Uncomfortable with the fit of her life, now that she’s in the middle of it, Nan gets into her car and just goes–driving across the country on back roads, following the moon; and stopping to talk to people. Through conversations with women, men, with her husband through letters, and with herself through her diary, Nan confronts topics long overdue for her attention. She writes to her husband … and says things she’s never admitted before; and she discovers how the fabric of her life can be reshaped into a more authentic creation.
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Elizabeth Berg’s Once Upon a Time, There Was You.

Having just turned 50 this book jumped out at me. It was amazing! The emotions and feelings that Nan has are so true to life, I felt like she and I could be best friends. It really made me feel better about everything. So worth reading at any age!
It speaks to a woman’s desire to take a break from the every day and carve a place for herself.
Every line of this book is truth, from beauty and poetry to a raw, sandpaper reality. Change is part of life, but acceptance and adjustment take real work, and sometimes, never come. How many times have you just wanted to leave everything behind? The Pull of the Moon chronicles an escape and rediscovery that so many of us crave. I’m coming late …
Although not my usual book choice, this is a well-written book, and it’s an interesting story, told through a series of journal entries and letters during a soul-seeking road trip of sorts. I could relate in some ways to the main characters, and Berg’s descriptions are lovely, honest, and often so painfully accurate that I could cringe while still …
This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors. It pulls at my heart, and reminds me to take the time to appreciate the little things in life.
Every mother should read this book when they turn 50. I’ve read it several times and love it more each time.
This is one of my favorite books of all time! I think every woman who is a wife and mother has at one time or another felt like doing what the main character in this book did.
Very relatable, funny and thought provoking
I could relate to the protagonist’s journey in finding herself at this new chapter of her life.
Actually I found this slow and draggy. May never finish.
This is an amazingly open and honest look at a woman going through a mid-life crisis. Gave me perspective and appreciation for my life, both in seeing the commonality as well as the differences between me and Nan. This would be a good book for a group to discuss if they want to know each other better.
One of her best
This book is one of those books that you should give to a woman you love on her 45th Birthday. Wise, warm and wonderful it reflects the conflicts that aging women feel about their lives, their loves and themselves. Beautiful through and through with characters that warm your heart. In fact, within the first chapter I found myself wishing that Nan …
Very fast read for a lady who dreams of running away from home at least monthly for most of her life!
I read everything Berg writes. She can hold your heart in her hands.
Nice escapist read, but, also thought provoking. Made me happy about my life choices ( very different from protagonist).
Love Elizabeth Berg and her characters.
too slow at the beginning
Heroine did what many women want to do – get away from their mundane lives. Well written. Easy to read. Engaging charachters
Wish I knew what happened after the last page…
