I’m over men. I’m done with them. Or at least the ones that work in my kitchen. Fine, one man in particular. Wyatt Shaw is cocky and condescending and so far out of his element that he doesn’t know which way is up. Or how to run his brand new kitchen all by himself. That’s where I come in. Sous chef extraordinaire. Second in command. Bane of his existence. I am the reason Wyatt’s doing so well as … Wyatt’s doing so well as the new executive chef of one of our city’s most prestigious restaurants. He has me to thank for his glowing accolades and five-star write-ups. Only if you were to ask him, he’d say I’m his biggest problem.
Despite his discouragement and bullish behavior, I’ve set two goals for myself.
The first? I’m going to fight my way to the top of this male-dominated industry and claim my own award-winning kitchen.
The second? I’m going to do whatever it takes to ignore Wyatt and his rare smiles and the thickening tension that’s started to simmer between us.
Wyatt Shaw might be Durham’s new shining star. He might be up for a James Beard Award. He might be my new boss and key to my future success, but he’s also in my way.
So he can keep his smoldering looks and secret kisses. And he can be the one that figures out how to make it through service without getting distracted by me.
I’m not the problem. The problem is him.

Kaya is definitely different to the other heroines in this series. She can be a little full of herself and is more confident and cocky, just like her male counterparts in this industry. It took her some time to realize that male chefs are ultra competitive and it didn’t matter if you were male OR female, they wanted to be the best and beat everyone and anyone. She’s also somewhat self-righteous, extremely independent and as tough as nails. She and Wyatt are mortal, arch, ride or die enemies… or so she thought. Once Kaya stopped caring about their rivalry, and took a step to the side and fully took Wyatt in, she became more human and I connected with her more. Kaya is an over thinker, so we could be twins and I feel that it’s her overthinking that makes this book drag on some and have a repetitive feel to it at times. Wyatt felt more of a secondary character in this book instead of the main male character, which was a pity because he was superb. He had the patience of a saint and was a big softie at heart. I wanted more time with him and Kaya beyond that last chapter, and maybe I’ll get snippets from the next book, my fingers are crossed. Speaking of that last chapter, I felt it was the best outcome to satisfy both Kaya and Wyatt, and he was such a supportive partner and attentive in all areas. They did make the perfect couple.
I love these Opposites Attract-books! And I love Wyatt and Kaya as a couple.
After being in a bookslump for over a week I found myself engrossed in the story. Although I could never imagine myself loving work so much I would work the hours these people in the kitchen’s work, I felt the enormous drive they have.
Wyatt and Kaya are so sweet together, and I enjoyed the way their romance evolved. They put themselves out there, which is refreshing because in a lot of romances the MC’s keep their feelings to themselves until some big reveal.
I also liked knowing more about Vera/Killian and Molly/Ezra and I can only hope to read more about Kaya/Wyatt in the next book! I can’t wait. (2018)
I have loved Wyatt since Book 1 and I couldn’t wait to read his story. I had a sneaking suspicion that the animosity between him and his co worker Kaya would hit a tipping point and I am so glad that it did! This was a great read and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
4.5 explosive chemistry stars! My favorite of the series. Wyatt is so dominating and sexy and perfect for Kaya, Kaya is one of my favorite heroine’s. She’s strong, sassy and doesn’t back down. Love this story, their chemistry and banter. Love all the supporting characters and can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this read!
I loved The Problem with Him so, so very much. Kaya was amazing. Wyatt was everything I wanted him to be and more. What started as workplace animosity built into fantastic chemistry between two characters who really were perfect for each other.
I’ve basically been waiting for/hoping for Wyatt to get a book since meeting him in The Opposite of You. I found him intriguing then and I wasn’t wrong. While we don’t actually get any time in his head, I didn’t feel like I really needed it. (Though I wouldn’t have said no to it, either.) He had his grumpy moments — which isn’t a problem because I love me some grumpy heroes — and he was certainly complicated, but I loved him.
As much as I adored Wyatt, Kaya was the real star of the show in The Problem with Him. What a fantastic heroine! She was smart, talented and driven. It was so easy to root for her throughout this book, whether with the Wyatt situation or with her dream of getting her own restaurant. She took life by the balls and made the most of every opportunity. But she wasn’t without her moments of doubt, which just made her all the more realistic to me. I loved how she matured and grew over the course of this book.
Much like with the first two books in the Opposites Attract series, I fell hard and fast for the characters and just couldn’t get enough of the characters. (Bonus: lots of Vera and Killian!) Kaya and Wyatt’s chemistry was off the charts and the slow burn between them was absolutely delicious. I do love the sexual tension — and everything that comes after, of course. And, as much as I enjoyed the romance, I enjoyed all of Kaya’s character growth just as much.
I’m so glad I discovered the Opposites Attract series in all its delightfulness. I fall a little more in love with it with each new book. That’s just one reason why The Something About Her can’t get here soon enough. Come on, February!
FAVORITE QUOTES
He was everything I shouldn’t want, like, or notice. Not because of the tattoos. Or even because of the piercings he’d removed since he’d been promoted. He was the kind of guy I should have been able to ignore entirely because of how opposite we were, because of how much we hated each other.
I wanted the glory. I wanted the fame. I wanted the massive responsibility that could go up in flames in any given second. I wanted it.
“Kaya,” he growled against my skin, sinking his teeth into my neck in the sexiest bite of all time. He was getting me back for the one time I’d bitten his finger. Only his way was worse. His was sex and fire and the fucking end of me.
This was what I wanted. This right here. Him. Wyatt. His touch and his taste and the wicked things I knew he would do to me.
Are you embarrassed by how much you need me? I asked him.
Not even a little bit, he’d typed back immediately. Pretty sure I’ve needed you for a long time.
But that wasn’t a normal smile. That was sex and sin and very dirty things.
“You’re my biggest weakness, Kaya. And my greatest ally. You’re my biggest challenge, my biggest problem. But mostly, you’re my salvation. From the kitchen. And from myself.”
I loved Kaya’s amusing delusional inner thoughts about Wyatt and their relationship. She wanted it to be nothing so bad because she was afraid. But Wyatt was going to finally take his chance. I would have liked more of their actual relationship, though, instead if the many, many paragraphs of introspection and descriptions. Still an enjoyable read!
I was so excited to read this book! And I was not disappointed! I loved The Problem With Him as much as I loved the first two books in the series.
We met Wyatt and Kaya in The Opposite of You, but they had small, supporting roles. I was super excited when I found out this book would be their story. I knew they belonged together as soon as I met them!
The book is told in first person POV by Kaya. In the beginning, she thinks that Wyatt hates her, and in turn she hates him. She is his sous chef and she wants nothing more than to be an executive chef of her own kitchen. She’s work with, and fought with, Wyatt for 5 years. Shes mad attracted to him but can’t get past his treatment of her in the kitchen.
Turns out he’s loved her all along! It was wonderful being in Kaya’s head as he wooed her. Despite knowing that Wyatt has to be a slave driver in the kitchen (because of how cutthroat the industry is), I loved that when Wyatt was wooing her, he was sweet and respectful. Consent was there 100%. He treated her the way every woman wants to be treated by the man she loves.
I loved that Kaya refused to give up on her dreams! Everything we want is on the other side of fear. Kaya knew that, accepted that and refused to give up because something was scary. She also refused to apologize for who she was. I was glad that even though she had a strained relationship with her parents, mostly her mother, she still made an effort to have a relationship with them, without giving into her mother’s demands.
This book has a decent amount of f-words, but so many that it was distracting. Theres two sex scenes, one oral only and the other the whole enchilada. Detailed but so much it headed into erotic territory. Steamy is the word I’d use.
If you like romances set in the food industry. then this book is for you! This is labeled as a standalone, but honestly, while the romance itself is its own complete story, I think the reading experience will be enhanced if you read the previous two books first. And they’re wonderful so you won’t be disappointed!
I can’t wait for Dillon’s story!
I enjoyed this story and the world that this author has created. It was great to see such strong characters and watch the journey they went on separately and together.
I definitely recommend this book, this series and this author.
I have wanted Wyatt to get his HEA ever since we met him back in Vera and Killian’s story. This did not disappoint!
I have read some of Rachel’s writing before, but not the Opposite Attracts series. Thankfully, it can be read as a standalone, but in having done so, I now need to go back and read them all. It should not come as a surprise as Rachel is such a fantastic storyteller.
All of the characters were intriguing, yet relatable and I wanted to crawl up into their lives and be one of them. I felt like I was watching a reality show on The Food Channel.
I loved Kaya’s character. Pink hair, piercings, and badass attitude blend with her ambitious and determined personality as she works to accomplish her goals of becoming Executive Chef of a prestigious restaurant. Since she never fit in. Add a mother who made her feel insignificant because she didn’t fit into the little hometown box she struggled to get out of after high school and an ex who refused to commit making her feel as if she would never be worthy of a relationship with someone of the opposite sex. Then to add to all that jazz, her life is food. She works fourteen plus hours a day six days a week all to make her executive chef look good.
Speaking of her executive chef and looking good. Wyatt is one hot mess of a tatted up work of art. His past leaves something to be desired as well. Luckily, he had people to support him and help him realize he was valuable and that is what Kaya needed. His kindness and honesty and willingness to put up with Kaya and her sarcasm, yet stand up for her when she needed a warrior was beyond swoon-worthy.
Wyatt Shaw, y’all. Be still my heart, I can’t even with this growly, alpha, darn near perfect hero. This was the third book in The Opposites Attract series, so you’d think I’d be used to how deft Ms. Higginson is at writing these irresistible surly men, but I’m blown away, once again, by how much I adored Wyatt Shaw.
When enemies-to-lovers is done right, it carries a charge with it. Like there’s an electrical current running through the entire storyline and it sparks and flares every time the lovers come into contact with each other. This is exactly the case with Wyatt and Kaya. The burn is slow – and I sometimes was incredibly frustrated with Kaya’s reticence and many of the decisions she made (because honestly, y’all, resisting Wyatt was always futile) – but I did appreciate all the sparks that flew between them, and their incredible chemistry that nearly burned me up inside.
I also loved Kaya’s character arc. She frustrated me. I didn’t always connect with her. She sometimes kept me from fully immersing my heart into the story. But I also loved her and appreciated how she grew. I loved the balance that she found in the end, and the way my heart finally took flight when she figured things out and let Wyatt in. She’s a prickly character – to the point where I felt like she held even me, the reader, at bay for most of the story. But in the end my heart was happy and satisfied with the way she grew, warmed, and found her own happiness.
I adore Ms. Higginson’s smart, engaging writing, and The Problem With Him was no exception. It’s an easy story to get lost in and one that completely satisfied in the end. Plus: Wyatt. Friggin’. Shaw. Heart-stealer extraordinaire and new favorite book boyfriend. Definitely do not miss out on him, or the rest of this beautiful story.
This was a great story! This book is a stand alone in an interconnected series. I had no trouble following this book. I have read some of this authors books but not all and this new book did not disappoint!!
Kaya is a head strong chef trying to get the executive chef position. Too bad cocky Wyatt got the position at her restaurant. Time for a change.
Wyatt is in charge of it all but when Kaya finally looks his way will it soften him? Can he acknowledge what a great chef Kaya is? Can these two work together when they both want to be the ones in charge? Will the kitchen heat up or fizzle out?
This was a great read! I look forward to reading the next book.
This book can be read as a standalone, even though it is part of an interconnected Series.
If you like strong women, who reach for the stars and refuse to give up on their dreams, then this book is definitely one you will love. If you like hot, sexy, tattooed, broody men then this book is one you will love!!
Wyatt Shaw and Kaya Swift are most definitely professional rivals!! Having worked together for quite a while, Kaya is miffed when its Wyatt takes the Executive Chef position that she was positive she deserved, but this girl is not going to lie down or give up !!! I can tell you, this is one HOT KITCHEN!!!
I found this book refreshing, Kaya was not a whiney, turn to mush female. She stood her ground and had no problem with speaking her mind. Determined not to get involved with men after her disastrous relationship with her ex, she knew where she was going and wanted to go. She could’nt really like this man, even if he was hot, even if his tattoos needed closer inspection and even licking, Right?? Wyatt Shaw was her problem, the main obstruction to achieving her goals and he was her boss, definitely a no go !! Wyatt played the long game, he knew this woman should be his .. and he wasn’t gonna fail .. right??? This slow burn romance kept me hooked, Loved the “hate relationship” this couple had, yet the electricity between them could probably light up New York. Even though professionally they wanted to out do each other their support of each other in the kitchen was also noticeable. Once the sparks took hold you just knew there as going to be an inferno!! GET THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER!!
When I was in college, I studied culinary arts and got to work in professional kitchen. I learned all kinds of cuisine. I read all kinds of genres and different stories but I was always looking for exciting romances with chefs. So to my amazement, Rachel Higginson writes an amazing romance series with chefs and restaurateur and I am just drawn in. Rachel Higginson just blows my mind at how detailed she is. I felt I was truly back in the kitchen. The Problem with Him is the third standalone book in the Opposite Attract series that absolutely enchanting. The blazing hot plot. The mesmerizing characters. The Problem with Him is a sexy and steamy romance that caused an inferno in my soul. I adore the Opposite Attract series but The Problem with Him absolutely dazzled. Rachel Higginson outdid herself.
The Problem with Him is the story of Wyatt and Kaya. I was so excited for this couple and I loved their story. Let say I was so out of my mind with excitement. The Problem with Him was refreshing. It was light. It was a feel good romance which put a smile on my face. I was engaged. I was delighted. I was happy. Every page soaked me. Every word was laced with enough sweet and spice to entice. Funny. Page Turner. Luscious. Magnificent. The Problem with Him was a sassy yet intriguing read. It was an enemies to lovers story with heat. It was a battle of the chefs with intensity. Rachel Higginson just brings you into a world of fine dining and exquisite love. Her words cajole me. Her prose offers decadence. Her writing is extraordinary and you just submerged into a world full of sizzles and goosebumps. However, it was more than a sultry romance. The Problem with Him had a plot about determination. It had an inspiring story about success and going after what you want and never giving up. I truly felt the heart of the story.
Wyatt and Kaya just bring fire to this book. Omg. The sexual tension. The slow burn love. I felt so compelled by their amazing chemistry. Wyatt was a brooding alpha and a successful chef. It was his vulnerable side that made me swoon. Kaya was sassy, fun, outgoing and totally determined. I loved her drive. I loved her tenacity. I loved her passion. In the series definitely Wyatt and Kaya are my favourite.
Seriously you need to drop everything and read this series. Well written, full of laughs and sass and set in the underbelly of the cheffing world. You will truly love it like I did.
“Wyatt Shaw was trouble. Until now he’d been this alluring mystery, a perplexing enigma that piqued my interest and tempted me in the worst way.” “[He] looked like a demigod and tasted like sin.”
Kaya Swift and Wyatt Shaw have butted heads since day one at Lilou and now that he’s the new Executive Chef, knives are flying. But when Sarita finds itself without an EC, it’s an opportunity Kaya cannot and will not pass. Kaya was burned in the past, and will never again let someone make her feel less for going after her dreams. She ambitious, tenacious and head-strong, and she has to be in the male-dominated restaurant world.
“Yes, we disagree, and sometimes yes, you’re downright scary, but I have always had a crush on you, Swift. From day one.” “You’re my biggest weakness … and my greatest ally. You’re my biggest challenge, my biggest problem. But mostly, you’re my salvation. From the kitchen. And from myself.”
Rachel Higginson writes fierce females and determined men that challenge and support them. All the stand-alone books in the Opposites Attract series feature couples that go from enemies to lovers. The characters are authentic, tenacious, ambitious and resilient. The push and pull, and witty banter are fantastic and at times hilarious. Wyatt and Kaya are a fantastic duo and I adore their journey in The Problem With Him, but their story is very much a slow-burn romance and I just don’t quite connect with the pace that comes with those stories. Had the romance burned hotter sooner and the pacing of the story overall had been faster and more tightly integrated, TPWH would have been sensational. I found the pacing and storylines for Vera and Killian in Opposites Attract and Molly and Ezra in The Difference Between Us more successful and entertaining from beginning to end. That being said, the Opposites Attract series is great – perfect for foodies – and they will definitely leave you hungry! I’m looking forward to Dillion and Vann’s story in the next installment, The Problem With Her.
“Woman I love you. And you love me. That’s all that matters.”
Get ready for some more amazing kitchen escapades! This series just keeps getting better and better and I’m so sad it’s over. I have been waiting patiently (not really!) for Wyatt and Kaya’s book. If you’ve read the other two you know what I mean. If you haven’t it’s not necessary but you get a better idea of the crazy chemistry these two have. And why I’ve been so anxious to finally get these two amazing characters’ story.
In this final book of the series we have Wyatt who is now executive chef and Kaya his sous chef. Wyatt is finding his way as EC but Kaya feels like she needs more than being under Wyatt. Even though she really would love to be “under Wyatt” in the sexy sense! But they are colleagues and it can’t feel as though it can’t happen. Find out what does happen when Kaya tries to find her own way as a chef and in the process ends up finding out more about herself as a person. And as Kaya and Wyatt try to ignore their crazy hot chemistry, they realize they can’t fight it for long. But how long can it last when they are both living a crazy life as chefs?
As a bonus I’m so happy we get a little glimpse on what’s going on with the previous couples lives in this book. We also meet some new characters briefly and I really hope we see them in a book of their own someday.
You can’t go wrong with this fun, sizzling read!
I am so in love with this series! This book is now my favorite. I had fallen in love Killian and Kera in book 1. And then with their friends Ezra and Molly in book 2. And now in book 3 we have the story of Wyatt and Kaya. And they are my favorite couple!
Kaya is strong and determined. She has only had herself to depend on to get what she wants in life. She is a Sous Chef with the dream of being a Executive Chef one day. She has the talent and the drive. Wyatt is her Executive Chef and is driven and focused on his kitchen. Kaya thinks he hates her but in reality he admires her and depends on her. She has the opportunity to maybe run her own kitchen in one of Ezra’s other restaurants. But she is battling with fighting for her place in a mostly male driven field and also with her heart that has new feelings towards a man she thought was her enemy.
This books so much fun to read. I loved that my favorite characters from the other books had a part in this story. The best part was the push and pull from Wyatt and Kaya. They were hilarious and so entertaining. And sexual tension! Wow! It made the steamy parts all the much better. And I found myself really pushing for these two. I wanted Wyatt to be able to keep Kaya as his Sous Chef because they are a great pair. But I also wanted Kaya to get her own dreams achieved of running a kitchen. I felt every emotion in this story. Which shouldn’t surprise me because Rachel Higginson is an amazing writer and I love every story she writes. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! Go! Read this now! And fall in love with each character. Can be read as a standalone but trust me, once you read this story you will be hooked on them all.
“My soul had been given purpose and my life had been gifted meaning.”
“His tongue was there only enough to remind me that it had the power to undo me. To totally upend me. To ruin me for other men.”
“That wasn’t a normal smile. That was sex and sin and very dirty things.”
“He’d flipped me upside down and turned me inside out and then left me to piece myself back together.”
“He defied every norm I had. He broke every rule and exceeded every expectation. He was and had been and would always be my exception.”
The Problem with Him was a ton of fun and a great read to spend my day wrapped up in. While this book is the third in the Opposites Attract Series, it can totally be read as a stand-alone novel.
The Problem with Him follows the story of Wyatt and Kaya. Kaya is the second in command and one amazing sous chef. Her dream is to one day be an executive chef like her nemesis Wyatt. Kaya will stop at nothing to go after what she wants and if that means putting up with Wyatt, then she will. Only putting up with Wyatt is harder than it used to be. The secret smiles and stolen moments are confusing and are turning Kaya’s world upside down. They’re supposed to be enemies. They’re not supposed to fall in love…..right?!
I fell in love with The Problem with Him pretty much from the first page. I was addicted and captivated by Kaya’s story. I loved her passion and drive and how utterly strong she was. She wasn’t afraid to go after her dream and wasn’t going to let anyone change her mind. And while she never felt like she really fit in with her life, cooking was the one thing she could count on. It made her competitive and strong. And Wyatt just pushed her to want more, to work harder and to make her dreams a reality…..As we get to know Wyatt, he is the kind of character you can’t help but fall in love with. Sure he’s hard on his staff, but he wants to be the best. His life has been anything but easy and cooking saved him. Wyatt doesn’t trust many people, but when he lets you in, it’s a total gift. Together these two were just explosive. The tension was undeniable and led to some of the most fun and entertaining banter. The tension just oozed off the pages and their chemistry had me begging for more. I loved how these two challenged one another and how they pushed each other to be their very best. The support, trust, and connection they shared was fantastic. I just couldn’t get enough. Their romance had a delicious slow burn and I truly loved watching these two fall.
The Problem with Him is a fabulous read from beginning to end. I loved getting lost in the characters and their story. I fell head over heels in love with Wyatt and Kaya and couldn’t help but devour their story!
I have been super amped to start a Rachel Higginson book for so long and was so excited to jump into Kaya and Wyatt’s book. Anyone who knows me knows that enemies to lovers is my JAM and so seeing the spitfire banter and sexy back and forth between these two really hit the spot. The Problem With Him was sexy, steamy, full of HOT sexual tension and the growly alpha-ness that I adore. Wyatt in particular was absolutely delicious and ALLL the things I love in a hero. He gave me all the swoons and made my heart melt throughout this whole story!!
While I loved them both together, I loved Kaya and Wyatt so much on an individual basis. I loved how ambitious and determined she was in accomplishing her dreams while also battling her own demons and her internal struggle of belonging and feeling worthy. Her banter with Wyatt was magnificent and I felt that the tension between them was palpable and singed my fingers right off the pages. His kindness, honesty and ability to make Kaya feel as she is worth it and so valuable was fantastic. He helped slay her demons and also helped her realize that she is strong and the perfect girl for him. He was heartwarming and so amazing and I might want to keep him in my pocket forever!
While I did love Wyatt and Kaya and their love story, I did feel that Kaya’s prickly and headstrong attitude towards Wyatt sometimes created an unnecessary hostile environment. I loved her sass and spitfire attitude but I felt she kept Wyatt at a distance where he (and I) couldn’t really connect with her. In addition, I felt like the secret she kept from Wyatt contributed to this emotional distance which also prevented me from enjoying the story to the max.
All in all though, I did love this story as I felt it was so smartly written and a joy to read. I am seriously foaming at the mouth to read Killian and Ezra’s books. Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula (less)
Vera ad Killian…
Molly and Ezra…
And now Kaya and Wyatt!!!…
I don’t know how Rachel Higginson does it, but all this sexual tension behind a kitchen and between coworkers that went to rivals, then to enemies and then to lovers, was AMAZING.
I loved every “bite” of it, their chemistry was everything I hoped and so much more!
Wyatt had me really intrigued in Book 1, and I’m so glad we’ve got to really know him, and all his layers…
The same goes with Kaya’s character.
Having strong heroines, dealing with their personal/family issues and with a very competitive world, especially for women, was really refreshing.
And of course, all those cameos with our favorite couples was a great bonus.
Now, I can’t wait for Book 4!!!
