I love Jillian Quinn’s series!
This story hit on several issues people can face in a time of tragedy and loss but overcome as long as they take the right steps. I love the dynamic between friends/sibling/lovers. Ethan has a very strong personality just needed to realize what’s in front of him. There were some moments that made me cry, laugh and just angry. Mia’s brother is hilarious I would love to see him get his own story especially because of what happened at the end no spoilers! You have to read to find out. This book had everything I Love just enough hockey, romance and drama! Definitely a new favorite of Jillian’s – can’t wait to read the next one!!

I absolutely LOVE Jillian Quinn’s hockey romance books and this is no exception. As always we have a sexy as sin, broody, angst filled hockey hottie who falls for the sweet, sexy and strong willed girl. Ethan and Mia gives all that and more. If you love hockey romances then you should definitely read this book in the Face Off Series and also read the books in The Face Off Legacy Series. Hockey loving bad boy goodness

This was an excellent read. The storyline is fun, engaging, steamy and emotional. I thought that the chemistry between Ethan and Mia really sizzled. This is a best friend’s sister story, so you know you are going to get a book that provides a major case of the feels. The read offers up a hint of a forbidden feel, tension, drama, long simmering desires, a touch of angst and emotional turmoil that will pull you into Mia and Ethan’s world and have you eagerly rooting for this couple’s HEA. I am posting a voluntary, honest review.
One of my favorite themes is a woman liking her brother’s best friend, and Ethan didn’t disappoint. I loved the chemistry between Mia and Ethan, and the interactions with them and Mia’s brother, Will. It was nice to have the background for their relationship as well, so we know how they met. Mia is a woman who knows what she likes and isn’t swayed by Ethan’s money as a pro hockey player; she just wants him to love her back (or “hate” her back as the case may be). Ethan is a former playboy with a shaded past, whose bright spot has always been Mia. I enjoyed seeing the two of them get together after all those years, meeting Mia’s best friend Clarke and brother Will (those two have interesting parts of the book too!), and seeing some of the Face-Off guys again. Can’t wait for the next book in the series! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Ethan is book 5 in Jillian Quinn’s Face Off series. Like the previous books it is a hockey romance set in Philadelphia and includes some great hometown details. Ethan is a wonderful second chance/friends to lovers romance between Ethan and his best friend Will’s little sister, Mia. They lived next door to each other briefly when Ethan was a senior in high school and Mia was 15. They would meet secretly every night on Mia’s backyard swing set and share things with each other they couldn’t share with anyone else. They grew very close and were on the verge of more when Ethan suddenly left after graduation and did not keep in touch with Mia. Fast forward 10 years and Ethan is back in Philly, living with Will and playing on the Flyers. Mia is a reporter hoping for her big break. When Will and Ethan’s apartment floods they crash at Mia’s and Mia and Ethan start to face their past and form a future.
I love it when books are set in Philly and South Jersey and the author actually knows the area. Jillian Quinn does an excellent job of that. My favorite stories are those where the main characters have a past together- sibling’s best friend, childhood friends, lovers torn apart, this one is a bit of all three. Ethan is overcoming a tragedy in his past and Mia helped him when they were kids with her kindness and innocence and again as adults with her love and passion. You don’t have to have read the previous Face Off titles to enjoy Ethan but some of the characters make cameo appearances so if you have read them it will be nice seeing old friends.
*I received an early copy of this book and am posting my honest opinion.*
Young love begins to grow as Mia and Ethan meet at a backyard swing set as teenagers. But young love is rarely without obstacles. Ethan struggles with guilt when a family member dies, and drugs distract him. Years later, Ethan becomes a professional hockey player, as does Mia’s brother Will. A flooded apartment causes Mia’s and Ethan’s paths to cross again as adults. Jillian Quinn deftly balances the realism of loss with a lighthearted optimism in this book of Ethan and Mia finding each other again.
I am hoping we see Ethan and Mia in upcoming books by Quinn. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them at the end of the book.
This book has been placed into the Face-Off series, a good change for it. Originally this book was titled More than Roommates and also was published in a duet More than a Fling. Mia finds herself roommates with her brother and his best friend when their apartment floods, which she begrudgingly agrees to but two big hockey players in a small apartment was bad enough but when one is your high school crush that ghosted you years ago it’s really hard to swallow. Ethan is conflicted, when he disappeared from Mia’s life he did want her to know about his past, he didn’t just break her heart when he was forced to leave, but his own but he was in a dark place and didn’t want to pull her down with him. Now they’re “forced” to live in close quarters, their attraction is still sparking but Mia’s brother, Ethan’s best friend stand in between them exploring where their connection could take them. Fun read, with laughs and heavy feels, great characters.
A very steamy and intense best friend sister romance read! Ethan and Mia has instant connection but when he had to move he broke her heart. They reconnect years later but his hiding a secret that may break them. If your invested in this series like I am than you definitely don’t want to miss Ethan’s spicy story that doesn’t disappoint.
First time reading this author, and I absolutely love this series. You can definitely read as a stand-alone, but I love the witty dialogue and the camaraderie between the characters, that I am going to read the entire series. The storyline was great, with some hidden elements that add depth to the main character Ethan. Mia was the girl next door who grew up with drive and ambition and always believed in Ethan for taking the time to get to know her and ask her the simple question “tell me something good.”

When their apartment is flooded Ethan Waters and his roommate Will find themselves momentarily displaced, so they show up on Will’s sister Mia’s doorstep asking to crash with her for a bit while the repairs to their apartment are being made. Mia is reluctant to let them stay with her in her tiny apartment full well knowing that they could easily afford to stay at a hotel, but with a little sweet talking she finally gives in and lets them crash with her. Ethan knows it is going to be a challenge to keep his hands to himself around Mia, because they have a past, one with a lot of unresolved feelings and un-ignited passion, and he is dying to light that flame. Problem is lighting said flame could extinguish his friendship with her brother, and that is a line he just can’t cross… or can he?
The moment Mia opens her door and sees her brother and his ass for a roommate standing on the other side she is ready to slam it in their faces, certain that they want something and will cramp her style. And true to her instincts she is right, their apartment is currently unlivable and they want to crash with her for a few weeks, while she doesn’t so much mind her brother being there, she can’t stand the thought of sharing her apartment with the man who broke her heart years ago. Until now she has done a good job at avoiding him, but him staying with her is going to be a real test on her patience and her heart! She plans to keep him at a distance, but he has other plans, ones that involve getting her naked, and she isn’t about to let that happen… or will she?
Ethan is a sultry little tale that pushes the boundaries of friendship, reunites long lost lovers, and rights the wrongs of the past. From the first page of this one you will be intrigued with these wonderfully crafted characters, and not long after your journey is underway will find yourself being wrapped up into their challenging situation, and all the emotionally rich drama that surrounds them. I have read other novels from this author, so I am well aware of the story lines she is capable of producing, but this one really took me by surprise, it not only had the steam factor I am accustom too, but it also had powerful emotion side to it that really packed an unexpected punch… one I thoroughly enjoyed. I have to say this might just be one of my favorites from her to date, the characters were amazing, the story line was engaging and spawned a serious case of the feels, and she left me surprised, (in a good way) … and in my book it doesn’t get much better than that! Highly recommend this one, it sure to leave your heart overflowing, and your knees weak!

Ethan and Mia met when she was 14 and his was 18. They both loved for each other but didn’t act on their feelings because of the age difference and the fact that Mia’s brother Will was Ethan’s best friend. Ethan leaves without an explanation at high school graduation. Fast forward 10 years and Ethan and Will are teammates and own a condo together. Mia hates Ethan because he left without a goodbye and is now a manwhore and major douche. The condo is flooded out and they end up staying with Mia. This is the setup for the romance. Of course, while they antagonize each other, they still love each other. This is a rewriting of the author’s “More Than Roommates” book. When I read the original story, I had some problems with the plot (Mia was a doormat, Ethan was pretty cruel and degrading to Mia), and rated it a 2.5 stars. This retelling takes care of a lot of those issues.
*Spoiler*
There was one thing that kept this from being a five star read. The reason Ethan had to leave was due to an addiction to pain pills. He went through rehab and no longer takes pills, but he is constantly drinking in this book. Was he just changing one addiction for another? This bothered me.
