5 Must Read Stars
B.B without a doubt SLAYED this story. I loved Every. Single. Thing about Jaime and Bee, I could not get enough. From start to finish B.B pulls you into their world and wraps you up in the sexiness that is Jaime and doesn’t let you go until the last page!! I have loved every story that she has created and this one is no exception. This is an EPIC ride of first loves and second chances. So, buckle up, have spare panties on hand and enjoy the ride that is Jaime Fucking Buchanan!!!
**“All’s fair in love and war, Barbette.” The moment my bedroom door slammed shut, I sank to the floor, feeling boneless. He’s taken all my strength and common sense with him.**
I’ve been dying for Jaime and Bee story since The Peer and The Puppet. I needed to know what happened and what was really going on between them. B.B did an amazing job of dropping little pieces here and there to elicit your interest in them, but ultimately not letting anything significant through. This story takes you all the way back to when they first met and all the things that happened.
**“He had his hands full, and now he’s tied up.”
“Aren’t those the same thing?” Elliot snapped
“I can’t answer that without feeling sorry for your wife, Mr. Montgomery.”**
Gahhhhh Jaime is too freaking much. His sense of humor and filthy mouth are the perfect combination. Every single thing that comes out of his mouth is dripping with either sarcasm or sensuality. I knew from the start that I was going to fall under his spell, hell I already had from The Peer and The Puppet. But this story just cemented the absolute amazingness that is Jaime. Every facet of this man is designed to make you fall for him. So, prepare to lose not only your hearts to him but also your panties.
**When the clock strikes twelve, you’re mine, Cinderella. Don’t bother wearing panties.**
I loved Bee, I wasn’t sure what I would feel for her, since at least to me we never really got a feel for who she was. She was there but even in the other books it was as if she was just this shell of a person. I should never have doubted that she would have me falling for her, I am completely enamored with Bee. She is pure strength, this girl went through so much and in the end, she still didn’t lose her whole self, that strength was always there it was just buried. Many would have lost themselves completely, they wouldn’t have been able to withstand. But she did. This was one of the reasons I loved her so much. She’s overall just a superb character and you get to see why she became who she is. You get to see the things that happened which slowly chipped away at the girl she was always meant to be. She is Queen!!!!
**“Jaime,” I whimpered. “It’s too much.” Any moment now, Id’ burn, and when he was done with me, there’d be nothing left.**
I don’t want to give too much away because this story is just to freaking good and everyone needs to read it. B.B has created such a phenomenal cast of characters that you can’t help but fall in love with each one, I am utterly obsessed with Blackwood Keep and everyone there. She has such a delicious way with words, that she draws you completely into her stories and you can’t help but get lost to them, I devoured Jaime and Bee’s story in one sitting without moving or coming up for air. So, if you love dirty talking Alpha males and the women who bring them to their knees then you will love this read!!!

WOW …. THIS BOOK !!!!!!!
.
Maybe hour ago I’ve finnished TPATP arc, and Oh Godddd!!!! My world just turned upside down – I thought, that I’m ready for this story, that I WILL SURVIVE, but damn… The Punk and the Plaything just showed that I was sooooo not ready…. that I should be smarter because it’s “only” BB Reid, who will squezze in Her hand my poor trembling heart. TPATP is sinfully delicious MASTERPIECE, written at the finest! Definetely one of my favorite reading this year.
All the feelings are boiling up in me.
I feel broken but healed in the same time…
I feel speachless but I want to say so much…
I feel breathless but very VERY alived.
I was waiting for so long to have my very own date with Jamie but TODAY I’m sure – it’s Bee who has all my love right now.
Bee and Jaime….. I couldn’t imagine more amazing history between then…They are simply EVERYTHING. They are sexy and very feisty, carring for the people who they love. I loved how they interreact with each other. From the book one I was waiting to discover what made them feel so broken… what made them feel so lonely in the crowd.
For now, I can’t say too much, but I feel really pleased today. BB Reid take me for another amazing journey with Bee and Jaime… they have lots of deamons to fight, but I ‘m glad that aurhor write for them THIS kind of story.
Guys…. YOU NEED TPATP like next breath – if You will finally one click this book – read it as fast as You can – when You’ll start, You will undrstand why…
The Punk And The Plaything is must read !!!
The Punk and the Plaything by B.B. Reid met my expectations and so much more! My bookworm heart beat from anticipation for Jamie and Bee’s story. This book turned my world upside down. It is the best example of “don’t judge people based on their looks and behavior”. On the outside, they wear a mask of bravery and fake smiles. On the inside, they are hurting, left alone and protecting people they love.
I had a crush on Jamie and hated Barbette. I knew their hearts were broken and they shared a history. Now, my love toward them is unconditional. Their road to happiness wasn’t easy. It was wild, filled with epic proportions lies, secrets, broken promises, sexual tension, and love. I loved how they changed and matured, especially Bee, and decided to fight for themselves and their relationship.
“If you believe nothing else, Jamie, believe that you were more than a fantasy. You were a dream come true.”
Except for a very emotional love story the author gave us many laughs and flushed cheeks. I loved every encounter between heroes from previous books. Those girl’s rules! They are so strong, sassy and fierce and all of them wrapped their boyfriend around their little fingers. The friendship bond is even stronger right now! And let’s just say the author brought a double date to the next level!
The Punk and the Plaything is one of the best second chance, enemies to lovers romance I have read so far. This series is getting better and better. The author set the bar so high and I can’t wait for Vaughn’s story. I really don’t know how his story is going to turn out. I just know his dark vibes are going to steal my soul.
Another addictive, edgy and angsty addition to this series.
I was excited about The Punk and the Plaything, I could not wait to get my hands on this book, and that cover is just awesome. since meeting Jameson Buchanan and Barbette Montgomery in The Peer and the Puppet you could say I was highly intrigued by both their characters and they definitely lived up to my expectations.
The plot goes from present to past, the moments Jamie and Barbette connected, their friendship and how it developed to more. Jamie’s visit was always temporary, he didn’t expect to find love, he wanted to stay in touch and return for his girl one day but when he returns sometime later you also get the return of an angry and scheming young man scorned when he also finds out his first love is now with his cousin.
Things aren’t always what they seem and there a lot of twists and turns before the punk and his plaything have a hea.
Recommended series. A second chance romance told in first person dual pov.
5 Stars
The Punk and The Plaything is the third book in the When Rivals Play series by author B.B Reid and tells the story of Jamie and Barbette (Bee). We know Jaime and Bee from the first book where they appeared as secondary characters. Their story begins, a few years ago, when they were only just kids.
Being Ever’s cousin, Jaime enters Bee, Ever, Vaughn and Jason’s group. Bee is disappointed, scared and jealous. She was their queen, their leader, and Jaime was a threat. Jaime was trouble. They were 12 years old, but Jaime looked much bigger than the rest of the 12-year boys. From the first moment they saw each other, they were attracted to each other, they fall in love and they didn’t realize. They were just kids, but they were growing without realizing it. They became teenagers.
Now, after 5 years, Jamie is full of anger at Bette’s betrayal. He wants revenge, but every time he wants to hate Bee, he ends up loving her ten times more. They are both tormented souls. Jaime became a heartless jerk because of Bee, and Bee an ice queen, because of Jaime, and her parents.
Barbette definitely wasn’t my favorite character when I first meet her in the first book of the series, The Peer and the Puppet. Honestly, I didn’t think I could end up loving her. Her character development was amazing. I loved her fire, her anger, her strength, and her sassiness. She transformed from a b…h to a great and loyal friend. She had grown and matured. Jaime was the best. I loved him from the first book. He was hilarious, hot, determined, possessive and demanding.
Usually, from a series, I always like more the first book. Only now, I loved this one the most. This is my favorite and Jaime & Bee were my favorite couple. What I loved the most, was that the main characters from the previous 2 books, The Peer and The Puppet and The Moth and The Flame, were present a lot and we got a good glimpse at how their lives are going.
I can’t wait for the next book…I am so curious and nervous about Vaughn and Tyra’s story.
I highly recommend!
DBO~Review by Mary~
Aaagh, the push pull, the love hate, had my angst loving heart loving every minute of Jamie and Bee’s story.
We’ve met both these characters before in the previous books in the series and I’ve been dying for Jamie’s book for ages. Bee, I was never really a fan off but I underestimated her and my god, she’s a fighter, I loved her!
We start with Jamie doing what he does best, plotting a scheme that will get Bee worked up. Jamie isn’t handling the Four/Ever/Bee situation and is hurt that Bee choose Ever and wants to make her pay for hurting him, all while still loving her!
Bee, although forced into doing something she doesn’t want to do, she fully commits knowing the hurt she is causing those around her, but to keep her safe she must. I loved the way she stood up for herself against Jamie.
Jamie *sigh* I don’t think I love a hero as much as I do him right now. He’s broody, calculating, stirs the shit between everyone, when you get past all of that, he’s gentle, sincere, funny, loving and caring. I loved his dirty mouth and possessiveness – the t-shirts !
Their story is slow burn and the angst will drive you crazy. I’m not always a fan of a story going back in time but these guys needed this and was great to see where those early relationships came from.
Reid definitely stepped up those steamy scenes in this book, that classroom scene!
If you are a lover of this series, this book is a must, especially since all the old characters pop up all over the place. Four and Ever will always be my favourite, but Jamie and Bee is a close second. I loved every minute of this story and can’t wait for the final book of the series.

This book grabbed hold of my heart and ripped it out of my chest… I was completely obsessed… GAH.
I don’t even know where the hell to begin with this… B.B. once again has delivered a masterpiece full of angst, heat, and drama and I was hanging on each world… I have always loved Jamie, and this book has made me fall in love with him even more… I was sure that was even possible…
Months ago, I fell in love with When Rivals Play series and I have been fixated on it ever since. I have read The Peer and The Puppet and The Moth and the Flame and then Evermore half a dozen times now so when I saw this coming up to release. I NEEDED IT. I freaking love Jamie from the moment he was introduced to this crazy plot and series. Ms. Reid did an exceptional job with his story and just did him justice…
This book is Jamie and Barbs story (Bee) and let me tell you now… You are NOT ready for this. I thought I was and it went and knocked me on my butt.
The Punk and The Plaything starts off showing us how these two came together. Jamie is determined to find out the secrets behind Bee and Ever’s relationship. He’s making it his mission… But what I was expecting it to be, is not what I got.. And that is not a bad thing! What unfolds within these pages had me well and truly bent out of shape, had my emotions on overdrive, had my mind reeling, my heart pounding and hot damn,… IT WAS HOT AF!
These two are an unlikely match, but yet they were perfect for each other. Both had guards up and lived with a world of lies and secrets, and it only got more intense the deeper I got into the plot. What I thought I knew, I didn’t… At all. What I expected, wasn’t what I got. What I got was EPIC… and I am not saying that lightly. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and had me strung the hell out. But I shouldn’t have been surprised. It is one of B.B. books and she never ceases to amaze me. I want to dive deeper into this story, but I don’t want to give this way. I believe you need to experience every bit of it to get the insanely intense emotions that come along with this story. This isn’t a light-hearted book. Oh hell no, it is heavy and it will stay with you long after you have read it.
It was extremely well written, full of angst, heat, passion, hatred, betrayal, secrets and lies and it’s guaranteed to have your emotions all over the place.
So. Freaking. Good. That’s what this book is. I was nervous, as any sane fangirl should be, about this book. Not because I didn’t have faith in the author, but because I already loved these characters SO much and had been dying for their story from the second I met them in The Peer and the Puppet. I am beyond happy to report that this book exceeded every single one of my expectations and left me feeling both happy and sated.
Jamie and Barbie are easily my favorite couple in this series. The hate is tangible, the mistrust and misunderstanding so realistic and painful and yet they simply belong together. They are meant to be, probably more than any other set of characters that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. This hate-to-love story has everything you could possibly want from this trope and then some more. It blends in with its classmates seamlessly while still managing to stand out. Now, that could be because the writing is so smooth and polished. It could be because the characters are perfectly crafted and tailored to really draw you in and make you root for them. But for me this book is perfection because it has that little bit of magic, that extra something that makes you want to do an instant reread upon completion.
Jamie Buchanan is a wild, rowdy, soulful troublemaker who has always belonged to one girl. He might be dead set on destroying her, but his heart never wavers. It’s always Bee for him. Barnett’s Montgomery is a beautiful, broken, terrified and trapped forced into living a destructive lie. She’s done nothing but deceive everyone around her, some to keep herself safe but mostly to protect the people she loves and cares about. When these two collide, which they do repeatedly in a spectacular fashion, they create fireworks and unparalleled passion. Their story isn’t just full of hot, steamy, messy rendezvous, it’s also packed with real soul-scorching romance that is sure to please readers everywhere.
I loved catching up with the gang and reading everyone’s continued stories while getting to know and love (even more) these two flawed characters. I especially loved the filthy scenes (the classroom one just about did me in) where all bets were off and you couldn’t possibly prepare to have your socks rocked quite so epically. Anyway, I’m so excited to read the final book in the series and see where Bebe takes us next. This was a blazing five star read and I would happily recommend it to anyone and everyone who will listen.
The Punk and The Play Thing was a hugely anticipated read for me and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, especially after seeing that cover.
With that said I was a bit disappointed because it took me a long to time to read this book and I usually inhale BB Reid’s books because she is a 1-click author.
My issue was I just couldn’t connect with Bee. I found her really weak and irritating for the first half of the book and I just wanted her to be a bit stronger. With that said, I loved Jamie, he was such an alpha.
I enjoyed the group scenes and seeing all of my favourites from previous books. I loved the amount of angst and the chemistry between the main characters and after about 50% in I just couldn’t put it down.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
4.5 stars
To be totally honest, I’ve wanted Jamie and Bee’s lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers second chance romance the most out of the crew from Blackwood Keeps. They had so much bitterness, love, and angst between them which just captured my attention from the beginning of the series. The Punk and the Plaything was amazingly well-written with a great balance of angst and sweetness. The plot was engaging and the pace was perfect. I was lucky I started this book on the weekend, because I just couldn’t put it down until I was finished.
The author did a phenomenal job in using flashbacks from the past to peel back the complex layers from Bee and Jamie. We had witness how life and harsh reality had separated and evolved two innocent teenagers into a cold hearted socialite and a rebellious playboy.
The angsty slow-burning romance between Jamie and Bee was heartbreaking. The love that they shared in their younger years was pure and acquitted. After their unwanted separation, they had both donned on masks to cover their hurt and brokenness. Their love was never lost and they hated each other and themselves because of that. Their passionate and intense reunion was inevitable and I couldn’t ask for a better HEA for them.
We got a little ahead on the backstory of Blackwood Keeps and the parentage of Ever played a major part of the plot. It was good to see some more appearance from the rest of the gang. I was so excited to get more Four and Ever. However, I still don’t really get the purpose of the steamy laboratory scene from graduation day. It’s totally hot AF and I’m not saying it was unwelcomed, but I just didn’t understand the why especially since it was initiated by Ever. I can see the raunchy Jamie starting this, but Ever?!
The mentioning of Vaughn and Tyra’s non-relationship in the epilogue served as a prelude to the next installment in the series. I can really sense all the angst seeping from this plot twist and I cannot wait for it.
I’m totally in love with this angsty second chance romance and would highly recommend it. Please be reminded even though each book in the When Rivals Play series is about a different couple, this is an interconnected series and should be read in order.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It happened on a Ferris wheel.
I can’t believe it’s over. This has been my most anticipated book of the year and I had to make myself take my time to savor every last word.
ARC kindly provided. All thoughts in this review are my own.
So real talk, if you know me then you know BB Reid is my favorite and how much I adore her Broken Love series and how Fear Me is my favorite book. I will NOT shut up about it. But Jameson Buchanan is top spot in my heart for a whole list of his own reasons and sitting just slightly above him is Barbette ‘Bee’ Montgomery. She is my favorite heroine to date from BB and if we’re being totally honest.. anyone else.
So this is book three in the When Rivals Play series and while these books are about different couples, they are interconnected standalone books and best enjoyed if read in order. Plus, you get a real feel for Jamie in the first two books and you don’t want to miss one single detail about him.
This book focused heavily on the romance but that isn’t to say it was all about the sex (which I wouldn’t have complained about) but book two told a lot of the underlying story and I was so pleased to get almost 100% Jamie and Bee. I thought the balance the author achieved was perfection as always. Also, when the bell finally did ding on the steam, BB brought the noise. Just sayin’. I really don’t want to give too much away because even if when you’ve read books one and two, this book is going to take you by surprise and you should just let it. This is some of BB’s best work. It is second chance and enemies to lovers and all the angst my poor little heart could hardly stand. BB not only did Jamie the justice that all of his fans were demanding, when she was done she said, now stand back and watch this.. and gave us Bee Montgomery. I am just so blown away by this story. I cannot wait to see everyone’s reactions. I think everyone will agree that this was just the best.
Not all heroes wear capes. I cannot wait to tell all of my bookish friends that they absolutely MUST pick this series up because everyone needs to experience love the way Jamie and Bee do.
Also, I need book four right meow.
The Punk and the Plaything by B.B. Reid is an enemies to lovers/second chance romance full of secrets, steam, and angst! The Punk and the Plaything is part of Reid’s When Rivals Play Series! The Punk and the Plaything has been one of my most anticipated reads! Just when I think that there’s no way I could love this series more we finally get the EPIC story of Jamie and Barbette that we have ALL been waiting for! As usual, B.B Reid did NOT disappoint!
Jamie and Barbette have been a part of the When Rivals Play Series since the very beginning so I was counting down the days until we would FINALLY find out the answers to all the WHYS!
Why did Jamie hate Bee so much even though we could tell there was a connection between them?
Why was Ever “dating” Bee when he was so clearly head over heels in love with Four?
WHY WHY WHY?!?!?
In The Punk and the Plaything, we go back and forth between the past and the present, delving into how Jamie and Bee’s relationship began and how it all fell apart, from both of their perspectives. We FINALLY have the answers to those questions and so much more!
You’re the lyrics to my song, Bette. I don’t exist without you.
When Jamie McNeara comes to Blackwood Keep to spend the Summer with his cousin Ever he’s introduced to Ever’s best friends, Vaughn and Bee, A.K.A Barbette.
The two are at each other’s throats from the moment they meet. But something changes between them and it doesn’t take long for Jamie and Bee to fall hard and fast for each other.
Jamie handed over his heart to Bee that summer and even though they were just young kids, Bee was twelve and Jamie was thirteen, barely understanding what love was but their feelings were well past the puppy love stage.
But unfortunately, Jamie could only spend his summers in Blackwood Keep before he had to go back home to Scotland for school.
But while Jamie is gone Barbette’s family falls into financial crisis and her father being the cruel man that he is, has no qualms about using Barbette for his financial gain… leaving Bee and Ever to make a decision neither wants to make.
When Jamie returns to Blackwood Keep he finds that the girl that owns his heart is not only dating his cousin but is engaged to him. He loses it.
You see love, you break love. That’s what you do
Five years later, after his father’s death, Jamie is back in Blackwood Keep and he’s staying for much longer than just the Summer this time around.
Jamie is determined to figure out the truth about Bee’s sudden change of feelings for him and her weird relationship with Ever. Not only does he want answers, but he also wants revenge on the girl that smashed his heart to pieces.
Not all is as it seems in Blackwood Keep and Jamie wants answers.
I wasn’t interested in falling for Barbette Montgomery ever again, but if I could make her fall for me… oh, what sweet revenge.
Gahhh I was all over the place reading this book! One minute I was laughing, the next minute I was in tears, the next minute I was all hot and bothered, the next minute I was about ready to break shit! Now, I’m just sad that I read it so fast and that it’s over!
Bee had wrecked me a thousand times over, and I was still weak as hell for that girl. My summer love, my ice queen.
Jamie was everything I thought he would be, PLUS SOME! If I loved him before, I completely fell head over heels for him now. We’ve always known Jamie as the cocky, foul-mouthed, trouble-making, flirt but he is so much more than the facade he puts on. I loved that The Punk and the Plaything was dual POV because getting a look into Jamie’s thoughts was EVERYTHING. Yeah, he was meaner than I don’t know what towards Bee, but he was hurting, much more than he ever let on. He may have wanted revenge but he just wanted her to feel the pain as much as he did. *Sigh*… you guys, I am head over heels in love with Jameson Buchanan.
And just before she could drown in my hate, I pulled her back again. It seemed I couldn’t hate Barbette without loving her twice as hard.
All through the When Rivals Play Series I have HATED Barbette, with a passion! I just did not like her and I hated that she continued to cause problems in Four and Ever’s relationship. My entire opinion of her changed with this book. The more we learned about Bee’s home life, the more I felt bad for hating her character for so long. Her life was nowhere near as easy as I once thought it was and reading her story reminded me that even in books everything isn’t always as it seems.
I was a queen without a crown. A fraud.
Barbette’s life was constantly controlled by her parents, she either does what she’s told to do or she faces the consequences. I instantly warmed to her once we got a look inside her head, but I completely fell for Bee when she finally started standing up for herself. There were a couple of times I wanted her to stand up to Jamie more, but she knew that she had broken him a long time ago, so she knew that he had to process and deal with the hurt and the pain the way he needed to process and deal and she let him because ultimately no matter what happened between them, she loved him.
Jamie and I were poison with no cure in sight.
Throughout the When Rivals Play Series we have always seen the sexual tension between Bee and Jamie, always knowing that there was SOMETHING more between the two of them then we were aware. But the more we learned of their past, the more convinced I was that these two belong together. The angst of their separation, the need they both felt when they were in a room together. *Sigh* I loved the back and forth between them, the more they tried to prove they hated each other, the more you could see how much they actually cared for one another. Even when Jamie was being cruel towards her, it ultimately was because he was hurt. He wanted her, he loved her, and he couldn’t understand how she could go from loving him to being engaged to his cousin. The steam… Oh my, oh my, the steam!!! We all know that Jamie is a habitual flirt, well let me tell you that boy has a mouth on him that could make a nun’s panties wet! The steamy scenes between them are OFF THE FREAKING CHARTS!
Most of the time, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to fuck her, kill her, or fall to my knees and beg her to take me back.
As usual, the secondary characters brought so much MORE to this story. I loved the scenes where they were all together, Four and Ever, Wren and Lou, Vaughn and Tyra, Jamie and Bee, just hanging out watching movies and having a couple of drinks over at Wren and Lou’s house. *Sigh*… I really love these characters. I don’t think I’ll EVER be ready to say goodbye to Blackwood Keep. I adored seeing that Jamie and Lou’s friendship was still going strong and how jealous Wren still is.
I also want to know that in the next place you call home, you’re safe. I can’t promise that we’ll always get it right, but I want nothing less than my world revolving around you.
Okay… no matter how much it pains me to say this and I wasn’t going to mention it because I LOVE Reid and I LOVE this series and whatever she decides to do with it, but after saying that, this wouldn’t’ be an HONEST review if I didn’t. Although I gave it six-stars, there were a few things I wasn’t feeling. Chapter twenty-one… although it was HOT, it was most definitely out of character for Ever and for Jamie really. Ever is VERY possessive of Four, he has been this entire series. So for him to all of a sudden be okay with that (not once, but twice!) I just don’t feel like that is something that his character would be okay with, AT ALL. Also, what happens IN that scene… and again apparently in the fade to black second scene, I just don’t see Four being “THAT” girl. And the “reason” WHY it happened… because they OWED them? I don’t know it just was all a little too weird and kind of felt thrown in for the shock value maybe? I’m trying so hard not to spoil anything so I’m just going to leave it at that. Again, I love B.B Reid, and I LOVE everything the woman has written so if she felt like her characters would do stuff like that, who am I to say otherwise?
You’re mine. You’ve always been. You always will be.
Jamie and Barbette’s story was EVERYTHING that I had hoped it would be, and more! But we aren’t done with Blackwood Keep just yet, there are still plenty more secrets to unravel and The Prince and The Pawn is up next! I’m already DYING for it even though after that epilogue… I’m a little nervous. But I knew that everything couldn’t just go peachy for Tyra and Vaughn, his father and that lifestyle… I knew that Vaughn’s story was going to be dark but I don’t believe what they are saying happened, actually happened. I think it’s just a way to protect her. Although you never know when it comes to B.B Reid, either way, I can’t wait to find out!
How could I resist the boy who brazenly wore his heart on his sleeve so that everyone could see it beat only for me?
I am completely in love with the Blackwood Keep world and all the characters that make up that world. Although I love Ever, Jamie has always had my heart! The Punk and the Plaything didn’t just meet my expectations, it surpassed each and every single one of them! If you haven’t started this series yet, I don’t even know what you are doing with your life, but you NEED to start ASAP!! The whole When Rivals Play Series are MUST-READS and I HIGHLY recommend them to ANYONE who enjoys new adult bully romances filled with steam, angst, and all kinds of secrets. Every book in this series has a little something that romance lovers could/would enjoy!
All I ever wanted was to be bad with you.
.
The flow between these books has been seamless. I really appreciate the planning that BB Reid has done to span story arcs, character development, etc between multiple books. These are someone stand-alone (even though I don’t recommend it) books, so that flow between books is done skillfully.
Jamie caught my attention right away in the first book. I wanted so much of him in that book even though I knew it wasn’t his story. I couldn’t wait for him to get his, and it was everything I wanted – and then some.
I knew Barbette was probably misunderstood, and boy was she ever. Everything we found out about her broke my heart. I am really happy we got to dive deeper into her character. After all of that, there is no way she would belong with anyone but Jamie.
This book left me dying for the next one way more than the other two books. She left me wanting to the point of legit dying. It’s dying…only worse. Trust me. So ready for more!!
This book was legit one of the most anticipated reads of 2019, and BB did not disappoint.
When I started reading the series I always saw Bee as a selfish person, or at least that was what she wanted to show the world..and although we had glimpses of her on the previous two books, this is certainly where we can see who she really is, the struggle and the pain she had to endure from a really young age thanks to those hateful parents of her, who only treat her like a pawn. The author shows us parts of the past that really gave us a perspective of her life and the boys. It hurt to see her like that but I really admire her, she’s so strong, yet she didn’t know it until Jamie. This guy, oh my, beautiful, a ‘punk’, a rebel, reckless yet with such a huge heart, who was broken because of secrets and misunderstands in the past.
I couldn’t have loved this couple much more than I already do. They are perfect and complete each other like, the chemistry between them was fire since the very first moment he laid eyes on Bee and after that, their story was one of those which you can see the finale, like those fairytales but with the difference that the princess saves herself.
Ahhh!! I have been a big fan of B.B. Reid’s When Rivals Play series for such a long time. For that reason I was uber excited to read the third installment in the series as Jamie and Barb have been such key players in the previous books. The Punk and The Plaything was EVERY-DAMN-THANG under the sun and more!! It was deeply emotional and passionate and such an amazing addition to the series. Reid did not pull her punches as it was filled to the brim with shady secrets and shocking revelations that I for one could not get enough! It was a phenomenal story with a lovestory that could rival the ages! Pure Angsty Perfection!
Without giving away any spoilers, The Punk and The Plaything tells the story of Jamie and Barb (Bee) and how they came to be at this point in their lives. The story opens up where Jamie is steadfastly determined to figure out the truth about Barb and her relationship with Ever. But what follows is a deeply tumultuous and angsty rollercoaster ride of epic proportions. This story was glorious and sexy af but more than anything it was an emotional story of two people in love with a wall of secrets and lies between them. I was hung up on every word and never wanted it to end!
Overall, this story was incredible. Jamie was everything I wanted and more. His camaraderie with his friends and the banter between him and Bee was fiery and always kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved their spitfire back and forth exchanges more than anything because it showed how much they really cared for one another. Bee, in my opinion was perfect. She hid behind a facade to protect both Jamie and her heart from further pain. I love how this book provided a much needed look in her character and showcases an added depth to her. She is more than a pretty princess she shows the world and I for one am ready to join her girl gang. This was another outstanding book by B.B. Reid and I for one am dyinggg for Vaughn and Tyra. Bring on The Prince and The Pawn! 5 stars! ~Ratula
After reading and following Bebe Reid from Fear Me till now, I knew that I needed to read slow. Why you ask? Because she has a penchant of throwing Easter eggs like NO OTHER into her story that I have honestly missed on my first read. So this time, I took my time to read it.
Jamie hates Barbie. Why? Because she is engaged to be married to his cousin. He feels betrayed and in the dark about the whole situation. He wants his revenge. Ruin her before she can start a brand new life with someone else. But there is more to the story than that. More to Barbette than that. Bebe takes us to the core to who Bee was, how Jamie’s Bette became Barbie. Reading her story broke my heart. The silence she had to live through and the torture she had to endure. She was the pariah of Brynwood Academy, but she still kept her head high and showed us the Queen she is.
Jamie the Punk, with his tats and swagger was someone I was looking forward to. He was the bad boy of the group, not giving an ish about what the population of Blackwood Keep thought of him. His connection to Bee and the heartbreak he went through and then his attempts to get her back kept me highly entertained and rooting for them.
Now to the core of why it got a 3 star.
Bebe’s writing style is amazing. She is able to create such vivid visuals that you feel submerged into the story. That being said, the overall voice of the story changed to what was in book 1+2. It became more of ‘lemme see what I can through in to shock my readers’ type of read. The whole foursome and the F/F element didn’t go with the characters. And honestly wasn’t so necessary for the book. If Bebe wants to write them, more power to her, but it just ruined the good thing that was going on in the book/series. And with Ever’s possessiveness, it was a complete no-no for me.
The only thing I’m looking forward to is Vaughn’s story. And after him cheating on Tyra, I hope he realizes that there is someone out there stronger to handle his ass.
I really didn’t think there was any way The Punk and the Plaything could ever live up to my expectations. I mean the previous two books in this series blew my mind. I was obsessed. No way could Ms Reid do anything to make this book even better right? Wrong! This is one of those series that you think can’t get any better but with each book it does.
I’ve been dying for Bees story from the start. I had this mental picture of how I imagined she was going to be and she was so far from what I was expecting that I couldn’t help but love her.
Jamie is everything I wanted and hoped for and even more if that’s possible. There’s so much more to him and I don’t think it’s possible for me to love him more than I do.
This is yet again another brilliant book from B.B. Reid and I can’t wait for more from this series.
Great book, fantastic characters, LOVE When Rivals Play series!! Jamie lives up to the title punk not to mention a stinker, he’s the guy you end up loving even if you want to dislike him, Bee is a awesome herione, she’s one tough gal. If you love angst and out of your comfort zone this book is a must read!
So B.B. had totally it set up in the other books where I was absolutely, unequivocally NOT a Barbette ”Bee” fan. I would go as far as to say I despised her character. I didn’t like her friendship with Ever, I didn’t trust her, just didn’t care for her. I started opening up to her a little in TMATF, but still. Now… I absolutely love, like fist pumps in the air rooting for her, she’s my new BFF. I’m a “Bee-liever”!
Gah!! Jamie, oh Jamie! His character has been one of my tops from day one. There is something about him. His playful personality, that don’t GAF attitude he puts off, when really he’s one of the most caring people out there. He’s giving off this players vibe and he’s borderline cruel to Bee, but really he’s just protective of his heart and sweet gooey center, afraid he will be exposed to hurt and risk heartbreak again if he lets his guard down.
“You kiss me with your cruel words and caress me with your pain.”
Told in alternating POV’s we go back and forth between their senior year of high school and their pre-teen years. We get in-depth looks into the what let Jamie and Bee to be the characters they are today.
“It’s not your hate that kills me but the love I see shining through.”
It also gives us better understanding why Jamie feels
the way he does, and we understand what it was like for Bette growing up and what led to some of the decisions that she and Ever made and why Four would have went along with them. We get to see the story of Jamie and Bee childhood friends falling in love and the hurts, secrets, misunderstandings and devastation that come after. BEE AND JAMIE ARE EVERYTHING!
While I’m not going to give away any of the details of this book because #SpoilersSuck. I will say I’m pretty sure this one might be my favorite of all. Because…Jamie! Tattoos, piercings, attitude and heart. I mean hot dang, y’all! And Bee, she’s beautiful and sassy and sweet. She’s loving and as it turns out unselfish. This is one of my most favorite series. I cannot recommend it enough. If you haven’t started it. TODAY IS THE DAY! Pick up this Bully/Friends to Lovers Favorite. I would give it all the stars in the sky if I could.
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book, but couldn’t wait to buy a copy of every format of this book!!

– I have to add a sixth star for my blog rating cause I just gotta! This is like a Bully/ Friends to lovers romance all in one! Jamie is legit! He’s the most perfect book boyfriend. Tattoos and piercings. He’s just delicious! Plus all your favorite characters are back!
-Holy Hades!!Jamie and Bee are pure fire in the sheets! Nuff said
Cliffhanger Warning-No cliffhanger! IFloved this!! #Perfection
This book was epic! It was everything I hoped for and more! I’m so happy Jamie and Bee got what they wanted in the end. What a rollercoaster of emotions for those 2. It was a long ride that for sure. I can’t wait to see what comes next for all of them when we get Vaughn’s story. I have a feeling it’s going to be very twisted!
