Her secrets and other situations could jeopardize the relationships she finally was making with co-workers and maybe even a man.
I have nothing but high praise about the characters! They were fun, serious, but relatable for the time period! The author kept the storyline moving forward so that you wanted to keep turning the pages!
I definitely would recommend this book to a friend.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
I liked this slightly different type of romance. The characters have something extra special about them. Victoria and Finn an unlikely couple share dreams and try to put them together. Victoria has a special talent that makes her need extra protection. Finn and his family, not by blood, take her in to help her get her power under control. Finn has no title and knows he is not good for Victoria but they can’t stay away from each other. Finn will have to get over his past to have a future with Victoria.
Fun read with great characters
Loved the book, and will be looking forward to reading more books from this Author.
Enjoyable
Although the formatting was bad in this copy I was able to enjoy it because I received an ARC of the same story. There were blank pages in this copy.
I really liked Victoria and Finn and found their love undeniable.
This is a great story of mystical and psychic powers.
Tracy Sumner has done a stupendous job with the psychic elements of this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A very compelling Finn can read minds, but not Lady Victoria’s. She, too, has a gift (erasing moments of time) that she thinks only gets her out of scrapes. The two develop an attraction and Finn feels protective, bringing her into his makeshift family comprised of members with other supernatural gifts. Enjoyable book.
Great word building too!
Tracy Sumner’s League of Lords series is top-notch. I found myself reading a smidgen slower than normal to savor the author’s witty and wonderful word pictures. The Rake is Taken is a steamy Regency historical novel that you can get lost in and forget your troubles for a few hours. I am admittedly fascinated by characters with supernatural gifts, but, of course no one gets to choose which one or several they are to be blessed with. For the characters in this series, their “gifts” set them apart from others and typically cause fear and scorn, so it’s understandable that these unusual abilities can be more curse than blessing and cause more pain than pleasure. But fear not, their naughty antics and courage under pressure as they learn to control and live at peace with their gifts make fascinating stories you’re sure to enjoy. Finn and Victoria’s story is one of the best.
I loved the tortured Finn and his Tori. So many times I wanted to smack him because of his need to self sacrifice and protect but I loved how he came around in the end. Amazing HEA and more books to come.

An historical paranormal romance. I totally enjoyed this book. A great story with a twist. Victoria and Finn were an interesting couple with lots of intense chemistry. Loved it!!
The Rake is Taken: Steamy Victorian Psychic Romance is book 2 in the League of Lords series. This is a standalone adult Victorian paranormal romance. Victoria has abilities to steal tine and block other peoples abilities. She has her the rumors about Finn. Finn also has supernatural abilities. He can read minds. Victoria doesn’t realize he has helped her out of a couple of incidents. Finn realizes she has abilities can block his when he is close. At the beginning i wasn’t to into the book but after awhile i was hooked. The characters are great and the storyline is interesting.
This is such a unique book; I can say that I have never read anything like it. A historical romance combine with the paranormal. The main characters Victoria and Finn each have their own extraordinary gifts.
The fast paced story packs a lot to read but is original and interesting. I enjoyed how each character handled their gift and their relationship with each other. This book was a nice change of pace. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book
I have to say that this book was very interesting and I enjoyed it more that I though I would. It has a little bit of everything in it which makes it that more interesting to read. I was very captivated and could not wait to see what came next. Great book and definitely recommended.
This has the most unique and astounding paranormal elements I’ve ever read about. This also does a great job of providing more understanding of the league and it’s history as well as the members. As in book one, the gifts causes them distress which puts them in some unsavory situations. I think the romantic interest was there but there are so many other things going on that it’s not as romantic as I was expecting it would have been. Never the less, very interesting blend of the plight of the haves and have nots of society.
Victoria is set to marry but when she gets an invitation to go to see the league and maybe see Finn again the rake who she has seen in her dreams. Finn and Victoria possess some unique gifts and people who want to use them for their own greed on top of it all Victoria has been promised to marry a man she despises to save her family. Finn and Victoria become friends which has never happened to him before because he has always been a scoundrel and a rake who no one properly bred would be seen with. This story made you think about some things that you can’t explain.
THE RAKE IS TAKEN by Tracy Sumner is the second book in the League of Lords paranormal historical romance series and takes place during Victorian times in 1870 England. The book worked as a standalone novel, but reading the first book will provide some additional background on the characters.
The main characters in this novel are Finn Alexander and Lady Victoria Hamilton and both have supernatural gifts. Finn is handsome, runs a gambling place, and is known for loving and leaving many women and he is continually in London’s gossip sheets. Victoria’s family is in trouble and she has agreed to marry someone for duty.
After reading book one in the series, I knew that this would not be a historical fiction novel where the reader would learn much about the history of the period. Being prepared for this helped set my expectations for the novel. However, I did learn about class distinctions during the time period. Other themes included friendship, family duty, family relationships and much more.
The main characters are likeable and definitely someone you can root for. They felt three-dimensional and their chemistry pulled the story line together. I connected with them immediately. Their flaws also came through and made for a more realistic portrayal. Additionally, their goals were clear and influenced the plot. The secondary characters brought depth to the story line. It was great to see characters in book one in a different context.
While the viewpoint is switched a few times between chapters, the story line progressed smoothly with effective transitions. The author did a great job of world-building. The descriptions were vivid and gave a clear sense of time and place without detracting from the flow of the story. There are a couple of steamy scenes in the last part of the novel.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and fun read with relatable characters. If you enjoy paranormal historical romances, then I recommend you check out this series.
I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thanks go to Tracy Sumner for the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
*** AMAZING A SUPERNATURAL DELIGHT! ***
It was nice to be reunited with the people of League. It’s like visiting old friends. Piper, Julian, Ashcroft, Humphrey and Finn. This story introduces a new character to the league, Victoria who called her weird quirk a parlor trick. But Finn knew better and took her to Julian to discover more of her gift. While there she and Finn got to know each other better. Although they both fought the attraction and frustration that went along with the denial. Victoria was engaged to a baron nicknamed “the grape”. Her family needed the money her marriage would bring. Finn was determined to find an alternative. Ashcroft was a duke and in need of an heir. Would he consider marrying Victoria and settling her parents cash problems? What of the “grape”? Would he step aside or was he holding something over her father? This is an exciting read full of suspense, tension, raw emotions and feelings. I highly recommend this.
I didn’t realize that this was the second in a series, but reading it as a stand alone was not a problem, except that I now want to read the first book. This is a supernatural, historical, steamy romance with intriguing characters who struggle through the social issues of the time. I found the book fascinating.
Finn Alexander has been having dreams and he thinks that Victoria Hamilton can help him. Finn can read minds and has been watching and helping Victoria as she uses her little “parlour trick” of taking short term memories from people. Victoria has never known love from her parents and is being forced into a loveless marriage to pay off her father’s debts, or at least that’s what she believes. When he was 9 years old, Finn was rescued from the streets by Julian Alexander, Viscount Beauchamp and the guardian of the Chronology and protector of The League, those who have supernatural talent. The Chronology is a tome written by Julian’s wife, Piper’s grandfather. It is a historical book listing people with powers Victoria doesn’t realize that she has another talent- she can block out the powers of others and because of that she is in danger. Victoria is invited to spend some time at their estate, for her powers to be studies and she to be protected. But who is her real enemy, what is her connection to Finn’s dreams and what about the powerful connection between Fin and Victoria? Lots of twists before the final HEA.
I read an ARC from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
He reads memories. She steals and erases memories.
Scoundrel Finn Alexander rescues Lady Victoria Hamilton from exposing herself when she disguises herself as a physic to the ton. He Is protecting her from the public knowing she has real supernatural powers. Victoria is able to steal and erase someone’s memory. Finn also has a supernatural power he is keeping secret. He can read minds except for Victoria’s. Victoria is in love with Finn but knows they run in different social circles. Finn is a scoundrel with a heart of gold who is the brother of Viscount Julian from the first book. Victoria is engaged to be married to a horrible man to pay off her parents debts. Finn protects her from herself mostly. Lol. I liked this however, not as much as the first. Lol. It was hard to follow what was happening in the beginning so much so that I was going to declare this a DNF. However, I began to relax and sit back and enjoy the story. The characters are funny and entertaining. I like how Victoria was sassy and pissed off Finn sometimes as she tried to get his attention. Lol. The sex is steamy as always. This was more of a romantic novel not so much a sexy Disney fairytale. Lol. Which is fine. I enjoyed it anyway. And will definitely read more of this authors book. I am a fan. I love her slow-burn romances. Lol. I received a complimentary copy of this book from BOOKSIRENS. Com and the author in exchange for an honest review.
Very different concerning the characters who have unusual powers. One can read minds, another can heal the mind, the heroine can block their powers, giving them respite from their powers
