I wish I could give this last book in the series a 10 star rating! It had all the goodness of the other 3 but with that added extra that gave it that edge topping conclusion! It made me cry because it was so beautiful and heart wrenching. Fiona’s story was told in a way that was perfect for who she was throughout the whole series. Yes she did bad things but she out of all the characters in the series was the one who most needed the forgiveness and love. She was a character that I rooted for throughout and her story was heartbreaking to read. It also gave me murdery feelings when I read it, but not towards her. I wanted to wrap Fiona up in a blanket and hold her till she felt like she is deserving of all the love!
It takes some pretty incredible writing talent to make you feel as strongly about character(s) like Kiersten does in The Messes series. There are some surprises in this one, so make sure to fasten your seatbelt for this conclusion to the series is a heck of a ride! Moving on from this series that was so powerful is not going to be an easy task and I am sure I will be going back several times to read it again and again.
This is the 4th and finale book in ‘The Messes’ series. I would not advise this to be read as a stand alone. There are so many characters introduced throughout each book, each with a whole bunch of back story that needs to be known. You need to pick up the entire series, you won’t regret it!
Kiersten Modglin has done it once again with ‘The Prisoner’; she has written another 5 star book. Modglin has given us another suspense thriller that includes her famous out-of-nowhere twists that captivates her audience. As all her books are, this novel is so well written, the characters are well fleshed out and oh-so-messed-up, and the plot takes you on a gripping, emotional, and complex ride.
This is Fiona/Gia’s book, I have to admit up until I learned what all she has been through, I really did not like her, at all. But, her story broke my heart, made me sympathize with her, and understand what and where her actions result from.
And then there is the equally messed up Logan who stills your heart before you even realize what is happening.
Come discover more secrets with the James family. This finale ties up ‘The Messes’ series perfectly.
Oh my where to begin. An amazing ending to a great series. I loved Fiona’s story from beginning to end. A page turner that kept me on edge. When Logan comes into the picture you wonder what he is all about, a mystery you wonder. Will Fiona find love, I am thinking? The twists were awesome. I didn’t expect the ending to be like it was. A total shock in the ending but I totally loved it. I would highly recommend this series. I’m so happy with the final outcome of the series. Great job Kiersten!!!! 5 stars definitely.
WOW!! I really enjoyed reading Fiona’s story. What a fabulous way to end the Messes series.
Fiona is running away from her hometown and her past with many dark secrets. She has no idea where she is going, all she knows is she can’t stay in one place too long. Along the way she meets Logan. No matter how much she doesn’t want to and knows that she shouldn’t trust him, something inside her makes her feel things that she hasn’t felt in a very long time.
Logan is on the run as well. When their worlds and secrets collide, trust will be tested and boundaries will be push.
I have loved all the characters of the Messes Series, but I really loved seeing Fiona’s story unravel. With hope, anything is possible!
What an epic, emotional conclusion to this amazing series! I have loved every intense minute of Fiona and Logan! This series has been angsty and delicious. Fiona and Logan will always have a place in my heart!!
WOW!!!!! This book was excellent. I hate that it is the last of the series. I was living in the book. I fell in love with all the characters. You should read the series in order. I wish I could give it a higher rating. This series is is a must read.
I received this book as an ARC. I am voluntarily providing an honest review.
This is the 4th book in The Messes Series by Kirsten Modglin. I absolutely loved this book. It was really hard to put it down. Fiona leaves her hometown because of the secrets she has. She has no idea where she is going. She doesn’t have a lot of money with her. She stops at a gas station where she comes across Logan. He’s running from his secrets as well. Logan asks Fiona for a ride and doesn’t care where she’s going. He offers to pay for gas and other expenses along the way. Neither one wants to talk about why they are running away from their life. Their real life catches up to them and they both get hurt. The life Fiona had growing up was not the way she wanted to live. An abusive mother who blamed it on the acholic father. Fiona and her brothers needed to get away, and they did, at a price. Logan was a therapist and got involved with a client who turned out to be married. This book gave me my, oh no moment, my no way moment and the big one, you’ve got to be kidding me moment. Definitely a page turner. I highly recommend the whole series.
What an amazing ending to this series. Things happened that I never ever expected. Fiona’s story was packed full of everything that was needed; finding out more from her past, learning even more of what she was carrying around on her shoulders. And Logan…. What can I say, he was exactly what she needed. I was blown away, yet again with all this new found information that I would have never guessed to happen. I almost hate that this series has come to an end. Each book kept me needing more
Perfect ending to this wonderful series. Kiersten did an amazing freaking job with this book and this series. I loved every single story, every single character, every single twist and turn. This one gives you the ending you have been waiting on . The ending you definitely don’t see coming . But I loved being able to read about Fiona and get her story. You read about her through this whole series. I was ready to finally read her story and I understand her better. That is exactly what Kiersten gives you with this storyline. Her heart wrenching twisting emotional story. Hold on because you will go on a ride you won’t forget with Fiona. This is my favorite in this series. But I absolutely loved the whole series. Can’t wait to read more from Kiersten. Amazing job so well written highly recommend
The Prisoner is the last book in the Messes series. It is the story about Fiona and puts everything together from the previous 3 books.
Fiona has her demons she has to battle and conquer and when she meets Logan on her trip to where ever she is heading to she has a hard time trusting him. Logan has his own demons as well he is working through and he wants to get to know Fiona on a personal level. During their road trip certain things come out about both of their past. Will these two be able to conquer their demons, learn to trust and open up to each other?
“#2 Don’t look for love in other when you need to find it in yourself.”
Kiersten Modglin has become one of my favorite authors who I steer towards anytime she has a new release. She knows how to blind side you with her words. She gets me every time I read one of her books. I never know what she is going to throw at me until it is right in my face. The prisoner is full of angst, love, mystery, and suspense. I highly recommend this book/series and all of her other books.
“I can’t help but want to get to know what’s behind those gorgeous eyes.”
“Venom and nightmares. There are places in my mind that would terrify you.”
Holy Hannah! I did NOT see that coming!! I can’t tell you the amount of times I audibly gasped during this read!! In true Modglin fashion, I was kept guessing and was totally shocked at the ending!
Fiona Dinali is just trying to survive. Day to day. Always looking over her shoulder. Always doing whatever she has to in order to stay alive one more day. She’s done terrible things. Her secrets are hers and hers alone. She can’t afford to let anyone too close. They could hurt her. Or worse, she could hurt them. Until him. Why she agreed to give him a ride to nowhere she’ll never know. Their only connection seems to be that they’re both running and they both have a darkness inside them. But, for the first time, she’s feeling things she shouldn’t. Things she doesn’t deserve to feel. It’s too risky to let her heart distract her from her plans. She’ll soon find out there’s more to Logan than she could ever have imagined. Was their encounter random at all? Has she failed at staying invisible, letting her past catch up with her? Will she be forced to do to Logan what’s she’s done to so many others to protect herself? Or, could he be the light to her darkness?
Logan North is a dead man walking . Sooner or later he’ll be found and , soon thereafter, a corpse. Maybe he should welcome the sweet dream of death. His life is already ruined. His career is over. His lover is gone. He could count the reasons to keep running on one….. well , on no hands. Until her. Kindred spirits wandering in the darkness, they somehow need each other. Can they pull each other in to the light? Or, will his secret plunge them both into hell forever.
I have called Ms. Modglin the queen of twists and turns. Well, my friends, she has put another jewel in her crown with this one. Another diamond in her tiara. Another gem in her scepter. I never, and I mean, NEVER, saw this ending coming! While the other books in this series are stand-alones, this one is not. It needs to be read as the finale or you’ll spoil everything!! I am so sad to see this series end, but I am ecstatic to see what Ms. Modglin has in store for us next!!!

Fiona had been held captive her entire life by the one person who should have been taking care of her: her mother. With her background of abuse and neglect it is no wonder she used drastic measures to solve her problems. Fiona felt that she was unworthy of happiness, love, trust, honesty and family. She had no choice but to fake her death all those years ago so she could be free of her evil mother. Her brother may have thought he was doing the right thing by admitting her into a psychiatric facility, but she hated it and she didn’t feel any better about herself. To understand her as she is today, it is necessary to revisit her childhood and teenage years because that is how she became a shell of the person she once was. This is Fiona’s journey back to reality.
Fiona met Logan at a time when she was trying to figure out what direction her life would take. She decided to use him for his money and allowed him to accompany her on her escape to the past. He may be good-looking and kind, but everyone has ulterior motives and Fiona refused to let herself trust him.
Does Fiona fall under Logan’s spell and tell him all about her past and how does Logan feel when he finds out what she has done?
Wow!! Kiersten Modglin has done it again; giving us another suspenseful and page turning thriller. I never knew what was coming as I continued reading late into the night. Fiona was the one character that I could never really understand but as her story progressed, she evolved into someone who was always inside her heart, waiting to break out. This was the perfect ending to an extraordinary series, and I thank Kiersten for writing such a powerful story.

What do we fight for every day, not just to survive the life we are given, but for the love we sometimes think we don’t deserve? What do we strive for everyday? We strive to be greater than we were the day before but sometimes that is not always the case. We can also be Prisoners of our past fighting to be free, yet that is what Fiona is, she is a prisoner of her past running from not only herself but trying to escape it. And who can you trust when you’re running from something you’re not sure of?
Logan is always trying to fix those that are broken, to help them pick up the pieces of the past to make them whole, but when his life shatters around him who can help him break free of his prison? He is broken in the most beautiful way but when he meets Fiona he is only in need of a ride to nowhere and along the way things seem to get a little less broken and it’s possible that they can save each other from their prisons and finally break free from the chains that have been holding them back all this time.
“It’s those of us who are broken ourselves that can most connect to others like us” – Logan
Kiersten Modglin has done it again with the final book in the Messes series, I for one hate to see it end. But I am so glad to see how each of these wonderfully written characters have turned out and all of my questions have been answered, and I truly can’t wait to read more from this amazing author. I love the twist’s an turns that she puts in to her worlds that throw you for a loop that you were not expecting and take you on a truly amazing ride.
In the 4th and final book, Fiona finally gets to tell her story. She will leave you with heartbreak and sadness. She will leave you with tons of feels for what she has been through on her young life. Battling from her social path mother, to wanting to protect those she loves, Fiona will leave you speechless and loving her. Great job to the author in another wonderful read.
In order to understand this book, you MUST read the other three. The Cleaner, The Healer and The Liar.
An emotional journey filled with angst, shocking truths, unbelievable lies, surprising twists and maybe, just maybe, a little love and hope. After reading the first three books in the series, I was eager to read Fiona’s story. I needed to understand why she did the things she did. I was unprepared for the harsh reality that was her life. Logan has his own demons, his soul broken and his life’s reality is also full of lies and deceit. Can these two broken souls help mend each other? Are they both destined to never be whole and just lifeless shells of human beings? This entire series has burrowed down into my heart and has at times, overtaken my mind. All four books have characters that the reader will wholeheartedly fall in love with and also completely hate. This series will have you gasping in shock, crying in despair and taking deep breaths when a possible happy ending is in sight.
Omg! This book is incredible! The Messes Series is unbelievable! I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one sitting! So many twists and turns and questions answered that will blow your mind! The last of the series about Fiona, who we met in the other books, perfectly ties up this series. So many emotions going thru me right now. I was enthralled from the very first sentence. And I loved Logan’s character and how he wanted to help Fiona. There was so much more to his character that you can’t help but root for them as a couple. Everyone needs to read this amazing book. I absolutely, positively loved this ending to the series!

Kiersten Modglin
Kiersten Modglin is an award-winning author of bestselling psychological suspense novels. Kiersten lives in the rural Midwest with her husband, daughter, and their two Boston Terriers: Cedric and Georgie. She is best known for her unpredictable suspense and her readers have dubbed her ‘The Queen of Twists.’
“Always. No regrets.”
Fiona is running. Constantly. She is running from her past, which refuses to let her go. Her past haunts her. A past she isn’t supposed to think about. A past that refuses to be forgotten. When a stranger with ready cash finds her at a gas station, Fiona has no idea that he brings a tidal wave where the past and the future are about to collide.
Whew. The conclusion to this series is insane. Just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be any more twists and turns and secrets to be revealed… Kiersten laughs maniacally and decides to ruin my life.
So many dots are connected, and the story comes to a full close. So many deep, dark secrets from a traumatic past come to light, and just when we think we can’t handle another plot twist- we are delivered another plot twist.
Everyone we have fallen in love with throughout this series makes an appearance in this book, in one way or another. As their stories come to a close, we are reminded that life is messy, complicated and that humans make mistakes.
Sometimes those mistakes come as the result of trying to do the right thing. Sometimes those mistakes come as the result of selfish decisions. And sometimes, we stumble and fall.
This is a redemption story. Forgiveness. Growth. Family. It’s a story about understanding and learning to accept that the things that have hurt us in the past don’t have to hurt our future.
There is a list at the end of this book that is incredible. And those words say in my heart in such a significant way. Kiersten truly outdid herself with this series. She showcased how incredibly dynamic her talent is, how dark can intermix with the light. This is a devastatingly beautiful story.
Twists and turns and insane plot twists are just the tip of this powerful series. I devoured these books in two days. I could not stop reading if I wanted to, which I didn’t. Strap in and hold on- this series is about to mess up everything.
This is the 4th and final book in ‘The Messes’ series. Unlike the first three books you cannot read this as a standalone. You need to read books one to three first. But you will not regret reading them all.
This is another 5 star read by this author. What an epic, emotional conclusion to this amazing series! I have loved every intense minute of Fiona and Logan!
This is Fiona/Gia’s book. I really did not like her at all. But, her story broke my heart, made me sympathize with her and understand what and where her actions result from.
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
My God this author can write a story, of that there’s no doubt. The author warns us that we need to read the other books in the series to understand and appreciate this book and she is so right. Even though they are all standalone reads Fiona’s book is EVERYTHING. You think of her as a monster, I mean how can you think otherwise. But and yes there is a but, hell it’s a HUGE but here, we don’t know her story. The story of abuse has been hinted at but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Her story isn’t easy or pretty hell it’s far from it. Years of secrets, and guilt have changed her. Years of protecting those around her has scarred her. She’s so much more and so much less than we have been led to believe. This author brings this series to an end with a read that will leave you emotionally spent. You will cry if you have a heart. You will be angry (don’t take it out on your kindle I almost did). You will feel emotion. You will feel connected. You will share in her pain. You will bask in her. You will see her released from the prison of her life. It’s twisted. It’s ugly. It’s mind blowing.
Reading Fiona’s story completely broke me. Her life and past were horrid. It was so hard for her to trust anyone and even worst to let anyone love her or let them in. And then he meets Logan who was also trying to run away from his demons. Will they destroy each other? Or will love save them both!
I can’t believe is over! I love this series so much! The Prisoner was the last book of the series and I’m broken-hearted to have to say goodbye to Gunner, Gia, and Gavin. They went through so much in their life. Their stories were so painful, I will miss this messy family that’s for sure
