Do you believe in love at first sight?Sanford Stewart sure doesn’t. In fact, he pretty much believes in the exact opposite, thanks to the Homo Jock King. It seems Darren Mayne lives for nothing more than to create chaos in Sandy’s perfectly ordered life, just for the hell of it. Sandy despises him, and nothing will ever change his mind.Or so he tells himself. It’s not until the owner of Jack It – … the owner of Jack It – the club where Sandy performs as drag queen Helena Handbasket – comes to him with a desperate proposition that Sandy realizes he might have to put his feelings about Darren aside. Because Jack It will close unless someone can convince Andrew Taylor, the mayor of Tucson, to keep it open.
Someone like Darren, the mayor’s illegitimate son.
The foolproof plan is this: seduce Darren, and push him to convince his father to renew Jack It’s contract with the city.
Simple, right?
Wrong.

This is the most outrageous book I’ve ever read – well, listened to in this case. It’s over-the-top, un-filtered and inappropriate. It’s absolutely hilarious and I adore it!
Yes, it’s a completely ridiculous storyline, but then, that’s part of the charm of this fantastic story. Told entirely through the viewpoint of Sandy/Helena, this is an end-less stream of WTF consciousness that is the most amazing thing. It’s probably the funniest story I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. It’s right up there with another one of Klune’s works, Tales from Verania. And there’s no question that Michael Lesley’s narration lifts the story even more with him being such an amazing performer.
Sandy thinks Darren is a total a-hole. An a-hole he keeps having indecent fantasies about.
Darren on the other hand is not so secretly quite enamoured with Sandy. During the enactment of their questionable plan – based on Sandy and Darren fake dating – Sandy starts to realize that maybe Darren isn’t such a jackass after all.
I listened to the first book in this series a while back, and Paul and Vince appeared in this installment as well. As did the rest of that cast. Paul’s (and Sandy’s) corny parents, Nana the most outrageous grandmother ever written, the homophobic parrot Johnny Depp and the old, grumpy leather-daddy, Charlie.
I have no idea how Klune can come up with all the fabulous craziness that is this series, but I love him for it. And I’m also in absolute awe.
I actually hesitated in starting in on this book, though. Because reading about a drag queen has honestly never appealed to me.
But I needn’t have worried. This story had me laughing so hard and just gave me the most warm and happy feeling. I can’t recommend this glorious story enough! And now I’m going to purchase the third book.

Loved Sandy and Darren!
The Queen and the Homo Jock King was so fun, funny, sweet, sexy, and just all-around awesome! Although I really liked Paul and Vince’s story in Tell Me It’s Real, I have to say Sandy and Darren’s story took me by surprise with how much I loved it. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers aspect, the teasing, and the bantering back and forth. And there were some really touching parts as well, that just tugged at my heartstrings.
Michael Lesley is such an incredible narrator. No matter how many characters in a story, he’s able to give each one their own distinct voice. He did a fantastic job going back and forth between Sandy and Helena, especially in the scenes where they both made appearances. I’m just in awe of his talent.
Couldn’t get past the first few pages
TJ Kline never lets me down. A fun, sassy read with fabulous characters.
Okay, I have a tendency to really like certain characters in books… Sandy might be a new favorite, although I liked the way Darren interacted with Sandy’s meltdowns. The dialogue was witty and had me laughing out loud. I know I will go back to the series in the future… Great read!!
This book had me laughing out loud. I loved it.
Fucking amazing and so funny…. absolutely must read
I just knew it would be as spectacular as I’d hoped. Obviously no review is necessary to convince anyone to read (or listen to) this book. Michael Lesley was so incredible… as I always say, I think he makes TJ even better and TJ does the same for him 😉 It’s a match made in heaven.
