The Preacher’s Son book review
Patricia Johns has written a great story with deep, valuable life lessons gently
woven into the theme. An important life lesson of picking yourself up by the bootstraps
and keeping on living, even when relationships fall apart, or your secure plans for the future
are ripped to shreds. She shows there is STILL light and hope, you just have to step over the naysayers and
get on with it. Persevere in the right path, the good path. The Preacher’s Son had a strong theme of faith and hope
in God, and a great message about Jesus Christ the Savior. There is family, scandal, gossip,
arguments, church, faith, and the bible, all in this book.
It seems to me that Patricia Johns has done some candid observance of people and how they work through problems,
and took notes along the way. Good job!!
I loved learning about book binding, too. Those portions piqued my interest in the vocation.
The Preacher’s Son was well-developed with great progression.
The character’s situations are engaging, their thoughts and conversations
are quite realistic and important to read all the way through.
I enjoyed the book , and look forward to reading more of her stories.
I do recommend The Preacher’s Son, by Patricia Johns. It’s worth your time, and, she writes a Godly message
in the storylines. I’m looking forward to reading another of her books, and I hope she continues writing
Amish fiction, perhaps even some Christian historical fiction, (hint, hint!) I think she’d handle that expertly.
Romans 10:8-13; John 3:16-21
Great book
Well written & engaging!
Bethany and Micah or Bethany and Isiah? Basic good wins in the end. I really enjoyed this story. It was real life situations presented in an Amish community and I was impressed by the presentation. I liked all the characters and would love to see them in another novel continuing with their lives and incorporating others into the Family!
Excellent story.
When Abe Yoder goes to jail for fraud, his son Isaiah and family are left to pick up the pieces. With the loss of their home and reputation, Isaiah must find a way to support his sister’s. Taking the job at a book binding business puts Isaiah in close contact with a woman who resents his very existence. Bethany’s fiance leaves the Amish for the English world due to Abe’s actions. Her father lost a fortune as well. Will Isaiah be able to overcome the sins of his father? Will Bethany be able to forgive Isaiah for what his father did? I love how this story brings about forgiveness and love. It shows that sometimes giving grace is better than staying bitter. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
I had so many emotions in reading this book. Patricia Johns writes books that bring you right into the story and keep you there. I felt no sympathy for the “preacher” who did wrong. I love Bethany and Isaiah and felt bad for them and there families, and I loved how her parents were there for her. That is all I am going to say because I do not want to spoil anything.
I recommend this book 100%!
The Preacher’s Son by Patricia Johns
(The Infamous Amish #1)
In this poignant new series, Patricia Johns introduces an Amish family striving to reclaim the promise of love, marriage, and community after a shocking change in circumstance. Her sensitive storytelling and realistically flawed, yet endearing characters bring depth and heart to this tender story about faith and second chances, as a young man and woman.
The Amish residents of Bountiful, Pennsylvania, are stunned when preacher Abe Yoder is imprisoned for fraud. For Abe’s son, Isaiah, the news cuts doubly deep. His daet’s misdeeds have cost Isaiah his family’s land and their good name. Isaiah’s daet’s actions helped drive Bethany’s fiancé to the Englischer world, and cost her own father his savings.
Their shop is in need of Isaiah’s brawn and skill, but if she’s to start over after heartbreak, she needs a man she can trust. Not a Yoder.
But Isaiah isn’t giving up so easily. And when Bethany faces a dilemma, there may be a way for each to find not just redemption, but a joyful new love…
This is Isaiah Yoder and Bethany Glick’s story.
“It would appear that it’s off,” Bethany said, and her chin trembled as she said it. “Which sister is gone—Lovina or Elizabeth?” Her gaze landed
Her gaze landed on the paper, then slid off of it again. She’d have received a letter of her own from Micah no doubt. They stared at each other for a couple of beats, and then Bethany nodded toward the counter where parcels were kept.
“I’ve got to pick up a package,” she said, and she gave him a curt nod of farewell, then turned to leave.
“Have you seen my fiancé?” she retorted bitterly. “Micah?” He felt like the wind had been knocked out of his chest. “He left,” Bethany said. “I thought he would have told you.”
“No . . .” His friend had seemed odd the last couple of weeks, but everyone was on edge. “When did he leave? Today?”
“Three days ago,” she said. “But yah. He’s gone.”
I highly recommend reading.
The Preacher’s Son by Patricia Johns is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Patricia Johns.
This is book 1 in The Infamous Amish series. I had not noticed the series name, so the book was a surprise to me, as there are some serious topics addressed in this book that are not normally associated with Amish romance. The two central characters are Isaiah Yoder and Bethany Glick.
Isaiah’s father was a preacher whose business dealings with the wrong people led to him being convicted of fraud. His victims included members of his own congregation and others in their community. His family was disgraced and lost everything they owned, including the family farm that was their home and their livelihood. Isaiah, formerly a respected member of the community, finds himself both homeless and jobless, and his family broken up. No one will hire him until Mr. Glick (Bethany’s father) offers him a job in his bookbinder shop.
Bethany works in her dad’s shop. A position was open because the man she intended to marry was leaving their community. His faith in their way of life had been shaken by the damage inflicted by Isaiah’s father. Bethany had expected to marry him soon. She was devastated that he was leaving their Amish community, and her.
One part of the book that I really enjoyed was learning about how books were made by hand. Isaiah and Bethany’s path to each other was not easy, but this is a love story worth reading. I intend to read more in this series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read and review this book. All opinions here are mine.
The Preacher’s Son is the first for me by the author, Patricia Johns. It is book one of The Infamous Amish. It is different from most of the Amish romances I have read. This story touches on the fact the Amish are just like the English. They are human and sin along with make mistakes. Some are judgemental, some gossip, they also are faithful and forgiving.
Once I started this story, I did not want to put it down. It is well written and has a great flow. The main characters are likeable.and realistic.
I was given an ARC from Zebra via NetGalley for an honest review.
I love how this author’s mind works, as we are given an Amish man who is in jail, and the aftermath his family experiences. So many people lost money in his scams, and worse, he was a preacher.
We see first hand the damage done, as we begin the story and seeing many young people leaving their community, having lost faith, but staying and digging his heels in is Isaiah, trying to hold his head up, he is the Preacher’s son, and living where so many have lost so much.
Now with their leaving many families are feeling the impact, and loss, and a young woman is more or less left at the altar, when her boyfriend leaves. Now Bethany has another problem, and we are there to see how she and her family deals with this news.
I enjoyed this page turning read, and am looking forward to the next book in this series!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zebra, and was not required to give a positive review.
