The Protector is Jane Singleton and Chance (Midas) Evans’ story and is book 2 in this series. After reading The Savior, which is book 1, I was really looking forward to getting into book 2, which doesn’t disappoint. There is a lot of nail-biting action, as well as a lot of sexy between Jane and Chance. There are also some of the best “romance” lines from Chance to Jane that absolutely melted my heart. I loved these two characters, as they were strong and very likeable. The plot was easy to read and flowed really well. There are some really bad people in this book who are “don’t live in the real world” crazy but they added so much to the story. I’ve read all of this author’s books and this series reminds me of her early books which I dearly love and have enjoyed reading more than once. I’m definitely looking forward to The Survivor, which is book 3 in this series.
In my opinion The Protector started off with a lot of promise then lost some of it’s uff in the middle then it was back at the end. It felt like two different books. It started with a lot of action which I come to expect from Cristin Harber but I could not see where the book was going once everyone was home. Let’s just say I never saw what was coming, so I give a well done to Cristin Harber. Chance and Jane were both very insecure which got a little on my nerves but when I looked past that I liked Chance and Jane. Chance and Jane were a lot a like when you got to looking at them. In my opinion Chance and Jane’s protective sides were admirable. Overall I liked The Protector. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Wow, What An Awesome Story!
A captivating little boy, a devoted nanny, and dangerously insane parents set the stage for the entrance of a modern day warrior, and boy does Chance Evans fit that role to a tee! I loved every emotionally thrilling second of The Protector and I can’t wait to read more of the ACES book series.
5 stars
Jane is a nanny for a very wealthy, crazy family ( the Thanes). When the mother and father plan a trip to Syria with their young son and Jane, they end up being abducted. Chance is in the Aces group which is part of Titan and are stationed in Abu Dubai. Chance and his team are sent in to rescue them but Jane is left behind. Chance promises her he will be back, she just has to stay alive until then. Once back in the States, Jane goes back to her job believing she’d never see Chance again. But Chance is requested to join the Thanes because of security issues, and he gets to see Jane again. The craziness ratchets up with the Thanes and Chance will do whatever is necessary to keep Jane safe.
Excellent story with humor, action, and sexy times. Will leave you on the edge of your seat.
I’m freaking TF out right now.
I just finished with The Protector and, whew buddy, that was intense. And deep. And sad. And hott. And amazing.
And I need a drink.
If you’re not a Titan/Delta/Aces reader already, no biggie, this novel totally stands on its own. But if you are Team Titan, you’re gonna be freaking TF out too. Cherry bombs and Easter eggs everywhere. Familiar faces and catch phrases had me SQUEALING and my husband looking at me like I’m a freak.
But on top of that we get introduced to some new faces too! I’m loving Chance a.k.a “Midas” and the rest of the ACES team we get to meet. Some time has gone by since The Savior and we are getting see the team grow and Boss Man bristle.
I am such a Cristin Harber fangirl for life. As always, she brings us badass characters and a tense plot. Harber brings the heat. From gunfire and rooftop helo extractions to steamy truck windows, the explict fire burns on every page. Consider those your warnings. :*

Midas the Protector
The next book in the ACES series is finally here Jane gets a job with the Thanes and finds herself in Syria with them looking after their four year old, Teddy. Unfortunately, things take a turn when they are abducted and Titan brings their men in to rescue the hostagesJane never suspected that this trip would be a turning point for her
I love all things Titan by Cristin, but I have to say this story was good but it could’ve been better. Overall the storyline was good, characters were good but I found heaps of simple errors that should’ve been picked up in editing and truly can’t figure out why they weren’t….and if you know my reviews this is something I don’t normally nitpick about but it’s probably what took me so long to get into the book, but once I did it flowed better and I could focus on the story and my absolute frustration with the Thanes
Fantastic!
This new Aces series is a hit! This story is intense throughout the entire book. There are a few twists going on here that keep you riveted as well as the details surrounding the locations and people involved.
Chance is a motivated and dedicated man intent on doing his job with or without backup. When he makes a promise, he keeps it. He is still getting to know Boss Man and the rest of the team but he has no doubt, they have his back when it’s needed. I love Jared’s growly disposition knowing from previous stories that he can be an intense and fierce warrior as well as a hot, sexy, man with a soft heart when his wife and kids are involved.
Jane seems to have the sweetest job ever on the surface, but in reality, it’s the job from hell. Jane is the nanny that truly loves the child she is employed to take care of. She will risk her own life for the sake of keeping Teddy safe. Jane has more obstacles to overcome than she realizes during her journey from the desert of Syria to her relationship with Chance and her employment with Dax & Gigi.
Jane and Chance have the most unusual journey that most people could never fathom. I love how Chance sees Jane as the person that she is inside and not the outside appearance. Beauty is definitely skin deep and Chance knows this well. These two selfless people learn this deeply about each other along the way when dealing with the gross wealth that the Thane’s take for granted based on their looks and social presence.
This story will keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat. There are many twists and turns that are pivotal but yet quite surprising. I was very entertained on the excesses the Thane’s found necessary to their happiness and very existence. This book is fast paced, a must read and a joy to read! I loved it!
The Protector is book two of Cristin Harber’s new Aces series. Both books can be read as standalone titles but if you love a good series like I do, I highly recommend both books.
If you’ve followed any of my reviews, you have learned that romantic suspense is my all-time favorite romance genre. And Cristin Harber has been one of my favorite romantic suspense authors for a long time. It’s been a while since book one in the Aces series was released, so when I had the chance to read The Protector, I absolutely jumped at the chance. Let me just say…it was totally worth the wait!
Jane and Chance meet in the worst place possible. They literally live on opposite sides of the globe, so when all the dust settles from their time in the desert, neither one thinks any kind of relationship between them will work. But the heart wants what the heart wants, so when Chance gets the opportunity to work for the same high profile couple that Jane works for, he takes it despite not caring for the kind of work required of him. Because he can’t stop thinking about her. And he really misses her. Jane is thrilled to have him close by once again. But neither one could have ever anticipated the roller coaster ride they are about to embark on.
NICUnurse’s Rating: This book took me on a really, really wild ride! And just when I thought I had the ending all figured out, the author threw a crazy curve ball I certainly didn’t see coming. If I say much more, it’s totally going to spoil this book for you, and I really don’t want to do that. There is SO much in this book. And it’s all so worth your time and money to get lost in this world she’s created that takes place before her Titan and Delta series books. If you’re a military and/or romantic suspense lover, you do NOT want to miss The Protector.
I give The Protector by Cristin Harber 5 out of 5 stars for that ending alone!
Wow! Growly Jared I had missed you. This is suspenseful throughout, you feel the tension building to something but gosh this completely knocked me off my seat at the climax, I so didn’t see that happening. Poor Teddy I felt for that little soul I’m so glad he had his aunt and Jane he really needed that love. Jane was a fighter and was never going down all the while she could breath and she was loyal, understanding Chance and knowing the person he was deep down. I’m glad the teams had his back when it was needed most. Exciting and action packed with a fast flow, this is a little more complex than it appears with way more going on in the underlying plot. Look below the surface. This couple were seriously not right. I feel privaledged to have read this and loved it so much, the appearances of a few Titan favourites were an added bonus.
Cristin Harber has done it again. Another great book that I didn’t want to put down. The Protector could apply to either of the main characters, which is great. Chance “Midas” is the Aces team member that rescues Jane, whom he dubs “Mary Poppins”, after Jane’s employers decided that Syria was a great place to have a so-called family trip. The only reason that Jane stays at her job is for Teddy, the little boy that is her charge. She takes it upon herself to give him a sense of normalcy and love, because his parents sure don’t. After life resumes as best it can, they’re brought together again. Jane’s employers however are just as crazy as they were before, and it only gets worse. There were times that I wondered about their mental state, and it was definitely more than once. Twists and turns abound, and just when you think things might be ok, nope! All aboard the train to Crazy Town. Of course, everything works out the way that it should in the end.
Little glimpses and cameos of Team Titan here and there made me giggle. I just love stuff like that.
The Protector delivers an unforgettable story with an abundance of heart palpitations!
Going seamlessly from a war-torn desert rescue to the ritzy glamour of the rich-and-famous, you’re kept on your toes and encountering all the feels. Mixing fear with hope and laughter, chaos with nuggets of truth and adventure, the hits keep coming and force the pages to keep turning.
Chance and Jane both embody so many of my favorite hero/heroine characteristics, making it easy to identify and connect with Jane and swoon and fall for Chance.
I adored how the protective theme was presented in several ways – unique spins just as each person is unique. All have the same heart and motivation, just the actions themselves are different.
There’s also another theme weaved into the story that touched me deeply, and I don’t want to ruin the impact of it by mentioning it fully here. Just know…. it’s one we’ve all struggled with and need to hear the truth over and over again. And the way it was presented in this story…. pure beauty!
Chance and Jane’s story is most assuredly a favorite one that I look forward to revisiting time and time again. Not only is it an excellent addition to the Aces series (which I also adore book 1), but it compliments the Titan world perfectly while still being fully stand-alone.
This is not a story to be missed; fans of military/romantic suspense will not be disappointed, and fans of Cristin Harber will be delighted to discover everything they’ve come to expect from her storytelling.
If you’re new to Cristin Harber, this book is a perfect choice to start with.
These people are freaking insane. That is all there is to it. My jaw was in a state of perpetual drop throughout this book. How on earth could anyone treat a child that way? And that final ending twist just made me want to strangle them.
I love that Chance took a chance with Jane. Even with the chaos, they found time to get to know each other. They didn’t hold anything back. And the fact that he bonded with Teddy made him such a lovable alpha hero. I mean, who doesn’t love a strong burly guy who can entertain a kid and think nothing of it. My ovaries were ready to explode. If Jane ever decides she’s done with him, send him my way.
And the special treat was seeing Winters and Cash. Although this story takes place before any of the Titan books, it is always a pleasure seeing the boys in action.
Now Boss Man just needs to figure out who the jokester is in his Aces Alphas. I have my suspicions, but only time will tell.
This is only the third book I have read by this author, and I have to say, I have become a fan forever.
This second, stand alone, book in the ACES series, belongs to Chance Evans and Jane Singleton.
Chance is part of the new ACES group, now stationed in Abu Dhabi. Jane, is a nanny to a sweet boy whose parents are wealthy, only interested in their popularity and will do anything to attract attention of the media and paparazzi. On their way to Abu Dhabi they get abducted and ACES is hired to rescue them.
During this rescue, Chance meets Jane , whom he aptly names Mary Poppins/MP. She will do anything to protect her charge, Teddy. Even if it means risking her life. That alone, impresses Chance.
Circumstances brings them together and a relationship develops. But all is not smooth sailing as some characters have ulterior motives, bad guys abound, and the damsel in distress is a strong woman whose values and care will impress us all.
The plot is engaging from the start as you will fall in love with the main characters.
Aside from the plot, it’s also a story about family dynamics, how we perceive ourselves and how the actions and words of parents do in fact affect the individual even when they are adults.
I am looking forward to the next book in ACES.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
