I’ve enjoyed the Harlequin Historical Romance line for many years, and this book was no exception.
Imagine living in a time when, as a woman, you had no rights, very few respectable ways to earn money, and were solely responsible for the care of a small child. It’s no wonder Sylvia takes drastic measures to ensure her son receives the medical attention he needs. I found her to be brave and bold, with just enough insecurity to make her a well-rounded character.
Dr. Nelson Graham wanted a wife beyond reproach, but sometimes fate has something else in store for us. As he gets to know Sylvia, he sees her as more than a penniless mother. He notices her compassion, her need to help others, and realizes she may be exactly what needs after all.
I loved the slow build of romance between them, filled with enough witty remarks and tender moments to leave me yearning for more. I can’t wait to see what other books are available from Ms. Albright.
It was great to be back in Oak Grove! I love the people there! Well, most of them, anyway. 😉 I loved Sylvia and Nelson’s story! They had quite the journey!!
Sylvia is strong, independent and stubborn. She has put up walls for many years. She is also kind, giving and genuine. Her fierce love for her son touched my heart. She faced difficult circumstances in her life and had to make difficult decisions. It was interesting to see the difference between her choices and Mrs. Graham’s choices and how their lives were affected because of them.
Nelson is a good man! He truly cares about others and wants to help them. I loved watching him realize that Sylvia was the woman he wanted for his bride. They come from such different worlds, but are so perfect for each other. And he was so sweet with Tommy! I loved their interactions!
Nelson had his work cut out for him trying to get past Sylvia’s walls. She was so afraid of being in town, and I loved witnessing the acceptance and friendship she found there from so many. Her stubbornness and fear still got in the way, but it made for a great ending! *sigh*
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
Oh what a delicious small town romance filled with antics, danger and such heart warming love! Nelson and Sylvia were so much fun to read about as they clashed and clicked while discovering their paths in life. Nelson is the swoon worthy town doctor who is all too logical for his own good. Sylvia’s past makes her leery of everyone and it just makes the sparks fly off the page between these two! I understand a mom doing anything for her child – so kidnapping the doctor is fine, right?! So many well written characters that make up the lovable small town ambiance. This author knows how to write page turning stories with the creeps that bring about the danger, which seems to follow Sylvia everywhere, to the sweet and honest ones that you wish you could be friends with in real life. I love getting lost in a story and the people of Oak Grove make that happen! With the author’s help of course. I have never been disappointed in a Kathryn Albright book and she makes the happy ever after so good.
