One Hot Problem
Laurence has been a single dad for 16 years concentrating on family and career the idea of romance falling by the wayside, that is until he meets Alex who is a young artist, hurt by a past that means he doesn’t do relationships but together they take the chance on something. They have hiccups, misunderstandings, and obstruction along the the way.
This book is scorching and draws you in from the beginning. The only problem I can see with this book is wanting more and wanting it now. The chemistry between Alex and Laurence is electric and filthy talk is hot. I loved reading and listening to this book, if you like a hot read with daddy kink and lace included this is the book series for you, can’t wait for what is next
I loved the build up of the relationship between Alex and Laurence. It was interesting as well to see were their lives and been moving almost beside each other. The building of family felt special. Great beginning to a new series.
The narration was also well done.
The first book in Piper Scott’s Single Dad Support Group, The Problem sets up what promises to be a fantastic series! Filled with creative characters, lots of Alpha/omega action, and baby birthin’, I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.
Nicely low on the angst level, there are still some interesting conflicts in The Problem. Teen pregnancy, abusive older Alpha lovers, and intriguing family dynamics, Piper Scott weaves her magic to keep my attention the whole way through.
Of course I’m doing the audio versions of Single Dad Support Group, especially since they’re being narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo. He has a way with Ms. Scott’s stories: his wonderful accents, and his sultry, seductive voices bring everything to life in the best way possible.
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio version of this book.
I’m turning this review on it’s head, writing about the narrator first, cos, you know, I can, it’s my review 🙂
Michael Ferraiuolo has been a bit of an enigma for me, I either love his work, or hate it, I won’t lie. But THIS time? I freaking LOVED it!
Alex has synesthesia, which means he sees his emotions in colour. The whole book, Alex was seeing how Laurence was affecting him, and he wasn’t sure what it meant. The best bits of this book were when Alex was describing his colours/emotions, to Laurence, to himself. I have no doubt I would not have been so moved by those scenes, had I READ this book. Ferraiuolo nails it, he really does. Moved me to tears in places!
Laurence is solid, a good man, with his 16 year old son, Matthew. I liked how, very quicky, he was wanting more from Alex, not just for the sex(but PHEW!) no. But MORE. He has lived his life for his son, and in one meeting, Alex makes him see that he still has life to live, that he does not have to been locked away. Matthew is growing, making *quite literally* a life for himself. Laurence needs Alex, and rapidly, Alex sees that he needs Laurence too.
I loved the voices given to all the characters, but I especially enjoyed the voices given to the Support Group when they were chatting. It annoyed me a little bit at first, I will admit, but once I got used to the way the group chats were delivered, I loved them.
When the reason Alex behaved the way he did, before Laurence, becomes clear, I was out walking. And I stopped in the middle of the street, and cried. And cried to whole way through that bit. THEN, when other things happen?? I stopped in the middle of the street, and NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO came out my mouth, so loud, the woman across the road shouted to see if I was okay! I did NOT see that coming at me, no way, never in a million years!
So, yeah, loved the book, and loved the narration.
And now I’m left with a bit of a pickle! This is the only one of the series that is available in AUDIO, the books are out, all 6, but I don’t like to flip from listening to reading in a series (or vice versa) So my pickle is, do I READ the next one? Or do I wait (im)patiently for the next one in audio? ARGH! Such decisions!
5 stars for the book

The Single Dad Support Group the third series in the Aurora, Colorado Omegaverse. The first two series are The Rutledge Brothers and His Command, in that order. Each series is connected and overlaps with each other, but it’s not necessary to read the previous series to really enjoy the other series. However, I found it much more enjoyable because I had insights to reoccurring characters. Be aware that this is an A/B/O universe and mpreg occurs – if that’s not your cup of tea, then you are better off reading something else.
“The Problem” is set a couple of decades after the His Command series ends, although it’s not quite apparent right away. Laurence is a single alpha dad of a teenage omega son. He works as a scientist with a very big and successful company. On the advice of his boss, he attends an art show – something completely out of his comfort zone. Attending this show changes Laurence’s life when he meets Alex, the beautiful and sexy omega artist who captures his heart. The romance between Laurence and Alex is as exciting as it is sexy and delicious. There’s a lot that goes on in this book, and a lot of obstacles the characters have to overcome, but I had no trouble following the plot and loved every, single moment I spent with this book.
Piper Scott’s writing has improved so much in each and every book she’s written. I was incredibly impressed with her writing in this book, and loved her descriptions and the plot pacing. The writing was very smooth and so easy to read. The characters were very well developed and I fell in love with them. Plus, Piper Scott writes some of the absolute best sex scenes I have ever read. They are so hot, erotic, and unique, plus they fit perfectly in the story without feeling over the top.
The audiobook was narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo who is one of my favorite narrators. He has a gift for voicing characters – keeping the voices distinct and consistent, as well as incorporating so much emotion and energy into his performance. I listened to this book while I was hiking and I didn’t want to finish my hike because I was so caught up in the story. The production of this audiobook was extremely well done, and I’m so happy it’s in my library because I will definitely be re-listening to it in the future.
I highly recommend this book and would happily gush about it to anyone who asks.
Audiobook review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5
Good age-gap story with great narration.
I love, love, love Michael Ferraiuolo’s voice. He can read a grocery list and make it sound enticing. Narrating The Problem was no problem for him at all.
This was the kind of age-gap story that I enjoy. I don’t care for ones that constantly beat you over the head with the age difference and how it’s so wrong for them to want to be together. Younger man Alex finds what he’s always needed in the much older Laurence and Laurence finds the love he didn’t know he was looking for.
This is the beginning of a series (with 7 books out in digital format) that has several very interesting characters who will be starring in their own books. I love how Michael Ferraiuolo reads the group chats. He makes it easy to know who is speaking and his voices really enhance the dialog between the characters. I’m looking forward to enjoying the rest of this series.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Laurence is a 42 year old scientist and single dad, who has spent his life taking care of his 16 year old son. At an art exhibit, he meets 21 year old Alex. Alex is the painter whose art is on display, but he is also the man who is about to seduce Laurence and change his life forever.
They have instant chemistry but there are some obsticles they will face if they decide to try to make it work together. Plus, there is an unexpected surprise on its way.
Good thing Laurence has his Single Dads support group to help him make sense of the colorful crazy world he has just discovered.
Great characters and storyline. Definitely a recommended book.
Narration done by Michael Ferraiuolo. Fantastic character voicework made the story shine. Easy to listen to and enjoyable. Clean recording as well.
This book was my first ever foray into MPreg and I’m so glad that I took the chance! This book now stands as a checkpoint for a life change – dropping me headfirst and full speed into a new dimension. Piper’s completely relatable characters, vivid worlds and spectacularly HOT scenes are unforgettable and unregrettable! Lawrence and Alex are scorching hot but also sweet and adorable. I promise a fun and excitable ride if you just take the chance on this wonderful book – but be warned: You will want to dive straight into the next one.. and the next…
Laurence is so calm, patient and truly understanding. Alex is stronger inside than he gives himself credit for. Reading about what they have been through to get to where they are, was adorable.
The Problem is the first book in the Single Dad Support Group series, and we start of with Laurence and Alex. Laurence is a member of the group, dad to sixteen-year-old Matthew. Alex is friends with one of the members, but doesn’t know much about it INCLUDING the members. Alex and Laurence meet at an exhibition showing Alex’s work. Sparks fly, and colours light up Alex’s world.
I loved this foray into an Omegaverse different from others I have read. There was no shifting, no wolves, just Alphas and Omegas. The explanation of Alex’s synesthesia was done in a way that was helpful, without it seeming as just a piece of information! It formed part of the story, integral to Alex, and that was just perfect. His own realisation of what the colours meant was was of the best scenes for me.
This was hot and steamy, with a dash of Daddy kink; plenty of laughs; some heartbreak and confusion; and lots of hints about what and who will come in the next book. I can’t wait. This was well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed. I thoroughly enjoyed every word, and I will be reading more in this series!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *
