Can a love built on secrets survive?
Rugged, hot, and rock hard, Dred Zander is exactly the type of man that normally sends Pixie running. Not dreaming about running her hands down his washboard abs…and lower. The lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload embodies trouble behind his quick smile and guarded eyes, and Pixie left trouble behind her years ago along with the name Sarah Jane … Sarah Jane Travers and the pathetic trailer her mom called home. With her abusive past in her past, she has a new life, a new family at Second Circle, and a dream of opening her own business. She needs capital and time. What she doesn’t need is a tempting long-haired rocker or the paparazzi that follow him around.
But Dred has other ideas. Pixie’s sweet hazel eyes, purple hair and kaleidoscopic tattoo of exotic flowers that swirl up her arm haunt his dreams, and he knows she wants him too. He just has to convince her. But as a juicy exposé threatens to expose their pasts, and a blackmailer terrorizes their present, Pixie and Dred have to decide what really matters and fight like hell to keep it.

I m a sucker for a rockstar
I was dying to read this book when I knew it was goin to be Pixie and Dred’s story. There was so much I wanted to know about them both but I just knew that what Pixie went through was good. Both characters had dealt with some really horrible stuff at a young age. They had to deal with the families being torn apart. They never thought they would have a family again. But once Pixie meet Trent and Cujo she knew they were goin to be her new family the guys meant so much to her they helped when she was at rock bottom and she didn’t think anything good could happen. She owned the guys so much. Dred was the same life had just been crap until he met his band mates they were like brother they had al been through a lot but together they could get through anything they were very close and would do anything for each other.
I m totally luvin this series. It’s just brilliant i wish I had read it sooner. They story just had me hooked from the very start. I luv the characters there just so good but have been through so much my heart breaks for them. The story never gets boring once I ve started I can never put it down. I like how close the characters are and how the other characters story blends in with this story. I ve luvd everything book from this series ad I ll be gutted when it’s over it become one of me al time favourite series can’t wait for the next book.
I adored The Purest Hook. It was my first Scarlett Cole book and won’t be the last!!!
Dred is lead singer in a rock band. When he flirts and pursues Pixie, I swooned and fell for him! But he has a past that won’t stay in the past.
“You’ll cave eventually Pix. I give good date, among other things.”
Pixie is hiding from her past. Trying to keep her head down and make a better future for herself.
I felt everything with this book. I swooned with starry eyes, my heart broke for all that Pixie had been through and I cried for all that she still needed to overcome in order to find out if there was any sort of happily ever after in the cards for her.
“I don’t have words or a song,” she said quietly, taking his hand and placing it on her chest. “But my heart understands yours in ways I don’t think I’ll ever quite comprehend”
-5Stars!-
I absolutely loved this book! I need this in paperback and on my bookshelf as it was that good, most definitely the best book in the series so far. Dred Zander is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload. I had previously read a couple of the books in the Preload series also by this author which focus on the other band members, but was really interested in starting at the beginning and meeting the band in book release order. The previous books in this series have already introduced readers to Dred and Pixie (who works at Second Circle Tattoos) and I was desperate to know more about them.
This book had me hooked from the very first chapter. I loved the angst, I loved the characters and I thought the story line was brilliant. It broke my heart to read what both Dred and Pixie had lived through in their younger years and I could totally understand the struggles that they both had in dealing with it all, in order to move forward.
You will become intrigued like I did to know more about the other band members but before you do, read The Purest Hook. I am certain you won’t regret it.
Rockstar Dred Zander’s interest was peaked when he met Pixie. Pixie has a ton of baggage from her past and Dred recognizes that, for her also does. Dred asks Pixie out but she always has a funny comeback that lets him down but he persists. When Pixie finally agrees, Dred questions if he is the type of man who can be in a relationship and is it the right time. However, life happens and Dred finds himself in dealing with his past and Pixies secret about her past is about to be revealed. Will Dred stand by her side or walk away from the best thing that has ever happened to him?
This was really good. I generally do not read books that involve drug use, but this was in the past and was handled really well. I loved Pixie, she is the type of heroine that is inspiring and I loved her spunk. Dred was swoon worthy and the overall story was just brilliant. Great addition to the series.
Pixie and Dred…what can I say…loved them and loved their love story!
This is definitely a romance BUT it is also a story of family. There are the families that we are born into and then the families that we create through caring, sharing, bad times and good – they are the people we spend time with and come to love as siblings, parents and grandparents – the family of our heart. Both Pixie and Dred were born into families that let them down but the families they have created are the best and always there for them.
There is a lot happening in this book so turning pages is not difficult. There are twists and turns and surprises around every corner. Pixie and Dred have been doing a flirtatious dance for some time but when Pixie is ready to move the dance forward she does so and Dred is thrilled. He is sweet and caring and she is nurturing and giving. They have hurdles to overcome but do so gracefully, for the most part.
I loved the men in Preload and hope that each one of them will get their stories told – if not in this series then in an offshoot series. There are still plenty of characters at Second Circle Tattoos to have stories told about and I can hardly wait to learn more about Lia, Eric and the new person brought in to help in the shop.
Thank you to NetGalley and Saint Martin’s Press for the copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review.
4.5 Stars
This book had everything I love in contemporary romances: rock stars and tattooes! Both Dred and Pixie had serious past issues to overcome. She had an abusive past with her stepfather and Dred was a foster child with an addict mother. What I liked most about this book was watching them overcome their past issues and confide in one another. Dred’s band of brothers are clearly going to have their own books, which is great because I can’t wait to learn more about them. After reading this book, I went back and bought the first two books in the series. They focus on the owners/ tattoo artists of the shop which Pixie works at. All around, an enjoyable and a new series to keep my eye on!
Sarah Jane Travers, better known as Pixie these days, left behind all she knew to escape the abusive hell she was living in, in hopes of finding a better life, one she could live on her own terms, and she’s found it in Miami. While she’s created a good life for herself it still doesn’t stop her from occasionally looking over her shoulder for fear that her past might be lurking in the shadows. She did some things that she’s not too proud of to find her freedom, and she is afraid that it will eventually catch up to her, so she tries to maintain a low profile to keep her haunting past at bay. She is focused on her future, and saving funds to one day open her own business, so she can’t afford any distractions… including the sexy rocker who is doing all he can to win her affections. Dred Zander has trouble written all over him, and she isn’t about to be just another woman on his ever-growing list of one night stands!
Rocker Dred Zander has had a rough go at life, but he’s found a way to overcome the bad and come out on the better end of it these days, his band is at the top of the music charts and they are riding a wave of continued success. Being the lead vocalist and guitarist in the band definitely comes with it’s advantages, and Dred has fully embraced them, and indulged in many one night stands, but the novelty of that particular perk is beginning to wear thin and he wants more. More in the form of a beautiful purple haired woman who tempts him in ways that no other woman ever has, the problem is she wants nothing to do with him! He’s asked her out several times and she continually turns him down, which has lead him to believe he maybe losing his touch… or maybe it’s just that she isn’t ready to admit that she wants him too. So he’s going to have to turn up the charm and get real creative to get what he wants…
I have been dying for the opportunity to submerse myself into this book for a while now, mainly because I am well aware of the blissful literary escape’s Ms. Cole’s books provide, and true to my thought she did not let me down!! Seconds after starting this one I felt my addiction settle in, and I knew there was no way I was putting it down until I had devoured every last page…which lead to one very satisfying late night! Pixie and Dred had me at their mercy, each word uttered hitting me deep and evoking emotion, and keeping completely entranced. If ever there were two people more deserving of a happily ever after it has to be these two, they had faced so much heartbreak and disappointment, and it was truly a beautiful thing to witness them letting go of the hurt from their pasts and discover love in it’s purest form. Simply put… it’s breathtakingly beautiful read that is sure to steal your heart and leave you with a renewed sense of hope!
Definitely one of the best reads I have had the pleasure of settling down with this year, and I HIGHLY recommend you get your hands on this read, it will have you at it’s mercy from start to finish!!
