She wants to keep me at arm’s length.

All I want her to think about is screaming my name.
She says I’m bad news.
I have three weeks to prove her wrong.

This book was exactly what I needed. Heat, angst, and that sweet tension I love to see between characters.
Let me start off by saying this is my first Claire Contreras read ever! With being said, I was completely blown away!!!
“The Player” is a fundamental example of writing at it’s best!!
Warren and Camila story is exquisite, yet the breathtaking account of two lost souls, from different sides of the tracks. With one ever common denominator. That being past hurt, anger, and pain. Can you truly ever trust again? Can you ever let your heart beat for the sheer purpose of love? Can the chase be over and when it is, will I be caught?
To simply jump in, like a leap of fate.
To find one’s true faith, to find that everlasting love, finding one’s true purpose of living. That is what the “The Player” brought to my eyes. That love is worth the battle of one’s own will. A sheer mesmerizing story that had me clutching to every word, to every syllable, to every page. Devouring, consuming the story like souls dying for its last word!
Floved! Took too long to read this book.
I simultaneously read and listened to this book and I loved it. Warren was amazing, easy to love and easy to fall in love with. Camila was a little irritating at times but, lovable nonetheless.
Contreras wrote a great page-turner that I just couldn’t get enough of.
“Life is short. We’re only here to chase moments. I’d rather make those moments worthwhile.”
The Player was an amazing story written by Claire Contreras. Warren, aka “War”, is a top star soccer player. Camila is a woman who knows what it’s like to live a life of privilege. From the very first page, this book pulled me in and hooked me. This book was fantastic, fun, wicked entertaining, and steamy as all heck!
I wish Warren’s point of view chapters were a little longer.
I loved this book and I couldn’t put it down.
Highly Recommended!
Camila and Warren end up on two different sides of a meeting about a prominent building in Camila’s neighborhood. Warren’s colleagues are taking over and pushing the tenants out quickly with no additional benefits for their relocation. Camila, shy but determined, stands up for her community and battles for fair treatment.
I love that Warren dove straight into Camila’s life and experienced NYC as a true New Yorker with her. Early on, he wanted to understand her deeper and he knew the only way to do that would be going at her pace. While the rest of the world knows him as a world-renowned soccer (or football) player, Camila could not care less about that fact.
Camilla is strong and knows who and what she is. She’s not phased by Warren’s money or job or status. She loves him for him and who he is underneath the glamour and the facade he wears for the world. They have some commonalities in their back stories that help forge their strong bond and I felt connected with both of them, rooting for their HEA the whole way through.
With their worlds so completely different, it’s difficult to mesh their lifestyles together, especially since they live in different countries. Warren and Camila’s story is beautiful and their path is not entirely easy.
Rich boy meets poor girl. Poor girl who isn’t looking for riches. She came from humble beginnings, then an opportunity came to her family and they came into some good fortune. That good fortune, however was short lived and it all came crashing down. He thinks his money and fame will impress her, but he doesn’t know her at all. Then there’s the company he keeps. She hates, loathes, despises someone he is working with, so can she even overlook that? Both have issues with their pasts that they are dealing with. She’s a strong, pretty independent woman who doesn’t need a man to make her happy. He’s used to people wanting him for his money and publicity, so he’s a little taken back when his charms don’t work on her. I liked her character. I liked him, but it didn’t seem like he did a lot to really woo her. He basically stalked the girl, but didn’t show that much with his actions, considering how much he wanted her. There’s a few secrets that are hinted at throughout, but most don’t come to light until near the end.. and boy, do they cause some turmoil. There is some steamy sexual content, some laughs, and some heart ache along the way. It alternates between POVs.
This book really hit the spot. I have been trying to read some of the books I have on my Kindle and not all of them are great. This one was so satisfying to read and left me feeling content with the world.
a super entertaining reading, super attractive characters in their personalities, a reading that you start and you don’t want to leave it! excellent !!!

Review:
If I had to pick one word to describe this book, it sadly would be boring. Everything was just meh for me. Nothing really stood out. The characters conversations felt very monotone. It didn’t evoke any emotion. Everything was so..descriptive, if that makes sense.
I think this book could have been a hell of allot shorter and still get the point across.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that it was a bad book or a bad story. It just didn’t do anything for me.
What is this book about:
When football (soccer ) player Warren meets Camilla he knows instantly he wants her. He is so used to woman wanting him, he didn’t expect Camilla to turn him down. That only made him want her more. Warren is only in the US for a short period of time and he is determined to have her.
Camilla is sure that Warren only wants her because she said no. She is sure that they have nothing in common and that they would never work. But the more he tries, the more time they spend together, the more she finds herself falling for him. Will Warren prove Camilla wrong or will their story end with a broken heart
What did I like/love:
Sadly nothing really. Nothing really stood out for me to love.
What did I dislike/hate:
Didn’t hate or dislike anything either
Rating:
2 meh stars
I really enjoyed this!
Sexy, tattooed, & arrogant athlete, strong & independent heroine, and a story with plenty of heart and sexy times. 🙂
The audiobook narrators were perfect.
I have always attempted to give ‘star’ ratings on my completed reads, just as a tracking method for my titles that I have completed. I have unlimited packages for audio, kindle, and utilize the local/state library.
However, I do not check the ‘I recommend this book’ unless I am willing to reread a book and or a series.
[I read about 5-15 books a month through kindle, and I listen to about 15-30 books monthly]
I have a full life as a nurse, professor, wife, daughter [daughter in law], sister, and mother. I love to read and love a thousand other lives by turning the pages in countless books.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a review. Happy reading 🙂
I need to get this off my chest! I hate Manchester United. Really hate them. Once a player, plays for them they are tainted. It doesn’t wash off. Well except for David Beckham and he only redeemed himself because he went to Real Madrid and played his socks off for England.
Warren Silva, how can I forgive you? Just how? Flash your sexy green eyes at me and call me pretty girl and I will think about it.
Apart from the M word, I loved this book. It made me smile big and made me a little tearful. I was ready for a War-k-out! So much to love in this book. The pigeon light show! The train ride. The big reveal. Shit! No shit! Posters on the subway.
Great, great read.
“In his eyes I found promises my mind was afraid to explore, but my body was so ready for.”
“I pressed the side of my cheek onto his chest and breathed him in, relishing the way he smelled and how it felt like nothing could touch me as long as I was inside the protection of his strong arms.”
“She wasn’t my New York Girl. She was my game changer.”
“What’s wrong, pretty boy? Afraid to get a little dirty?”
“Life is short. We’re only here to chase moments. I’d rather make those moments worthwhile.”
War, is my new favourite Claire Contreras boy, just don’t mention the M word.
Amazing read

This read gave me so many emotions, definitely a ride I enjoyed. I laughed, Got bitchy, Swooned (definitely Swooned) I cried -the writing is soo good I felt what they felt, And then I was happy.
Warren I Love you! War was possessive but in the oh so romantic way! Never a jerk, Always himself and I give him all the brownie points for his persistence
Actually I love both Warren and Camila.
Camila is a rider! She was strong when she didn’t think she was and so down to earth.
I recommend this to all who want to experience an awesome story!
~~”You’re killing me,” he whispered against my lips, taking hold of both sides of my face. “You’re fucking killing me and you don’t even know it.”~~
~~”To love is to put your own feelings aside for the benefit of another.”~~
Author: I’ve read most of her books and every single one has been great. I’m amazed with her stories and look forward to more.
I loved Warren and Camilla. A great story that is flirty sexy with great chemistry between War and Camilla. I enjoyed the banter, and didn’t expect the twist. A phenomenal story about love and trust. I. just loved this story. Highly recommend reading this!
The Player is the story of Warren and Camila.
Warren a handsome famous Soccer player, with relationship issues, bad experiences made him this way.. he just wants to play football and make a lot of money.. he likes luxury and having flashy cars and the hottes women around.. his life was far from perfect he had a few bad memories and a past that keeps hunting him..
Camila is a strong heroine, she is affraid of falling in love again, she doesn’t want to give her heart after a bad experience… she is focused on her job, not wanting to know anything about men for the moment.. but nothing prepare her for him.. he was a game changer and everything she said she didn’t want was everything she ever wanted in him…
Camila is beautiful, stubborn and independent woman. with a great family who support her..
I really felt the connection between Warren and Camila.. since the first time they saw each other, it was strong.. I love how Camila was very stubborn and tried to fight her feelings and getting closer to Warren… i loved that Warren was very persistent and never gave up, he kept trying no matter what..
The love between Camila and Warren started slowly with a lot of fight in both sides .. fighting their feelings and their intentions .. both having diffrent plans in life… but love changed everything for them and their plans had to change..
Great characters, good story and love Camila and Warren ..
What a great story. I really enjoyed it especially since I am a big soccer fan. I definitely recommend this book and this author.
Not a soccer fan but was still able to understand the on the field references. War Zone indeed
This was a good book. Also shows it is never a good thing not to tell everything up front and take your chances that way.
