If you love gripping suspense, this one’s for you! Fast paced and exciting. A lot of emotion was woven into the intrigue in this thriller.
The forth book in The Love and Murder Series each book just gets better than the last one. A well written story with a great storyline. Penny Sparks and Jake Winters’ story has suspense, drama, danger, murder and romance, I enjoyed reading this story. Having read Brenda Whiteside’s previous 3 books in this series, I was not surprised when the first chapter of The Power of Love and Murder made putting this book down impossible. So many possibilities were laid out, which are not really answered until the last page, kept the pages turning. Just the right amount of intrigue coupled with romance and strong characters, makes this read well worth your time.
Penny and Jake are damaged deeply by their pasts and both would rather move on with their lives. They’ve both landed in Flagstaff and feel an instant attraction to one another. Sinister elements from Penny’s past roar in and chaos reigns. Penny and Jake dig deep for managing the danger they’re in. A well-paced, interesting read!
13 yrs ago, Penny Sparks left her old life, after her family was murdered, and reinvented herself in Flagstaff, AZ. She has a good job and a great best friend and roommate, Mandy. However, she always gets melancholy at Christmas time, not having her family. When she reaches out to her aunt, Penny inadvertently puts herself back on the radar of her family’s killer. Jake Winters was once an up and coming rockstar…until drugs and booze took over his life. Now Jake can barely afford gas for his truck so he decides to visit his sister. Jake and Penny have a wee bit of history from 6yrs ago and are trying to ignore the mutual attraction. Things seem to be going well until tragedy strikes and Penny’s past comes storming back. Is there an HEA for this pair?
Good story and well written. I have read/listened to earlier books in the series and this one did not disappoint.

She lives with a flat mate and has recently met her rock star brother who is recently out of rehab There is a connection between Jake and her but he feels like she is pulling away from him and he believes it is her lack of trust in him not realising she has her won problems When a hit man is sent after her because her past is catching up The man her father tried to report is about to run for president Then Jake and her will flee hopefully to expose the man planning her death With her photographic memory and a sim card she could destroy him of they survive.
Our heroine has a secret which keeps her in hiding. She figured she should be safe by now, but some secrets never expire.
This is book four in the series, but it works just fine as a standalone. I have not read any of the previous books in the series and had no problem keeping up.
This is a romantic suspense story with heavy intrigue elements (politics, yuck!). The story is well written and easy to read with several well developed characters that breath life into the story. I found the plot to be rather intense with lots of twists and turns along the way that kept you guessing. Overall, it made for a very entertaining read and I look forward to reading more by this author.
Highly recommended.

THE POWER OF LOVE AND MURDER (Love and Murder Series Book #4) by Brenda Whiteside is a Romantic suspense with political corruption, a thirteen year old murder mystery and a touch of romance. This book does stand well on its own even though it is book #4 of the series.
Penny Sparks has been hiding under a new identity for thirteen years. Her father, mother and brother were all murdered execution style when her father tried to report illegal activities in the company he worked for. Penny has all the information in her photographic memory and a SIM card with a photo of the car in front of her family home during the murder, but she has been too afraid to use any of the proof.
Jake Winters, ex-rocker is out of rehab and comes to Flagstaff to reunite and make amends with his sister, Penny’s roommate. Jake and Penny hit it off, even though they had a bad encounter before Jake’s rehab. Now Jake wonders if Penny might be the person to bring him balance and help him find his new normal after rock star status.
When Penny longs for her real family during the holiday season, and she no longer feels the killer will be interested in her, she sends off an email to her aunt under her roommates email address. The killer is still interested. His boss is now thinking of running for president and Penny could destroy him.
As the killer tracks Penny down, Jake vows to help and protect her as they both work to uncover the killer and expose the truth of the corruption and the murder of Penny’s family.
I enjoyed this book. Jake and Penny’s relationship, I felt, was realistically portrayed especially towards the end. I felt the break in the relationship was necessary. I was also glad Jake and Penny went through the system for help and did not suddenly become superheroes on their own. I did feel the suspense plot was interesting with a killer, who actually had motives that made you feel (at least a little) sorry for him, but I also did not feel it was realistic. An entertaining, fast Romantic suspense read.
I’ve always wondered what Penny’s story was since reading the first book in this series, and Brenda finally delivered. The Power of Love and Murder delivers an emotional ride along with wondering if and when things would happen.
