Former Navy SEAL Hamilton Jones thought that the love of his life was dead. But when a girl claiming to be his daughter shows up with a dire message from his wife, Ham knows he will stop at nothing to find her and bring her home.
Kidnapped by rebels while serving as an interpreter in Ukraine, Signe Kincaid has spent the past decade secreting out valuable information about Russian assets in the US … assets in the US to her CIA handler. She’s ready to give her life for her country, and she can hardly expect Ham to rescue her after breaking his heart over and over.
When Ham discovers the reason Signe has kept her distance, he must choose between love for his wife and love for the nation he has vowed to protect. Will he save the many? Or the few?

The Price of Valor
This book was a book I couldn’t put down until I read that last sentence! I read it in one day, start to finish, but went to bed around midnight knowing what happened!
But the parts before that were the hold your breath kind! I found myself several times needing to stop and take a breath, I hadn’t realized I was holding it. During a rescue operation, the unthinkable happens and then another, and yep – I was into the story and you couldn’t have removed it from hands if you wrestled me for it!
The suspense was through the roof. The romance, ah, the romance was sweet and tumultuous at the same time. The characters throughout this book were so interesting, you find yourself rooting for each of them every step of the way.
I highly recommend this book. If you’ve read the first two in the three book series, you need this one, too. If you haven’t, you could still read this book and thoroughly enjoy it. And then you’ll catch Global Search and Rescue-itis and want the other two! And if you’re a Montana Marshall fan … yeah, might be one of those in this book, too!
Disclaimer: I have received a print copy of this book with no expectation in return from the publisher. The words and opinions above are my own.
Goodness! This is another action packed and exciting addition to the Global Search and Rescue series. In this story, we read more of Hamilton Jones’ story and see his wife and CIA agent Signe as she is on the run in Europe. Ham and a few of his team are sent to try to find a CIA agent, called Three, who has a list of agents that if it gets in the wrong hands could be bad. It is thought that it might be Signe. As Ham, Orion, and his girlfriend Jenny reach Sicily, a volcano hits the town and everything goes into survival mode and the team is separated at the time. Ham is able to find Signe and they are together as they fight their way through the event while Orion and Jenny manage to find each other. What a wild time they have getting through this disaster, avoid bad guys, and figure things out. There is a rogue factor in the CIA somewhere. Signe doesn’t want Ham there as she has a job to do. But whose side is she on? The US or terrorists? Orion and Jenny love each other but are having troubles too. Problems don’t end when they evidentially make it back on US soil. Signe’s past is quite complicated and I won’t get into. But somehow things are involved in the Presidential candidates. This is complicated plot with twists and turns and has multiple layers that go on to the very end. As in SMW style, this is an action packed page turner with plenty of suspense sprinkled with faith, romance, and life lesson.
I received a complimentary ARC from Revell through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
THE PRICE OF VALOR….Susan May..Warren
Ham just found out this ten year old girl Maggie was his, when Signe left her, with words don’t try to find me. Her misplaced ideals had cost her, the country versus the love of Ham. Raising her daughter in a terrorist’s camp, till a brief moment, she was able to slip Maggie to him. A good conclusion for the series, showing learning to trust and forgiveness. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by ?Net Galley and Reveal
Did you ever read a book that was just so good and had such a complex story line you can only say “Wow”. That is is story. So much substance going on. Great characters, great plot, great ending. A woman who gave up everyting for her country, her husband, her self respect and then her daughter. When Signe knows she can’t keep their daughter safe any longer she drops her off to Ham and disappears again. This time Ham will not give up and will find her. What ensues is a plot against the president, unknown dangers, and deception which all comes to a climactic conclusion. The best part of the story is Ham’ s forgiveness for his wife and what he does to make her believe it. I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is book three in The Global Search and Rescue series and it is Hamilton and Signe’s story and omg what a story it is. Ham thought that his wife was dead but then a girl showed up and said she was his daughter and she also had a message from his wife, rescuing her is his only option as he never stopped loving her. Signe was kidnapped years ago and she is also a spy and to keep her family safe she had to take her own death but now she has been discovered and her first thought is to get her daughter to Ham as she knows that he will keep her safe and protect her. Signe knows she broke Hams heart but it was something that she had to do and she doesn’t want him to risk his life to find her as it is too dangerous. Will Ham get to and rescue Signe in time before she is found and will Signe get the important information to the right people before it costs her everything including her life. This is the first book that I have read by Susan May Warren but definitely not the last as this book was amazing and full of twists and turns that keeps you on your toes and you have to keep reading to see what would happen next. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.
I voluntarily reviewed an Arc copy of this Amazing Book.
Thank you in advance to Revell (a division of Baker Books) for providing a complimentary review copy through Library Thing. A positive review was not required and all words are my own.
“The Price of Valor” is the thrilling, high adventure conclusion to the Global Search and Rescue series that started in January with “The Way of the Brave”. Orion and Jenny’s story does get some conclusion in this book.
This is Hamilton “Ham” Jones’ story, most of which was established in the prior book – “The Heart of a Hero”. Jake and Aria are present in this book with the hurricane being mentioned as well.
Since some of the events referenced in this book were previously established in the two prior novels, it is best to read “The Way of the Brave” and “The Heart of a Hero” prior to reading this one. Those two books are how I was introduced to Warren’s suspense line. I do have a romance book of hers that I got for free but have yet to read.
There is a mention of rape in this novel. This is an off-page, prior to the book’s beginning event. Readers sensitive to that subject might want to take caution when reading it.
“The Price of Valor” is a multi-faceted, fast-paced, thrilling read set with a touch of international spy intrigue. Written intensely from the beginning with a natural disaster (volcano anyone?) to start things off, the pacing doesn’t stop thanks to Warren’s vivid and descriptive writing. It was definitely an exciting, thrilling, edge of seat intense read that produced some heart-stopping and head-whipping moments. There were a few issues with some past/present scene transitions which could be confusing though it doesn’t take away from the story.
In addition to more of Jenny’s background being revealed, so too is Ham’s which is expected since this is his story.
I was slow to get into this one for some reason, but as I stayed with it, it picked up and left me not wanting to put it down. Worse once it got halfway. I did find I liked it the best of the series, and it had far less technical language. As a Revell Reads reviewer for book one (#1) and winning book two (#2), I was eager to see how the series was going to end.
There is a hot issue in this novel with the Russia/election deal and some readers might find this a bit too close to reality. And, it could seem like this novel has political undertones – which it does, to a point.
The intensity of the intrigue and plot added to the enjoyment of this novel. It was slightly predictable which was Signe was going to turn. But, the author did her best to stir up quite a bit of doubt.
Somewhat spoiler here – fans of the Montana Marshalls series (“Knox”, “Tate”, “Ford”, “Wyatt”, and “Ruby Jane”) will be glad to see the return of some of the main characters (Ford, and Ruby Jane), a mention of one (Knox) and a supportive one from that series (Scarlett) appears here as well.
I enjoyed the Shakey’s Pizza reference as it was part of my childhood when I lived in California. I also enjoyed the “I Will Always Love You” (Dolly Parton) song inclusion as well.
This story, unlike some, is not wrapped up in the matter of days or weeks; it does go about one (1) to two (2) months, which is pretty interesting. Usually stories that drag out that become boring and monotonous. Not this one. It is hard to tell a story such as this without rushing it or dragging it along. Warren obviously masters story telling in keeping this interesting.
There is a lot of high-octane drama that seems natural with the series. I’m wondering what Warren has planned next and who next we’ll see.
As it is distributed by a Christian/Faith themed publisher, there are loads of references to God, prayers, and lots of bible quotes. Though, given what Ham and his crew does for a living – this is to be expected.
Fans of the author, the previous two books, and the Montana Marshalls series will more than likely enjoy this.
As soon as I can save up the money, I’ll probably be adding “Knox”, “Tate”, “Ford”, “Wyatt”, and “Ruby Jane” to my library – they’re on the Amazon wish list for certain.
Wow . . . just wow! This book is fast paced and kept my heart racing most of the time I was reading.
Ham is a former SEAL who lost the love of his life, Signe when she was kidnapped by a terrorist warlord ten years earlier. Ham and Signe had been childhood friends and then more and married on a whim. He never stopped loving her and when he finally got the chance to go after her, he jumped at it. Two months earlier, she had shown up with Aggie, his ten year old daughter, who he didn’t even know existed before then. Then, she disappeared from his life again and told him to forget her and not to try and find her. Ham couldn’t not try to find in a terrorist training camp for ten years.
As always, Mrs. Warren’s books are an amazing read, full of depth and wonderful character development. I love how she ties in characters from previous series and expands their stories, too. From the very first book of hers that I read years ago, I was hooked and will forever be a SMW fan. She is a Christian author that teaches good lessons without it sounding preachy. Her characters are real people that make real mistakes and have real weaknesses; ones that I could find myself being friends with.
I was given an arc copy of this book but I would have bought it anyway because I love her wringing so much. I willingly offer my honest review.
Where is God in all this mess, Jenny asks.
A new friend answers, Can’t He stop the volcanoes, the earthquakes, the tsunami‘s? Yes. But this is also the natural order of the world. Tragedies happen. People get hurt. People hurt other people. But it’s in suffering, as well as joy, that we find our faith. In times of trouble, we either draw near, or we run.
The story of Ham and Signe. Two broken people with heartache from painful and abusive childhoods and they found strength in each other.
They became fast friends and then more. They got married, she had their child but Ham didn’t know he was a father for 10 years. Now he’s convinced Singe is still alive and he’s going to find her.
In this action packed follow up to the last book we find Ham and friends overseas fighting for their lives through natural disasters, and misplaced trust in the wrong people. This story has intrigue, spies, double cross, tender moments, action, deep conversations, and kept me hooked from the beginning.
Ham needs to forgive himself and Signe while she needs to do the same. The kind of searching Ham does for Signe is like God chasing after us!
One quote from Signe says, The man it’s like a fire hose with his love and forgiveness, and frankly, it’s like I’m drowning. I want to open my heart to him, but it’s not pretty in there. I mean, there are a lot of scars and wounds and I just don’t know if I have it in me to receive grace.
Just as Ham and Signe needed to find truth and listen to the truth, in life we need to do that too. So many teaching moments in this story didn’t just come from the characters to each other but also spoke to my heart of who God is and who He says I am.
The author wrote a powerful story of love, redemption, forgiveness, soul searching and an introspective look inside each one of us as we looked inside Ham, Signe, Jenny and Orion.
She has done it again and knocked it out of the park with a story that brings in characters you know from past books but gives you enough of the background that you aren’t lost if you haven’t read them. I loved the way she helped to flesh out the characters even more as they went through life and trials and shared real emotion. The people felt like ones I would know.
I recommend this book and look forward to reading the next one.
This book was provided to me from Revell Publishing for my honest review.
The Price of Valor is Susan May Warren at her best. This is the story of Ham and Signe, who were childhood friends and later, sweethearts. Following a marriage and deployment, Ham made his mark on the world as a SEAL and, unbeknownst to Ham, Signe joined the CIA with hopes of helping to keep America safe from terrorists. Many years pass before they see each other again, and with those years come secrets. Betrayals, intrigue, truths and lies, guilt and regrets surface as Ham and his team try to locate the true source of danger to the free world. The pivotal point in the story happens at the presidential Inaugural Balls. Will the good guys win? Will Ham and Signe get their HEA ending?
The Price of Valor shares the message of forgiveness and the steadfastness of God’s promises, as well as the hope for new beginnings. Excellent storytelling with a strong plot, including heroes and heroines, come together in a riveting suspense worthy of 5 stars!
The Global Search and Rescue series by Susan May Warren has been a rip-roaring, action packed, suspense filled crazy ride, and The Price of Valor is the nail-biting conclusion that wraps it all up. I’ve been waiting for Hamilton Jones’s story throughout this series and was cheering for him to have a happy ending. Warren keeps the reader guessing with many twists and turns throughout the tale. It’s fun to see the other team members show up during the story with the continuation of their relationships.
Hamilton and Signe are such intriguing characters, and I enjoyed learning more about their background. I admired Ham’s capacity for forgiveness in extremely difficult circumstances but also his capacity for love and compassion. Warren’s characters are always well-drawn and fascinating, which is one of the many reasons I enjoy her stories.
At times I felt the nonstop action was a bit over the top in this book with one adrenaline rush after another. Some of the happenings seemed quite unrealistic to me, and I was left feeling that, although I liked the team members, I’d hate to hang out with them because they were constantly in danger from one thing or another. I was sometimes wishing for just one boring day. I guess it was a good thing there was a strong faith element, because they needed it to just survive and get through each day. All in all, it’s been a great series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. All opinions are my own.
Such a high adrenaline rush of suspense and action! It starts on the very first page and doesn’t stop until the end. Ham and his team experience one threat after another both from natural disasters and terrorists.
I was so invested in the characters and in their getting a happy ending that it was impossible to put this book down, however, I did not enjoy it as much as the first two books in the series. Some of the plot line was just too unbelievable for me despite being in such suspense. Signe was an intense new character who has a long journey of healing ahead and Ham has got to be the most patient man in the entire universe. I appreciated the themes of forgiveness, especially of forgiving yourself, but there were a few times when the characters felt like they were preaching to the reader rather than the other character. I really enjoyed seeing Orion and Jenny’s story from the first book play out as they are some of my favorite characters from the series.
I would definitely say that you need to read this series in order or you will most likely be very confused. I did enjoy the book, like all of Susan’s that I have read, this just wasn’t my favorite in the series.
I received a complimentary copy but it in no way affected my review.
A stunning read that has you turning pages as fast as you can this is book that once I started it I couldn’t put it down. A fast paced action thriller that drags you half way across the world as former Navy SEAL Hamilton Jones and his SAR team not only try to keep their country safe but also rescue Harms wife a woman he has believed dead for years only to now discover she has been undercover after been kidnapped in the Ukraine and all this time she has been feeding information to the CIA. Can he forgive her for the pain she has put him through Can he save her and can they have a future together You will have to read to see
Oh wow, was that an on the edge of my seat adventure! I can’t remember, did I even breathe while reading this book?! I must have but seriously, it felt like I was holding my breath the whole time. This story is fast paced and just doesn’t let up. I found myself surprised a couple of times and I really like that.
One thing I really like about this series is that it follows several characters in each book. While this book give focus to Ham and Signe, Orion’s and Jenny’s continued story is going on as well. There is so much going on. Oh, and there were cross over characters from previous series as well! That was fun!
I’m not sure I had a ton of emotional connection to the characters but I liked them a lot. I felt invested in their outcome. It’s really hard not to like people who put so much on the line to save other people. Heroes are the best kinds of characters. Noble, brave, sacrificing everything. Warren always gives her characters plenty of mental/spiritual/emotional growth which helps me feel like they are human with flaws even though they are pretty much saving the world. It’s always a good balance.
Is this really the end of this series? Sad. But I was sure grateful for the ending where happy endings reigned supreme. It always feels good to reach a satisfying, positive conclusion. I can’t wait to see where this author goes next!
Content: peril, violence, mention of rape, abuse and abortion. Talk of God and religious elements. Death. Kissing.
– I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Knowing that his wife, Signe, was dead completely devastated former Navy SEAL Hamilton Jones. He was blessed when his daughter, Aggie, who he did not know about arrived. Aggie is ten years old and tells him that Signe is still alive and has been held all these years. No matter what he has to do, he will rescue Signe and bring her home. I had read the previous book in this series, but this one was more difficult to read. There were so many characters coming in and out of the story, that it was hard to know who was who and how they were related. I always make brief notes, i.e. character names and relationships, etc., as I read so that if the story gets complicated that I can somehow follow along, but I was still lost some of the time. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Amazing ride! This books starts the reader on a roller coaster ride and doesn’t slow down until the end. Hamilton Jones thought his wife had been killed years before when his daughter that he didn’t know he had shows up. Turns out Signe has been running for her life trying to protect her daughter from the people who are trying to kill her. Ham has to decide if has truly forgiven Signe and if he can trust her again while trying to keep them all alive.
The Price of Valor is the third and final book in the Global Search and Rescue series by Susan May Warren. I admit it’s not my favorite book in the series (Jake and Aria have that honor) but it was still an incredible finale to the series. I’ve been just waiting to learn the backstory between Hamilton Jones and his presumed dead wife Signe. Filled with suspense and interpersonal tension, this book does not disappoint. I had a hard time warming up to Signe at first. It took a while to really understand some of the choices she made and what her motivation was. Still, she and Ham were perfect for each other and it was heart-wrenching watching them work through all the past hurts in their relationship.
After the avalanche in the first book and a hurricane in the second I was excited to see what natural disaster we were in for next – a volcanic eruption followed by a tsunami! What an amazing backdrop as Signe and Ham fought for survival and for their relationship.
Warren seamlessly weaves lessons of faith throughout the book. The book dealt with forgiveness – forgiving other and forgiving yourself – and remaining hopeful in the midst of overwhelming opposition. It was about learning to trust God and move beyond past circumstances to accept the blessings He has waiting for you just around the corner. It’s about not letting fear rule your choices but trusting God’s plan for your life.
I loved how we could also see previous characters. The ongoing relationship between Jenny and Orion featured prominently in this book as well. Several underlying plots that began in the Marshalls series are also wrapped up.
It was a great read and I highly recommend it.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Tension, danger and action abound in the Global Search and Rescue series! You will admire former SEAL, Ham Jones, who immediately goes into action to rescue the wife he believed dead! Ham’s life has been full of surprises including the arrival in the US of a 10 year old daughter he did not know about! Ham’s wife, Signe, has been willing to give up her life for the United States of America but has proof that the candidate for US Vice President is not loyal to America. Ham and his friends experience a volcanic eruption followed by a tsunami! The Price of Valor includes one crisis after another! Ham’s team members, Orion and Jenny, are still trying to work through their own problems! I recommend The Price of Valor to anyone who likes action in their reading! I received an advance e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
Romance clean, contemporary; Series, but stand alone read
Ham and Signe’s story along with a cast of many other characters from other books, not only in this series, but others, was a suspense-filled ride, gorgeous details, and beautiful moments fraught with tension and longing. This was the perfect book for the ending of this series (I think?), and my favorite of all the books in this series. SMW has honed her craft over the years and knows how to pull together the characters, sub characters, and the action/bad guys into a perfectly crafted novel that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and still fill you with hope, and faith in God’s goodness to lead you to your heart home and faith. Loved this read! Of all the books in this series, this was the finest. So many threads came together here that made it even more perfect as a fan of her writing. I do think that do to the suspense setting, you can still read the book without knowing the other threads. This was a don’t put it down, hold on to the edge of your seat with intervals of hope and peace, as the knot unwound to the final conclusion. Strong characters, lots of suspense, gorgeous settings in Europe and in the US, plus faith, and of course, family, friends, and romance.
So grateful to the publisher for letting me read an ARC via NetGalley. My opinions are my own, although I will characterize this by saying, I am a fan!
Can he forgive her? Can she forgive herself?
How do you top a white-out rescue on top of Denali and a terrorist attack? Why, with a category five hurricane and a terrorist kidnapping attempt, of course. But how do you top that? Why, with a volcano and a terrorist assassination plot, of course. Seriously, I had no clue how Susan May Warren could possibly up the ante after the last book in the Global Search And Rescue series, but, then I read The Price Of Valor and I found out exactly how.
Prior to the Global Search And Rescue series I had only read Susan May Warren’s contemporary romance. I had no clue just how good her romantic suspense could be. Believe me, she aces both genres like nobody’s business. And The Price Of Valor is the icing on this truly scrumptious suspense cake.
The Price Of Valor is the book that I’ve been waiting for and anticipating the most. Like Ham, I just HAD to know the truth about Signe and find out if forgiveness would triumph and if they would get their chance at a happy ever after. More like a spy thriller than just standard romantic suspense, the book was all I had hoped for and more. I’d swear that author Susan May Warren could have ripped parts of the story from today’s headlines. Kinda scary when truth and fiction are so close…
In my opinion you can’t miss by choosing The Price Of Valor from Susan May Warren as your next read. You might even want to bump it up to the top of your TBR stack…
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Hamilton Jones and his estranged wife, Signe, are the main focus for the finale of Susan May Warren’s Global SAR trilogy. This intriguing edition completes the continuing storyline that began with the Montana Marshalls’ premiere, “Knox.” Although reading the previous books is quite helpful, it is not necessary as there are bits of recap for the new reader. This satisfying conclusion fully loads intense action, drama and much-needed redemption of favorite characters in the current series. The Price of Valor is full of both nail-biting suspense and genuine surprises.
Warren packs inspirational messages in her character journeys that are always encouraging to readers: devastation to hope, shame to grace and isolation to forgiveness. The running thread of these connected series is renewal and restoration, which are, indeed, valuable concepts to grasp and obtain.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
