A heart never forgets a story and mine felt like it had been here before. The Proper Princess is a compilation of schoolgirl fantasy and mature adult heartache. McClone flexes her strongest muscle with an emotional sonnet inspired by a childhood fairytale that blossoms into a captivating, yet painful reality. Madeline and Enrique are living on a cloud that could collapse at any moment. Can hope help to break their fall?
This book is deliciously romantic. I love Melissa McClone’s royalty books, and this is one of her best. Madeline and Enrique are wonderful, rich characters. You’ll love it, too! Highly recommend!
I have loved this series and think this particular title is my favorite! Loved getting to know previous characters better and meet new ones. The characters in this authors stories are believable and easily relatable. Even though the story deals with royals they still suffer from some of the same insecurities as us mere mortals. Here’s hoping there will be more stories to this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
My favorite part of this book was watching Enrique change his behavior from being an arrogant prince in the last book, who only cared about himself and believing he was unlovable because those were his mom’ last words to him when she left. He was only eight years old.
In this book his character grew into a strong, caring man capable of loving Madeleine only she was still in love with her prince that had died before her wedding day. Madeleine is a beautiful character who gets to find love again. She has a beautiful heart capable of loving more than one person. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Madeleine and Enrique had an interesting marriage arrangement in The Proper Princess, book three in Melissa McClone’s Her Royal Duty series. After the death of her fiancé and first love, Princess Madeleine was resigned to the fact that she would end up having an arranged marriage; possibly being used as a pawn to save her country. When she meets her handsome intended she wonders what she had agreed to. Crown Prince Enrique did not give off a good first impression in meeting Madeleine. He was way too strong, said the wrong things, forgot to think before talking and fumbled with apologies; being more court jester than Prince Charming. Enrique tries to present a confident prince but he still has a way to go. He might be less self-centered but he is trying to do better for his country, for himself, and for his future wife. Enrique knows that Madeleine might not love him right now, if ever, but he will do whatever he can to woo her and maybe win her heart; at least get her to like him. As often happens when two people are so overwhelmed with feelings and caring for one another, they forget to talk before making assumptions. Before Madeleine and Enrique can have their happy ever after they must accept that they care for each other, be honest with each other, and communicate.
Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Madeleine and Enrique a chance for happiness, love and a future together. I found myself falling in love with Madeleine and Enrique as I got to know them better and understand their insecurities and needs. I highly recommend this sweet book, The Proper Princess.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
A Perfect Match!! I started to love Enrique in the previous story and I am soooo glad he finally got his HEA!! Madeleine was a perfect match for Enrique and he was a perfect match for her. Both were at a time of change in their lives and they managed to help each other in different and important ways. I loved the honesty and open communication they both gave each other and I could feel that with every word written. I HIGHLY recommend this story to all those that believe love happens when you least expect it to.
This is a great book that has wonderful characters that are well developed. Enrique and Madeleine both have issues that they manage to help each other work thru. They are perfect for each other. This is a well written story and I loved reading it.
This is the third book in the series. We got to know Enrique in the previous book with his brother. I’m glad he gets his story and a HEA. Though it’s not an easy road to the end, but it’s one that is so worth it. Madeleine breaks your heart with her backstory so I was rooting for her to get a HEA she deserves. Enrique is going to surprise her in a good way. The things that she heard about him are not very flattering and their first meeting didn’t make a great first impression. The more she gets to know Enrique the more she will soon realize there is more to him then meets the eye. He has so many swoon worthy moments in this book, but none better then the very end in the epilogue. I enjoyed the previous books in this series and this one was no different. Enrique and Madeleine will instantly capture your heart and get you invested in their story. This is a book I gobbled up.
Who is Madeline-Victoria of Gaullia? What is going on in her life at the beginning of the story? Who is she arranged to wed? Why? Who is Louie? What happenes over the coruse of this story is a bit of a tear-jerker, a cause for laughter, a cause for the reader to go ‘awwww’ and a time to feel warm fuzzies. Not necessarily in that order! Will this story end up with an HEA? You are goig to need to read to find out. This is the third story in the series. Make sure you read them in order! So much better that way!

So I was so happy to see Enrique get a second chance. I just wasn’t expecting it to have a sweet feel about it. The Enrique from book 2 is not the same man. He has a heart and compassion. He has learned how to live and not work so hard. His brother and Jules had a hand in this. Madeline is a sweet girl. She wants to do right by her parents and country. She is also hurting and grieving a loss. She agreed with the arraigned marriage just never thinking she’d open her heart to love again. Prince Louie was her love and her heart is shattered now. Enrique is patient with her and in turn allows her to see a different side of him. He’s known as a workaholic and always doing what’s best for his country. This one has a different twist to it. Yes they get married but at the same time he shows he has a heart and compassion. He shows Madeline how much he really loves her. I really enjoyed this book and seeing Prince Niko, Princess Izzy, Jules and Alejandro again was really fun. They brought a lot into this book!
The Proper Princess by Melissa McClone
Princess Madeleine and Crown Prince Enrique are the main characters. Enrigue is not comfortable talking to people so he is always making mistakes in the way he is talking. Madeline is still in love with her dead fiancée. They start spending time together and getting to know each other and they fall in love. I really enjoyed this book. I had a hard time putting this book down. it was so good.
I was given a complimentary copy of the book. and I wanted to do a review for the book.
This is the third book and last book in the Her Royal Duty Series. This Series is beautifully written, and romantic. I love the covers. Enrique and Madeleine’s story is sweet, romantic, and beautiful. I love the ending. The secondary characters are great, and I love to see Julianna, Alejandro, Izzi and Niko again. I enjoyed my reading and I highly recommend this story and Series. Maybe you can read each story as a standalone, but believe me, you don’t want to miss one book in this sweet and romantic Royal Series. I would love to have it on audiobook. Now, I’m looking forward for more books written by Melissa McClone.
To be honest,I didn’t like this book very much.I had the same problem here as in the second book and that is a heroine who was raised to do her duty, but secretly she wants to rebel. The problem is,she can’t rebel on her own and it’s always someone else who does the rebelling in her name.
Mads knows that arranged marriage is awaiting her, after all she is a princess.Problem is,five years ago Mads fiance,Louie died and she is not able to get over him.Obviously, she needs to get married so her country would be saved, but Prince Enrique is not what she expected.
If you read the second book in the series,Not-So-Perfect-Princess,you’ve met Enrique. He is a future king and one of the most annoying heroes.
Without giving away the plot,my problem with this book is that Mads was just so confusing. She really didn’t know what she wanted and her behavior was s annoying at times.Enrique on the other hand was,for the lack of the better word, stiff. He is a prince and yet he has no idea how to hold a proper conversation with another person.
And just like in the past two books, the end was rushed.
I loved Enrique!! He was so adorable fumbling around trying to impress & woo Madeleine! While Madeleine annoyed me at first I ended up loving her almost as much as I did Enrique! It was so hard to put down the book and deal with the real world!
Another winner!
Now it’s Prince Enrique’s turn. And he’s really trying! But it’s hard, winning Princess Madeleine over. Her heart is guarded. And I have to admit; I was kind of guarded about him too, because of book 2, but he managed to win me over. And that took some skill on the author’s side, I can tell you! But what we have here now, is a wonderful story of learning, changing, loving. And I must say, I loved Madeleine! This was another winner!
The Proper Princess by Melissa McClone is book Three in the Her Royal Duty Series. This is the story of Princess Madeleine and Crown Prince Enrique. I have read the previous books which they do touch on the introduction of these characters and of course added to my enjoyment of this book. But with that said, I do feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Madeleine’s fiancé past away so now she knows that she will be settling in to a marriage of convince not love. Enrique knows only proper ways to act that sometimes lead to award encounters but he is working to change his way to be more relaxed instead of stiff but sometimes is causes for awkwardness. Enrique does want to win Madeleine’s heart so that they can have a marriage of love and tries to woo her but sometimes it doesn’t work as he wants.
Can these two find the ending they both want? Enjoyed their story and this series!
Princess Madeline is still heartbroken five years after her fiancé’s death. Now circumstances are such that an arranged marriage is necessary to save their kingdom.
Crown Prince Enrique has had many marriage contracts go awry. The one with Princess Juliana ended with her marrying his brother. Thanks to Parliament he now must wed to ascend the throne. His father needs to retire and is abdicating, but has managed to find another contract. All he can envision is his brother and Jules taking the throne. He’s failed at completing an arrangement so many times because of his feeling of not being able to love.
After messing up royally (pun intended), Enrique calls Jules for advice. His brother Alejandro and Jules have been invaluable in helping him change to be more flexible and personable. He has to apologize and can only hope it is accepted.
As Madeline shows Enrique the gardens, they both learn about each other. Be prepared to sniffle a bit. All is not well though as the wedding day approaches, and Enrique finds he has a desire for a love match.
I love the way this relationship very gradually progresses. Both fighting their demons and their responsibilities.
I would really like to see the other Crown Princes meet their matches, even though their kingdoms have been saved by their sisters.
I’m so glad I did! Melissa McClone made this formally arrogant and disdainful man into a better than real fairy tale prince. One with real emotions, a man who made mistakes but owned up to them…and did better the next time.
Enrique’s connection to Princess Madeline was instantaneous on his part but not so much on hers. She is still dealing with the grief of losing her fiancée two days before their wedding. While ready to do her duty to her country, her heart is not involved. I’m not sure if he helped her more or vice versa, but I totally enjoyed their budding relationship, which started with a solid, supportive friendship.
Definitely a stand-alone book, I’m going to recommend that you go back to read the first 2 books AFTER this one…something I rarely do; I’m a read in order gal! But I think Enrique deserves this to be the beginning of his story on its own.
My thanks to Booksprout and the publisher for this gifted copy. This review is honest freely given
I was so excited to get Enrique’s story after he lost his bride to his brother. Now Enrique is to marry Madeline in an arranged marriage. Madeline lost her heart to Louie, her fiance five years ago. She felt like she could not open her heart again. Enrique also felt he was incapable of loving another person. Soon Enrique falls in love with Madeline but now he needs to find away into Madeline’s heart.
A delightful story of two lost souls that find love in each other. Loved the banter between the two. A sweet romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
I was a bit hesitant to read this book. I wasn’t really crazy about Enrique in The Not So Perfect Princess, but I decided to give him another chance – and I am so glad that I did! We see him, flaws and all, but trying so hard to be less self-centered and to think before he speaks. His consideration for Madeleine and trying to put her first, actually opens his heart in ways he wasn’t expecting. Princess Madeleine comes to the party with her own flaws and hang ups – like still being in love with her fiancé that died 5 years before. She knew she would end up with an arranged marriage, but could Enrique open up her heart to live again, and love again?
I loved the dynamics between the two main characters, but you add in the parents on both sides, plus in-laws – who are all royalty – things start happening that you didn’t quite expect. I love that in a story!
