Enjoy a fun, fish-out-of-water, opposites-attract romantic comedy adventure on the high seas, from a New York Times bestselling author! Captain Blackheart leads a simple life of roving the seas, wenching and treasure-hunting. He steers clear of romantic entanglements that could tie him to land. He shouldn’t have any trouble keeping his hands off the gently-bred lady he’s commissioned to abduct — … commissioned to abduct — except his cargo turns out to be feisty and passionate! She’d be a prize worth treasuring, if having her aboard didn’t jeopardize everything…
Clara Halton thought the worst loss she could suffer was to be stripped of her family. Then she meets Blackheart. Their attraction is ruinous…and irresistible. When he delivers her to his client like so much plunder, his mission is over — but hers has just begun. She’ll force him to acknowledge their connection, even if she must storm his ship to do it!

Loved that the characters were older with life experience.
Enjoyed, however more like a long story than a book.
I liked it. Had some twists and turns but turned out great.
A quick read. Delightful story and fun characters.
Simple and predictable
I loved this book. It was a wonderful whimsy of romance and pirates. I couldn’t put it down.
Complete Dukes of War book 7
Epic transatlantic romance with a sexy pirate!
We met Captain Steele, AKA Blackheart, when he fetched Grace’s mother, Clara, in Book 2 of this series and again when he appeared as Daphne’s guardian in Book 4. Here, in this captivating book, we get those scenes from his and Clara’s POV, as well as the rest of their story. And what a story it is!
Clara wants nothing more than to live a predictable, stable life while the dashing pirate gets itchy feet after just a few weeks on land. How are they ever going to find a way to be together? I fell in love with Captain Steele in Book 4, and just swooned my way through this entire book. Both MCs are late-thirties/early-forties, and as such are quite mature in their approach to romance and their future plans. Yet their chemistry is hot enough to rewrite anyone’s plans, and the time they spend together shows them just how compatible they really are.
The entire book was an outstanding, rollicking adventure from the first page to the last. I couldn’t love it more.
Romantic and satisfying!
The actions in this book happen concurrently with #2 and #4. the Earl of Carlisle (#2) hires Mr. Gregory Steele, once a barrister before he was shanghaied and eventually became the dread pirate Blackheart, to bring Mrs. Cora Halton to England. He wasn’t told that she was ill (why her daughter Grace went to England in the first place), but having buried his parents from consumption at a young age, does not believe that that is what she has. He finds a feisty woman about his own age, who he carries off to his ship, the Dark Crystal. During the journey, Cora not only recovers, but enjoys the adventure and is eventually reunited with her parents and daughter. However, she misses Gregory. Will they ever see each other again? Now that her daughter is happily married, will she find the life she truly wants?
As always, the author spins a delightful tale, with well developed and engaging characters, amusing dialogue and unique situations. This is a wonderful series, but each book can be read as a stand alone.
Sea Worthy
He has been given the charge to bring Earl Carlisle future mother in law home from America. He gets there and is told that she has consumption. Well he figures she doesn’t. He brings her home to a grateful family. But she is bored, she stowaway on his boat and the rest ius history.
I love this series and this writer! Every book is fun, witty, and romantic. Keep ’em coming!
I had a hard time finishing it. I love pirate romance. This was disappointing.
I am a fan of Erica Ridley but this book is just too boring for me. Has taken me more than 3 months to get halfway thru it. Now her ‘The Viscount’s Christmas Temptation’ was funny, easy to read, the characters weren’t always thinking of sex, there was a lot of dialogue within the characters not just descriptions. But yes, this book was a disappointment for me. I expected some of the same from her other books. But again, this was me. Everyone has different tastes.
Fun to tead. A bit graphic on the sex scenes, but overall good.
I am a fan of Erica Ridley’s writing, and this is one of my favorites from her. The characters are engaging and likeable, while there is plenty to hold your interest.
You’ll enjoy this action and the drama of this book.
