In an emotionally rich and captivating new novel, New York Times bestselling author Marie Bostwick reunites three sisters whose deep bond is rooted in an unconventional past.Every child prodigy grows up eventually. For the Promise sisters, escaping their mother’s narcissism and the notoriety that came with her bestselling book hasn’t been easy. Minerva Promise claimed that her three “test … claimed that her three “test tube” daughters—gifted pianist Joanie, artistic Meg, and storyteller Avery—were engineered and molded to be geniuses. In adulthood, their modest lives fall far short of her grand ambitions. But now, twenty years after the book’s release, she hopes to redeem herself by taking part in a new documentary.
Meg, who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years, adamantly refuses to participate, until a car accident leaves her with crushing medical bills. While she recuperates in Seattle, the three sisters reluctantly meet with filmmaker Hal Seeger, another former prodigy. Like them, he’s familiar with the weight of failed potential. But as he digs deeper, he uncovers secrets they’ve hidden from each other—and a revelation that will challenge their beliefs, even as it spurs them to forge their own extraordinary lives at last.
“Reading Marie Boswick is like wrapping yourself up in a warm, hand-crafted quilt. Her books, rich in character and plot, are stitched together by a skilled wordsmith.” —Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author
“THE PROMISE GIRLS is a beautiful story about the ties that bind—love, laughter, memories, even secrets kept so long they become a part of the fabric of a family. Marie Bostwick exquisitely tells the tale of the three Promise girls, former child prodigies who learn to heal the scars of a bitter past so that they can love—and forgive—again.” —Melanie Benjamin, New York Times Best Selling author of The Swans of Fifth Avenue

Great book like all of Marie Bostwick’s books. I always love her characters. She makes it feel like you know them personally!
I like Marie Bostwick’s writing and have enjoyed all of her books that I’ve read, so far. I even enjoyed listening to this book. However, in the past I don’t recall her using as much profanity in her books. In the closing of this book a taboo sexual relationship was revealed in a way that made it seem as if it was ok. I choose her books to escape from the more disgusting aspects of the real world, such as that. If I encounter that particular subject, or something similar, in the next Bostwick book I read, then I will be dropping her books from my “must read” list.
Tavia Gilbert’s narration was marvelous and moved this book from a two-star listen to a three-star listen.
Realistic in the characters’struggles. Love the Seattle’s descriptions of seadons and moods. I enjoyed the book.
Great story: did not see this coming!!! Wonderful characters, great development. Twists and turns, not expected!!!! Debbie Macomber always delivers!!!!
Story of a complex family of talented sisters driven by their mother to attain fame. When the mother’s book tour takes a toll on the children the oldest daughter does something to make it stop. The daughter’s actions cause terrible unintended repercussions. An unlikely request to bring the girls back into the spotlight they worked so hard to avoid is the means of redemption.
love all her books
Three sisters are very close, having been raised by a deeply flawed mother. They support each other, and learn to give each other space. I enjoyed seeing their lives change and grow, while family remained paramount. The characters were very different and believable. Great read!
Really enjoyed the book. It ended fast as compared to the rest of the story.
A good distraction

I really enjoyed this book. A very different story.
Marie Bostwick is a great story writer and love this one too!
It was an usual plot built upon a common story line. Controlling Mother and three sisters who drew together for comfort. The author did a good job of introducing some usual elements to make the story interesting.
Bostwick’s best book so far. Interesting characters and plot twists.
