Pat Conroy’s New York Times–bestselling Southern drama about the destructive repercussions of keeping an unspeakable family secret Tom Wingo has lost his job, and is on the verge of losing his marriage, when he learns that his twin sister, Savannah, has attempted suicide again. At the behest of Savannah’s psychiatrist, Dr. Susan Lowenstein, Tom reluctantly leaves his home in South Carolina to … home in South Carolina to travel to New York City and aid in his sister’s therapy.
As Tom’s relationship with Susan deepens, he reveals to her the turbulent history of the Wingo family, and exposes the truth behind the fateful day that changed their lives forever.
Drawing richly from the author’s own troubled upbringing, The Prince of Tides is a sweeping, powerful novel of unlocking the past to overcome the darkest of personal demons—it’s Pat Conroy at his very best.

Superb writing, memorable characters.
Read it for ears ago and it emails one of my favorite books. I love everything Pat Conroy has written but this is one of his best.
I love any book written by Pat Conroy
He is a wonderful story teller. I am reading it again after many years. Well worth a second or third read.
Probably one of my all time favorite books!
I tried to get through it, I really did. I found the language and situation completely unrealistic. The mental imagery was poorly executed and no one really talks that way. It was overdone, overthought, and underwelming.
Conroy chooses words with surgical precision, wonderful use of the language
This is an older book but it is a masterpiece. The writing is poetic. I was in awe of the prose throughout it. The books I read afterward were a let down because I missed Pat Conroy’s beautiful writing. It should be required reading for all aspiring writers.
This is one of the, if not the, most powerfully emotive books I have ever read. Convoy bares more of his soul when he writes than any other modern author. He makes you suffer openly but knowing that the end will bring salvation. This is one not just to read but to keep and reread again and again.
Beautifully written. A modern classic.
I lost myself in this book. I didn’t want it to end. As always, the book was so much better than the movie.
Cloying…stick my finger down my throat…literally threw hard cover into trash.
If I still haven’t made myself clear, it is one of the worst things I’ve ever attempted to read.
I read this book years ago and loved it. Not surprisingly, the movie was a big disappointment.
I loved this book! Pat Conroy books hit home. They are believable. Probably because they come mostly from his past. I had to put “tear-jerker” as part of my description because I have to admit I did cry quite a bit in parts, as I identified with a portion of the book myself. This is an excellent story. As with most books…this one is better than …

One of my favorites
This book is just overall great writing. I love Pat Conroy and I love his style. This book is an absolute page turner.
This was a very emotional book; one of the most that I have ever read. I loved the characters in this book. Some characters in the story were victims who overcame their past and obstacles in due time but the lasting effects were haunting.
I love Pat Conroys writing. I had only read The Water is Wide (which I highly recommend) before I got The Prince of Tides on Book Bub. I then read his book Beach Music which I loved also. I don’t know which I liked better. I’m an avid reader and have read many great books but Conroy truly holds a special place for me and the books I’ve read from …
