Having read the infidelity series I wanted to know more about Oren Demetri. What makes this man tick and why the relationship he had with his son.
Don’t think you have to read the series before reading The Price of Honor This book is very clever; I read first and wanted to know more about Oren. Others could read this and want to know more about Lennox Demetri and how he developed as a character and some will read Respect and stop at that. Clever writing.
I would say however that if you read The Price of Honor you will feel the need to read the Infidelity series.
Without giving too much away this is a tragic love story. A man who gives his heart to one girl but as with mafia, you don’t just get the girl you get the family too. Drawn in to situations that he understand but doesn’t always want to be part of, the mafia weave their way in to their lives and their marriage.
Family first has many connotations and the impact is felt by all involved.
An insight in to a relationship with the boss, the need to please so many and a drive to better oneself leaves Oren juggling many balls. His ability to do this is explored in a way that Aleatha always does, you know there will be twists and turns. You know there will be a dominant man and quite often a feisty woman. What you don’t know is how this all grabs you.
What you also get is an insight in to marriage, the love of your life and the issues that Oren has with rises from humble beginnings and striving for the best for his family.
It is difficult to review this book without giving too many spoilers. I knew the background to Oren’s life due to reading the series. I knew the marriage outcome; I knew how this book would end. What I did not know was how this book would affect me. The quality of the writing particularly at the end had me ugly crying.
Whether you are new to Aleatha, read the series or read her other books and would highly recommend this.
First, I read the whole Fidelity series where Oren is a secondary character but in Respect the book is all about him and his life prior to the Fidelity series. We really get to understand Oren and why his relationship with his son was troubled. He went to NYU whee he met his wife Angelina, who was raised by her Aunt and Uncle who were part of the mafia. They married each other abut 9 years later and Oren loved Angelina very much but he really did not want to be part of the mafia life. He wanted to build his legitimate company Demetri Enterprises but had no choice but to be involved in he mafia life which was very detrimental to his marriage. You really get to understand what happened to Oren and his life, including his marriage to Angelina. I really loved reading this book and understanding what happened to Oren. I highly recommend this book and if you didn’t read the Fidelity series, you should. Again, Aleatha you always deliver a great book because you are a master story teller.
Highly enjoyed this addition to the Infidelity series! You can read it as a stand-alone but I wouldn’t! Read the Infidelity series so you get the full effect of the story. Excellent story telling from Aleatha and a top author for me!
Wow just wow.
This is the first full book I ‘ve read from this author and omg it was amazing. I was hooked from the time. The story was full of everything heartbreak betrayal love and respect. I ‘ve not read the other books in this series so I was lil worried. But there was no need. You could read this as a standalone. I didn’t feel like I was missing anything if anything it’s made me want to read this series more.
Oren Demetri is a great character. Is he a perfect man no but he alway looked out for his family. Angelina meant the world to him. Even when times were bad she would alway be his Angel. From the first time he met her she had a good of him. That beautiful laugh caught his arte and that was it. Oren life want rosey she had to deal with the list of his parents at a young age. But he put himself through his education to make himself a better man and to make his parents proud.
Angelina is a beautiful woman. I really liked her character. She is such a strong woman she does what she wants even if her family aren’t happy. Coming from a strong family Angelina had a life where woman knew there place and family meant everything. Her relationship with Oren Demetri was what she wanted he was the guy who alway got her attention. He wasn’t the man her family would of chosen for her but happiness that was shown was hard to be denied.
Oren and Angelina’s story was just brilliant. I felt so sorry for both characters they made such a great couple. They both went through so much apart and together. I luvd them. I would highly recommend this book. If you havent read anything from this author you should and this should be the book.
Although this book is part of the Infidelity series, it is actually a spin-off/stand alone.
It brings the life story of Oren Demetri, since he was a child and learned from his father the value of being a worker and how certain things in life never change; to be closer to power is necessary to give up various values and/or who you love.
Oren’s life begins to change when he meets in his sophomore year at NYU the angelic Angelina Costello.
She came from the family that commanded Cosa Nostra.
Over the years, their lives go through joys and sorrows, until their ultimate end.
Book very well written, but I cried a lot in the end.
5 stars
Aleatha Romig is a favorite author of mine. Her stories are magnificent and all encompassing. You get so caught up and mesmerized by the characters and storylines that it’s difficult to put the book down.
This is a grand love story. One that is written not only in the stars but in blood, sweat and tears. Written frim Oren Demetri’s POV, we travel through 25 years of his loving one woman, Angelina Costello. From tbe first moment tbeir eyes met in a class at NYU until her last breath and beyond that, he loved his mio angelo. He made choices along the way that weren’t always smart and hurt her but his love was unwavering. We come to know the young Lennox too and his father influenced his childhood and adulthood.
Having read the Infidelity series I knew that Oren and Angelina did not have an HEA. Reading how the love affair ended was poignantly beautiful and brought me to tears. Aleatha Romig continues to exceed expectations with each new book release.
I will admit that though I have read several books by Aleatha Romig I have not read the Infidelity Series, yet! That being said I never felt lost while reading this book and after reading this it has me wanting to push it to the top of my ever growing TBR.
This story had me going back to my younger days, not that I’m old but this book takes place in the 80’s and 90’s for the majority of it, and recalling some of the information of the time period. I think Aleatha did a wonderful job with making me feel as if I was reliving that time of my life where I grew up in Brooklyn, NY where the story takes place.
The love that Oren and Angelina had is that once in a lifetime kind of love and I enjoyed every minute of watching them grow together, get married, and start a family. Don’t get me wrong they had plenty of ups and downs throughout their relationship and it mad it all the more realistic for me. Things didn’t come easy for either one of them and they vowed to have their child, Lennox aka Nox, to have the ability to make his own choices. But with being in the Family, Cosa Nostra, are you truly able to make your own choices? Respect is a hard thing to earn when you’re an outsider but when you do earn it you had better not do anything to lose it, it can and will be detrimental to your health.
This story is truly a standalone within the Infidelity series but as I mentioned earlier if you haven’t read the series that started it all you will once you read this amazing read. Please be aware that you will need tissues while reading Oren and Angelina’s story, while this book isn’t as steamy as some of the other books Ms. Romig has written it does hit you in the gut with events that take place towards the end.
