When it was announced that a series of books about female billionaires were in the works, I was beyond excited, especially with the authors involved. Like with many of Lucy Score’s books, The Price of Scandal was another hit!
The vagillionaire (coined by one of the hilarious secondary characters) in this story, Emily Stanton was amazing! Even though she was born into money, she worked her tail off to build and become the CEO of Flawless, a billion dollar skin care company. She is intelligent, successful, driven, a closet science geek, and her life seemed so perfect. Unfortunately, not all is as it seems, she is a workaholic to the extreme, not having a real life and a lot of family problems. Life becomes so much more complicated with a scandal not of her making, so unfortunately, she is now in need of a fixer. This is where Derek Price comes in, he is the founder of the Alpha Group, who was hired by Emily’s Board to make the scandal go away and make her more approachable. After a few failed attempts to get Emily’s attention, Derek’s solution was one of the best first meet ever!! Derek was absolutely perfect, he was amazing with Emily. He knew exactly what needed to be done to help Emily with her reputation and her company, but he also does so much more for her. I adored how he loved everything about her, the corporate Emily and the secret nerdy Emily. He saw through all of her masks and was able to chip through her walls. I loved their chemistry and especially the banter between these two.
There was also a bit of mystery involved that almost derailed Emily and Derek’s happily ever after, but their connection was strong so it did not take too long for them to figure out what was going on and work together to take down those who was out to hurt them. I loved the way the villain got what they deserved.
The secondary characters are the absolute best! Her three best friends are nutty, hilarious and love Emily so much. I seriously can not wait for their stories! I also have to give a shout out to Emily’s driver/bodyguard, Jane. She was hilarious with her dry humor and one liners. I also can not forget to mention the non-human secondary characters, animals always make the story that much better. We have a free range butt-sniffing Saint Bernard, a foul-mouth parrot and a prosthetic wearing alligator, who made a deal with the residents of the community; a rotisserie chicken every night and he won’t eat their pets. I loved it!
The Price of Scandal was a fantastic start to what is looking like an amazing series. A definite 5-star read in my eyes.
This book is hilarious! it’s a different take on the Billionaire world. This time, the women are the top dogs and the men who love them. You meet Emily CEO of Flawless, a Skin care company, who is set up on a blindish date to help get her better newsworthy as an IPO is coming up. However, her date is ruin, and her name is dragged through the wringer, and so enters Derek Price, a fixer in the world of who’s who. There’s a heat between these two that you can feel from the pages. The humor in this book is beyond Lucy Score level. The side characters are one thing, the who place of Bluewater is a side character all in itself. You will laugh your socks off during this book. I can’t wait for the other 3 books in the series but Pippa Grant, Claire Kingsley & Kathyn Nolan!
I’m a huge fan of Lucy Score – have been for a while. So this book is right up my alley. Lucy Score is a rom-com master of Jedi-Yoda proportions, and this is the rom-com you’re looking for.
Emily is feisty, devoted, smart and determined. She appreciates both hard work, devotion and a good cocktail, and she’s got some seriously tough family relationships and a PR nightmare to navigate to get her IPO nailed down. That is where Derek comes in.
Derek is swoony, brash but in a way that only a British fixer can make endearing, and busts through Emily’s defenses. He’s what she needs because she’s never had someone that puts her first, and he does that from the minute he meets her, and not just because it’s his job.
As expected from Lucy Score, the main characters are extremely relatable, even though in this book they are billionaires. Plus Lucy’s side characters are amazing as well. Jane, Emily’s bodyguard, just wants a chance to use her taser, dammit! She’s strong, devoted, witty and amazing. And Emily’s friends, that will be featured in the shared-world books, are great, too. I wish I had girlfriends that swoop in with food and drink when I need a pick-me-up.
Add to all of this some serious business shenanigans, shrewd problem solving, and a great pre-nup, and you’ll be happy you read this book, too.
**There were some members of the human race who made it their duty to tear others down, tried to destroy them. And then there were the Emily Stantons of the world. Ones who cared and fixed and tried to make things better.**
Emily Stanton, closet nerd and badass billionaire, is a little closed off from the world. She shows people the side of herself that she thinks they need to see in order to get what she needs done accomplished. Aside from a small group of spectacularyly amazing friends she is all business until a scandal threatens to derail her plans.
**””Fuck,” I breathed. Where was that control I was so proud of? “You must have left it in your other pants,” Emily whispered. And now I was speaking my inner thoughts out loud. The woman was a witch. An enchanting temptress. “What are you doing?” I gritted out the words. She dipped lower until we were nose to nose. “Winning.”**
Derek Price is a fixer. He knows his way around the media and how to restore reputations. Insert the meet nude, and we have the makings for one heck of a wild ride. I love this guy. He is confident, manly, a little dangerous, and a whole lot sexy.
True to Lucy Score style, the secondary characters are stellar. The good guys that I can’t help but love and the bad guys that I love to hate are plentiful. Lucy Score’s writing is perfection. She sucks you into her fictional world and brings it to life, every time. As always she has left me wanting more of these characters. I can’t wait for the next three installments of the Bluewater Billionaires by Claire Kingsley, Kathryn Nolan, and Pippa Grant.
Emily freaking Stanton. That should be all that really needs to be said. But wait…there’s more! Emily is the badass billionairess with many layers. When an unfortunate scandal focuses on Emily and the company she built, image fixer Derek Price is called in to salvage their reputations. He never crosses the line with a client but Emily makes him want to obliterate it. He’s never been so intrigued by such a controlled but empowering person before.
This is another must-read book by Lucy Score. I am looking forward to the three companion books by Claire Kingsley, Kathryn Nolan and Pippa Grant set in the Bluewater Billionaires world featuring Emily Stanton’s BFFs.
Emily is beautiful, powerful, super-rich, uber-intelligent and 100% human. She is fierce and I loved her. She also has a heart of gold with a mission that goes beyond making money and encompasses much bigger goals that affect normal people’s everyday lives. Not any man can be a partner for a woman like that, but Derek can. He is cocky (pun intended), self-assured, charming, and just exactly what she needs. He respects her for all of the right reasons and earns her respect in return. Their chemistry is off the charts and their relationship builds on exposing their vulnerabilities to each other, trusting each other, and supporting each other through what becomes some difficult times.
This is the first book in the Bluewater Billionaire series and the description of the world these awesome ladies live is so vivid that I feel like I have been allowed into the minds of these authors. I am thrilled. There are some fun Easter eggs in the story as we see some characters we know from other books and the four authors themselves in the story. I was so excited as I read that my husband expressed concern for me. I just sat giggling, laughing, and saying OH!
Aside from our billion-heiresses, there are so many interesting secondary character to get to know. Many are developed so well I see them in their own book (Pretty please???) I am beyond excited about this series as these authors take the billionaire trope and turn it around with strong, interesting, powerful women in charge. The book is well written with humor, heart and divine characters. I really enjoyed this book and it was the highlight of my weekend. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
What’s not to love about this book??? A swoony, sexy, dirty talking, semi British alpha! A driven, smart as a whip, heart of gold billionaire heroine!! The story is smooth and moves right among. The supporting characters are amazing!! Add in a scandal, a foul mouthed parrot, and amputee gator for the win!!
It’s nice to have a billionaire women series! I can’t wait for the next 3 books!!!
Loved this one! Enjoyed this one immensely! & finally we have some wonderful books about Lady Billionaires to look forward to reading. I love a girl who can stand up for herself & Emily Stanton is definitely that girl! Emily & Derek had a wonderfully unique meeting & I truly enjoyed their bantering throughout this book. The storyline was only made sweeter with all the amazing characters!
This book flips your billionaire trope on its head. Your heroine Emily is the titular Billionaire. She and her three Billionaire Besties make up the Bluewater Billionaires. The other three ladies have stories coming soon. I CAN’T WAIT!!
Emily is the CEO of Flawless, her company that she built of her blood, sweat, tears, and trust fund money. Instead of playing like many trust fund babies she put her money to work for her. Now she’s a workaholic who is somewhat of a micromanager. Until she gets caught in a scandal.
Enter Naked Meet Cute with Alpha Group Owner Derek who she finds lounging naked in her bathtub. Before she can get Jane her bodyguard/assistant to stun him With her taser, he lets her know that her Board hired him to help “manage” her scandal and redeem her image.
Livid that her Board went behind her back over something that wasn’t her fault has her determined to not like Derek or want to have anything to do with him. However the sparks begin to fly and before long Emily doesn’t know what she would do without him.
This is a stand alone but characters from the other Bluewater Billionaires appear and there are some fun cameos. I might have shrieked out loud over one of them. Drag Queen Brunches, Stun Gun happy assistants, bloody Mary bars, and an alligator named Steve had me laughing out loud and loving EVERY minute of this read.
I can’t wait for the next books in this series and hope to see more of Emily and Derek.
Wonderful and refreshing storyline. Emily is beautiful, wealthy and brilliant.
Running her company successfully until she is sabotaged. What a story! We have a very hot romance, family dysfunction and serious life changing work. I loved this book so much. Yay Lucy!!
Lucy Score has started off the Bluewater Billionaires series with a bang!
This book’s setting of Miami is different from the small towns of Blue Moon and Bootleg Springs, but her characters are still strong and interesting and the writing is still witty and well paced.
I love that Lucy and the other authors of this series are taking the billionaire trope and turning it on its head. Emily is a smart, driven, and hard working billionaire with a love for the science that has made her company successful. Derek is successful in his own right, handsome, and intelligent. My favorite thing about him, though, is how he is proud of and amazed constantly by Emily. It was refreshing to see a male character not act like Emily being an accomplished woman is taking something away from him.
There are a number of Easter Eggs and little details that fans of the four authors of this series will love. After meeting Emily’s friends, the other three female billionaires, I cannot wait to read their stories next!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
Fabulous!!
Emily Stanton appears to have it all! She’s a billionaire running her own company with the help of a friend, and she’s getting ready for an IPO that will make her even richer! She has a close group of friends, and she rarely does anything that could be perceived as questionable. However, she loses all sense of normal when she agrees to go out and “be seen” on the arm of a man who does not have the best reputation. Her night turns to a disaster when she steps from his car, and they are promptly surrounded by police. Even though she was not charged or involved in his drug bust, Emily’s reputation is shot by the paparazzi snapping photos of her being cuffed and taken into custody.
Emily‘s board of directors hires Emily a fixer…Derek Price. He knows how to make an entrance and he knows how to fix situations like this as long as a Emily does exactly as he says. Emily and Derek spar regularly, but they do work to show Emily as a real person, and it is working! But who is behind the scandal and how will they get beyond this scandal?
I loved this first book in the Bluewater Billionaire series! I can’t wait for the rest of the books about the 4 billionaire women of Bluewater! This book was absolutely fabulous!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Emily and Derek two very strong people. OMG this book is funny and I love the fact of a strong women. There are so many things to love in this book just go get it. Highly recommended
Normally, I don’t love Billionaire books, however, this book has a lot to love. Emily, the Billionaire, is a scientific genus (and a bada$$). She’s a bit trapped by her well heeled family, and owns a skin care product business. As the acting CEO she controls all aspects of the business but longs to be in the lab. A blind date set up for appearances Puts Emily in a vulnerable position. Enter, Derick Price, he’s got layers, he is in the business of spinning things and changing public opinions. He takes Emily on as a client to repair her reputation. Lots and lots happen in the story and along the way we have the pleasure of meeting Jane (not a Billionaire but a straight up bada$$),
Luna, Cam and Daisy who we’ll meet in the rest of this series. This is an excellent story with a lot of depth and will make you pause and think. If you’re fans of the authors there are some pretty spectacular Easter Eggs!
It’s not often the heroine that’s in need of help when it comes to PR for their company or personal life, but that’s the predicament that Bluewater Billionaire Emily Stanton finds herself in. She’s normally a good girl and a workaholic, she’s forced to work with Derek Price, the man her board of directors has hired to fix her problems.
Derek expects a haughty ice queen but finds far more in Emily than he bargained for.
This is a sweet, snarky story filled with laughter and heat, with plenty of sass and a couple of characters that teach each other to never judge a book by its cover. I’m looking forward to the next three.
Emily. Is. My. New. Hero. (Lucy always has been)
I love the idea of this series Bluewater Billionaires. How many romances have we read that had a billionaire who was a man who swept a woman off of her feet? This is not that type of series. In this series we have a VERY diverse group of women who are billionaires who are so STRONG. They don’t need a man to be successful or happy. The drag queen breakfast, the cameo appearances of the authors in the book, I loved it all.
I loved Emily Stanton, billionaire chemist, who has been spending her life building her business and wants to take it to the next step. When a publicity stunt goes wrong she needs a fixer.
Enter Derek, a male Olivia Pope, but so much better. I loved their meet-cute. Breaking into someone’s home and surprising them after taking a bath in their home? Pick pocketing those who need a healthy dose of karma? Derek is beautifully flawed and has risen above it all to create his own success.
Emily needs Derek to appear more approachable, something she already was. This was not your typical novel where the heroes NEED each other, but instead each person brings the positives out in each other. I loved everything about this. Lucy Score (and friends) has the ability to create these amazing characters and worlds that make my standards for other authors rise higher.
Having the opportunity to read this book as an ARC was amazing! Lucy is one of my top favorite authors and this book just solidified my love for her!
The Price of Scandal is the first book in The Bluewater Billionaires Series, with each book being written by a different, just as amazing, author. This book focuses on Emily and she meets her match in Derek!
When a scandal rocks everything Emily has worked for in her life, Derek is hired by her board to come in and clean up her image. Little do they know just how deep the scandal runs.
Emily is my spirit animal. She’s a badass billionaire who knows her company, knows her heart but struggles with finding a balance. I feel this in every way, minus the billionaire aspect. Maybe one day. When Derek barges into her life, naked and taking a bath, you can’t help but fall in love with him from the beginning. You can hear his accent as you’re reading and everything about him is just swoon worthy!
Derek is an alpha male who knows his own company, and his business makes it so he knows the workings of Emily, just not the real Emily behind the billionaire badass she portrays. As he starts peeling back her layers, he can’t help but fall in love with her.
As the scandal continues to play around them, they find solace in each other and when they finally give into temptation, its hot! It’s so hot, it’s kindle melting. I had to take a moment and fan myself from the steam coming out of this novel.
Everything about this book is top notch. From the details to the character development, you can’t help but keep turning the page and finding out all you can! I am honestly going to be one of the most impatient people in the world while I wait on the next book, being written by the amazing Claire Kingsley!
FIVE AMAZING STARS! If you haven’t had an opportunity to dive into Lucy Score, now is the best time to find her and dive in! You won’t be sorry!
The Price of Scandal was an incredibly entertaining read. It was 100% fun with all these crazy situations that were playing out. It was fast paced, flirty, and sexy! I enjoyed the overall storyline and had a great time reading it.
Why is it that if a woman is successful, she is always a witch(or the other word that starts with a “b”)?
And why do most the romances have the man as the billionaire and the woman as the assistant?
Well, I am glad that Lucy and friends have changed the mold and created a series where the woman are the billionaires and the men are not. So if you want the dynamic to change, go out, run and buy this book!
Emily is a beautiful successful geek. She grew up as a trust fund child who didn’t really fit into that mold. She was more interested in being in a lab and finding ways to help others and make a difference then having a man take care of her. She started a company with a formula that she created to reduce wrinkles with her college friend and turned it into a billion dollar company.
Derek is a fixer. He was hired to “fix” Emily’s scandal. But there is more than meets the eye with Derek. Let me tell you ladies, he’s your next book boyfriend! Not only is he scorching hot, but he can fix/cut your hair and is a bad boy on the side.
Emily does have a great support system in her 3 billionaire best friends who were each so different from each other as they could be. Cam is an aerospace mogul, Luna is a zen loving, vegan makeup company owner and Daisy is fun loving billionaire playgirl. They all created a community where they all live. The residents are as crazy and lovable, that you come to expect from any of Lucy Scores’ books. There is a prosthetic wearing alligator, inappropriate parrot, and large nomad dog that add to fun.
The fun starts when Emily wants to move her company to the next level, but she needs to up her public appearances. So she agrees to a date with a son of an entrepreneur. The the date goes horribly wrong and they are arrested in front of paparazzi. In comes Derek to fix her image and help her loss her “masks” and became who she really wants to be.
There is a great “meet-naked”, drag queen brunches, cameo’s of our favorite authors, and tiny houses kind of story. A fun rom-com that changes our views on billionaire woman and the dynamic of relationships. hint…the man doesn’t always have to be the bread winner to hold his alpha status.
I have really been looking forward to this new series and The Price of Scandal is an absolutely amazing start!
When Emily hits rock bottom, Derek steps in to polish up her image and save her company. Except she doesn’t want his help and he doesn’t care. What follows is hilarious and sexy. And did I mention hilarious? Because it is really laugh out loud funny.
I loved Emily and Derek: their snarky banter, their insane chemistry, their dazzling romance. I loved the sweet but wacky cast of secondary characters. I love the idea of four strong lady billionaire friends and the stories we have to look forward to!
I sincerely wish I could give this book more than 5 stars!!
