debts that you’re not in a position to shore up and the only person who can help you to access some of your grandfather’s assets to temporarily save the ranch is one of his ex-wives who is a judge that grandpa was married to for five days who you believe still hates you for blowing out her truck’s tires when you were a kid and who refers to you as “Day Two” but who you need help from desperately because you don’t want to let your brother down in his time of need?
Are you still with me? Welcome to Ethan Blackwell’s life. He’s got a lot going on, but he’s not willing to stay in Falcon Creek longer than what’s necessary to help his brother. But what about Grace Gardner and his baby dilemma? Someone has to be willing to compromise, but neither seems likely to budge on their convictions. Will Ethan “stop running” and find that what he’s looking for is right in front of him? And will Grace recognize Ethan’s true feelings and get to fulfill her dreams in the only place she’s destined to call home?
I loved this book!! The fully fleshed-out characters endear you to this series. I liked the build up to Ethan’s finding out he was going to be a father, along with the suspense of learning how Grace’s sister, Sarah Ashley, would react to the news that her sister is carrying her ex-boyfriend’s baby. I didn’t know what to expect but the way the author tidies up all of these seemingly impossible scenarios was truly impressive. And again, those characters!! Judge Myrna Edwards was one of my favorites. The way the scene played out between her and Ethan put a smile on my face. I can’t provide any more details because I don’t want to give too much away. And that epilogue!
All I can say is I am enjoying this series to the point that I’ve thrust aside a couple of other reading commitments to squeeze this one in because I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Excellent contemporary western romance. Ethan just finished veterinary school but came home to help his brother care for the Blackwell Ranch. Grace has lived in town and loves being surrounded by all her friends and family. Ethan and Grace get together at her sisters wedding only to find out she’s having a baby and Ethan has no intention of living in Montana. Ms. Webb did an excellent job developing the secondary characters. This is a very enjoyable story. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books, especially in this series, by this author.
A clean romance – this is an adorable story of two people who need one another and the journey we go on to watch them discover it.
“The Rancher’s Rescue” (Return of the Blackwell Brothers Book 2) by Cari Lynn Webb is a great read. I loved Ethan and Grace’s story. This is a wonderful addition to this series, with romance, humor, animals, family, and more. I can’t wait to see what happens next in “The Rancher’s Redemption” by Melinda Curtis. Highly recommend to all fans or romance, family, and series.
I really like the premise of this series Return of the Blackwell Brothers: five different authors each weaving a story about one specific Blackwell brother while creating a bigger overarching theme on a ranch in Falcon Creek, Montana. I’ve never read any of these authors before so it’s an extra treat to discover new-to-me authors. This second book in the series can totally be read as a stand-alone. The oldest brother Jonathon, from the first book, has a prominent role in this book but you don’t need Jonathon’s backstory to fully get immersed in Ethan’s story.
Ethan is a reliable, tender, and gentle vet who has been called home by his oldest brother to help out with their family’s ranch. Their grandfather who has been running the ranch has disappeared and they’re at a loss in trying to figure out how to save the ranch from financial ruin. Grace is a sweet, meek, reliable, efficient, and dependable accountant who is having Ethan’s baby. Throw into this precarious friendship/relationship Grace’s insecurity of her worth, Ethan’s emotional baggage from being orphaned at a young age and being raised by a grandfather who has had multiple failed marriages, and Ethan’s dismal financial status, and we have a well-written story full of surprises and memorable characters who tug at the heartstrings. There are definitely more poignant childhood memories embedded into Ethan’s story than Jonathon’s and it’s fun to have my reader’s view of the five Blackwell brothers expand little by little with each story I finish. I can’t wait to delve into Ben’s story next and see how similar or different he is compared to his twin Ethan.
I was given a copy of this book from the author/publisher via Prism Book Tours and Eason under no obligation to write a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
This is the second book in the multi author series. If you haven’t started it you are truly missing out. Ethan is back at the Blackwell Ranch the place he never wanted to come back to, but family has drawn him back. I loved watching Grace and Ethan together. They were delightfully adorable. Plus I liked the we got to revisit Jon and his family from the first book. I enjoyed the growth of the characters in this book. The fear of change and putting yourself out there. A lot of people can relate to. The family drama with the Blackwells because their grandfather is still MIA. The characters pulled me into the book and the story kept me there. I felt satisfied when I finished this book. It made my heart feel happy.
Ethan Blackwell has a plan for his life and when he’s done straightening out his grandfather’s financial mess, he’s going to get back to it. When Grace Brewster tells him that he’s going to be a father, his need to get his own financial situation and career stabilized.
Cari Lynn Webb takes some of the people introduced in the first book in this series (The Rancher’s Twins by Carol Ross) and builds on them flawlessly. Readers get to meet most of the Brewster clan and Lydia, John, and the twins also make an appearance. And oh boy, Ethan with his nieces is going to melt your heart a little bit!
While Ethan and Grace never deny their attraction for each other, there are plenty of obstacles for them to overcome. It will take some tough love, soul searching, and a little bit of a miracle for Ethan to let go of his plan and follow his heart—even if it does take him long enough.

Solid 4.5 Star
Ethan begrudgingly is back to see what he can do to help save the family farm after Elias skips town without a word and leaves behind a farm with an identity crisis due to Elias’s young wife’s ideas. Ethan doesn’t have time for family drama when he is so close to getting his equine veterinary career off the ground so he is hoping to get in then out so he can move on with his life. Ethan didn’t expect Grace to put a speed bump in his plans and Grace wasn’t expecting to have one of the Blackwell brothers about to become a major part of her life. I love how the characters are real, they are flawed, they make mistakes and most of all just want to be happy and it is due to this that you can not help but fall in love with this series and all those with in it…well maybe not Elias though. Even though each book in this series is written by a different author they just flow naturally together and the characters retains the same characteristic in each book and hooks you even more into their stories.
ETHAN BLACKWELL WAS surrounded by critically ill checking accounts.
Ethan was born to be a veterinarian. From the time he was very little he loved to be around animals and had an inborn instinct for how to help them. He never thought of doing anything with his life other than caring for animals.
I experienced a number of emotions as I read this book. At first, I liked Ethan and felt bad for him as he was having to deal with the mess his grandfather had left at the ranch. Then I was a bit appalled at Ethan as he discovered that he had gotten Grace pregnant. It almost seemed like he resented the fact she was still pregnant and hadn’t done anything about it. Nothing was specifically said about that – it was just the way he reacted. But he eventually won me over as I saw him interact with his nieces, saw his kindness towards the people of the town who came to him for help with their pets, and the way he ended up desiring to make things right and care for Grace and the baby.
The story was both humorous and heartwarming. I enjoyed the writing style and the way the author made it known that Ethan was wanting to swear and yet didn’t even use fake swear words to convey that. (I hate swearing in books and I think I hate the fake swear words or the use of *** to mask the intention equally as much!)
Grace was so lovely. She felt like the ugly duckling among her two swan sisters and also felt unappreciated and yet that the burden of keeping the family store running well was on her shoulders. I enjoyed watching her interactions with her family and the changes in Sarah Ashley.
Near the beginning of the story, I felt the over-emphasis of Grace’s fears and Ethan’s resentment that he was stuck in town was frustrating. I got it and didn’t need to have them reiterated as much as they were. But this didn’t continue and I really began to enjoy the story and by the end was smiling and very glad I read it.

THE RANCHER’S RESCUE is book 2 in the Return of the Blackwell Brothers series. I have to say that each of these books can be read as a stand alone but work better when read in order. I loved all these characters, getting to meet them through each book is so awesome. This is the second story in the series and we get to know Ethan. Ethan is such a well written and realistic character that by the time you finish this story you’ll want to meet him in person. I loved watching Ethan deal with the past and what he wants out of the future, and dealing with Grace and all that she reveals. Fans of the Heartwarming line are sure to adore this new story from author Cari Lynn Webb. Fans of great stories with well developed engaging characters and a story-line that leaves you eager for more are going to want to grab this story NOW. I highly recommend THE RANCHER’S RESCUE to one and all. I can’t wait to read more from author Cari Lynn Webb!
Oh, this was such a good story and a great addition to the Return of the Blackwell Brothers series! The Rancher’s Rescue is book two of the series, yet reads beautifully as a standalone, as well.
I really enjoyed reading about these two characters, Ethan and Grace, who find themselves expecting a child as a result of one night together three months earlier. It was interesting to see how each of them handled the impending arrival, both emotionally and intellectually.
Ethan, especially, had a lot of baggage to overcome from his past. These things made committing to love anyone a challenge and almost cost him his chance at true love and a family of his own.
I am really enjoying this series and look forward to the next book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun story to read! I love it when a woman is suddenly pregnant and she thinks that by waiting to tell the father it is going to “magically” make things better or easier on the situation. It never happens that way. I liked these characters. They were real, flawed but oh so enjoyable! Gracie was a little to headstrong for me….she could have leaned on Ethan a little bit! I know there was a lot of history between her, Ethan and their families but still, she didn’t need to be so “standoffish” at times! I liked her better as the book progressed! I liked Ethan but he too, was way too focused on leaving town and I felt he didn’t even once consider being a father to his child! It was a very good story though. I loved seeing the character development though because Gracie and Ethan weren’t really in love at first but I enjoyed watching their feelings change and grow! I would recommend this book – you’ll enjoy it!!!
I was delighted to receive this book complimentary from the author but was not required to review it. My opinions are my own.
4 1/2 STARS!
One night leads to forever! With the next book in the Return of the Blackwell Brothers series, Cari Lynn Webb brings us Ethan’s story. He’s been away getting his eduction, and agrees to come home to help while they search for Big E, but he has his own problems simmering on the back burner and drama yet to unfold to look forward to! He and Grace make a really sweet couple, so watching their relationship develop is really enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book soon!
Newly minted equestrian veterinarian Ethan Blackwell doesn’t really have time to be wasting visiting his old stomping ground, but when his brother Jon puts out a call for help figuring out the finances and running their grandfather’s ranch until they can figure out where the old coot has disappeared to, he figures he can’t put off the trip. He needs to be back on the road and hunting for that perfect job soon though!
Grace Gardner is always the one her family and the town turn to when they need something from their family ranch supply store. She has dreams of starting her own business, but they keep getting pushed to the way side. Now she’s just discovered she’s pregnant and really needs to accomplish her dreams so she can give her child a good life … but first she has to tell Ethan he’s going to be a daddy!
Who doesn’t love a good cowboy love story. While at first the story starts off strong and sucks you in, I wish that they would not have tip toed around the same issues for almost the whole book, it seemed that they each had there own goals but wouldn’t discuss with each other what they really wanted. I did really love how Grace was looking to find her self and how her sister was also on the same journey. I really enjoyed how Ethan loved his family and no matter what happened with his grandfather did he was willing to be there for his brothers and his nieces. I loved Pops and the small town of Falcon Creek and the fun characters in the book. This book is a good clean read and overall I really have enjoyed this series so far and really can’t wait too see where the brothers and what there futures hold.
“The Rancher’s Rescue” by Cari Lynn Webb is book 2 of the Return of the Blackwell Brothers continuity.
Ethan Blackwell returns home to Falcon Creek to help keep the Blackwell Ranch afloat. He doesn’t intend to stay—he has an equine veterinary career to launch and debts to pay. He doesn’t count on Grace Gardner, the woman he spent the night with months earlier after attending a wedding, to make him doubt his life plan.
Grace has intentions to start her own accounting business while continuing to help with the family business. She intends to raise her baby alone because she knows Ethan isn’t home to stay, even though she can’t help but want more with him.
Ethan and Grace are continually drawn to each other, while not wanting to admit that what they truly want is the love of the other.
“The Rancher’s Rescue” proves you can still have what you want, just not in the way you expect.
Ms. Webb crafts a story with a cast of well-drawn characters and shows us the heart and soul of life is the love of family.
This reader will be on the look-out for more books from this author.
First, let me say that yes, this book can be read as a standalone however it IS a part of a series about the Blackwell Brothers and this story is about brother #2, Ethan Blackwell. The best part, for me, were the little (what will become clues and inside stories between the brothers and others) Easter egg gems that I started to notice now that I’ve read book two. It’s not necessary to know what they are; it’s just very enjoyable to be able to groan and know that it means there’s trouble ahead, and much teasing, for this particular brother, as it was for the one before him.
Ethan Blackwell comes back to Falcon Creek, a place he swore to never see again, to help his brother Jon – and his family – straighten out a huge mess created by his grandfather up and leaving the “family” farm without direction or resources. He plans to get in and get right back out again; I won’t retell the story but let’s say that Ethan is NOT happy to be back. He runs into Grace Gardner, sister to an old flame of his, and Grace is definitely a hometown girl.
Both Grace and Ethan have such deep hurts and events in their backgrounds they need to overcome before they can trust and love one another. Their story is fully of ups and downs, and craziness, and sometimes just plain fun. I loved Pops, Grace’s grandfather. He was just the right blend of I-can-get-away-with-anything-cuz-I’m-old and snarky ‘n’ sneaky. He is just a hoot. And insightful. He will make you smile. And then laugh because he comes up with the best remarks that speak of much love and wisdom. Grace’s parents are pretty terrific, too, and (most of the time!) I’d love to be related to them as well. Grace is a lucky woman.
The story is all about Ethan working out being back in Falcon Creek, getting reacquainted with his family and Grace learning that she is strong enough to sometimes rely on others. Really loved their story! I don’t consider this a spoiler as it doesn’t tell you much but my favorite lines were: “Can I borrow $25?” “Can I borrow ANOTHER $25??” Loved this book, really loving the series, and can’t wait for the next one!
