“THE PRAYER BOX is Masterpiece of story and skill.” — NYT #1 Bestselling Author Debbie Macomber
When Iola Anne Poole, an old-timer on Hatteras Island, passes away in her bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds … bed at ninety-one, the struggling young mother in her rental cottage, Tandi Jo Reese, finds herself charged with the task of cleaning out Iola’s rambling Victorian house.
Running from a messy, dangerous past, Tandi never expects to find more than a temporary hiding place within Iola’s walls, but everything changes with the discovery of eighty-one carefully decorated prayer boxes, one for each year, spanning from Iola’s youth to her last days. Hidden in the boxes is the story of a lifetime, written on random bits of paper–the hopes and wishes, fears and thoughts of an unassuming but complex woman passing through the seasons of an extraordinary, unsung life filled with journeys of faith, observations on love, and one final lesson that could change everything for Tandi.
Engrossing! Uplifting!
I enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting. Feelings were true to life. God ending.
Couldn’t get into it, put it down until later
great read!
I now have a prayer box of my own!
This is now one of my all time favorite books. This author was recommended to me by my sister and this is the first book I’ve read by her. LOVED IT!!! Very inspiring, touching, thought provoking, and beautifully written! I can’t wait to read her other books.
It was ok, slow.
Loved it. Quick read
What a wonderful book…it was hard to put down. It felt like I just wanted to be with them’ reading the letters and helping at the shop. In the beginning I was irratated with the mom for not taking care of her kids, but she came around.
A wonderful, well-written story of God’s river of grace: a troubled young mother who heals; an island village on the Outer Banks of North Carolina recovering from a hurricane, followed by a tropical storm; an aging woman who has overcome the darkness in her life to become a lighthouse for others.
Refreshing and different. Enjoyed it a lot.
This was such an inspired read. I could hardly put it down.
Loved this story! Will re-read it as it is that good!
I didn’t want to lay it down.
