I’ve been kidnapped by Zeus. Plucked from the streets of Manhattan and frightened half to death by a freaking Olympian god.And now I’m trapped in the Underworld, being forced to compete in a series of deadly trials for the position of Queen of the Underworld. Which would mean marrying Hades, the utterly terrifying Lord of the Dead. Who the hell wants a husband at all, let alone one made of smoke … smoke and riddled with death?
I have to get back home, to New York and my brother. But I can’t leave without completing the trials and they’ve been designed for a godly Queen, not Persephone – barista and botanical garden enthusiast.
I’m surrounded by lethal, all-powerful maniacs. Sexy-as-hell maniacs, sure, but as dangerous as they come. And I’m going to have to prove to all of them that there’s a goddess of hell inside me. It’s the only way I’ll survive the Hades Trials. But then what? And why, why, why am I so desperate to see under Hades smoky exterior and find out what he’s hiding from me?
If I win the trials, I have to marry the devil himself. But losing might mean losing my life.
The Power of Hades is book 1 in the Hades Trials, which is intended for adults and is packed with magic, mythology and slow-burn soulmate romance! *Contains swearing and mature themes.*

The Power of Hades by Eliza Raine is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I can not get enough of and I can not wait to read the next book. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romances.

‘The Power of Hades’ is book one in the co-authored series The Hades Trials by Eliza Raine and Rose Wilson.
A new to me author that was recommended through Goodreads after reading The Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa.
Being kidnapped by Zeus, taken to the underworld to participate in trials to become the bride to Hades sound made up and unbelievable. Well that is exactly what Persephone thought when she found out that was exactly what had happened to her. But it’s not the first time she been to the underworld or married to Hades. She has no memories of any of this being true and no one will tell her anything. She must either win the trials and marry Hades again or loss and leave the underworld, but loosing may not be that simple as past participants have died.
I love a good Greek mythology read, it’s always so much sweeter when it involves the biggest, baddest and misunderstood Hades. This was so freaking Fantastic, I can’t express how wonderful it was to read this. I’ve read so many different takes of the Hades and Persephone relationships, but it was refreshing and exhilarating to have read this perspective. Having had them married with some deep, dark secret for Persephone loosing her memories and being sent to the human realm was genius.
Persephone is growing into her self the more she spends in the Underwolrd of Olympus. She may be a little over the top with the whole carrying on about Hades being the bad guy just because of his “job” description. But I’m hoping she will get off that high horse soon, as not everything seems as simple as it looks. But I do like her courage, attitude and fire in her and can’t wait to see her continuing to grow.
Hades, who doesn’t love the bad boy, I know I do. He is all mystery wrapped in a sexy body, cloak in shadows. Like I said a mystery. The scene in the shadow orb was so goood, *swoon but you can see the heartache and love in his eyes and the way he acts with Persy. Also can’t wait to see how he is going to develop in the next book.
But I do not trust the other Gods, they are sneaky, cruel, and untrustworthy they all have their own agenda and can’t wait for things to go horrible for them. But there are a few gods that ain’t so terrible and hope they can be trusted in the coming books. Hecate deserves a shoot out, she is my girl and I love her spunk.
So an expl*sive start to a series and can’t wait to devour the next book just like this one.
I enjoyed this first book of the Hades trilogy.
Persephone is a mortal woman that is kidnapped by Zeus and has to face several trials to become Hades wife, again, even if she doesn’t know anything about it and just want to go back to earth and keep going with her life.
Greek gods start meeting up with mortal Persephone and this happens in pretty curious and weird situations. Funny, entertaining and cool characters mixed with an interesting plot. Action, adventures, new and old friends, new and old enemies and an attraction to the smoky god Hades that Persy can’t understand.
Good writing.
This was so very entertaining! I was absolutely riveted to the pages! I love mythology and this is a beautiful mix of modern day and old world charm. Hades is both frightening and intriguing, but then so are each of the gods. Persephone is relatable! She’s doing the best that she can in a world that she knows nothing about. She has enemies within her sight and those who are lurking within the shadows. The gods are selfish and murderous and with Zeus ruling them certain rules can’t be broken. That’s the dilemma Hades faces and why he can’t stop this madness. This is wholly engrossing and the cliffhanger will have you rushing to read the next book.
A great, page-turning read for anyone who enjoys mythology, however, this book ends on a cliff hanger, which means you have to pick up the next book for resolution.
I am beyond happy that I found this series!! For one I love any and all greek mythology reads! I am a sucker for the god of the underworld, I think I may be slightly obsessed lol. Anywho back my review, lol.
Okay, Persephone, so she doesn’t know who she is. Well I mean she knows who she is but it’s not really who she is. Did I confuse you? You will see what I mean. So Persephone is working and attending school in New York. One day at work a guy walks in, cute with these amazing eyes and well he kinda rubs her wrong, asking her if she was busy later and all. Well he happened to be a god; Zeus to be exact who has it out for Hades. So welcome to the TRIALS to become the QUEEN of the UNDERWORLD. Now apparently Persephone did something that got her exiled, Zeus is demanding Hades remarry, anyway there are these trials and Persephone must survive them all and win the “game” to be the QUEEN of the UNDERWORLD! But does she want to be that? Does Hades want her back? What happened? What did she do that made her be exiled? I don’t know yet and I am already done book two. I honestly love all things greek mythology (sorry I tend to repeat myself when I am excited lol) and I think if you love reads based on that you will absolutely love this as well!!! I can’t freaking wait for book 3!!
Anyways…..go get lost in this series TODAY!!!!!
Love books that take place in the Underworld! Love Hades and Persephone! Persephone couldn’t handle something when she was Queen in the Underworld, so her memory was taken and she was sent to be born as a human on Earth; current Persephone has no memory of ever being a Goddess. When jerk God Zeus comes and kidnaps her, she finds herself in the Underworld competing to become Hades’ wife; I’m glad Zeus brought her back, but he of course is a jerk. I’m all for Hera getting a new husband. Anyway, back to Persephone, she needs to complete multiple dangerous trials to win Hades but also to stay alive. Loved the action and adventure going on with the trials; super glad the time was very limited with the other competitors, I don’t like the whole jealous mean girls scenario. Some cool world building; love all the creepiness going on in the Underworld. Lots of fun! Loved Persephone’s sassiness and she is a tough lady that uses her brain. Loved her friendship with Hecate! Hades is as expected; dark and broody, but you can feel how much he feels for Persephone. Disappointed Hades is even contemplating having a new wife though; Hades shouldn’t let anyone dictate who he should marry. This man needs to step up and protect Persephone and himself from controlling, pompous individuals. Still think he’s wonderful though! You can tell this man is passionate! Looking forward to seeing him grow and fight! This story has a cliffhanger ending, so you’ll definitely want to continue to get the full story. I’m looking forward it!
What can I say we’ll written engaging and re-readable
However it starts without commonsense and contraction
I feel the character grows but there’s some changes to mythology
The bait for the second book is well placed

Persephone has a normal job in New York working in a coffee shop going to college until some attractive jerk flirts with her but it gets worse from there when she’s kidnapped by the same guy only he’s a God (Zeus). Now Percy is in Hades competing to be the new Queen or rather to become Hades Queen again she doesn’t remember but they were married and she was a goddess something terrible happened and she’s been made to forget she’s human now competing in stupid trials but while trying to save a friend she’s forced to do something she never thought she was capable of and that could kill her and if that doesn’t due it Hades power may just kill or she could eat one simple seed. It will change everything. This book will end on a heck of a cliffhanger I’m looking forward to the next book.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
This book has it all … with a twist on mythology like you have never read. Guaranteed to keep you up all night

This new take was great.Nothing like just going on your normal barista life and being kidnapped by Zues. Persephone never thought she’d have to compete in a trial for Queen of the Underworld to Hades. I love her attitude throughout the story, she’s not written like others before her. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.

This was a good story that grabbed me from the beginning and kept me reading to see what would happen next. It had mystery, great characters, and suspense. What was really going on and what was everyone hiding. The mix of modern day and myths make a great retelling of the Hades and Persephone story. The characters were rich and fun and crazy. The beginning was a riot and Persephone’s plans to get back to the normal world was entertaining.
One freaking amazing tale worth 10 stars!!!
Where to start with this gem? First let me make it known that the Hades-Persephone myth is my favorite when it comes to Greek Mythology. That being said, and although I’ve read quite a few retellings, Eliza’s take on the myth just left me mindblown! The characters are well developed and keep developing as the story progresses. The storyline itself is so well written, with nary a plot hole to confuse the reader. Set in the same Olympus universe we’ve come to know from Eliza’s other series, it combines the Greek myths lore with our modern world and a dash of steampunk. But what really earns the story the additional 5 stars (see my review title), is the research the author has apparently done before writing the story. Each name, each character, each object has a definite meaning deriving from ancient Greek language and myths and is properly assigned.
As far as the narrative itself goes, let me tell you this is my favorite Hades-Persephone retelling ever. Intense, dark, suspensful, with amazing tension-filled moments between the main characters, the book is one of those you read in one sitting without a breath. And the cover? The stuff dreams are made of! Yes, it ends in a cliffhanger, but all good stories are like that. To say I’m sitting on hot coals waiting for the next installment is an understatment!!!
Interesting twist on this mythology and plenty of heat and suspense all around. I received an ARC copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a very good book. I would recommend reading it. Being kidnapped from a God was never something she thought possible. Now shes in the underworld going through trials that she wants no part. Cant wait for the next book.

This is the first book in this series and what a series it is turning out to be! If this book is any indication of the rest of this series this is going to BLOW YOU AWAY! It has everything that a prn romance drama that can fill you up and leave your pulse racing and fighting for breath. I was so shocked by how good Miss Raine calculated and delivered this book. Talk about SPECTACULAR! I love the fact that it not only kept me engaged but it so much entertaining and honestly that is one of the things I look for when reading any book! I love the mythology that the author has decided to make her own. It gave me a story that not only flowed but had ripples going through my senses. I only find that with a few authors that actually take you into the story and you live through the characters. This story is EXPLOSIVE I mean it so out of the universe AWESOME! Ok ok I loved this story and I KNOW you will too!!!

Persephone, a botanical garden enthusiast, works in a New York coffee shop as a barista. She definitely didn’t plan on some guy popping in, spewing lightning all over. She also didn’t expect to end up in the Underworld where they tell her she is actually “THE” Persephone, who had been stripped of her memories and exiled to Earth.
Now she is expected to participate in a series of deadly trials to be honored at Hades’ side as his Queen. She really doesn’t want the prize and just would like to get back to her brother in New York. But to do that requires losing the trial competitions – and losing those means she also loses her life! What kind of options does she have here? Because if she wins, she doubts she will be allowed to walk away and go back to her life on Earth.
This was a well done story with a good story line and great characters. A little humor is thrown in to keep the hope high that Persephone will find a solution that works for her! Grab your copy and enjoy an exciting adventure!
I really enjoyed this book. I love Greek mythology so I loved this twist on an old tale. The story is very well written and grabs your attention from the start. The characters are well developed and written as well. A really great story that I would recommend reading.
