I’ve been excited about this book ever since it was announced. Then I followed Jodi Ellen’s Malpas FB page and stalked the photo shoot for the cover, which I absolutely LOVED! Needless to say, the anticipation was there.
Camille Logan is labeled as the rich daddy’s girl. People immediately think she’s a spoiled brat without even getting to know her. So when Jake Sharp is hired to protect her, he is absolutely surprised to see that she’s not what everyone stereotypes her as. He soon realizes that the beauty she carries is not only on the outside but bursting from the inside as well. Thus begins his internal battle of not letting his emotions get in the way of his job. Will he be able to separate his feelings or will Camille Logan be the one to break his barriers?
I’m going to be honest and start with the fact that I did have difficulty with the flow of the writing in the beginning. It felt a little choppy at times and it did take me a while to get used to it. With that being said, the story itself and particularly Jake Sharp made me completely forget about it and I became engrossed.
I’m pretty sure I fell hard for Jake. As I sit here to write this review and look back at my notes, almost all of them are something he said or did. There’s just something about him. He’s brooding, haunted by his past, full on alpha and fiercely protective. He’s also very loyal and vulnerable. When you get to see the side of him that starts falling for Camille, it’s just swoon worthy at its best.
“I’ll do anything to keep her in my life. Even if that means laying myself bare to her. Even if it means losing my sanity.”
Camille Logan turned his world upside down.
“You calm me, regardless of the fact that you’ve actually made my life the most chaotic it’s ever been. You’ve found me, despite the fact that I never wanted to be found.”
Everything about these two finding each other is perfect. I especially love the banter between the two of them. Camille definitely gave Jake a run for his money. She’s feisty and fiercely independent. She’s also very compassionate, loyal and loving. As they fight against their feelings for each other, they form this back and forth banter that I just couldn’t get enough. I love the chase. I love the push and pull that they gave each other.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I hope everyone falls for Jake like I did. I will be recommending this book to everyone, wishing I could feel the first time experience all over again when they read it. Well done!
