Anyone who lived through the 1980s may find it impossible—inconceivable, even—to equate The Princess Bride with anything other than the sweet, celluloid romance of Westley and Buttercup, but the film is only a fraction of the ingenious storytelling you’ll find in these pages. Rich in character and satire, the novel is set in 1941 and framed cleverly as an “abridged” retelling of a centuries-old … centuries-old tale set in the fabled country of Florin that’s home to “Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passions.”

I’ve read it, read to my grandchildren and they are reading to their children. There’s a reason this is such a favorite story and we all find the happy ending we want.
One of the best books! It makes you look at things through different lenses.
This is the only book I can think of where I thought the movie was better. The movie is one of my very favorite. It manages to ride that fine line between humor and slap stick, but never crosses it. It is hard for me to separate the book from the movie in my mind.
Mom tried for a year to get me to read this. Great book.
This was a rarity in that the movie was actually better.
If you have only seen the movie then you only know half the story.
If there were a rating higher than 5 stars this would have it!!
great book, great movie; have read the book and watched the movie more than once
I still like the movie best
What’s not to love. Even my children love this book.

I’m happy to say that was not the case. While the beginning pages of the book were a bit of a struggle to get through, once the …
Incredible
An excellent book whether you read it before or after you’ve watched the movie.
Read long before the movie as I am an enormous fan of both of the Goldman brothers. Great, witty dialogue gets me every time. Highly recommended.
Loved the Movie, loved the book.
An absolute classic. The dialog is superb and witty, and well paced.
