For readers who like a little romance with their historical fiction. Wickedly inviting, the dark side of life has always seduced Lauren De Beauville. With copper-colored tresses and the smile of a pirate, this young adventuress throws caution to the wind and leaps into a quagmire of temptation that is 18th-century New York. Will she survive her constant craving for danger?
Dazzled by glamour, … glamour, Lauren plays a deadly game joining a group of brutal con artists and smugglers who are cheating their way across the New World. There are splendid gowns, handsome men, and nights filled with passion. What more could she want? At the very top is James St. Clare, the ruthless yet alluring captain of a ship called The Pride of the King. Risking her life and her love, Lauren allows herself to be swept into his whirlwind of desire and treachery where she risks everything.
Once again, author Amanda Hughes splashes the pages of history with adventure and love stories about audacious women in the 18th century. Her page-turning tales will keep you on the edge of your seat as you take a wild ride through one of the most passionate and dazzling periods of history.

Judging the book by its cover, I thought I was in for some watered down, pseudo feminist, regency romance. You know the type: young girl struggles alone, vows she will never marry because she doesn’t need a man, only to become an insipid, vacuous female once she meets THE man. I’ve never enjoyed being wrong so much.

Loved this book. Great story and great characters!
This was fun.
The setting in early America makes for a fun read
Not your usual romance. It is full of adventure and trials for the Lauren, the leading lady.
Great story about those alone in this world.
Intense plot and characters…
Awesome, I loved the characters. ..couldn’t put this one down until I read it All!
Quickly moving and varied plot. A truly enjoyable read!
This book was so entertaining and I could not put it down. I like reading about historical times.
Adventure, a little history, a little romance. Good read
It was a wonderful read and it did not have the expected ending. Loved, love, love it.
Enough historical realism to keep my interest. The characters were realistic and engaging. Story line believable and clever. I had to read the next book and follow the author.
I loved this book. It was filled with great characters and lots of action, set in a fascinating historical era. Reminded me of a series that I read many years ago, and which had always been my favorites. Now, this book will be high on that list!
Not your normal everyday predictable romance! Great story!
Very rarely do I give a book 5 Stars. I loved The Pride of the King so much. It was a refreshingly pristine plot with wonderful characters. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and was sad when it ended. Well written, free from a ton of errors, flowed smoothly, and completely entertaining!
It was way to long. Author could have done same with less. I like the characters but story line meh
In the end I enjoyed the story but the early chapters were jumping too fast and I found it hard to stay reading. Strong characters later in the book made me finish. You need the early chapters to get the story line, but maybe dating sections within a chapter would have helped. I did enjoy the history throughout the book.
There were ups and downs in relationships throughout the book but lots of adventure, adversity, suspense and kept my interest.
I couldn’t finish the book, it’s so horrible and boring
