The Historian chances upon Surac, a land where people’s destinies are defined by powerful pendants they have from birth, called Stones. Those whose Stones give them useful skills call themselves Creators, and isolate themselves from all others with a wall that splits the entire continent. When Aric, a Creator blacksmith, has a son born with a Stone that marks him for violence and destruction, … they find themselves in danger from those they called their friends.
When the boy, Sadavir, is ultimately banished, he discovers secrets far darker than the villagers’ petty prejudices. On the far side of the wall, he learns the origin of the Stones’ magic and a war that dates back centuries. As he uncovers the true power locked in the Stones, he must find a way to unite ancient enemies in order to save his family. To stop a genocide, Sadavir must face his own destiny of violence.

I love to read, but the book has to get my attention right from the beginning. This book has that. I hated to put this book down. I loved living this adventure through this book. The Author is very good at telling this story and I thoroughly enjoyed every page. Lance Conrad is an amazing creative author.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. I love the way The Historian is more of a narrator than a proactive character in this book (that’s not to say there aren’t proactive characters, there definitely are). I found the society arcs to be very realistic and can easily be related to current events, although it wasn’t meant to be a commentary on anything political so don’t worry about that. I found it to be a very light, easy, fun, entertaining book to read.
Great middle-grade/teen read. Not my favorite of the series, (that honor goes to The Price of Survival), but still a solid fantasy story and an important building block in the increasingly rich mythos of the Historian.
Me and my kids really enjoyed this book. It’s a fun plot and a good message. I’m glad to see authors who can write a good story and keep it family friendly!
In the words of The Great Mr Conrad Himself, “He doesn’t sweat much for a fat guy! Five stars!!”
But srsly i could not put this book down. The concept of the Historian is so unique and wonderful, i cannot WAIT to read more about him!!
Lance has a way of telling a story that grabs your soul and holds on for dear life. In this book you start off not knowing what to expect but quickly get lost into the world that is being created right before your eyes. Where this is part of a series it is a great standalone that is tied in with the historian. A key figure that will follow you around in all of your adventures with his stories. This book is very easy to read for all ages and is also entertaining for adults as well as kids. It is a must have in your collection and you will find yourself wanting to read it again and again as you will pick up on different things each time you read it.
The Price of Creation is a riveting book that’s full of action, love, life lessons, and good battling evil. I love this book and have read it out loud to my students for several years now. I’ve never had one student complain about it. In fact, I can honestly say that 100% of my students liked this book! It’s a great read!
