I don’t read a lot of books where the H/Hn are billionaires, but Ms. Yates’ story focuses so much on the characters’ humanity, and the struggles they’ve gone through to get where they are, that their current riches seem more like an afterthought. I don’t mean this in a negative way, but rather that their money doesn’t define them. Anyone who has lost a loved one will identify with Knox’s grief. And anyone with a hard childhood will understand Selena’s fear of relationships. All in all, an emotionally wrenching and satisfying story.
Definitely a unique premise, and an engaging reunion story with two memorable characters who are such good friends they don’t want to risk true love.
*I won this book off of BookishFirst.com for my honest opinion*
To be honest, I was hesitant about starting this book because it was an Harlequin novel and I thought I remembered them having a bad connotation about them. HOWEVER, this was a really great read. I loved the characters, the dialogue seemed normal, and the writing was pretty darn good. I’m super glad I won this book and it just goes to say, you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Also, I’m a big sucker for friends turned lovers books so if that is up your alley, read this!
An emotional, inspiring, and heartbreaking story that took my breath away.
I am a big fan of Maisey Yates’s writing. I know she can take the reader to the deep, dark waters of emotional turmoil. Yet this story blew me away with its beautiful description of those raw feelings that makes you feel like you are drowning, suffocating, and burning inside out at the same time. I smiled, I laughed, I was in tears, and I loved every single word and moment of the tale. I kept going back, marveling at the beauty of the words string together and the sense of the events they were creating.
Knox McCoy is not the half a man he used to be. He is living with an empty heart after losing his daughter for cancer and as a consequence, his wife. He feels empty, hallow, and like he has nothing to offer any more as a man. His only anchor during the storm is his best friend, Selena Jacobs, and there is no way on earth he is going to ruin that relationship by acting on his physical attraction towards her. Knox is a good man, he is kind, protective, generous, sexy, and capable. He is also sad, he is lost, afraid, and mourning for the life lost way too soon.
Selena Jacobs’ abusive childhood taught her not to want a romantic relationship, not to want a family of her own. She needed to be in charge, she needed to have the power over her own life, she could not be dependent on anyone else, that was the life lesson her parents gave her. Knox is the one person she trusted with her life and secrets and she protected that friendship over everything else in life. Even the burning attraction towards him that suddenly left her lightheaded.
The connection between Knox and Selena is strong, tangible, and enduring, built over time. They were so tuned into each other, at times it felt like they were just one being, they knew each other like only old friends do, and the years of friendship was the foundation they could start to build something more, if only they dared to do take the leap.
When a story pulls all the emotions out of you, when there is laughter, and fun banter, when there is ardent passion, deep-seated emotions, “the heights of love and the lows of loss”, profound sadness, and joy that reaches the sky — this is a must-read book!

Was really interesting, when found he was to a dad.Love it Love
Selena Jacobs life has just become a soap opera. As her world starts to cave in a around her, it’s nice to know she has a shoulder to lean on. Knox McCoy is the friend she can always turn to when the world becomes to much. He holds the key to her heart. Secretly of course. What happens when scandal turns secret fantasies into realistic drama? And the shocks don’t end there. The Rancher’s Baby goes from romantic comedy to heartwarming read and back again. Friends to lovers is one scenario, I’ll never tire of.
Selena Jacobs has never really made time to find love, always putting something before it, or making excuses of why she is isn’t ready for it, all because she bare witness to what happens when love goes wrong when she was just a young girl. Watching her parents marriage unravel left her brokenhearted and not wanting to ever go through that herself, so she has always taken the safe route when it comes to men, especially with her best friend Knox. When they met back in college, she knew instantly that if given the chance he could be her “one”, but they were both too young and busy for that so she kept him waiting in the wings as her friend, and then she wound up making a choice that eventually pushed him into the arms of another woman. From that point on he became off limits for anything other than friendship, but circumstances are different for them both now, and she thinks she is finally ready to give them a shot… problem is Knox just ended a marriage and can’t find it in himself to offer her anything more, now she must decide if it is really worth the risk?
The Rancher’s baby is a sweet and touching tale that is sure to give you the feels and tug on your heartstrings! The well crafted story line centers around two friends that have always harbored secret crushes for one another, and never had the courage to act on those feelings… until now. Watching these two dance around one another was quite entertaining, “the will they, won’t they” dance kept me on the edge of my seat in anticipation. And while they danced the sparks arched around them, and things took a spicy little turn, one that had me in need of a fan…these two really knew how to crank up the heat!! I really enjoyed this newest installment to the Texas Cattlemen’s Club series, it was a perfectly balanced romance read that left me craving more, so I forsee a return trip in the very near future! Highly recommend this one!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

The Rancher’s Baby is my first story by this author and it was sweet.
Selene and Knox are best friends since college and even while they don’t talk about it, there is something more for Selene, but never she says anything, afraid to lose Knox and his friendship.
Selena and Knox have build their lives but after their marriages failed (both for different reasons) life makes them face together what they didn’t know about their feelings for each other back in collage. They have been in contact for all this time but after tragedy hits Knox he keeps to himself and when, Selena’s ex “dies”, they reconnect.
Selena comes from a controlling family so when she sees freedom she takes the first opportunity not caring about the consequences, marrying his best friend, Will, and maybe breaking her other’s friend heart -Knox.
Knox had everything, a great job, money and a beautiful family until tragedy made him lose what he loved the most, followed by the breakdown of his marriage. He is afraid to continue his life afraid to lose it again, so when he and Selena confess their feeling both of them agree that nothing can be serious.
When true feelings start to grow up, Selena surprises Knox with a news that can destroy what they have so far.
We get to know all the story behind their lives, what made them to go after the paths that separated them and their confessions about their feelings and their choices or marriages.
I loved the message I got from the story, to forgive and be strong enough to recognize that in a relationship both can be wrong
Have the maturity to face your failures and not to blame the other for them.
To be brave to get over your fears and start again to be happy.
