Penny doesn’t dream about a prince coming to save her from the trailer park. She knows better than that.
And the boy she finds hiding in the woods out back is too wild and dangerous to trust. But he may be her only chance at survival. From New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren comes an emotional new spin-off series. THE PRINCE is a 13,000-word prologue to the new Masterpiece duet.
Penny’s lived a hard life in her first seven years. Her mother is a drug addict with a penchant for dealers with pretty boy good looks, she almost drowns in the lake, then loses her mother to the needles and finds her in the bathtub. Her father is on parole from prison and a gambler. What started as a once in awhile thing, turns into a habit of benders until finally her father doesn’t come home. That’s when she meets Damon Scott down by the lake with his backpack and sleeping bag. This is their story.
As I try to write this review I’m doing so with a large knot in my throat. Skye Warren has started a tale about two young people that quickly pulled me in and made me want to tell them everything will be alright. I knew once I started, I wouldn’t be able to put it down and neither will you.
This is where we first meet Penny and Damon it gives us a better understanding as to how they began. This is when they were just kids and how they met before reading the King it shows us a piece of the past. It was page turning and I loved it completely!
Great book
I enjoyed the prequel to The King; it ends on a cliff hanger and I’m diving right into the next book. This prequel does need to be read before The King.
I read The Pawn first, and I initially disliked Damon. He was a great character in the book–just after reading The Pawn he didn’t seem like a nice guy. He’s the epitome of a morally gray character, which makes this series with him compelling. I’m glad the prequel went back to Damon and Penny’s childhood because it humanized both of them. I’m crossing my fingers The King will live up to expectations.
I love the Tanglewood characters and their antics.
I’m very excited to finally hear more about Damon, and what his story is!
I always wondered if we would learn about the mysterious Damon. I wondered if we would learn the story of the girl in the pool.
It seems everyone has a price just as everyone has a story. The Prince is the tease to get you invested in the next part of this story. I can’t wait to learn more. I NEED to know more. I want it all. I want to see just what is in store.
I am so excited about this series and I was equally excited to get my hands on the prologue to The King. I’ve wanted Damon’s story since I finished The Castle. If this prologue is anything like The King is going to be then we are all in for one heck of a ride with Damon. In this prologue we get to see Damon as a boy and how he meets a sweet girl of six who has the worlds most horrible dad and is left alone more times than not. Though it turns out he is a horrible gambler and in debt to some very powerful people. Penny finds Damon hiding in the woods behind her trailer and she knows that he is to wild to trust but he is trying his best to protect her from his father Jonathan Scott. He might just have to sacrifice himself to get the job done but he is nothing but determined and disappears from Penny’s life for some time. Imagine her surprise when he suddenly shows up again and what his intentions are.
I loved every second of this prologue to The King and so can not wait to dive deeply into the entire book.
original, interesting and a little creepy. Almost like an adult Beauty and the Beast. I liked that it had no sex, cursing or real violence. It has enduced me to read the next one.
I surely did not know what to expect when I read this prologue but I know it grabbed my attention and held it. I never say what the book is about but prologue or not I intend to follow thru with this author. It grabs you and holds on until you finish it and of course leaves you wondering what will happen now. Rare find!
OH MY FUCKING GOSH! I don’t know what else to say but OMFG. This is an amazing introduction into a dark, deadly and masterful world. I can not wait to keep reading this series. I also loved the fact that it’s all from Penny’s POV. Skye Warren was the first author I ever read in the dark romance genre and every time I pick up one of her books she blows me away and I can never get enough. OMFG I can’t wait to read more about Penny and Damon in the Masterpiece Trilogy.
****I received an ARC copy from the author for an honest review****
This was a good short story & has made me look forward to more about Penny.
Penny has it tough as a kid, loses a parent & has a lackluster one take it’s place. While she is 7 years old and her only surviving parent is on a 2 week bender she meets Damon. Events transpire and Damon leaves and doesn’t come back. She was sad and guilty about what happened for some time. The story ends when she is 15 and things are mostly better until Damon reappears.
Give it a try … now on to the next book!
This left me wanting, I need to get the second book, but the first was so short, just got you interested and then pulled out. Little to early to tell, I’m not sure if I’m gonna buy the second. I wish there would have been an other chapter or two just to get me totally addicted. just not sure yet.
But I liked how the characters started to develop.
Loved this book! This author never disappoints!
Skye Warren promises another dark and delicious journey in this Masterpiece Duet.
The Prince takes us back to the beginning of Damon and Penny’s story, an older, protective ‘wild boy’ and a frightened and desperate ‘baby genius’, both trying to avoid the world Jonathan Scott would rule. Until the day that Damon makes a choice and Penny understands his sacrifice.
Get ready for The King!
