A series of events set Willow and her friends on a journey like no other, leading them to a new understanding of themselves, their feelings and their abilities. As they begin to unravel the past, they find themselves the sole opposition to a plot that could destroy all existence. Their only clue to survival comes in the form of a book filled with hundreds of predictions. Deciphering them, … them, however, will not be an easy task. Written by someone long ago, the pages are lined with riddle like poems. Even worse they appear to be in no particular order.
Each book in the series is based on a different prophecy leading our heroes and heroines to new places and new friends, experiencing growing pains along the way. The entire series, delves deep into the understanding of magic and self-discovery, all the while, questioning the right versus wrong equation on personal levels.
As the books progress, readers will find some new explanations for old tales, myths, legends, folk lore and unusual phenomena that could just make them question the validity of stories we all have grown up with.
Vampires, Witches, Ghosts, Monsters, Santa Claus, Atlantis, Elves, Dragons, Faeries… find out the alternate truth to them all.
Volume I contains books 1-3 in the series.

If this book were a video game, I would describe it as a non-linear adventure. There is a central plot, and then there are several side quests which engage a plethora of non primary characters. The urban fantasy setting is rich in literary references, from Harry Potter (most of all), Frozen, and a new spin on traditional characters like Santa Claus. I really enjoyed the relationships between the Keepers and the Guardians, mystical animal totems with an interesting array of magical abilities.
Be ready to embark on a long and winding journey, where Willow’s story is just at the beginning!
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1
By C.A. King
Well this sure was a captivating read, its good when book grabs your attention from the start. The storyline will truly captivate and make you think if there was a new world you will go with C.A. King just to see what adventures you would have while exploring the new world. Willow a sweet and caring girl and her friends discover that they all have talents that are newly discovered to them. Somehow the author has made her characters appear lifelike, so you get to think that you know them well. That’s what you need in an enjoyable book, characters that jump off the page to you. Willow and her friends take us on a journey that is filled with twists and turns. Keep in mind though this is a huge read but very much well worth it. So, forget about the house work for a couple of days, grab this book and enjoy.
The Portal Prophecies Series by C.A King is a Y.A fantasy/paranormal Story. I normally do not go for paranormal but this was definitely an interesting read. I’m always happy when trying something out of my comfort zone ends up being good! Looking forward to more by this aauthor
5 Star
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1 ( The Portal Prophecies Volumes Book 1)by C.A.King includes the first three books of The Portal Prophecies Series. This is a fantasy series that I couldn’t put down once I started reading. I was hooked from the beginning of first story till last page of the third book. The characters are all very believable and I felt like I was going through with them.if you don’t believe in magic before you read you will when you finish. I highly recommend this set and I can’t wait to read what’s next.
I absolutely adore this series and would put it in my top five series I’ll read over and over.
Willow is a strong female lead character and I would be happy to recommend her as a role model of compassion and empathy to anyone.
Along with her friends, Willow must decipher the prophecies that show up in no particular order but that all seem to detail horrific catastrophes. They’re all detailed but ambiguous and keep you guessing.
Definitely one of my favorite things about these books is how C. A. King will take a mythical person or creature and add a new twist to their story while still keeping them close to their origins.
The Portal Prophecies: Volume #1, from C.A. King, is a collection of the first three books in The Portal Prophecies Series. In it King brings to life with great and imaginative details, many myths, urban legends, and paranormal fantasy. I found the way King wrote these stories to be very interesting and captivating. For an unusual genera for me to pick-up I enjoyed it immensely and it was the perfect read for the type of mood I was in at the time. I had threw in some fall scented wax melts, the storms were raging outside my open bedroom window, and the lights were low, while I devoured it. The perfection of these elements blended with a great read, kept me up well past my bedtime to find out what would come next, and how these novels would end.
The books that are included in this large (a great big bang for your buck!) collection are; A Keeper’s Destiny, A Halloween’s Curse, and Frost Bitten. The main character is Willow, and she us supported by close friends. I felt like there was an underlying coming-of-age story line, and really enjoyed the progression of Willow throughout each of the novels. She was relatable, and fun to read, and I connected with her personality that was portrayed.
Another aspect that really made these novels stand out for me was the incredible world building that C.A. King very obviously, tediously, worked to bring to life, successfully. The descriptions of each setting and the world surrounding Willow along her journeys was detailed in the sense that you felt as if you were immersed in them, a part of the scene watching from the sidelines. I love when a book can really take you to the world that you are reading about, and all three of these did that for me, exceeding all expectations.
Willow is unsure of a lot of things. She doesn’t know where her parents are, or what really ever happened to them. She does know that she is an orphan in a world that she is not really understanding. She doesn’t know why she hasn’t developed her powers like most of those among her age group have. Everyone gets some sort of power, be it useful or not, around the time that they have reached the sixteenth cycle of their life, or sixteenth birthday so to speak. She feels that if she could just get her power or powers it would help her to find her place among society, and fit in with her world more.
I will say this series got off to a complicated start, DON’T give up! It is a lot of information in one jammed pack book, A Keeper’s Destiny. This does really set you up to dive into both books two and three. A lot of the amazing stuff happens in books two and three. It will be worth it to get through the set up to the series. I am sure glad that I got through it though because this world they existed in was fully cemented as a real place in my head by the time book two, A Halloween’s Curse, really takes off.
Essentially Willow’s world becomes under attack. This leads Willow and her friends to embark on a journey to save the world and well, pretty much all of existence. It is along this journey that Willow grows in so many ways. She learns all about herself and the world she lives in. There is some many things to discover too. From The Portals, different realms, an evil king, to the guardians and more. It is quite a ride.
The big thing though to follow is the book, The Portal Prophecies. In this book there are prophecies that will play key roles in each step of their journey. Each book has a new prophecy to follow and figure out. Can they decipher each prophecy before it is too late? What will Willow discover about herself as she tries to decipher these prophecies?
Like I mentioned earlier, Willow really grows as a character throughout the novels. I loved that aspect, but it was especially neat to see the confidence that she was able to gain as she accomplished each task she sets out to achieve, and as she begins to finally get her powers. When she really starts to understand them she is surprised by how much she is able to do with them. Where will her powers place her in society?
With each layer of this story played out I was sad to see this volume end. I will be anxious to see if there is more to come, since it was left a bit open-ended. I can only hope we get more of this fantastical world of myths, legends, and new re-imaginations of characters that we have always loved, read about, and know since childhood. Go one-click this wonderful volume right now! You will not be disappointed that you did, I promise!
The Portal Prophecies vol 1 by C.A. King
5 Stars!!!!!
I am in absolute heaven. I really love it when I discover new authors and series that grip you from page one and keep you glued to the pages. This series is very refreshing and has a unique plot and story line. I really have enjoyed it and havent wanted to put it down.
Willow is a very engaging character and you are just drawn to her. I really like how the book is centered around her character and how it follows her destiny. I was very intrigued by the sort of love interests that come for her. I was so enthralled with this book that I didn’t realize how addicted I was till I got to the end and now I am just so hungry for more. I will definitely be reading more from this author and this series.
The Portal Prophecies: Volume One is a fantastic book. The main protagonist, Willow, is well-written and doesn’t fall into the trap of being too perfect. She reads like a real human being, struggling between what destiny dictates she should do and what she herself wants to do. Her friends are equally well written, and the differing personalities create a rich environment. The settings are well described, immersing the reader perfectly. I appreciated how well the book handled all the threads of the story-it was not confusing or complicated at all.
The Portal Prophecies Volume I (The Portal Prophecies Volumes Book 1) by C.A. King was a fast pace, entertaining, original read that had me hooked from start to finish.
My first read by this author and, taking on a series was big. I wasn’t disappointed, but I will say I enjoyed books 2 and 3 more then the first. Why? well the first book suffered from info dumping, and focused too much on setup then delivering a solid first read. Not saying it was a bad book. But this first book being the setup trend, isn’t something that I’m fond of, as I have stated in other reviews, for me, isn’t good practice. I just feel like, if you’re going to create such big wide world of mystical magic and everything under the sun, then why can’t all books in the series be fantastical, and just give info when it’s needed. Instead of stuffing it down our readers hearts in the first book.
Moving on. Since this is a box set I’m going to review the series as a whole.
The writing was consistent, and drew you in. The deep detail and world building was lush and rich, making you believe you were there with the MC’s. I liked how every book followed a difference prophecy. This made each book start fresh and brought more then just sticking with the same thing. It was a good way to mix it up, without having to stray too far from your original ideals. It also helped develop other characters other then the mains. The plots for each book were complex and multi layered, adding to that already deep magical realms, making you fall more and more into it’s spiderweb like world.
This series as a whole was fun, engaging, and for me a perfect summer read.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this series, and was sad to see it end. But for me it closed out with just enough of a opening that maybe, one day it could be expanded. With so many elements that went into creating this multi layered world, it’s more then plausible.
So I will leave you with my super high recommendation that you will get lost in this magical world of Vampires, Witches, Ghosts, Monsters, Santa Claus, Atlantis, Elves, Dragons, Faeries.
Happy Reading

The Portal Prophecies Volume 1 by C.A. King
Four Stars
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1 is the first three books in the Portal Prophecies Series by C.A. King. This series should be read in order because each story builds upon the next. The development of the plotline and characters are quite extensive. C.A. pulls you in from the first page to the last. This book is full of action, adventure, suspense and drama. The worlds that this group travel are amazing. As these kids are chasing the truth of the prophecies, they are growing up and learning what is needed to protect not only their own future, but the future of all the universe.
This book follows Willow and her friends, learning new things about the book of Prophecies and new worlds they never new about growing up. Willow and her group are meeting all kinds of new creatures trying who will try to get her to see their side of the Prophecies. Willow is making new friends on this adventure and must learn who to trust or not. This book also brings new enemies. Will the Prophecies help her in this story? Will anyone come to help her?
C.A. King continues to amaze me with the mythical creatures and wonderful worlds that Willow finds. I am truly enjoying this series and would recommend to anyone who enjoy the paranormal genre. I can’t wait to get into the next volume in this series.
This is a volume of the Portal Prophecies stories containing:
A Keeper’s Destiny
A Halloween’s Curse
Frost Bitten
As explained in the blurb – Each book in the series is based on a different prophecy leading our heroes and heroines to new places and new friends, experiencing growing pains along the way. The entire series, delves deep into the understanding of magic and self-discovery, all the while, questioning the right versus wrong equation on personal levels.
Vampires, Witches, Ghosts, Monsters, Santa Claus, Atlantis, Elves, Dragons, Faeries…
I really enjoyed this whole series. As we follow the characters on their quests, there are twists and turns and things that help make each segment more understandable. The characters are all well developed and as the story line flows we see the maturity and growth as they grow in a better understanding of powers and maturity.
Even though each of these are intersecting stories they can be read at your own pace (which, if you are like me will be straight through).
I would recommend this series for readers of all ages.
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1-C.A. King
5-star review
The Portal Prophecies by C.A. King is a must read! This was my first book by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last! This was a truly one of a kind storyline that held me completely captivated the whole way through! The Portal Prophecies Volume 1 includes the first 3 books of the series: book 1- A Keeper’s Destiny, book 2-A Halloween’s Curse and book 3- Frost Bitten. This series is a perfect blend of fantasy and paranormal with such an original storyline.
C.A. King created an unforgettable world with amazing characters. I loved her writing style and all of the incredible detail. I found it so easy to follow along and I was able to picture everything playing out in my mind which was certainly entertaining. I was so fascinated with everything going on that I didn’t want it to end, thankfully the series isn’t over, so I have more to look forward too.
I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone looking for their next paranormal/fantasy read, this is one you won’t want to miss!
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1 by C.A. King
Stars- 4
This volume contains 3 out of the 6 books in this series. All 6 books are based on a different prophecy that Willow and her friends are trying to figure out. These are not standalone novels. The first two books had moments where the action lagged, but I feel that this is only because C.A. King built an awesome and very intricate world for us. To me, the third has more action, but I could have just loved the theme more for this book. Overall, I loved reading this series and recommend it. Willow is a strong character who goes through many ups and downs as she trying to save others!
If you are a Potterhead, you will love Willow.
The Portal Prophecies by C. A. King is an amazing series that will keep you turning pages until you have read this entire volume. The main character Willow grows with each book. C. A. King does an amazing job of grabbing your attention and keeping all the way through her stories. Here’s to the first three books.
A Keeper’s Destiny (Book 1)
The main character is Willow. She is coming of age and everything she thought about the world around her is not exactly what she has thought it was. She has been introduced in to magical powers and that there are different people around her. I relate Willow to Harry Potter.
A Halloween’s Curse (Book 2)
Willow has been injured and has found herself in a different location, Earth. This world is different because magic is not practiced in the open. Willow is still learning about the prophecy. She is learning who exactly the prophecy is for and she is in amazement.
Frost Bitten (Book 3)
Willow is now learning about her powers and her friends are learning about their powers as well. She has been called by Prince Lance. She answers the call and she has been introduced to new species. She is learning who she can trust and who she cannot.
This book is a long one, folks. However, please do not let that deter you from falling into the world of Willow and the Portal Prophecies. There are so many great things I want to say about this book, but don’t want to give anything away so bear with me. If you like any sci-fi at all, read this. If you like any romance at all, read this. If you like an amazing story with a deep history to delve into, read this. If you like a trove of different characters that make the world come alive, read this. So much happens in this story that I truly feel there is something for everyone in it. C.A King has woven a fantastic story, rich with different locations and people to keep you sucked into the tale. As I said, this is a long book as Volume 1 is technically 3 short books. I had a busy week as I was trying to read this book and I kept getting frustrated at my busy schedule keeping me from this book. I wanted nothing more than to sit down and just absorb the story. It has a way of keeping your attention that few other books have done for me over the years, and I read A LOT. Like I said, there are so many positive things to say but let the book do the talking… and just READ IT! Do yourself a favor and dive in! I wish I could give more stars to C.A King, but since I can’t, I give “The Portal Prophecies: Volume 1” FIVE stars and excuse me while I skip over and buy Volume 2!
The Portal Prophecies: A Keepers Destiny
C. A. King
The Portal Prophecies: A Keepers Destiny is the first book in a series by C. A. King and a four star novel. I don’t read a lot of fantasy since it is not my favorite genre but after the first couple pages of this book, I had a hard time putting it down. The author does a great job of delving into this made up world and grabbing your attention. Willow is a young girl who is all alone in the world except for a couple of friends. She also has these voices in her head but she has no idea where they came from or why they are with her. Everyone in Willow’s world develops special talents as they get older. By their sixteenth cycle, they know what they can do and try to continue to develop that talent and make it stronger. This first book is a lot of Willow trying to figure out her talents and then realizes she has many more talents than others in her world. As she realizes more and more how powerful she could be, she puts people around her who can help sharpen her skills with their budding skills. Willow knows that something is about to happen but has no idea what that might be. When danger begins building in her small community, she must figure out how to keep her world together or start fresh in a new one. When Willow and her friends get together, big things happen and they can help in big ways.
The Portal Prophecies: A Halloween’s Curse
C. A. King
The Portal Prophecies: A Halloween’s Curse is a five star novel by C. A. King. Just like the first book in the
series, I could not put this one down. The author is able to draw you in to her mystical half earth, half
otherworldly place to make the events that happen seem realistic. Please read the first novel before
going more in depth into this review. At the end of the last book, Willow has put herself into a situation
that the people around her aren’t quite sure she can pull herself out of. She is still young and untrained
in her special gifts along with all the others that came from her world. She insisted on trying something
to save a creature even though everyone else disagreed. After she saved the creature, she went into a
coma. This coma has been trying to keep her safe and heal her body before she can come out of it. After
several weeks, her friend decides she should go in to Willow’s dreams to try to help her find her way
out. After this happens, it isn’t long before Willow wakes. She is very weak until her friend shows her the
branch she pulled out from the dream. Willow buries the branch and it sprouts into a gorgeous tree that
gives back life and powers to all who need it. Willow feels like herself again. But this crazy new world
they are in is certainly confusing to her. Even though this world is Earth, she has no idea how to get
around in it. Mike starts showing her the ropes and it just seems to confuse her even more. Then Mike
leaves to attend to a personal matter. After several days, Willow is missing him and wondering where he
ran off to. The girls all decide to bind together in their dreams to see if they can figure out where he is.
When they do this, they see that Mike is in a dangerous place and he is hurt. Now they have to go on a
journey to try to bring him back home.
The Portal Prophecies: Frost Bitten
C. A. King
The Portal Prophecies: Frost Bitten is the third five star novel in the phenomenal series by C. A. King. I
would highly recommend reading this series in order. Even though the individual quests attempted by
Willow and her friends are different each time, the books in order give you more in depth descriptions
and help to keep the reader on track with all the different creatures and things. At the start of this book,
Willow learns just how naïve she can be. She is informed that three different men have feelings for her
and are trying to gain her attention. She thought it was just her hormones running wild but to think
those feelings could be reciprocated? Good thing she has her guardians with her. They are able to help
her work through her feelings and then to make the decision that a decision doesn’t have to be made
immediately. Lance, the evil King’s son, is one such man. He has come for Willow’s help. He needs to get
his sister back from a world he has never heard of before. When William tells him about the creatures
that live in the world he is describing, Lance knows he needs help to bring his sister home. Willow agrees
to help but knows it will take more than just her. That’s when William and Willow head into the magical
city. While there, Willow gets put on trial unexpectedly and they find out the council of the city does not
believe anything about the evil King and the guardians. Willow is floored that everything she knows is
about to be discounted as false. She then agrees that all the magical children at her camp will go to
school next year. This is the only way to make the council believe in them.
I give The Portal Prophecies Volume I by C.A. King, 5 stars.
This series is so fun! It takes you on adventures you have never dreamed of, meeting creatures and characters of all kinds. The stories themselves pull you in right away and will not let you go until you are at the end. You will miss precious hours of sleep. You will forget to eat and do normal human things. But you will love very minute of it.
Not only is the story captivating, it is fun too. I love Willow and all of the characters. They feel like dear friends of mine, that’s how real the author makes them. It is filled with fantasy, adventure, fun, and the battle of good and evil. This volume is for many ages and lovers of many genres. Not to mention that being three books in one, you have nothing to lose. Clear your weekend, grab a drink and some snacks, snuggle into your favorite blanket, and prepare to immerse yourself in this wonderful series.
I have loved C. A. King’s The Portal Prophecies series and it’s wonderful to now have the first half of the series collected together in one volume. It provides a great introduction to the series, and a chance to see the story and Willow, the protagonist, develop over a longer stretch of time.
Of the three books included in this volume, A Keeper’s Destiny is my favourite and actually is one of my favourite books that I read last year. It introduces the incredibly well-developed fantasy setting (which continues to expand throughout the series with lots of new, well-connected settings to explore) and gets Willow off on her adventure.
A Halloween’s Curse and Frost Bitten are particularly suited to be in a volume together as they both have a holiday theme to them. Mostly, this works quite well but there are moments (particularly in Frost Bitten) where it gets a bit ridiculous! Both books work well as a continuation of the story, but I would say they’d be best enjoyed in the autumn and winter when you’re in the holiday mood. Reading in the summer was a bit weird!
These are really great books, and it’s very handy having the three combined in one volume (particularly as books 4-6 are going to be released in a single volume as well). For me this definitely deserves 5 stars! It’s an enjoyable Young Adult Fantasy series with a strong female lead and an interesting cast of supporting characters, set in a detailed and awesome world. A Halloween’s Curse also has elements of Urban Fantasy which works quite well. I would definitely recommend this to any fans of YA Fantasy looking for a new series to get sucked into, and think it would be a particularly good collection to read around Halloween and Christmas when the books are set.
The Portal Prophecies Volume 1
By C A King
4 stars
Book 1: A Keeper’s Destiny
Book 2: A Halloween’s Curse
Book 3: Frost Bitten
This is a fantastic collection of YA fantasy stories and I really enjoyed all three of the books included in this volume. I really like reading YA stories and I thought these were a great example. I would highly recommend them all.
The world building in this set of books was particularly good; I loved all the descriptive language that the author used which allowed me to become fully immersed into the world and characters she had created.
I really liked the characters in the stories especially Willow – she is just one of those characters who you instantly feel that connection with. I really enjoyed reading about her adventures that she goes on with her friends. The unpredictability of these books was a huge plus for me too – it’s nice to read something that keeps you guessing a little!
Overall I really enjoyed all three of the books in this set and I am looking forward to reading more!!
A great read about change. Willow lives her life as a fruit picker but has always felt she was as missing something to her life. When danger strikes, she and her friends set out on a grand adventure to find out what happened and how to fix it. On their way, they discover a scrambled prophecy and find there is more to the world than they thought possible.
A great read. Well developed characters like Willow standing up for herself whilst still caring for people. I loved the sense of community in the village with different families selling different things working together.
A wonderful example of worldbuilding with a fantasy world of different sorts of magic and mystical creatures. The only issue I would raise is that downtimes this was a little hard to follow. Or with geography and rules and societies. I loved the idea of the prophecies as poems which was a great touch and added to the magical sense of it all. I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the fruits and the trees and the hill of green grass full of nature and bright colours. The contrast with the stone palace was written ebautifully, full of gold and silver detail and tapestries. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.
