FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules! With an introduction by Stephen King. Death is reporter Jack McEvoy’s beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write–and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented … killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn’t crack. The killer’s calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy’s own brother. And his last…may be McEvoy himself.

I enjoy all books by this author.
Connolly can do no wrong
fantastic
This book is one of my top favorites of his, which also seems to be true of many of his other readers. Though he may feel his later books are better written, I beg to differ. I feel the earlier stories are just as strong and just as original. This is hard to put down so give yourself a fair amount of spare time. Enjoy the ride!
Excellent writing. One of the best writers in recent years.
Another great book by Michael Connelly
Great read – very entertaining.
One of two of my most favorite Connelly books. The other is The Last Coyote where he’s looking for his mother’s murderer when he was a boy.
Must read as the follow up “the narrows” is a great read.
Great characters and surprise ending
A book by my favorite author.
Harry Bosch is always entertaining.
Early Bosch is a great read.
My all time favorite author!
The Poet is the 1st McEvoy novel and might be one of the author’s best books. I like to think of McAvoy like a serious version of my all-time favorite investigative reporter Fletch. He submerges himself in the story (but not with disguises, darn it), which in this case is the death of his brother along with other murdered cops. This is a good …
Kept me turning the pages. A lesson in pacing for all authors.
A unique take on a serial killer. Combines the insights of a journalist and FBI agent into a novel that is hard to put down. Michael Connelly’s compelling voice comes through on this standalone mystery. He does an outstanding job of character development.
Best mystery I have ever read.
Crime reporter Jack McEnvoy’s world is turned upside down when his twin brother Sean, a cop, commits suicide. But when Jack goes to write a story on it, he discovers a disturbing pattern that will take him cross country and ultimately to the FBI. But will he learn the truth about what happened to his brother?
This book is praised as one of …
My first introduction to Michael Connelly. I try to read all his work, particularly the Harry Bosch novels.
