The Princess and the Rogue by Kate Bateman is an excellent historical fiction romance novel that is the third in the Bow Street Bachelors series.
I admit this is the first book I have read by this author, and I loved it so much, I already purchased the first two books. Each one centers around one of the three male friends that are all war heroes in their own right, fighting overseas for the English Crown, all return home with their own physical and mental scars and all end up working for the government on Bow Street. This book features Sebastian Wolff, Earl of Mowbray and his new acquaintance Princess Anastasia Denisova.
Seb meets “Anna Brown” (Anya under disguise as his great aunt’s companion) in England after she and her maid/friend Elizaveta have been hiding to avoid being found by the villainous fellow Russian and spy trying to find and dispose of her in attempt to avoid his own treasonous actions being brought to light. Seb ends up guarding Anya and annoyance, then friendship, then romance ensues.
This book has a wonderful, intricate, and interesting historical plot that kept me entertained throughout. I loved the concept, pacing, character cast, dialogue, time period and locations, and well everything about the book to be honest.
My favorite two things were the two main characters: Anya and Seb and the wonderful and perfect ending. They both had their own complicated and harrowing pasts, they had great personalities, were like able, realistic, and had great chemistry. I am so glad the book ended as it did. What more can one ask for?
This book has made me a huge fan of Ms. Bateman. I can’t wait to read the previous two books in this series I just purchased and future books as well.
Excellent 5/5 stars
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
Anya Denisova is a Russian Princess hiding from a Russian traitor who gave information to the French of Russian movements before Waterloo.
Sebastian Wolff is partners with two friends, owners of The Tricorn, a most popular gaming club and works as a Bow Street Runner. They meet in a brothel and nothing will be the same between them. Finding the traitor who caused Anya’s brother’s death and many others at Waterloo is their goal, but puts Anya’s life in danger. Seb is up for the challenge. Anya is his. How this bachelor will fall! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Anya is a Russian princess hiding in London after barely escaping with her life, now she’s been found and is in danger. Bow Street agent Sebastien Wolff doesn’t believe in love and isn’t interested in marriage, so it should be easy to protect the beautiful “Anna Brown”, his great aunt’s companion, and not become invested. When her secrets are revealed, and he learns her life is in danger, he quickly realizes there’s not much he won’t do for her.
The Princess and the Rogue is a really great read, it has suspense, mystery, heat, good banter and side characters, and a twist at the end. I loved Anya and Seb, their banter was amazing, and my heart ached for both of them at different points in the story. The Dowager Dutchess, while a small part, was amazing, who doesn’t love a scheming old lady. Once I started I couldn’t put it down I had to know what was coming next, it was absolutely the perfect distraction for me to hide from the current state of the world. I have not read the previous two books in the series and I didn’t feel too lost, but I will definitely be reading them soon, highly recommend!
The Princess and the Rogue (Bow Street Bachelors, #3) by Kate Bateman This is the 3rd and final book in the series. I love them all … but I think this is my favorite…We have family(blood and others just as close.) There is danger, suspense, intrigue, laughs and tears, and lots of steam all getting us to a very HEA.
This book happens to be my first by this author and I found myself enjoying it quite a bit. After the death of her remaining family member, Princess Anastasia Denisova must go into hiding in London from an unwanted and dangerous marriage proposal. For the past year things were going well for her and best friend Elizaveta, she had been working as a companion for an elderly dowager duchess and as a tutor for the working girls next door at London’s most exclusive brothel. Unfortunately her somewhat peaceful existence is interrupted by an interlude at said brothel.
Sebastian Wolff, the Earl of Molbray, and Bow Street investigator, has been feeling a bit out of sorts since his friends got married. He didn’t consider himself lonely but something was missing. With the appearance of “Anna Brown” things started to look up for him. He felt the instant attraction, but was shot down just as quickly. They meet again, but this time with him saving her life. With the help from his aunt, who ends being the duchess Anna is the companion for, she is convinced to go into hiding once again at his gambling hell. That initial attraction they felt before comes to the forefront the more they spend time with each other. When they finally admit their attraction to each other, Anna’s past comes rushing back.
Overall, Anna and Sebastian’s story was a great read. There was a mixture of danger, suspense, intense attraction and great camaraderie. And even though this is book 3 in the series, and we do see the couples from the previous books, I had no issues following along in this one. I actually may need to go back and read the first two in this series.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. All opinions are my own.
