Pat Conroy’s New York Times–bestselling Southern drama about the destructive repercussions of keeping an unspeakable family secret Tom Wingo has lost his job, and is on the verge of losing his marriage, when he learns that his twin sister, Savannah, has attempted suicide again. At the behest of Savannah’s psychiatrist, Dr. Susan Lowenstein, Tom reluctantly leaves his home in South Carolina to … home in South Carolina to travel to New York City and aid in his sister’s therapy.
As Tom’s relationship with Susan deepens, he reveals to her the turbulent history of the Wingo family, and exposes the truth behind the fateful day that changed their lives forever.
Drawing richly from the author’s own troubled upbringing, The Prince of Tides is a sweeping, powerful novel of unlocking the past to overcome the darkest of personal demons—it’s Pat Conroy at his very best.

Love the setting and characters. Hard to put down!
This book is so beautifully written. Lyrical.
A great story of a local native in a nearby locality. What life was like in the early day s of segregation.
Prince of Tides is Pat Conroy’s best book!
Such rich language. Love all Pat Conroy books except his first one!
Conroy has a wonderful handle on his characters. Almost feels as if you are reading about the author’s own life. Wonderful story.
Very well written. Enjoyed the story. Felt like I got to the characters. Would highly recommend it.
One of my all time favorite books about the south.
Love anything by Pat Conroy, especially love the locale!
This was my 2ond time reading this book about 20 years apart. I think I was more mesmerized the 2ond time. Great for folks who enjoy all things southern…. our culture etc.
Pat Conroy is my all time favorite authors. His descriptions of his characters and their lives in the coastal south resonate with those of us who call this area home. Even the writing in his cookbook, along with the recipes brought smiles and happy sighs to his reader.
Avoided this book for years but I shouldn’t have. Could not stop reading. Every word he writes is poetry and I typically hate poetry but I was hypnotized by the story and the complete honesty with which he writes and the magic he uses to describe a horrific childhood. What is it about the south that creates these authors who sear you with their …
One of my all time favorites!!
The movie was good entertainment. The book digs deeper making the characters explode with realism and the events are building blocks to heighten the story.
Pat Conroy is the best writer of the century. His words are poetry.
Too predictable
Pat Conroy takes the reader on a journey through time and memory as his protagonist, Tom Wingo, pieces together his childhood, in an effort to help his sister, Savannah, a gifted poetess. Tom’s reminiscences not only help his sister’s therapy but also aid in salvaging his failing marriage and career. Great read wth wonderfully lyrical descriptions …
As a QHHT practitioner, I was happy to come across a novel that broaches the subject of past lives. This book is well-written and based on research that even the average nonbeliever in reincarnation might find compelling. An important subject and story for our times.
