Pat Conroy’s New York Times–bestselling Southern drama about the destructive repercussions of keeping an unspeakable family secret Tom Wingo has lost his job, and is on the verge of losing his marriage, when he learns that his twin sister, Savannah, has attempted suicide again. At the behest of Savannah’s psychiatrist, Dr. Susan Lowenstein, Tom reluctantly leaves his home in South Carolina to … home in South Carolina to travel to New York City and aid in his sister’s therapy.
As Tom’s relationship with Susan deepens, he reveals to her the turbulent history of the Wingo family, and exposes the truth behind the fateful day that changed their lives forever.
Drawing richly from the author’s own troubled upbringing, The Prince of Tides is a sweeping, powerful novel of unlocking the past to overcome the darkest of personal demons—it’s Pat Conroy at his very best.

One of the best.
I absolutely loved this book. Reading it is like reading poetry. Skip the movie and read the book.
Classic novel that everyone should at least once.
I read this book decades ago, and can still remember my distaste for it. Bleh!
Great book
I just love his writing style and am truly saddened by his passing.
This is one of my favorite books. No one writes about the South and complicated family dynamics like Pat Conroy.
I loved everything about this book and really all of Pat Conroy’s books!
One of my all-time favorite authors, Conroy delivers the whole package in the pages of this story.
This is an intense and brilliant novel.
It’s my first pat Conway, it won’t be my last
Great book. Pat Conroy is one I of the best writers. “Beaches” is the best and “South of Broad” is another great.
I read this book years ago and it has stayed with me
The main character is telling the story of his family’s past
His sister is in the hospital – she attempted suicide
The story is both heartbreaking and true-to- life
Well written.
Classic Conroy. Bring out the tissues, man.
Pat Conroy – All that needs to be said.
Well written and spell binding.
Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. Movie wasn’t bad either, lol
Very good and entertaining, sad but funny too.
This was a second read for me for this book. I read it several years ago and remembered it as being a powerful testimony to the tragic obstacles some are required to overcome in their adult lives. It is a book that tells of the secrets and pains some must endure.
